What you're doing is insane. It isn't like the Vault out there. It's big.— Chet to Lucy

Chet, full name Chester,[1] is a resident of Vault 33 who later moves into Vault 32 in the Fallout TV series.

Background[]

He was born a resident of Vault 33 and is Lucy MacLean's cousin, who also finds himself unshakably smitten with her. It is mentioned he did "10 years of cousin stuff" with her in a non-detailed manner. He is also Norm MacLean's best friend, and is loyal to a fault.[2]

Fallout TV series[]

The End[]

Chet is Vault 33's gatekeeper and is responsible for opening the vault's doors. He initially tries to delay the 2296 Triennial Trade with Vault 32 due to his feelings for Lucy, but she talks him into opening the door to allow the trade. During the wedding dance, he is clearly gloomy and heartbroken about not being able to love Lucy. Betty Pearson notices Chet's sorrow, and she invites him to dance to cheer him up.

Chet trying to leave the Vault with Lucy

During the raiders' attack on Vault 33, he accidentally closes a door and cuts a burly raider in half. After initially trying to talk Lucy out of leaving the vault, Chet later demands to join Lucy, leading her to tranquilize him and leave him behind in the vault after he opens the outer door.[3]

The Head[]

Chet is reassigned from his gatekeeping duties for helping Lucy escape and has an identity crisis at losing his job.[4]

The Ghouls[]

FOTV The Ghouls Chet and Steph

Chet and Steph kissing

Steph Harper swings by Chet's apartment to offer him her dead husband Bert's clothes. After she makes him try them on, she calls him Bert and starts kissing him. While they are kissing, Steph, who is pregnant, has her water break. Norm arrives while Steph is in labor and asks Chet to help him enter Vault 32. The pair explore Vault 32 and find the residents had all been dead for about two years, meaning the raiders did not kill them.[5]

The Past[]

While exploring Vault 32, Chet and Norm discover the residents died trying to get into Vault 31. They are later confused when Betty Pearson takes everyone to a now-cleaned Vault 32 and announces a project to resettle the vault.[1]

The Radio[]

Chet discovers he was transferred to Vault 32. Norm comes to visit Chet before he leaves, and Chet mentions him and Steph were given a starter home unit. Norm asks Chet if he is simply going to try to ignore what happened during their investigation and Chet feels he would rather try to have a fresh start. Norm calls Chet a coward, and he replies everyone is and that's why they live in a Vault. He later moves into it with Steph.

Personality[]

Chet is cowardly, but always good-hearted and loyal to his friends and his Vault. He is in love with Lucy, who does not return his feelings but likes him as a good friend and relative very much.

Due to being passive, Chet may be interpreted as easily to manipulate. For example, Steph Harper may have tried to seduce Chet and roped him into being the step-father of her unborn child, replacing her deceased husband, Bert. However, it is unclear how genuine Steph is. He also chooses to ignore the suspicious issues associated with the network of vaults in order to cling to the normalcy of his vault-life.

Appearances[]

Chet appears in the Fallout TV series episodes "The End", "The Head", "The Ghouls", "The Past", and "The Radio." He was also added to Fallout Shelter in update 1.17.0.
