Archiving talkpage[]

Why did you archive your talkpage? You're nowhere near 32k of content or 40 messages. You do know of the new policy rule about this, right? Jspoel Speech Jspoel 19:49, May 8, 2012 (UTC)

10k?? That's only a few messages. I can hardly believe Clyde said that, he knows enough of the new policy. You can read about it here. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 20:02, May 8, 2012 (UTC)
Hey Mara. You can also read the discussion page in the fora. It was 32KB which was the final agreed upon limit (the originally proposed one had been even higher). --Skire (talk) 20:05, May 8, 2012 (UTC)

Some R&R[]

I have a feeling you could tell me many a horror story. :') What did you go in as, anyways? I'm going in as a diver. Not sure about the specifics yet, (I'll probably go in as an underwater welder.) I'll be talking to the recruiter again about that when I get back from Norway in August. Dragon Skål! 05:12, June 10, 2012 (UTC)

I worry about not being able to keep up either. :') It'll be nice though, because if I can, they provide free college courses along with providing the Apprenticeship I need before being able to kick-start a diving career. Not sure I can handle being a nuclear inspector, so I'll probably rely on being a Scuba instructor or something as a fall-back/retirement option. Dragon Skål! 05:20, June 10, 2012 (UTC)

Well thanks for letting me know, I want to get it right - what do you suggest we do? --Skire (talk) 12:09, July 16, 2012 (UTC)

Take a look at Forum:Concerns regarding the Bug Verification Project, along with our content policy, specifically the bugs section (I'm sure you know it like the back of your hand). There is nothing that justifies indiscriminate, systematic tagging of bugs for verification simply because there aren't any platform tags. The project should be geared towards actually adding platform tags, not basically marking them for deletion (ends up happening most of the time). Just because they do not have specific platform tags does not mean the bug is not real. And as per policy, if a bug in question is not dubious or suspicious, there is no reason for it to be marked for verification. The documentation on {{Verify}} states the template is to be used for facts that need verification - a lack of specific platform tags does not equate to the entire bug needing verification, as in questioning its truth value. --Skire (talk) 20:27, July 16, 2012 (UTC)

You removed my valid edit. It's rude & ur not to do that again, or I'll call the mods. The typos and grammar will be fixed, so do NOT remove my text from the Dick Johnson. K thanks.

Weapon repair kits seem to have been listed as notable due to their limited amount of fixed locations in game. Nipton Gutsy[]

Hi! What's so "specific" about this particular Gutsy? Looks pretty normal to me... except it's leveled and starting at PC_level 11 it becomes a Mister Gutsy with DT 25. Check for "LvlGutsy" in the GECK, if you don't believe me. --Theodorico (talk) 22:52, September 18, 2012 (UTC)

LvlGutsy

Here's a screenshot for your convinience.

Yeah, there's a small trick in this leveled list - it has "Calculate from all levels <= PC's level" checked, so even at level 37 there's 50/50 chance to get either a "Mister Gutsy Prototype" (DT 0) either a "Mister Gutsy" (DT 25).--Theodorico (talk) 00:01, September 19, 2012 (UTC)

While vs. Whilst[]

Both "While" and "Whilst" are proper American-English words. Whilst might be of an older English, but it is still a proper word to use here. (It is also considered more literary, which is what we strive for on an encyclopedia of knowledge.) ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 16:58, October 18, 2012 (UTC)

While it had more use found in the UK, it was still a word born from American minds. However, I digress. After looking it up, I see it's considered more archaic than literary. Feel free to make your changes again. I just thought it strange for an anon to all the sudden start making systematical changes for something so minor. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 17:05, October 18, 2012 (UTC)
Sounds like fun on a bun. ;) Sorry for the trouble, then. Get a little paranoid myself when I see changes like that. Bias takes over when I see them being made by the anonymous, as well. A somewhat random suggestion[]

Hi Mara. I know I've talked to you somewhat about this topic in the past, but I would like to bring it up again if you don't mind: I really think you should run for an administrator position here. Invitation to join the 2012 Nukapedian of the Year selection board[]

Hello!

This is a message indicating that you are one of seven or nine users selected to be part of the 2012 Nukapedian of the Year selection board. As the board, we will be determining the final winner, as well as serving in other key roles during the entire selection process. It is planned that we will meet on occasion in the Chinese FO Wiki chat to discuss matters. Please ensure that, if you are accepting this invitation, you will be available for these meetings, as functioning with an even number of members may result in an impasse.

Please reply on my talk page to respond to this invitation. You may also post suggestions regarding the organisational process or the entire programme there as well. By accepting this invitation, you will have made yourself an official member of the board, and are thus obliged to attend its meetings and make objective decisions throughout this month. By declining this invitation, you will not be a member of the board and thus free from any of its obligations. Another user will then be invited in your stead.

I look forward to hearing from you!

--Skire (talk) 21:49, December 6, 2012 (UTC)

I understand that there may be conflicts, and so if you think you will be unable to attend to all this, then feel free to pass it up. I don't want it to be burdening, especially amidst your current duties in real life. Let me know. --Skire (talk) 01:14, December 8, 2012 (UTC)

Hi again! I know there are uncertainties about whether or not you want to/can be a member of out board, but if possible I'd like a reply on my TP by Wednesday. This is just so I can organise things with some time left. There's a whole back-up list so don't worry at all if you're too busy or your schedule is too tight for this. See you around =) --Skire (talk) 23:58, December 10, 2012 (UTC)

"Only"[]

This issue has been disproportionally magnified to a degree that is nothing short of absurdity. The appearances sections have been changed back and forth with no improvement for quite awhile, and J and I have agreed on a standard - "appears only", to change them once and for all. These changes are to be made by the bot (currently User:TheodoricoBot) purely for the sake of consistency. You're absolutely right that both work just as well, so we've simply selected one over the other arbitrarily. It's time to put this matter to rest. --Skire (talk) 00:09, January 16, 2013 (UTC)

Like I said, the issue is really not that significant. I had originally preferred "only appears" too but really it's completely arbitrary as both are totally acceptable. They've already been changed and I believe it's best if we stop prolonging the problem. Anyone was welcome to have a say - they either didn't care or didn't want to say anything. We left a lot of time before I requested some bot work to be done, in case anyone else wanted to speak up. But before I continue, what are your thoughts on it? --Skire (talk) 00:41, January 16, 2013 (UTC)
I'm not super clear on the syntax aspect, or which one is really "American", but I've been thinking about those creatures appearances. The layout policy requires them but like you said we have different pages for each game. On the FO3 deathclaw page, for example, saying "The deathclaw appears only in Fallout 3" is quite frankly false, considering it appears pretty much every other game as well. I agree that it is redundant and even misleading, so maybe we could talk about removing them for creatures articles only? For characters and locations they may be helpful, especially in the case of certain articles, such as Harold. --Skire (talk) 00:53, January 16, 2013 (UTC)
Apart from those two words, perhaps appearances sections in general could use a forum discussion? --Skire (talk) 01:42, January 16, 2013 (UTC)

ADB[]

Hello, Mara. This is a message that I will be circulating through Nukapedia's Sysops. A while back I had created a more suitable version of the Administrators' Discussion Board as an attempt to help regulate important matters that require immediate attention from the veteran users around Nukapedia. With Fallout 4 on the horizon, I would like to begin making this feature more widely embraced, so that we all are more comfortable and familiar with using it for when the time comes around that we'll need to look towards it the most. What I would like to see is for an example to be set for where certain matters should be discussed within our community, as well as creating an environment where users will know that their issues will be addressed in a timely and fair manner. What does this mean, exactly?

  • Appropriate topics should be addressed within the ADB instead of the normal fora space. Not only is the ADB a general area to condense important topics, but it is also always kept at the top for easy access. (As well as having a place within the Community Messages.)
  • All Administrators, Moderators, Patrollers, and Bureaucrats should make it a priority to check through the ADB at least once every few days or so. This is the duty of mantling the extra tools, after all, and is not too much to ask for.
  • The ADB should make an appearance within new user's welcome message.
  • If a topic within the fora has been made that is of significant importance and affects the wiki as a whole, these topics should be moved into the ADB.
    • It is my hope that these requirements will help our community become more familiar with where they should go to have their grievances and ideas properly heard. Right now, the ADB has been largely ignored because the Sysops have also largely ignored it, and this is unacceptable at times when important matters such as this one are mostly by-passed except for a couple of people. With the chaos that is soon to come with the new title(s), all I am asking is for a bit of responsibility in making sure that we all recognize issues and ideas as they come up, and making sure that we do our parts in seeing them through. Thank you for reading, and I would greatly appreciate some feed-back. Once a general consensus has been reached, possible changes will be taken care of.

  • Info-box Mk.II - For those of you wanting to see an example first, an example for how the changes will look (Keep in mind that this example is in its most basic form.) can now be found here. If a positive community consensus is reached, the new design will become functional here and the community can decide from there whether the final design is appropriate or not on Nukapedia.
  • JunkRadio - I would like to share a quote from the JunkRadio designer himself: "Quotation|I was thinking of adding it to the top left or bottom left corner of the wiki. I can give it absolute positioning, which means that it will display on the top left, regardless of screen resolutions. If necessary, I can make it scroll down with the page as well, although this might distract users from reading the actual pages.|Mark van Alphen"
    • Thank you for reading, and I'll be looking forward to gathering everyone's final opinion over these new changes. Due to the overwhelming support so far for all three changes, only needing minor points to update them for clarity, the vote will continue as normal, and will end on the 23rd as scheduled. At first they did not have a bot flag and showed up in RC. They've now readded the bot flag, but I can find no evidence of the bot adding any templates since abou the 18th, either attributed to the bot account, or to any admin. I'm not the best with weapons. Better ask Gunny I think. Did some browsing but I can't find it in the template, too complex for me. Twice now, you have incorrectly reverted an edit on Caesar's page, in the "behind the scenes section." Yes, C. Julius Caesar claimed Venus as an ancestor through the line of Iulius. Iulius' line would continue to the mother of Romulus and Remus, with their father being Mars. As such, the Caesar's could claim Mars as their ancestor, as well as Venus. The line on Caesar's page currently reads: Although Caesar claims to be the son of Mars, Julius Caesar claimed to be a descendant of the goddess Venus. This implies that the two both claim to be descendant from a diety, but not the same one, despite the fact the historical Caesars did in fact claim Mars as their own blood. For further reference, look at the propaganda of Augustus - his triple god ancestry (Venus, Mars, and the then-deified C. Julius Caesar) forms the foundation for many of his imperial works of art and architecture.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.93.210.241 (talkcontribs). Please sign your posts with ~~~~!

Good news/bad news[]

The good news is I finished adding crit damage perks [[User:The_Gunny/sandbox#Infobox|to the infobox]]. The bad news is that as I did this, I realized that the infobox math is incorrect for total perk damage. Check that infobox. With 9 Better Criticals perks (each a x1.5 mult) that laser rifle should be doing something like 800+ crit damage. I'm going to have to completely rewrite the perks sections of that infobox. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 21:37, June 3, 2013 (UTC)

Hi Great Mara! I would like to invite you for a seat on the Nukapedia featured articles committee. Our goal is to select and approve articles to be used in our featured articles rotation (that shows up on the front page). I have written some criteria here and I believe our first step should be to discuss and make any necessary changes to the criteria. After this, we will check which of the current articles in the rotation are high-quality enough to keep. From there, we can set up a forum page so users can nominate articles or otherwise go through a list to find appropriate ones to add to the rotation. Keep in mind that being on the committee will require some degree of consistency and frequency in checking on the wiki, although it can be at your own convenience. Vault 11 edit question[]

Regarding a recent edit I made to the "bugs" section of the Vault 11 page: how is being able to preemptively lay mines through a wall where enemies will appear "not notable", while the existence of a dresser that isn't marked as empty, but is indeed empty is notable? It changed how I approached things in the vault infinitely more than an empty dresser did.

Single shots[]

When I redid that page, for every weapon that was one shot per reload, I used the DPSreload for DPS. It's stated in the table legend up top if you uncollapse it. That includes just about all the weapons he changed the DPS on: Gauzz rifle, break action shotties, et al. The other changes he made, the ROF changes, I have no idea where he got the info. I double checked the GECK and the info on both the pages and the tables is correct. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 16:21, August 11, 2013 (UTC)

I considered doing that. Right now, though, the tables use regular DPS for all non-single shot weapons, and DPSreload on all single shots. Since there is a much greater difference between DPS/DPSreload on single shots than on magazine weapons, I felt it important to not show such a false DPS number on single shots. I thought about using DPSreload for all weapons, but I was worried about the exact scenario that just happened: A new editor who didn't read the table legend would come in and change everything because "it was wrong". To be honest, using DPSreload for all weapons would be a much more correct comparison. We'd just have to deal with people continually changing the numbers, though. I'm open to suggestions. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 20:58, August 11, 2013 (UTC)

Throwing knife spear and bugs in general[]

To be blunt, no, that is not the definition of a bug in any way shape or form. Plenty of things have been set in the GECK that are bugs. Remember the bug with the turrets in the Vault 11 Chamber of Sacrifice and the quest The House Always Wins? Destroying them would fail the quest for no reason. Why? The turrets were "set in the GECK" to be in the Lucky 38 faction. It was clearly a bug, it was even patched later, but under your definition it would not be a "bug" because what happened matched what was set in the GECK. Clearly that's wrong.

In short, I'm restoring the bug. I'm also going to skip quite a few steps and get some admins involved in this too. This is a bug. It has been confirmed as a bug. Your definition of what constitutes a bug is incorrect. Please accept these things and move on. -- Yukichigai (talk) 00:10, September 25, 2013 (UTC)

One other thing I'd like to add as background which may factor into this discussion, namely who I am and what I do. I am not just some random dude with his own peculiar definition of bug. I have spent as much time fixing bugs in this game as I have playing it. Bugs are my specialty. -- Yukichigai (talk) 00:19, September 25, 2013 (UTC)

I restored your edit to throwing knife spear. Left my reason on Yukichigai's talkpage. I wouldn't consider it a bug. It's supposed to not be affected if it's not in the formlist. Sorting and bots[]

Thanks. The bot went offline and I didn't catch it this morning. Does that sometimes. As for the sorting problem, take a look at the fix I did on shotguns. Using a prefix of <span style="color:transparent;">0</span> keeps the sorting key hidden, but allows you to sort better. It does this because anything other than a number forces mediawiki to sort it as text. By using 045 instead of 45, it sorts properly. I don't have the time right now to check the other parts of the tables, like the energy pistols, for other sort issues, but you should be able to get them to sort right using that trick. If you want to give it a crack, go ahead. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 19:58, October 24, 2013 (UTC)

Why[]

Dear Great Mara,

Why are you taking my edits off of the fallout new vegas wiki? All i'm doing is leaving very accurate information about what the in-game firearms are based on in the real world. For example, I added a not to the Hunting shotgun wiki page saying that it is based on the real life Remington 870, which is completely true. The in-game hunting shotgun has a high cheekrest on the buttsock making it not a exact replica.

All i'm doing is providing true information about firearms that is completely related to the game.

Ranks[]

Hey Mara. See Paladin Hoss on here and General Lord on wikipedia. In each of these cases, the ranks are not bolded because they are not part of the name, even with Hoss, who's first name is not identified. Perhaps it is something we can discuss with others? Personally, I think we should be in line with Wikipedia on this. FollowersApocalypseLogo A Follower  Talk  17:30, February 3, 2014 (UTC)

I don't really think it looks better one way or another, personally. Especially since we went around a while ago and removed the ranks from page names, so shouldn't the bolded text reflect the name of the article? Like I said, I'm not too bothered either way, so long as it's consistent and proper. FollowersApocalypseLogo A Follower  Talk  17:38, February 3, 2014 (UTC)
Hey Mara. I conversed with Clyde and a few other people, and the consensus seems to be that if the rank is preceding the name, it's not bolded as per proper grammar and styling. I know it looks a bit weird, but it is technically proper. The other option is moving the rank to after the name and rewrite a bit (i.e. Delvin was a sergeant in the United States Armed Forces). I think we have to make the change, as we are encyclopedic and this is apparently proper grammar. FollowersApocalypseLogo A Follower  Talk  07:07, February 4, 2014 (UTC)

Hi. I've opened up a forum to discuss a proposal to deal with our first-person-in-articles issue. Can you please give it a glance and share any feedback. Thanks 69.l25 (talk) 04:43, February 12, 2014 (UTC)

Why did you revert my edit?[]

I understand why you reverted my edit, but I added a way to activate the truce option between the brotherhood and the NCR with Hardin as elder, which is pretty useful information in my opinion. I apologise for 'borking' the template but please understand I had no idea that I was doing so. Knight of Camlorn (talk) 22:39, February 12, 2014 (UTC)Knight of Camlorn

Lord Death/mines[]

An odd problem has occurred to me. While checking the infoboxes for the various mines, a lot of them are missing perks. My first thought was adding them, then I wondered: do damage perks affect mines? It's not like you're holding them like other weapons. I really don't know. Explosive Bobblehead Video[]

Hi, I was wondering why you reverted my edits adding video tutorials to finding the Explosives Bobblehead. You put in your notes that it was against video policy. Which one? I wasn't able to find any specific policy in the Image and Video Policy section. Plus, I've seen similar videos elsewhere on Nukapedia, and found them useful.

This Bobblehead is tough to find, and its location is difficult to describe in words. I personally didn't find it based on the description alone, so I looked up the video on YT. That was proof enough for me that the article would benefit from the video. I can't think of any reason it is unacceptable, but I'm still new here. Please explain.

Thank you.

FO3 assault rifle[]

It's amazing how many total tallies you have there... Looking at the article history, it would seem that 90%+ of the edits made in the last year to the article have been speculation about its design origin/inspiration. --Skire (talk) 03:05, March 2, 2014 (UTC)

Hellfire Trooper[]

You're right, I just double checked and that's how it's spelled in the military. Right you are sir, apologies. Enclavesymbol 00:02, March 18, 2014 (UTC)

Marksman Carbine[]

Hi, that edit that I made on the Marksman Carbine article was because I went to the Nellis array and couldn't find it, only a Grenade Launcher and an Assault Carbine. Perhaps it spawning is a level based occurrence? If so, perhaps the article should express that, if not, maybe it should be made clearer? Me being unable to find it may be down to not looking hard enough, but I have searched the place thoroughly twice now and still no dice. Thanks. Incarnate Sable (talk) 02:58, March 31, 2014 (UTC)

Infobox incomplete[]

Don't add all those infobox incomplete templates to pages. They clutter the pages. Tell me what you generally want with it, and I'll check it. Or you can check it if you're on a PC. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 23:57, April 1, 2014 (UTC)

Legionary Assassins at HELIOS One[]

I honestly don't know. I'd assume that they'd come in through the door, but I can't check that stuff because I play on xbox. It'd be easier if the reflector activation panel wasn't right under the door... Foxi Hooves (talk) 21:54, April 3, 2014 (UTC)

RE: Machete[]

I remember getting a machete when I was in the arena, but that one was always taken away from me when I was done with Benny. I don't know, maybe its a bug that I've got. Thank you for the explanation, anyway. Leea (talk) 12:33, April 19, 2014 (UTC)

Ahem...

Just a question regarding my most recent edits about characters who aren't saveable; Wouldn't you want to add that name as opposed to removing the note all together? The Guy Lying In The Grass (talk) 05:29, May 8, 2014 (UTC)

Machine gun[]

I got the idea from The Vault. Looks ok to me. Assault carbine and minigun already have their own overview page (assault rifle and minigun), don't really see a problem here. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 16:45, May 8, 2014 (UTC)

Not sure what you have in mind. Don't expect problems with it to be honest, as I don't ever see add someone weapons to overviewpages like that (other than me) in the past year even. You can create something in your sandbox I can take a look at, if you want to make it concrete. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 17:03, May 8, 2014 (UTC)
I'm not a weapon expert. If you think the service rifle doesn't belong you can remove it. You can also add the {{for}} to some pages you think is appropriate. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 17:13, May 8, 2014 (UTC)
All three weapons to the machine gun overview page I think. They are too slow firing (tested it) to be called a minigun. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 17:54, May 13, 2014 (UTC)

Appearances[]

I don't understand why most creatures have an appearances section and the ones that dont, i've tried to add in appearances and you undid it. I feel like they should either all have an appearances section or none of them should. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Darth Roxas (talkcontribs). Please sign your posts with ~~~~!

Fast Shot[]

Wer do you finde fast shot to modify weapon spread? Wher do you finde 9,36 is coret AP cost? Wer do you finde reducing acuracy benefit delivering demage whit sniper weapon compered whit 0.08s faster fire rate? Aperantly reducig acuracy is way to go whit long range weapons and not close combat one. One mor thing, do you know that whit fast shot to get 95 procent chance for head shot you need to be 5m or less from your target? —Preceding unsigned comment added by NEVER BoRN (talkcontribs). Please sign your posts with ~~~~!

10+20 = 30
13 Ap is 100 procen
X Ap is 30 procent
13 x 30 = X x 100
X= 13 x 30 / 100

13 - X = 9.1

Fast shot do not incrise weapon spread, it reduce your unmodefied chance to hit bu 20%, so if you have 10 procent chance to hit you penalty will be realy small (2%) but if you have 95 procent chance then you penalty will be mach larger resolting in realy samll distance to actualy get max accuracy. They scale difrently and if ther whas no breking point for this then you never have 95 chance to hit if you dont have perks. But luckly on PC ther is one.

Idk how to explain difrance in V.A.T.S. mechanic wen it come to accuracy and and weapon spread which influance its deviation. Perks do not incrise weapons accuracy bu reducing its spread they just influance V.A.T.S. final accuracy. If you say Commando reduce spread of hunting shotgun is true, then ok but its not. I just whant to point one thing, wen it come to influacne on spread they implemented it only in real time bu adding incrised weapon sway and that is far as they go. In RL weapon sway is accuracy problem then mor then weapon spread is. But if all else fail, consider this. If your penalty on long range shot is only 2 of 10 procent and close range penalty is 16 on 80 procent you see how pontles is to asume it have something to do whit weapon spread. Its be fany your weapon have mor deviation on close reange then on long range.
