Redirection links[]

Redirection links are so the search function can direct users to the appropriate page in case they don't type in the right thing. Don't route things through redirects when the link on the page is already correct. Great Mara (talk) 21:58, January 29, 2014 (UTC)

Edits[]

Hey Breakin'Benny! Well, we really do appreciate you edits here at Nukapedia, we'd politely ask that you try to refrain from edits that solely remove/add useless things, such as spaces between asterisks on lists and blank returns in charts and the like. If you feel you're not quite sure what's a good edit then, may I suggest joining the New User Network as it aims to teach users the proper way to edit and helps you find articles to edit. Once again thanks for your time and keep up the editing! Yours Always; --The Old World Relics (talk/blog/contributions) 12:53, February 18, 2014 (UTC)

Howdy Benny. I've seen you removing the spaces after certain mediawiki markup characters and was kinda wondering why? For instance, I've seen you remove the space after a table cell pipe (|) on a table. Mediawiki strips out the space so removing it does not change the page display. Is there something you're seeing in your browser that I'm not? Almost all of out tables and list items have spaces after the markup character so it's easier to see in source, so I'm kinda wondering if there's something wrong you're seeing that's making you remove them. Get back to me, thanks.  The Gunny  UserGunny chevrons 20:44, February 27, 2014 (UTC)
Ok. Well, I'd appreciate it if you didn't remove any of those extra spaces that mediawiki ignores. We are pretty consistent in our display of the source code, and I'd rather have all pages with spaces, than a bunch with and the ones you've edited without. Thanks in advance. The Gunny  UserGunny chevrons 23:52, February 27, 2014 (UTC)
Please leave the space between the asterisk (*) and the text. It doesn't make a difference and personally I prefer the space when I edit. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 13:59, February 28, 2014 (UTC)
Benny, I understand what you're saying, but there's 15,000+ articles and only one person who doesn't like the spaces. I hope you understand. The Gunny  UserGunny chevrons 20:51, February 28, 2014 (UTC)

Test Man[]

His name is Test Man in the G.E.C.K. please leave it as that and do not refer to him as "the test man" as that is improper. Thanks and happy editing.--Kingclyde (talk) 19:37, March 12, 2014 (UTC)

Capitalization/Sections[]

Please refrain from capitalizing article names, they have all (for the most part) been extensively de-capped in accordance with proper encyclopedic conventions. Also, please make sure you have appropriate 'headings' on pages - things like 'trivia' are unacceptable; we use 'behind the scenes' and 'notes', depending. I can see there have been some issues with your past edits as well, so I'm going to suggest you take a look at our editing guidelines. By making these edits you are effectively ignoring our rules, and ignorance of the rules is not an excuse for breaking them, hence the link prior. If you have any questions or need any assistance please feel free to message me on my talk page or via e-mail should you feel more comfortable. I feel like your contributions are in good faith, but I'm afraid continued edits or poor quality/violating rules may be grounds for disciplinary actions, such as blocking. I hope you take this advice and I look forward to working with you in the future. FollowersApocalypseLogo A Follower  Talk  08:51, March 14, 2014 (UTC)

I understand that you are only trying to help, hence why I directed you to the above link. As one of the larger gaming wikis, we have different (often higher) standards for content than some of the other wikis, which can be a bit difficult to grasp for new users. We all learn from experience, but it's better to get you on the right track with the guidelines than for us to have to follow and fix preventable bad edits. I hope I didn't come off as angry with my prior message, I am anything but angry at your contributions - I'd just rather see you go down the correct path. Again, if you have any questions feel free to message me. Happy editing! FollowersApocalypseLogo A Follower  Talk  16:49, March 14, 2014 (UTC)

Fast Shot[]

Where exactly do you find AMDIDEX.FRM? Any chance you could take a screenshot to verify it? Paladin117>>iff bored; 00:41, April 11, 2014 (UTC)

So, just to be clear, you're adding info on the Fallout 1 demo to the Fallout: New Vegas section? Paladin117>>iff bored; 12:56, April 11, 2014 (UTC)

Thanks[]

Hi Benny,

Just wanted to say thanks for your contributions to date, I've noticed your regular morning/early afternoon editing, and your contributions are very welcome ones. We need more like you. Agent c (talk) 12:03, May 6, 2014 (UTC)

Weapon sounds[]

I got those weapon sound files from Nexus mods. There is a zip file containing all sounds which I used. First I did the same thing you did, extracting from master.dat, then the weapon sounds are in the SFX map. Weapon sounds start with W.. Except I can't figure out which code stands for which weapon. Do you know then? Jspoel Speech Jspoel 23:43, May 17, 2014 (UTC)

You cannot revert someone that reverted your edit, that's edit warring which is against policy. You have to come to an agreement before any edit can be made now. Paladin117>>iff bored; 02:41, May 18, 2014 (UTC)

I don't know anything about sound files, so I have no input here. You will have to talk with Jspoelstra about them. Paladin117>>iff bored; 19:04, May 18, 2014 (UTC)
Looks like jokes on you, then, until you get to study a bit on game resources. --Breakin'Benny (talk) 08:47, May 19, 2014 (UTC)
I compared the 14mm pistol in-game with the sound that originially was there and they match I think. Yours isn't an improvement. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 19:50, May 20, 2014 (UTC)
Nexus tells me they're the original sounds from Fallout 2 weapons. I got them here. 14mm pistol, .223 pistol and .44 magnum revolver use the same sound.

( You can upload weapon soundfiles you think are correct to your sandbox with the weapon's name to it, and I'll have a listen to it. As far as I'm concerned the sounds from the Nexus are ok (14mm sounded good to me comparing the W-file and the in-game sound) but you can give it a try. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 22:17, May 20, 2014 (UTC)

OK. I loaded the three files in Audacity and there you see, the original and the Nexus are the same. Yours is way off. Don't know how you created that W-file, but mine is how you see it at the top and to verify it I've overwritten SigS 223 magnum.ogg with my W-file. They're the same. I rest my case. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 16:28, May 22, 2014 (UTC)
223 soundfile stuff
I use a program called ACMConv. You shouldn't convert them to mono, that's probably why yours is off. Just convert them normally (stereo?) and use Audacity to slow down the frequence from 22050 t0 11025, if that's needed. I get the wav file in normal speed straight away when using ACMConv. Then I convert it to .ogg by using Audacity. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 16:41, May 22, 2014 (UTC)

Russian Text[]

The Russian text at the bottom of pages is a link to the Russian Fallout wiki's version of that article, it's an interwiki link. When looking at the page view as opposed to the editing screen it shows up as "Languages:(whatever languages have an interwiki link to the article). Richie9999 (talk) 16:10, May 19, 2014 (UTC)

Sorry about breaking the subject line there, I clicked enter in the subject line/edit summary box like I do when I leave an edit summary. Of course that splits the end of the subject line from the formatting. Richie9999 (talk) 17:26, May 19, 2014 (UTC)

Fallout Hub ending[]

Hey, how did you restore the quest in Fallout to report Iguana Bob to the Hub police? What did you download?

Brandon Fox (talk) 12:48, May 25, 2014 (UTC)

I've just finished my playthrough of Fallout with the FIXT mod, the added content is good! I've previously had a Team X patch which gave a couple of cut quests like the find the children spy quest but it still wasn't enough because of that global variable to train the followers.. I also used a save file editor to fix check the global variables of "be kind to Harold" and "Train Followers" so that I can get the good endings for the Hub and Followers at last.

Thanks for telling me about this. This is the first time in a Fallout playthrough that's I've managed to get all of the good endings!

Brandon Fox (talk) 21:47, May 26, 2014 (UTC)

That's weird, I only used the Fixt mod for the game and I had the quest to find Heather the Children spy. Granted, there's nobody around to give me the quest to find the spy like in the TeamX patch (Talius gives you the quest in the library basement) but Heather is there in my game and I can talk to her and have my character say "I think I have already found the Spy" and then kill her afterwards and the find the spy quest is crossed out on my Pip-boy tab. When I then talk the basement ghoul afterwards he will say "Thanks for removing from our midst that traitor Heather".

The only other thing I had to get the good ending for them was change the global variable to train them, the same as the Hub.

Brandon Fox (talk) 13:09, May 27, 2014 (UTC)

Ending images[]

How did you create Mutant? I can't find it in the extracted master.dat files (\Art map). And do you know where to get the high res talking head images? There are images in the Arts\Heads map but they are very low res and fuzzy. Same thing with the backgrounds for the talking heads. The heads on the wiki are much sharper and not taken in-game I think. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 21:02, June 1, 2014 (UTC)

I see you used the Fixt version of Fallout for that. That's about the only good one there. But low and below, today I found an frm viewer that can view the images properly. All endings images are in original Intrface map and the talking heads I have to combine with layers, background and heads. Then I get very close to what you see on the pages. Still not exactly the same though, mine end up a bit bright. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 15:46, June 2, 2014 (UTC)

Edits[]

Glad to see an editor becoming so active! Just as a tip, may I suggest using the preview button before publishing your edits? I have looked at your edits before, and it appears to be a bit common from your end to see a few grammar mistakes which are easily fixable by proofreading your edits. Not trying to bust your chops or anything - it just helps out a lot when edits are done properly the first time around, or else other editors will begin following you more frequently to make sure you are not making further mistakes.

Happy editing! ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 09:03, June 2, 2014 (UTC)

Edit warring[]

Warning red Hello Breakin'Benny, please refrain from edit warring. If you feel your edits have been reverted without cause, leave a message on the article talk page, with the reverting editor, or one of Nukapedia's active administrators. Do not continue to edit war, as this will result in administrative action. You should take this opportunity to completely familiarize yourself with Nukapedia's user policies and content guidelines, if you have not yet done so.
Richie9999 (talk) 16:11, June 2, 2014 (UTC)

RE: Naming Conventions[]

I was referring to the capitalization policy. The name Nuka Launcher seemed to me like a common name rather than a proper one, along the lines of missile launcher, etc. In that case, according to the Naming guidelines it would not be capitalized, regardless of what one perceives to "look better". Richie9999 (talk) 15:15, June 6, 2014 (UTC)

Cut stuff[]

Hi Benny, I've noticed you working on a lot of cut content for Fallout 1/2 recently... I'd really like to put a spotlight on this, some sort of regular blog feature on the forgotten bits of Fallout - Cut content, undeveloped ideas, and more.

Wondering if this is something you might be interested in doing. Hit me up on my talk page if you're interested. Agent c (talk) 21:51, June 6, 2014 (UTC)

Fallout 2 kids[]

Page doesn't exist, but I made that red link so someone (maybe you?) sees it and clicks on it to make the page. Several others of those can be found on Special:WantedPages. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 12:05, June 19, 2014 (UTC)

Every wiki has to decide for themselves if they include mods or not. Maybe they do on the Carmageddon wiki, maybe they don't. Not many people there to pay attention there from the looks of it. You can help out here with the wanted pages here if you want. You'd do me a favor with it. In the past few weeks I created 20 or so Fallout 2 red link pages. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 12:19, June 19, 2014 (UTC)

There is a leave message button (I just used it to post this). You just can't see it because it's your talk page. Navy athletics Don't give up the ship! Bill the goat 13:45, June 19, 2014 (UTC)

Sound files[]

If you can get better quality soundfiles, by all means upload them to the wiki. You'll find most of those slowed down soundfiles on the Fallout talking head character pages. And thanks for creating the boxer page. One to chalk off the list. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 23:33, June 19, 2014 (UTC)

That's what I thought as well and although not sounding exactly like in the game, found it acceptable to put them on the pages. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 23:41, June 19, 2014 (UTC)

Transclude[]

For any transcluded section, you have to make the edit to the page from which it is transcluded in order to make the change. Hope that answers your question! FollowersApocalypseLogo A Follower  Talk  03:00, June 20, 2014 (UTC)

Weapon sounds[]

That's not a serious request right? That was your choice to spend so much time on those weapons sounds. Only one page for each weapon. Time to lay those 2 weapons to rest and move on with other things. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 21:59, June 20, 2014 (UTC)

New perk pages[]

How do you know the effect of those Fallout Combat perks you created today (like energy resistance with the Combat Armor perk? I can't seem to find them. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 20:22, July 2, 2014 (UTC)

Ok I meant radiation resistance. But how do you know what each perk does exactly? Jspoel Speech Jspoel 21:15, July 2, 2014 (UTC)

Dog tags (Fallout 2)[]

Where did you find that description for the Fallout 2 dog tags page (Dickinson)? Also, you added as related quest "Stop the Enclave", while you refer to Killian Darkwater who is a Fallout character, not a Fallout 2 character. So that doesn't add up. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 18:46, July 3, 2014 (UTC)

Still waiting for an answer on this. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 01:20, July 6, 2014 (UTC)

Pagename template[]

Hey Benny, just a heads up, we dont use the pagename template if we can help it. The more templates a page needs to call, the slower it loads, so we stick to using templates just for more complicated stuff where not using them is a pain or impossible. Agent c (talk) 23:10, July 5, 2014 (UTC)

Break tags[]

We use <br /> here which is supported by xhtml, not <br>. So, if you would stop replacing them. Thanks. Paladin117>>iff bored; 11:36, July 6, 2014 (UTC)

Player[]

Thank you for editing out the word "player" where it's really redundant; it's something the wiki needs to work on, so thanks for taking the time to help.

Just make sure not to replace "player" with "you" when you're talking about the player character (by which I mean the Chosen One, Courier, etc.). For example, don't say, "You can talk to this character by going upstairs." Instead, it should be "The player character can talk...." This is because it's the in-game character -- not the person who is playing the game ("the player") -- that's doing the talking. 69.l25 (talk) 20:26, July 13, 2014 (UTC)

Being a dick[]

Last I checked Jspoel isn't even signed up for participating on that project. And just because they edit the page doesn't mean they are under any obligation to look through every project to try and figure out extra shit to do. If you want to work on the project then fine, but keep the snide comments in edit summaries to yourself. Great Mara (talk) 22:04, August 3, 2014 (UTC)

Animated critters[]

You shouldn't remove those animated critter pics, certainly not from userpages. I can live with them being replaced in the main section article pages, but they should have a place somewhere at least (in the gallery). Jspoel Speech Jspoel 23:07, August 22, 2014 (UTC)

Katja[]

You need to doublecheck your edits for grammar "She will be hostile if the player character has made Shady Sands so before trying to recruiting her." That's not a sentence I can read properly. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 10:47, August 28, 2014 (UTC)

Party.txt[]

Where did you find the party.txt file? It's not on the wiki. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 18:50, September 6, 2014 (UTC)

I found the Party.txt file and added it to the wiki. Doc Jones reference is ok. I reverted the ammo navbox changes though. All these ammo types have their own name and proto and I want them mentioned seperately in the navbox. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 11:13, September 11, 2014 (UTC)

MegatonAbandonedHouseDummyCell[]

Edit Summaries[]

A "the" in the Vault Dweller's name, or it's like being named "Guard"...and "Guard" is not as good a name as "Gaytard".— You

Ok, so what exactly do you mean by this edit summary? I only ask because of the use of the offensive insult "Gaytard" that seems to have nothing to do with anything and is against policy. Paladin117>>iff bored; 16:40, November 3, 2014 (UTC)

Tag Skills[]

Why exactly are you removing the tag skills from various NPCs? Even if they can't use them, that doesn't change the fact that they were set to have them. It would be like me removing a weapon from an NPC because they don't have the ammo for it. This wiki is supposed to list everything about a character, not pick and choose what to have and what not to have. Paladin117>>iff bored; 16:15, December 9, 2014 (UTC)

Edit summaries[]

"You" here, fuck *you writers*— You

Ok, this is your final warning, any more edit summaries like this one and you're banned for multiple user conduct violations. Good day. Paladin117>>iff bored; 14:05, February 25, 2015 (UTC)

It means to insult those folks who made second-person things on pages related to gameplay, in the first place. My apologies for such shocking commentary, I've never made good jokes anyway. --Breakin'Benny (talk) 14:54, February 25, 2015 (UTC)

Edit summaries[]

Not all of the pages are fixed actually, mind you. As some still breaks the "fourth wall" and it requires to be fixed all the time. In my opinion, I believe its best not to say or leave anything unto the edit summaries at all. ------Cassie Ultimate Anime Loving Weeaboo. 09:35, April 9, 2015 (UTC)

What might the internal statistics for these knuckleheads in the Fallout demo be?
Okay, what does this comment even mean? I only ask because of the "knucklehead" insult, which has nothing to do with this article. If your trying to stick with the third person project, then do it, but I suggest to keep your comments unto the edit summary to yourself! ------Cassie Ultimate Anime Loving Weeaboo. 11:52, April 9, 2015 (UTC)
I'm very lonely on editing many of these articles, and I've never even been able to see what they have in Cubik's critter editor because multitasking is a nice subject. I referred to the characters in the Fallout demo as that term because their majority consists of battle-happy individuals, whereas there is little diplomacy involved since Max Stone is the only playable one... and not even alternates like Albert Cole can be picked. --Breakin'Benny (talk) 12:00, April 9, 2015 (UTC)

One thing I should tell you, some people doesn't get the joke, mind you. To which I don't as well. In my opinion as I stated above, it's recommended not to make anymore jokes or leave anything unusual as they're kind of a bit unpleasant. Best to leave the edit summary alone.------Cassie Ultimate Anime Loving Weeaboo. 12:04, April 9, 2015 (UTC)

Tag skills[]

You realize there's virtually no chance of the tag skills template being merged into infobox template, right? The template is way to large and would be too much of a bloat. So, can you stop blathering about it in the edit comments and start using the comments correctly? Thanks. Paladin117>>iff bored; 22:04, May 28, 2015 (UTC)

Patroller[]

Hi Benny, given how much you're doing, particularly in the Euro-Morning, I'd like to give you paroller rights. How would you feel about that? It does mean you can see what has been checked by a trustted user and not, mark stuff that others have done as being patrolled, and "rollback" bad edits (which is faster than undo, and if someone does a multi-edit vandal effort, you can undo them all at go. Agent c (talk) 20:03, June 4, 2015 (UTC)

Hello Agent c, I am pleased to take the position of patrolling when the US folks' shift end. It'll be a pleasure. --Breakin'Benny (talk) 06:24, June 5, 2015 (UTC)

I would like to use the Christmas/New Year-wishes-tradition, to thank those around me who kept this wikia and daily life more fun for me during the past year. Everything just seems so normal and evident that we are here almost every day, yet it's very worthwhile to consider for a moment how wonderful it is to have people like you around me, making editing and being on chat a lot more enjoyable. I saw your comment on Vic. I checked his dialogue file and the only time he gives unique dialogue when someone is attacked is in Valerie's case (Unless you count his comment about Mom being killed by the player but they is nothing there to imply he will attack you should you attack her). Wikia's forced addition of videos to the wiki[]

Hello, I realise you may not have edited the wiki, or even visited us in a while. We do miss you, and I apologise for contacting you with a request for help… but we do need it, and there’s not much you need to do to help us.

As you may be aware, Wikia/Fandom have added a number of videos to pages on the wiki that they have self authored. Although the consensus view so far seems to be that these are not to our standards, I encourage you to view these for yourself and make up your own mind.

You can find a link to all the videos, and a petition I would like you to consider here. If you believe that these videos do not meet our standards, detract from the wiki, and should be removed, I encourage you to vote yes on this petition. You are of course welcome to vote no if you do not believe this is the case.

Thank you for your consideration. Agent c (talk) 21:19, September 7, 2017 (UTC)

Video Negotiated Settlement[]

Thank you very much for your vote on the petition. We have had talks with Wikia/Fandom, and a settlement has been proposed. I encourage you to review it and have your say here. Agent c (talk) 20:37, September 8, 2017 (UTC)

Video Forums[]

Thank you for participating in the video forums so far.

In order to work out where to go from here, I've created another forum asking the community where our "Red line" is, and whether or not I should continue to be the point person on this.

You can find the new forum here. I look forward to seeing your thoughts on this matter. Agent c (talk) 16:16, September 10, 2017 (UTC)

All Hands Meeting[]

Okay, I think its clear that going ahead with a meeting is a good idea. At this stage I would like to open the floor to agenda items. We have the following things to discuss.

  • An update on any negotiations, and other actions
  • Possible action to progress our case further whilst staying on network
  • Possible engagement with Wikia on video in line with the proposed deal- if we should participate and whom that contact person should be.
  • Possible alternatives if the situation cannot be resolved.

Please let me know if you want anything added to the agenda here

I'll be asking a number of people to speak on certain issues, but as always there will be plenty of room for discussion.

I propose that the meeting be held at 3pm North American Eastern Time on Sunday 24 September, this should be 8pm in London, 9pm Central European time, and Midday North American Western. If there are any objections please note them below and we'll look into alternative scheduling, the more objections the harder we look for a new time.

We have arranged facilities for the meeting, it will be held online. It is open to all persons who have participated in any of the video discussion threads up to today, except those employed by Fandom/Wikia inc (as this is the Community's meeting), or have been employed by them in the recent past.

Votes taken in this meeting will be taken as consensus view of the wiki, so everyone is encouraged to attend.

We have setup a discord server (Nukapedia's Fallout Shelter) located here. It is mobile friendly (via an app) and is very flexible.

Although everyone is welcome in our social space (The-Common-Room), only persons who meet the above criteria will be admitted to The-Town-Hall (where the meeting will be located). You may be asked to verify your account before this access is granted. Agent c (talk) 21:53, September 11, 2017 (UTC)

Our relationship with Wikia[]

Hi, You’ve previously expressed an opinion on whether we should remain with Wikia, and the Featured Video Situation. Its really important we hear from you again about what we should do about it. Please participate in the vote here. Agent c (talk) 13:05, August 11, 2018 (UTC)

Call to Action[]

There have been quite a few sweeping changes to the wiki lately, and now that the Unified Community Platform has come to fruition here, it's more important than ever for our leadership to get together and inspire innovative changes for the next generation of wiki editors/readers.

As someone who is somewhat inactive myself, I understand how life gets in the way, and I'll fully understand if many of you are unable to commit, but I'd still like to try my best to appeal to you all in getting involved in a few of our currently active projects; especially so since rights-users participating in our discussions/votes are at an all-time low, and many internal decisions are having to be made between a select few users, which is bad for building consensus on important matters.

As such, I would like to ask for you all to look into two of our most important projects right now, as it would mean a lot to me and the wiki if as many people as possible got directly involved in helping shape our future:

  1. The Vault Academy is a program for the training and acclimation of new and even veteran users, training them on how to get involved in the various facets of the wiki, as well as helping them build bonds with their fellow users. The program has kicked off in a big way, and we are in desperate need of more rights-users to sign on as mentors, as we're having to share multiple mentees between each mentor. If you're looking to leave your mark on the wiki, then signing onto TVA program will be your way of doing so.
  2. As a minor update, we now have a new plagiarism point of contact. Should you suspect plagiarized content is at play, please get into point with the user FDekker who will be the initial handler of all such cases going forward.
  3. We have an upcoming meeting of the minds coming up on the 20th of this month, and we need people to come forth and pitch their ideas for adapting to the recent UCP changes, and to possibly adopt some of the ideas that our new datamining friends have been pitching to us.

Thanks for your consideration, and I do hope to hear back from you all! Even if it is just some of you dropping by to check the place out and say a quick hello. 寧靜 Fox 14:12, 13 November 2020 (UTC)

Player and wiki manual of style[]

No problem, sorry if it felt like we were being arbitrary undoing your edit. It used to be the wiki used the full term player character, but there was a standardisation vote as part of a wider series of changes a couple of years ago, which isn't something that the Wikipedia manual of style we direct users to covers. Here's the vote if you're interested, and sorry for the confusion.

Forum:Vote: Standardized terminology for referring to player/player character
