Most of the kids here don't know the truth about whales. They used to be the largest, most feared land predators in North America. You always knew when they were coming because of the whale-quakes. They'd wake from hibernation out of the ground, and start burrowing their way to the surface.

Once on land, they were a force of pure destruction. A single whale could take down a whole building if it was still in their way. They had razor sharp fins to slice people in half, and gruesome baleen for teeth. If they sucked you in, that baleen would slice you up like a loaf of bread.

The kids found some old bones while digging out the Core. I told them they were lucky, not only because it was dead, but because that one was just a baby.
