You have to play Mothership Zeta, and look out of the ship and spend a few minutes familiarising the geography and textures of the planet, and then you can figure out the landmasses, that's the only way. The info about Algonguin Provincial Park's been on here for a good 4 years now, and when I looked at the planet in my past playthroughs, the death ray shot went within Ontario. Same thing for the support mothership crash site, with it being in Nunavut's Great Bear Lake, that's where it goes, you have to familiarise with the geography of the planet and then watch where it lands. User ayyyy  OfficialLolGuy  Talk  Blog  06:33, September 2, 2015 (UTC)

I've come to a new realisation on it, actually, after looking at the picture from a different angle, only played MZ about three times. It seems that the Death Ray actually fires at the Great Bear Lake, and as for the support mothership crash site I'm not sure, since I'd have to play the game. But basically, look at the body of water in the image, and type in "Great Bear Lake" on Google Maps, and click on the "Earth" option at the bottom-left so it shows the map in reality.

Now, it appears that in MZ, we're facing south as we look at the Earth. On the death ray image, right near the explosion, there's a small peninsula beginning with a thin line and then a large circle sticking out into the lake. Compare this to the Google Maps, it looks the same. And on the death ray image, just south of that circular peninsula in the water is another peninsula. Compare it with Google Maps again, and it looks the same. Even on the death ray image's north-west part of the lake, which would be the south-east part on Google Maps, there's a very thin river leading to a large circular body of water. When compared to both, the geography of both real life and Fallout versions of the Great Bear Lake look about the same, with only a very small few tiny differences in the Fallout version, but almost entirely about the same. There's also no other place near that size in the world that looks similar to the Great Bear Lake, because I just looked on Google Maps.

The support mothership lands what is north of the lake, near the Tuktut Nogait National Park, literally right near the border between Nunavut and the Northwest Territories, I can't tell which side it crashes on. User ayyyy  OfficialLolGuy  Talk  Blog  07:15, September 2, 2015 (UTC)

Yeye it's alright bro, but yeah I'm 99% sure it's the Great Bear Lake, and nor the death ray shot or the support ship go anywhere near Algonquin Park, so it must have been someone who must have incorrectly assumed the bodies of water were the Great Lakes near Michigan. But yeah, the support ship can be seen going downwards if you go onto the lower tier of the bridge behind the death ray button, and it can be seen going smaller and smaller, further towards Earth, and lands south of the lake and the death ray shot (but actually north, since it appears south due to position of Zeta above Earth), and crashes within the zone of Tuktut Park. Game Guide app[]

Heya, JASPER42!

I didn't know if you were aware, but we have an Android and Apple game app specifically for Fallout. I would love to have a link to them on the main page - I've got an image all ready and a link users can plug their phone numbers into for the SMS code. The app content page looks up to date to me, but if you want to give it a once-over, that would be appreciated.

We're looking into ways to promote it even further - maybe on individual game pages? - but we're open to any and all ideas :)

Best regards,

Re:YouTube[]

I was not aware of the change (as evidenced by my own user page :P), so could you link me with the updated YT template? That way I can assess whether or not the update can be done via AWB. --Skire (talk) 19:29, September 17, 2015 (UTC)

Since most people have their YouTubePlayer templates in multiple lines, it becomes hard (if not impossible) to correct via AWB. Keep in mind this program is pretty limited in capability. It's also hard to transfer the autoplay settings over via bot. I'll try to see if I can get around to using the bot with some manual work to change them. --Skire (talk) 21:46, September 18, 2015 (UTC)
I've looked a bit more into the task. Basically, the multiple lines and the autoplay option make it better for users to just correct it themselves. We should post a notice that the YoutubePlayer template is now defunct, along with instructions for how to use the coding. That way, people can decide whether they want autoplay or not, or even if they want to centre the player. --Skire (talk) 04:38, September 22, 2015 (UTC)
Actually, it seems that there is no option for autoplay using the YT extension (as opposed to the template). Any documentation thereof is lacking from the YT extension article by Wikia CC. --Skire (talk) 05:14, September 22, 2015 (UTC)

Gaming footers[]

Hi, JASPER42!

I was wondering if you had an opinion on this site being included in the new gaming footers? We'd love for the Fallout community to be included!

Best regards,

Portable infoboxes[]

Heya :) Just stopping by to see if you have any thoughts on the Portable infobox project that Shining-Armor started up a little while ago. Because of Fallout's obvious importance to Wikia, particularly as we approach the launch of Fallout 4, we'd like to make sure that all your infoboxes are as accessible by mobile devices as is possible. Please drop by the forum as soon as you can and give your views. And of course my user talk page is always open to whatever comments — even rude ones — that you'd like to make!

entry idea[]

It appears that you are an irregular administrator. That is unfortunate, but I trust your judgement. So, do you like the idea of having separate entries for women and men? I’m not suggesting that we index all of them, but just list the player differences in gameplay. It would save people’s time to have them all compiled in one place that’s more facile to access, even if it is redundant. If you object to this idea, please let me know why. Walkthrough[]

Uhm, there is Fallout 3 walkthrough. The reason the article gets created over and over is, that it is linked from Portal:Fallout 4. Of course someone would need to write a halfway decent article, not just create a page without useful content. --Alfwyn (talk) 21:57, January 4, 2016 (UTC)

Walkthroughs[]

I don't agree with these walkthrough deletions. They've been there for ages and I consider them an exception to the rule. We don't need a long story, but a general summary of the main events is useful. You didn't even check the links to it, it's on the main page. Very unthoughtful. Sending this also to Agent c. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 22:43, January 4, 2016 (UTC)

It's telling for your qualities as an admin to know you can't fix those links. Why don't you start adding content for a change instead of seeing what you can delete. I'll see about that forum. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 23:20, January 4, 2016 (UTC)

The main thing bothering me is 73.229.16.67 edit summary comes across as hostile and rude. I left a message on the IP editor's page talk page about how he may have misinterpreted my edit summary. "Aug Pride" event inclusion[]

Hi, JASPER42!

Wikia has partnered with Square Enix to create an "Aug Pride" event (Augmentation Pride) that will run across some of our most active SE communities. This is, in part, to highlight Deus Ex: Mankind, but looks like something fun that a lot of people might enjoy.

We'd like your community's permission to run an outreach campaign here for the event; the event itself would run elsewhere:

  • Wikia would like to publish a blog/forum post asking community members for ideas on how they would mechanically "augment" their favorite Fallout character (for example, giving bionic legs to jump higher, or an invisibility cloak so they can't be caught)
  • After 1 week, Wikia will go through the submissions and pick one to get turned into a custom piece of art.
  • Once all eight augmented characters have been created from the various communities, Wikia will create a bracket tournament asking all of Wikia to vote
  • 1 augmented character will reign supreme!

Let me know if this is okay! :) Thanks Raylan13 (talk) 17:53, July 12, 2016 (UTC)

Merry Christmas and (a bit too early to wish it already, but I'll do it already anyway) a Happy New Year![]

I would like to use the Christmas/New Year-wishes-tradition, to thank those around me who kept this wikia and daily life more fun for me during the past year. Everything just seems so normal and evident that we are here almost every day, yet it's very worthwhile to consider for a moment how wonderful it is to have people like you around me, making editing and being on chat a lot more enjoyable. I would also like to use this opportunity to wish a happy and healthy new year for you and everyone around you who is dear to you. Admin talk blog[]

Please see User blog:The Gunny/Admin talk - Discussions moderation for a few site wide changes wikia has made as well as some details on discussions moderating. I will be opening a discussions topic in the next day or so with the intent to better introduce all of our site moderation team to the users there (most of them have no idea who most of us are). When that topic goes live, I will leave another talk page message for you asking that you navigate to the topic to introduce yourself and interact a bit with users there. I feel this is very important and a problem we need to fix. The Gunny  UserGunny chevrons 16:42, July 2, 2017 (UTC)

I plan on making that discussions topic tomorrow finally, around noonish my time. I plan on introducing the rest of the admin/mod team who the discussions users don't know very well. I am going to do it in a kinda AMA format, and I'll start by explaining who I am and what I do here. I would really appreciate it if any admins/mods who don't currently spend a lot of time there to chime in. I really feel this is important.  The Gunny  UserGunny chevrons 01:31, July 8, 2017 (UTC)

Wikia's forced addition of videos to the wiki[]

Hello, I realise you may not have edited the wiki, or even visited us in a while. We do miss you, and I apologise for contacting you with a request for help… but we do need it, and there’s not much you need to do to help us.

As you may be aware, Wikia/Fandom have added a number of videos to pages on the wiki that they have self authored. Although the consensus view so far seems to be that these are not to our standards, I encourage you to view these for yourself and make up your own mind.

You can find a link to all the videos, and a petition I would like you to consider here. If you believe that these videos do not meet our standards, detract from the wiki, and should be removed, I encourage you to vote yes on this petition. You are of course welcome to vote no if you do not believe this is the case.

Thank you for your consideration. Agent c (talk) 21:21, September 7, 2017 (UTC)

Video Negotiated Settlement[]

Thank you very much for your vote on the petition. We have had talks with Wikia/Fandom, and a settlement has been proposed. I encourage you to review it and have your say here. Agent c (talk) 20:37, September 8, 2017 (UTC)

Our relationship with Wikia[]

Hi, You’ve previously expressed an opinion on whether we should remain with Wikia, and the Featured Video Situation. Its really important we hear from you again about what we should do about it. Please participate in the vote here. Agent c (talk) 13:06, August 11, 2018 (UTC)

Call to Action[]

There have been quite a few sweeping changes to the wiki lately, and now that the Unified Community Platform has come to fruition here, it's more important than ever for our leadership to get together and inspire innovative changes for the next generation of wiki editors/readers.

As someone who is somewhat inactive myself, I understand how life gets in the way, and I'll fully understand if many of you are unable to commit, but I'd still like to try my best to appeal to you all in getting involved in a few of our currently active projects; especially so since rights-users participating in our discussions/votes are at an all-time low, and many internal decisions are having to be made between a select few users, which is bad for building consensus on important matters.

As such, I would like to ask for you all to look into two of our most important projects right now, as it would mean a lot to me and the wiki if as many people as possible got directly involved in helping shape our future:

  1. The Vault Academy is a program for the training and acclimation of new and even veteran users, training them on how to get involved in the various facets of the wiki, as well as helping them build bonds with their fellow users. The program has kicked off in a big way, and we are in desperate need of more rights-users to sign on as mentors, as we're having to share multiple mentees between each mentor. If you're looking to leave your mark on the wiki, then signing onto TVA program will be your way of doing so.
  2. As a minor update, we now have a new plagiarism point of contact. Should you suspect plagiarized content is at play, please get into point with the user FDekker who will be the initial handler of all such cases going forward.
  3. We have an upcoming meeting of the minds coming up on the 20th of this month, and we need people to come forth and pitch their ideas for adapting to the recent UCP changes, and to possibly adopt some of the ideas that our new datamining friends have been pitching to us.

Thanks for your consideration, and I do hope to hear back from you all! Even if it is just some of you dropping by to check the place out and say a quick hello. 寧靜 Fox 14:12, 13 November 2020 (UTC)
