Chance's map is a location in the Mojave Wasteland in Fallout: New Vegas and features in the graphic novel All Roads.
Background[]
Sometime around October 2281, a group of Great Khans including Jessup, McMurphy, and Chance were waiting to meet with their employer for a job they were hired for. McMurphy passed the time by drawing a crude map of the Mojave in the dirt with his finger, only for Chance to enhance it by digging the paths with his knife. After the group met with Benny and left for Goodsprings to set up the ambush against the Courier, the map remained at the spot it was carved into even a week later, seemingly unchanged by the wind.
Layout[]
Situated along Nevada State Route 160. northwest of Nopah cave and Vault 3, the location exists as a small enclosure with the map drawn on the ground near a hollowed-out rock containing some minor loot with "the sun is killing me" written on it. The map is littered with items that represent locations or landmarks that are important to the map, though none of the items may be picked up:
- Map Markers
- The dark grooves represent the major highways around the Mojave Wasteland.
- The can of turpentine represents the Strip in the center of New Vegas.
- Hidden Valley or Black Mountain represented by a Stealth Boy.
- The cherry bombs in the northeast represent the Boomers at Nellis Air Force Base.
- The rock in the upper northwest likely represents Jacobstown.
- The Legion Denarius in the east represents the Fort.
- The empty whiskey bottle stands in as the Hoover Dam.
- In the far southwest of the map, the two tall bottles represent the giant ranger statues at the Mojave Outpost.
- In the west, the stick of dynamite represents Powder Ganger territory.
- The tall beer bottle in the middle of the map is likely the REPCONN test site.
- The claw taken from a deathclaw hand represents Quarry Junction.
- The tin can's proximity to the claw in the west side likely represents the water tower adjacent to the Goodsprings Cemetery.
- The rock to the north is most likely Red Rock Canyon.
- East of the Stealth Boy is a shard of mirror representing HELIOS One.
- The tin can in the south stands in for Camp Searchlight.
- The bottle of water represents Cottonwood Cove.
- Another tin to the south-southeast of the shard of mirror representing HELIOS One is Novac.
- The bullet cases in the southwest represent Nipton.
Notes[]
- The depiction of the map in All Roads and in the game are different, as the graphic novel shows the locations being identified with text while in the game, miscellaneous items are used to represent the locations.
- Fast traveling to the location may spawn a Legionary assassin party and/or NCR Ranger hit squad, depending on one's reputation with Caesar's Legion and the NCR.
