While some players initially interpreted this note as a reference to fan theories about the game world being a simulation in conjunction with the "nothing is real" graffiti, Double Eleven developer George Platten provided context to the note's origin on Discord. According to Platten, a member of the quality assurance team said that the graffiti made no sense after Platten had placed it in the motel's bathroom. Platten implemented the note to give a reason for the graffiti's existence, essentially acting as a self-deprecatory joke from Platten over him adding the graffiti in the first place.[1]
