Quest IDs[]

Where do you get these quest IDs if I may ask? Jspoel Speech Jspoel 16:44, November 20, 2015 (UTC)

From the dump provided here. I'll plan to dig in the game files myself soon, but currently this is the fastest method for me. --Alfwyn (talk) 16:49, November 20, 2015 (UTC)
Ok, I found them. If you continue with it, you should use the 2nd column with the numbers, not the 3rd column. The number starts the quest (setstage <questID> stage number). Jspoel Speech Jspoel 17:26, November 20, 2015 (UTC)
Well, you can use either to start the quest. So "Nuclear Family" can be started by either "setstage Inst308 10" or by "setstage 000bad00 10". But I think the former is preferrable since it is more human friendly. Anyway, the formid (numerical) approach has the drawack that once add-ons will come out, the first two digits won't be fixed but will depend on the load order of add-ons/mods, while the edid (editor id, "Inst308") will stay fixed for add-ons too. Or we could document both IDs, I tried that approach for "Nuclear Family" on Fallout 4 quests. --Alfwyn (talk) 11:38, November 21, 2015 (UTC)

Infobox location[]

Hey that's pretty neat what you just did with the location infobox. Can you do the same with the other templates that have been converted? Jspoel Speech Jspoel 14:01, December 3, 2015 (UTC)

Thanks. Yeah, was the plan after giving people a short time to spot if there are any problems with it. --Alfwyn (talk) 14:03, December 3, 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for fixing miscellaneous problems with the new infoboxes, also the mentioned only thing. Though I'd rather see a hyphen instead of 'none'. Best would be to see it removed all together with 'none' but that doesn't seem to be possible. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 15:58, December 4, 2015 (UTC)
I just changed it to "—", it is easily changed to something else if desired. --Alfwyn (talk) 16:06, December 4, 2015 (UTC)
Can you use a space? Jspoel Speech Jspoel 16:09, December 4, 2015 (UTC)

Syringe ammo[]

Hey there, I'm quite curious as to why you hid it, you could have at least add it instead. Since it uses the same skyrim engine, I'm pretty sure this method will work: Try opening console command, input "help" follow by the item (i.e "help syringe"). See if you could find the item and its baseID. Hope this one helps. :) ------Cassie Ultimate Anime Loving Weeaboo. 10:16, December 6, 2015 (UTC)

Because it's not a single item. Sure, I could replicate all the baseIDs from the table below, but I don't see much value in that. --Alfwyn (talk) 10:19, December 6, 2015 (UTC)

Oops, my apologies. I didn't notice those IDs below were already written (Which I thought there is none), my bad actually. I lose concentration and only noticed your edit part. I'm too careless. :P ------Cassie Ultimate Anime Loving Weeaboo. 05:02, December 8, 2015 (UTC)

Youtube upload[]

It does that upload automatic, once you edit a page where a youtube link is on (like that userpage), or youtube tag is added to. It's like you say, the new conversion (since a year or so). Let it upload, it's fine. Thanks for your work and time btw, I've noticed it. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 15:20, December 6, 2015 (UTC)

Radio navbox[]

I went back and did it all from the beginning - looks like you fixed it at the same time! What did I leave out/in that broke it? Mctaff350 (talk) 00:26, December 7, 2015 (UTC)

This, just one ] at the end of the last link. --Alfwyn (talk) 00:29, December 7, 2015 (UTC)

Thanks heaps for that. You have no idea the panic that my keyboard had when I saw that jumbled mess! Mctaff350 (talk) 00:32, December 7, 2015 (UTC)

Infobox labels[]

It wasn't intended to go to a very low contrast. I merely took a reading in Photoshop of the color of the labels in the non-PIs and applied it to the PIs. Looks like I grabbed from the wrong part of the letter I blew up. No biggie; easily changed.
czechout    00:40: Wed 09 Dec 2015

Okay, that to my eyes looks like more of a match for the current, non-PI label color. Sorry for the interlude through illegibility, and thanks for pointing it out quickly!
czechout    00:49: Wed 09 Dec 2015

Patroller rights[]

Alfwyn, I'm giving you patroller rights. You've made a bit of name for yourself here by now and it has not gone unnoticed. You have skills and dedication and that's what we like to see on the wiki. Congrats, next step who knows admin! Jspoel Speech Jspoel 12:05, December 10, 2015 (UTC)

Thanks. Looks like there's currently not much patrolling going on around here, I guess this changes again once things have quieted down a bit? --Alfwyn (talk) 13:53, December 10, 2015 (UTC)
Not too much patrolling going on unfortunately. Me and Energy X have done most of it since the release of Fallout 4 (you can see it in the people doing the blocking) and we can't keep up. If you can help out with reverting/improving bad (grammar) edits/layout formatting, like I'm doing right now, that's great. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 14:08, December 10, 2015 (UTC)

Thanks[]

TY for edit (a script error) ^^ Edeline :) (talk) 21:08, December 10, 2015 (UTC)

Fallout 4 world objects[]

I've changed it. Most general world objects should go on this page. The more notable objects and containers have their own page. 22:14, December 10, 2015 (UTC)Jspoel Speech Jspoel

I've seen it. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 22:57, December 10, 2015 (UTC)

Compressed infobox[]

What option is that? Then I can relay it to Wikia. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 14:38, December 13, 2015 (UTC)

Ok, some more testing. Looks like the same option already existed with old infoboxes, but it didn't compress them. Just clicking on the infobox in the visual editor, then selecting the infobox name in the appearing pop-up, fill in fields, apply, save changes. --Alfwyn (talk) 14:46, December 13, 2015 (UTC)
Hm, perhaps the trigger is something else and PIs are coincidence. This thread mentions a similar problems, it was solved by switching stuff around. That doesn't look like a fix to me, but a workaround. Now to something completely different, apparently one can ask wikia to turn off visual editing for one's wiki, but that would be a drastic step. --Alfwyn (talk) 15:09, December 13, 2015 (UTC)
Just collecting some stuff here as I find it: forgottenrealms --Alfwyn (talk) 15:25, December 13, 2015 (UTC)

Armor infobox[]

Infobox armor gamebryo isn't working as it should now. It knits combinations together. Pages like Roving trader outfit (Fallout 3) displays clothingset in the header. Should be clothing set. I'll contact Wikia about the compressed infobox. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 17:57, December 13, 2015 (UTC)

That's a bit strange and may be connected with the issue here with file names. Removing the # from the escape sequence seems to have fixed it. --Alfwyn (talk) 18:11, December 13, 2015 (UTC)

Localisation[]

Regarding your query on localisation, it was mentioned because it seems that at least one Store name differs. For me in game the Store > Food and Drink > Rank 2 is called 'Bar' but is shown on the wiki as 'Shop'. That may justbe an error. But I also got a question on the use of the name 'Bar' on other posts which seemed to indicate that different terms may have been used, for instance between US English and British 'UK' English. I have the European PC version of the game which I understand has all the available EU languages included. I am just guessing that the US version may be different in some ways. But I can;t check to see if 'Shop' is wrong or some other term is used as mine simply says 'Bar'.

EDIT: I just had a quick check from my notes and comparing to the wiki page the medical ones for example, also differ from that posted as Rank 1 = First Aid Station, Rank 2 = Clinic and Rank 3 = Surgery Center which is the same. The game files show it as Bar also i.e. WorkshopBar02 "Bar" [FURN:001102F1].Lunamoonraker (talk) 00:33, December 17, 2015 (UTC)

  • Could be that they entered the wrong names. Just, as I said, I did have someone query the name on Reddit which made me think this. Hopefully someone with the US version can confirm this is the case or not. I know that they confirmed different languages include in the EU version. I guess they meant the physical disk version. Steam probably does it's own thing as it only shows me English for example. --Lunamoonraker (talk) 17:51, December 17, 2015 (UTC)

SetStage/SetState[]

Hi :) I'm confused. I just corrected "setstate" into "setstage" (with an undo) and now the history shows that I'm the one who changed it from "setstage" to "setstate". What just happened there? This can't be right o_O Mazn (talk) 22:50, December 31, 2015 (UTC)

Oops. Nevermind. It was my mistake all along. That's okay :)

Crystallizing barrel[]

The crystallizing barrel is indeed cut content. How did you find out there is a COBJ 001889C0 creating it? If I use help "crystallizing" 4 (or help "crystalizing" 4, just in case) all I get is the OMOD 00172359, whereas there would normally also be a MISC "(weapon) (mod name)".
- FDekker talk 21:53, January 1, 2016 (UTC)

By grepping through my dump of the data. COBJ (craftable objects) are recipes for things. But it seems that one is actually used by the Cryolator. I'll have to look a bit more into it. --Alfwyn (talk) 22:02, January 1, 2016 (UTC)
Ah, you're right. I applied the mod to the Cryolator and when I removed it again I had a "Cryolator Long Barrel" 001916A8 in my inventory. I'll correct the article now! Thanks!

That's very nice, thanks. I guess I got a bit lucky here too, starting a bit earlier than all the new good editors that have turned up lately. --Alfwyn (talk) 12:04, January 2, 2016 (UTC)

Wild razorgrain[]

I made a confusion between the wild razorgrain and the regular razorgrain as I was updating several components. --YoDsanklai (talk) 23:07, January 4, 2016 (UTC)

Walkthroughs[]

I think they should stay. They're useful, a nice summary of the main story, and people will look for it. Better on our wiki then somewhere else. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 18:45, January 5, 2016 (UTC)

Oh, you can add your golden bottlecap award image to your userpage if you want! Jspoel Speech Jspoel 18:46, January 5, 2016 (UTC)

Happy new year![]

I would like to use the Christmas/New Year-wishes-tradition, though I'm a week late, to thank those around me who kept this wiki and daily life more fun for me during the past year. Everything just seems so normal and evident that we are here almost every day, yet it's very worthwhile to consider for a moment how wonderful it is to have people like you around me, making editing and being on chat a lot more enjoyable. I would also like to use this opportunity to wish a happy and healthy new year for you and everyone around you who is dear to you. I hope you'll have a great and healthy new year in which all your wishes may come true! - Greets Peace'n Hugs (talk) (blog) 00:06, January 6, 2016 (UTC)

Creature stats[]

Hey, if you have some time could you take a look at a template I've modified? The gist of it is, Template:Stats creature FO4 needs to be modified with FO4-relevant information. I sandboxed it and I don't think I've broken anything, but I'm not sure if everything that should be in there is in there. Wanna take a look at User:Xernoc/Sandbox/Template:Stats creature FO4 and tell me if any stats are missing that would be good to have in the table? You can see the table in use on User:Xernoc/Sandbox. I just need a second pair of eyes. --Xernoc (talk) 03:06, January 11, 2016 (UTC)

I've searched pretty hard, but I don't think anyone has a general formula for how much XP a given creature gives in FO4. I do know, however, that if I take my lvl 6 character with 1 INT and kill a lvl 91 legendary mythic deathclaw, I only get 149xp. That makes me pretty confident that whatever the formula is, it's not lvl*10. I think having a formula would be very useful, so maybe once someone discovers a pattern it can be added.
As for perception, there's two minor reasons. First, I can't figure out how it's relevant in FO4. As far as I can tell it doesn't seem to affect how well creatures detect you, but if it does, then we can add it back in. The other reason I took it out was to have an even number of stats so the columns weren't lopsided, but that's a really minor reason in the grand scheme. Looking at the table again we could probably add poison resistance next to perception and have 8 instead of 6. --Xernoc (talk) 18:10, January 11, 2016 (UTC)
One last thought. I'm about to push it live, so I'm updating the documentation. I noticed with the resistances/level/etc that {{yes}} and {{no}} are valid values. I was considering using one of those in the rr category to indicate radiation immunity (as opposed to radiation resistance). The problem is, I can't figure out which gets the point across better. Or should we not bother and just leave a note on each creature's table if they're immune? --Xernoc (talk) 19:33, January 11, 2016 (UTC)
Yeah, I noticed the Health offset correlation. I encountered problems when I tested it with turrets, however. For example, the laser bubble turret 001a854f has an offset of 14, but if I kill one at playerlvl 1 with 1 INT, I get 25XP. So there's definitely more do it than just that number. Health has similar anomalies with the turrets I tested. For example, that same turret is supposed to have 50HP, but instead it has 60. And the Institute blue laser turrets 001271fe don't have any health listed at all, and get 10HP in game. I wasn't able to find if there was a template or something that they were pulling from, but it's definitely something to watch out for. Some creatures's stats may not be complete with what's in a single entry. --Xernoc (talk) 20:50, January 12, 2016 (UTC)

mentioned-only[]

The ones i did so far were all pre-war, so they are safe to put in them. The ones from after the war however, I'd leave in the normal mentioned-only one. - Greets Peace'n Hugs (talk) (blog) 15:15, January 11, 2016 (UTC)

Reminds me, I did make an exception: the guy killed by the synth during the broken mask incident, but if he was a synth, we would have known. -Peace'n Hugs (talk) 15:24, January 11, 2016 (UTC)

Icons[]

Hey nice job on restoring the quest icon in the top right corner! Great. Would be able to restore them for the other pages as well? Location, armor, items etc.? Jspoel Speech Jspoel 16:24, January 12, 2016 (UTC)

I'm a bit divided on this. What I do here is putting an image into a <data> tag instead of an <image> one, which leads to things like positioning the image at -3/1 because I'm fighting against a 2 pixle padding added by css for .pi-data. So if CzechOut can come up with something better, I'm all for it. Another avenue would perhaps be proposing PI improvements to wikia. If we could use <format> inside of <image> this would help quite a bit, and other things like imposing a max-height on infobox images would be easy too. In my view location infoboxes would benefit most from icons, so change that too, then wait a bit more for a better solution? Not sure here. --Alfwyn (talk) 16:43, January 12, 2016 (UTC)
I'm not sure what you mean, it's a bit technical for me. Can you update the various infoboxes the same you did with the quest infobox? I can ask Czechout to work with you if he is available, he was going to work on the starwars wikia but hasn't been active since December 18th there. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 21:42, January 12, 2016 (UTC)
Sorry. What I meant is, that it is a hack that doesn't use the portable infoboxes like intended. Then again it is working without any problems surfacing, so we can change the other infoboxes accordingly and look for a cleaner implementation later. I'll get to it tomorrow. --Alfwyn (talk) 00:58, January 13, 2016 (UTC)

( Two side effects: If someone used [[File: for the image parameter, it looks now messed up and needs fixing. I guess this was only valid after the conversion to PI, but it will pop up on some pages now. Second, the maximal height for images is limited again; I try to figure out the limit the old version did use, but it may need tweaking if something looks odd suddenly (of course reuploading images to something nearer to quadratic should solve it and related layout headaches). --Alfwyn (talk) 18:20, January 13, 2016 (UTC)

Looks good again, those icons in the top right corner. Actually the image parameter is ok again, it is as it was before. [[File:...|thumb]] didn't work previously as it is, so we need to get rid of those. You've done most of them now I believe. The template doesn't have to be changed for that. And, I'm content about the new max height on the infoboxes, here you've also reinstated how it was before, and that's good. I already had some images squared (for example Nuka-Cola (Fallout 3) (just restored it to its old size). It had become much too large/stretched and with the new template the new max height for those kind of images is much better. Still a problem the older game item images, those are too large. Have to think about that. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 00:33, January 14, 2016 (UTC)
On location pages, if there's no image, the icon (if that is added by filling in type) isn't displayed (see Malden Middle School). Can something be done about that? Jspoel Speech Jspoel 00:57, January 14, 2016 (UTC)
Do we generally want an icon displayed without image? And if so how? The upload an image/@hide mechanism is gone, re-instating that wouldn't be trivial, so there is no good place to place that icon. If it is for locations only on a temporary basis till an image is uploaded, would somethig like this do? --Alfwyn (talk) 11:58, January 14, 2016 (UTC)
That's perfect, that icon there in the left of the infobox. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 23:31, January 14, 2016 (UTC)

Correction to drugged water[]

You're correct, although I can't seem to figure out which of the perks is reducing rads from packaged food by 50%. Might this be an additional effect of Wasteland Survival Guide issue #3? Aya42 (talk) 20:52, January 14, 2016 (UTC)

I guess it is the Wasteland perk, but it's just something I noticed that all documented rad values differ from what I see. Now I just load a savegame shortly after leaving the vault for checking such things - and playing on the PC I can just use player.additem for a quick check. --Alfwyn (talk) 21:08, January 14, 2016 (UTC)
Hope you don't mind I moved your reply here - just makes it easier to follow. Irritatingly, I have the PS4 version, so no console commands for me. :/
Let me know if you find out if it's the "Wasteland Survival 3" perk - if so, it's probably worth adding a note to the appropriate page. Aya42 (talk) 22:25, January 14, 2016 (UTC)
I don't mind at all, it's actually what I'm used to. But around here, talk pages are often used more in the "insta messaging" style. Anyway, after some testing, it isn't the Wasteland perk, but the Astoundingly Awesome Tales #10 perk that causes the change in the displayed rads. --Alfwyn (talk) 08:18, January 16, 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for checking. I was dreading having to trek all the way to Egret Tours Marina from a new game, but making it all the way to the Sentinel site would've been even more painful. :/
That does make a certain amount of sense. Presumably the difference between this perk, and armor, is that radiation resistance provided by armor doesn't apply to consumed food items, which also makes sense.
For a perk which grants a permanent +5 radiation resistance bonus, the math would indicate that any radiation source of exactly 5 rads would be reduced by exactly 50%, although it's seemingly rounded down to an integer value for display purposes.
So a can of Cram, which is usually 5 rads, should be displayed as 2 rads, which corresponds with what I see.
However, although a can of canned dog food (usually 2 rads) is being displayed as 0 rads, I still get a "< 1 rads" warning when eating one, so I guess it's applying the damage as a floating point value, even though the rads are displayed as an integer.
Anyways, have added a note to the Astoundingly Awesome Tales page.

Quest footer[]

The footer for quest pages doesn't fit anymore, for example Kid in a Fridge. Can you take a look at it? Jspoel Speech Jspoel 16:08, January 15, 2016 (UTC)

There's still a very slight padding error to the left and at the top. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 16:49, January 15, 2016 (UTC)
Yes, it's basically two pixels padding inherited from .pi-data - and we want a bit of padding at the beginning of text fields. It's the same problem I fought when positioning the icon. I don't think there is a magic short solution to all this, but there are ways to make the problem more manageable. So first, how is the footer used on this wiki, only for image+desciption, or sometimes for (left-aligned) text only too? Next point to tackle, it would make things easier if I could write the global css instead of plastering inline style all over. Currently the relevant css resides at fallout-infoboxes.wikia, perhaps I can get editinterface rights there. If not, we could perhaps move the css to some other testwiki too. Third, I tried to propose here some small changes to PIs that would help to solve all this in a much cleaner way, let's see if something comes out of it. With the current PI, targeting the footer with global css is a headache. Oh, and not direclty related, was it a concious decision to layout the ammuntion infobox horizontally with the update? It just strikes me as a bit inconsistent with all the other infoboxes layed out vertically. --Alfwyn (talk) 00:50, January 16, 2016 (UTC)
We use the footer to place an image in it, and sometimes add a description below it using <br />[description]. Try getting rights on the fallout-infoboxes wikia, otherwise a testwiki would be http://du-fallout.wikia.com/, that is User:Digital Utopia's testwiki for the Fallout wiki. He's also a technically skilled user. he would give you admin rights there, I'm pretty sure of it. Advantage would be it has all (I think) templates, scripts, etc. we use here. Horizontal layout was not our choice, it was done by Czechout before we knew it. Would you be able to make it vertical again? Jspoel Speech Jspoel 01:33, January 16, 2016 (UTC)

Just a vertical layout is no problem: example. But getting value/weight display nicely in one row like before would be a major complication. Related is the issue of converting {{Infobox weapon gamebryo}}, it makes extensive use of alternate layout of cells. And another thing, many templates start to split the value once another game is added (see Buttercup toy). I think that should only happen if at least one game has a different value specified - thoughts? --Alfwyn (talk) 11:31, January 19, 2016 (UTC)

West Roxbury station /Milton Parking Garage[]

Hey Alfwyn. Hope the day finds you well. I'm just dropping a note to let you know that I created a page for the Milton parking garage where Hot Rodder #3 is actually located. I thought it would help cut down on the confusion between West Roxbury station and the garage, as most of the Roxbury page was actually describing the garage and not the actual station. Both now have their own pages along with respective details and loot for each.StormRider71 (talk)18:09, January 19, 2016 (UTC)

Yeah, was just a bit confused at first because the Hot Rodder page still described West Roxbury station as location - but I changed it meanwhile. --Alfwyn (talk) 18:17, January 19, 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for catching that. I totally forgot about changing the hot rodder page when i did the other stuff. Good looking out! --StormRider71 (talk) 07:37, January 20, 2016 (UTC)

Game data[]

Have just started looking into the Fallout4.esm file format, and have put a few notes here. Other than what's on UESP, do you happen to know of any other docs or source code relating to the Fallout 4 data files? -- Aya42 (talk) 22:07, January 19, 2016 (UTC)

There is FO4edit (and the source on github). The basic things stayed the same since Skyrim, and even a good measure of the records/fields stayed the same. But there are several differences on that level, and FO4edit does get a few of them wrong - well, I use some Nexusmod version, but didn't try to update it regularily or to compile something more up to date from github.
Ah. I think I've looked at the TES5Edit code before, which I presume is written using Borland Delphi, or whatever they call it these days. I had hoped it would be of more use, back when I was writing a savegame reader/writer for Skyrim, but the attribute encodings in the savegame changeform records aren't helpfully tagged like they are in the ESM, so was a complete pain to decode. I'll take a look to see what's changed since Fallout's release.
But quite a bit from the documentation on UESP still applies here. I do my own dump too (slightly modified from an earlier TES version), that is more or less a structured hexdump, mainly so I can search the data in different ways. --Alfwyn (talk) 01:18, January 20, 2016 (UTC)
Yeah. Given the similarity, I didn't think it was worth trying to duplicate anything as detailed as the UESP docs, at least for the record types the two games have in common, so I'll probably just stick to listing the differences as I come across them. If you've discovered any other file format differences from the Skyrim one, feel free to add them to that page. Was considering moving it elsewhere, but not sure if it belongs on here, and Vault-Tec Labs seems to have become a 'ghost town'. Aya42 (talk) 13:56, January 20, 2016 (UTC)
There can be found something for early Fallout here too, so maybe some page plus a few subpages would do. But probably best to just collect stuff for now. Let's see if I can put it in some usable format, it all ranges from rather trivial to quite conjectural. --Alfwyn (talk) 14:05, January 20, 2016 (UTC)

I'm too much of a noob to this wiki to figure out how useful the image size parameter is or isn't. Sorry. It seems though the wiki's currently doing fine without it. Mazn (talk) 17:33, January 20, 2016 (UTC)

Modules and wanted pages[]

That's definitely a bug. You should post this to w:Special:Contact/bug if you haven't already done so. I don't think we should do anything else. The ball is in Wikia's court. Mazn (talk) 17:41, January 20, 2016 (UTC)

It may be a bug but it's also a known issue. Maybe we should not get our hopes up for Wikia to fix this :( Mazn (talk) 06:05, January 21, 2016 (UTC)
Now that I think about it... maybe it has its advantages. You could add categories to modules e.g. Or put a {{delete}} on modules that are no longer needed. Mazn (talk) 09:25, January 21, 2016 (UTC)

Name parameter in Perk infobox[]

We have another little mystery. The name parameter doesn't work on perk pages. On other converted pages it works, so there must be a solution. Can you solve it? Jspoel Speech Jspoel 01:10, January 21, 2016 (UTC)

On quest pages, image desc places the text next to the image, see Holly_(quest). Should be below it. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 01:14, January 21, 2016 (UTC)
Perks is unusual in that the supertitle is static. Was it/should the word "Perk" be that large? Quest page description would be misplaced on images that don't fill the whole width, fixed now, the other infoboxes all have the linebreak. --Alfwyn (talk) 01:29, January 21, 2016 (UTC)
The word Perk is too large yes. Can you make it smaller? Jspoel Speech Jspoel 01:40, January 21, 2016 (UTC)

Infobox space[]

It is possible to create a little bit of breathing space below and above the image if it's very small? Those kind of images now look their true size, but they're tight against the edges. Maybe some 35px or so, then it will be just below the icon image at the rop right screen. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 18:55, January 21, 2016 (UTC)

{{Infobox weapon}} has now a minimum height for the cell around the image - see Throwing knife (Fallout). Unfortunately that solution is incompatible with the one that removed the two pixle left padding. Two pixle padding are invisible for images with transparent background like we have for FO1/FO2/FOS weapons. The same should be true for almost all item/consumable images, the two other infoboxes we have small images for and could need a minimum height. But this all should have a cleaner solution by simply not inheriting unwanted css. Just not sure how to go about it, even with changing global css (I see no good way to target specific elements with portable infoboxes, just things like the first element in the first group after the title and hope it is the image - but what if there isn't one?).
Ah well, this all got to long: If we can live with two pixle left padding for item/consumable, those can be changed accordingly of course. Meanwhile I'll try to think about something better for the future. --Alfwyn (talk) 21:45, January 21, 2016 (UTC)
You can leave the item and consumable template as they were for now then, I prefer the tight space to the 2px padding error. It doesn't look good. Thanks for your efforts again! Jspoel Speech Jspoel 21:56, January 21, 2016 (UTC)

Images[]

Thanks for reverting those nasty uploads. In few weeks you should apply for admin, then you can block and delete images/revisions yourself. I hope that's the plan. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 17:45, January 22, 2016 (UTC)

Icons[]

Can you adjust {{Infobox armor gamebryo}} so the main image is placed below the icon at the right top, instead off on the same line? For example, see Alien disintegrator. 18:56, January 23, 2016 (UTC)Jspoel Speech Jspoel

Yeah, not hard if it is on a per-Infobox basis. I see the old one allowed to do this on a per-use basis. This was apparently what was used for {{Infobox weapon}} too. Btw., what was the reason to make the icon smaller there? I have difficulty to make the details out now (see Throwing knife (Fallout)). --Alfwyn (talk) 20:29, January 23, 2016 (UTC)
I downsized it from 35 to 30 px because the infobox had the icon box progammed 30 by 30px and I uploaded all the icons in that format. If you program it larger, the icons aren't true size anymore.
Another thing, can you reinstate the icons for the characters? The Fallout Tactics recruits have rank logos in the top right corner and you can't see those right now. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 18:31, January 25, 2016 (UTC)
They have icons again. As usual, if someone used [[File: for the image, it needs fixing now, but that should only appear for FO4. --Alfwyn (talk) 19:05, January 25, 2016 (UTC)

Vases[]

It's on purpose I left it empty; I'm having a texture error there. The new teal rounded vase.png has the colors of the new willow rounded vase.png, that's why I moved it for now. You give it a try. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 18:10, January 24, 2016 (UTC)

Hm, look the same to me, but the MODL data isn't identical - so perhaps the error is on the graphic file level. But it looks to me that the new teal vases are cut content, except one in vault 81. They appear in the QA chest, the list lootItemsCommon that is only used by the DFOB RarityListCommon_DO (has no references, but I don't understand the purpose for this) and finally by another list CA_JunkItems which in turn is only used by the quest CA_LootJunk which seems to check for picking up certain items for companion affinity purposes (but can't read the quest script). --Alfwyn (talk) 18:56, January 24, 2016 (UTC)

Balistic weave[]

Hey. Do you know if there is new armor and clothing infobox in the works? I ask because including a field to show if an item can have Balistic weave or not would be useful, but J said not to add it in the existing infobox. --Wulfharth (talk) 18:59, January 24, 2016 (UTC)

Hm, not sure it will need a new infobox. The weapon infobox was another case, weapon gamebryo was a monster with all the calculations made there. As far as I can see, FO4 would need adding fields for energy damage and radiation damage resistance, plus the ballistic weave - that should fit nicely into {{Infobox armor gamebryo}} without overcomplicating it. So long as we don't want to include modding info into it, I think the old will do. --Alfwyn (talk) 19:17, January 24, 2016 (UTC)
See, I already tried adding that as seen here: http://fallout.wikia.com/index.php?title=Template%3AInfobox_armor_gamebryo&diff=2459169&oldid=2459166 - But my edit was reverted? --Wulfharth (talk) 19:22, January 24, 2016 (UTC)
If you think you can make it work, you can adjust the gamebryo armor infobox to Fallout 4, including energy, radiation damage and ballistic weave. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 00:14, January 25, 2016 (UTC)
Did give the energy and radiation resistance a try, if we use that we can just add an optional ballistic weave field too, I guess. --Alfwyn (talk) 02:30, February 11, 2016 (UTC)

Cache flush?[]

I'm trying to find all pages linking to Shattered, but even after removing the link on the quests navbox, all pages which include that template are still showing up in the list. Is there some way to flush whatever is caching those old page links? Aya42 (talk) 20:06, January 24, 2016 (UTC)

That is just the queue changing all the pages including the template. It will be updated after a while. --Alfwyn (talk) 20:08, January 24, 2016 (UTC)
Yeah. I noticed on previous occasions it sorts itself out after a while, but was wondering if there was a way to speed up the process. Doesn't really matter - I can sort it out later. Cheers. Aya42 (talk) 20:16, January 24, 2016 (UTC)

Great work![]

Wanted to give you a heads-up for all the great continued work you've been doing here. I really appreciate it! - Greets Peace'n Hugs (talk) (blog) 15:33, January 25, 2016 (UTC)

Untitled[]

I am heavily editing the article to make it complete sorry. I did not know there were such strict capitalization polices and was trying to make it match the in game title (Railroad Armored Coat) not (Railroad armored coat). --Gamer1what (talk) 02:06, January 27, 2016 (UTC)

Voice actors[]

We have a slight problem with voice actor pages. The link in the infobox for voice actor directs to the voice actors page, but voice actress doesn't have a link. Are you able to fix that? Jspoel Speech Jspoel 14:29, January 27, 2016 (UTC)

Great. You've solved it. I should have known how to do that myself as a bc right?... Oh well. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 14:40, January 27, 2016 (UTC)

Sanctuary Hills - Grenade reference readded[]

Just to let you know I added back the reference to grenades found near the exit bridge of Sanctuary as these are scripted to spawn in the game files (00022DBB). Corrected the entry as it is a Trash can and not a mailbox which may have been the confusion trash. Also tidied and added links to the Fallout 3 items referenced in the original post (not mine). I find two each time I tested but referred to 'some; as it may be a random number. --Lunamoonraker (talk) 21:04, January 29, 2016 (UTC)

Oh, nice find - I just checked the mailboxes there. That really looks like a plan by the developers, and it should be two, the script invocation reads more or less "defaultadditemonload(ItemToAdd=000eebed, count=2)". --Alfwyn (talk) 21:18, January 29, 2016 (UTC)
And a dead raider (0009813f) there seems to get 21 .38 round added per script, what is that about? --Alfwyn (talk) 21:40, January 29, 2016 (UTC)

Dirty water[]

Fair enough! Edited version looks good. :-) Cattlesquat (talk) 20:37, January 31, 2016 (UTC)

Infobox encounter[]

Can you take a look at the {{Infobox encounter}}? The icon placement isn't as it's supposed to be. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 22:49, February 1, 2016 (UTC)

Thanks, looks a lot better now. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 23:45, February 1, 2016 (UTC)

Nuka Cola truck[]

sorry

No problem. It was in the promo video, but doesn't appear in the pre-War house of the released game anymore. --Alfwyn (talk) 22:58, February 3, 2016 (UTC)

sorry

Well, turns out you weren't wrong, just the name is different. And I think I'm done with those pages for a while now. --Alfwyn (talk) 23:41, February 3, 2016 (UTC)

thanks

Nuka Cola truck[]

The toy truck IS the Nuka Cola truck. It's just not called that anymore. Ssskoopa (talk) 00:54, February 4, 2016 (UTC)

Request[]

Am in the process of refactoring my ESM parser. When you get a chance, can you let me know what the four bytes in the TES4.INTV field are in your copy of Fallout4.esm? Aya42 (talk) 19:37, February 8, 2016 (UTC)

0x16 0x65 0x03 0x00, or 222486 as little endian decimal. Stayed the same through the two esm updates I've noticed. --Alfwyn (talk) 22:55, February 8, 2016 (UTC)
Meh. Thought that might've been where the version number was encoded. Reversing the order makes the last two 101, 22, which I thought might've been 1.1.22. Guess it must be in the binary. Aya42 (talk) 23:04, February 8, 2016 (UTC)
Yep, in the exe there's a string "1.3.47.0" for the PC version. Unfortunately there seems to be no nice version number to track esm changes. --Alfwyn (talk) 23:11, February 8, 2016 (UTC)
Ah. I was looking for 1.0.something, but it turns out the first PC version was 1.1.29, hence no need for the 1.1.22 patch pushed out to the consoles on day one. Aya42 (talk) 23:40, February 8, 2016 (UTC)

Need help with the Verify tag[]

I just added a bug, and I couldn't find how to use the verify tag - I looked at the help pages. I had a "verify" help box on the right, but my browser (Chrome) would not scroll down farther and it was cut-off - I don't even know if it would help. My verify tag has no date, I don't know how to put it there. HalloweenWeed (talk) 18:02, February 9, 2016 (UTC)

I got it, but I did something that caused an error and then fixed it, and that is the only way I know to use the verify tag with a date. HalloweenWeed (talk) 18:08, February 9, 2016 (UTC)
The error may have been an edit conflict caused by me reverting your changes to Power armor (Fallout 4). You just need to add in {{verify|~~~~~|type=bug}} and the wiki will automatically replace the ~~~~~ with the current date and time. It's documented on the template page. Aya42 (talk) 18:19, February 9, 2016 (UTC)

Daym, I was sure I found an undocumented bug. "Multiselect" feature, huh (according to Aya42)? It sure seemed like a bug. Oh well, live and learn. HalloweenWeed (talk) 19:32, February 9, 2016 (UTC)

Modules[]

Ok, thanks. Say, you should definitely go for admin. I kinda expected an application for it a week ago already... Jspoel Speech Jspoel 14:58, February 19, 2016 (UTC)

Collapsible content[]

Have had a go at fixing Template:Collapsible content for monobook, which seems to have worked, but would appreciate a second opinion, i.e. if you can think of any cases where it might fail. Also, have only tested on latest Firefox, so if you have another browser, would be useful to know if it works. Aya42 (talk) 22:37, February 21, 2016 (UTC)

Looks good to me. Monobook is generally a bit neglected, and would need some fixes on the global level, but cc not working properly was one of the more serious things. --Alfwyn (talk) 09:44, February 22, 2016 (UTC)
Ideally, it needed fixing in the CSS or JS, but there doesn't seem to be any way to edit those. The main issue I have with the Wikia skin is that its seemingly fixed width of ~700px (which goes down to ~440px for content which flows to the left of infoboxes, etc.) doesn't work very well with tables which have more than a few columns. The ones on the main quests page look particularly bad on the Wikia skin. Aya42 (talk) 12:33, February 22, 2016 (UTC)
Hm, putting the content at index -1 made links in it unaccessible. Changed it back for now, but I will take a closer look at the problem. --Alfwyn (talk) 13:45, March 12, 2016 (UTC)
Wikia skin seems to simply put all links at z-index 1. Anyway, a personal solution can be found at User:Alfwyn/monobook.css‎‎ - maybe that should target all links like the wikia skin does? Adding the style to the hide/show texts should work too, just trying to understand why it is coded as {{#if:{{{hide|}}}|{{{hide}}}|Hide}} instead of simply {{{hide|Hide}}} at the moment. --Alfwyn (talk) 14:20, March 12, 2016 (UTC)

( Bah. So frustrating that I can't just change the CSS, but it seems to be loaded from some shared version used across all all wikia sites. It's complexified by the fact the More/Less 'link' is added after page load by some JavaScript. I'll have a play to see if I can get something which works. Just to clarify, if I create a user subpage called monobook.css, that CSS will be included when using the monobook skin? Aya42 (talk) 15:22, March 12, 2016 (UTC)

Exactly, so for me the issue is fixed at the moment. --Alfwyn (talk) 15:57, March 12, 2016 (UTC)

Gendalv[]

Gendalv shouldn't be editing other people's conversations in "talk" pages. HalloweenWeed (talk) 18:00, February 26, 2016 (UTC)

Looks to me he just edits his own posts signed with date but without name. --Alfwyn (talk) 22:09, February 26, 2016 (UTC)

Regarding sources[]

I got the information that I placed in the timeline from the Switchboard terminals, accessed during the Tradecraft quest. Its a treasure trove of information if the reader knows military acronyms, I've pasted the "DEFCON Status: 2077" portion below:

281632RJAN77 ANCHORAGE ALL CLEAR **DEFCON 3**

230003ROCT77 COMPACFLT REPORTS 3 USOS OFF CALIF COAST, JCS ADVISE

230337ROCT77 USAF HAS EYES ON SQUADRON OF AIRPLANES (POSS. CHINESE) AT HIGH ALTITUDE OFF BERING STRAIGHT

230913ROCT77 IONDS REPORTS 4 PROBABLE LAUNCHES **DEFCON 2**

230917ROCT77 NORAD CONFIRMS BIRDS IN AIR **DEFCON 1**

230926ROCT77 AUTHENTICATED ORDER -- RESPONSE SCENARIO MX-CN91 -- REPEAT MX-CN91

230942ROCT77 PENNSYLVANIA, NEW YORK -- CONFIRM STRIKE

230947ROCT77 OFFLINE - OFFLINE - OFFLINE

The President is the only one with full authority to order a retaliation protocol, in this case MX-CN91, the same protocol that can be found in Fort Constantine in Fallout 3. The system going offline at 9:47 is consistent with a nuclear strike. DC was hit at the same time, thus all the clocks there are stuck at 9:47am, same as Boston (they're in the same Eastern time zone). Hope this helps. I'll add in the source on the timeline as well. The Sentinel (talk) 20:59, February 29, 2016 (UTC)

POTUS at the time wasn't incapacitated, the entire cabinet had moved to the Oil Rig in January 2077. VPOTUS as well, in fact the White House was essentially operating with non-essential staff, to the point that newspapers were questioning where the government had gone. The Oil Rig still communicated with USCENTCOM and NORAD, and essentially became the US capital until the war. POTUS would be fully able to enact Protocol MX-CN91 once nuclear launches were confirmed. Boston itself wasn't hit with a strike yes, the area southwest of the city (the area near Natick, the intended target was likely Sentinel Site Prescott but the missile hit short) was hit by an SLBM from the Yangtze (according to Zao, who states that he fired his payload of missiles, save for three). You are right though, the EMP would have knocked out local power, and thus the Switchboard lost operational signal at 9:47am, at least its monitoring uplink did. The Sentinel (talk) 23:10, February 29, 2016 (UTC)

Fusion core[]

When I go into an area and collect items that repawn such as ammo I always write down what came in the box when the game first came out. Just to get an idea of where some stuff is. The fusion core "fixed in ammo box" discussion came up before which is not true, the ammo boxes are always random. The amount changes with the perk rank. I tossed all of my notes on that because the fusion cores are not fixed in the ammo boxes. i do remember the amounts changing in my playthroughs as the perk increases. If I remember you have to have lvl 3 before the fc's increase or maybe that's when i noticed the change. I was going to start my 3rd playthrough but skyrim went on sale and that's where I'm at. Did the release the editor yet?--Kingclyde (talk) 22:05, March 1, 2016 (UTC)

Notable content template[]

I just discovered a problem with our {{Notable content}} template. If there are more than 5 quotes, the links in it don't work anymore. Do you know why? (see Caesar). Jspoel Speech Jspoel 13:28, March 12, 2016 (UTC)

Fixed for now, at the cost of not working for the monobook skin at all. --Alfwyn (talk) 14:21, March 12, 2016 (UTC)
Thanks. I'll take the error on the monobook, hardly anyone is using that anymore. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 18:55, March 12, 2016 (UTC)

Thank you for the corrections ![]

Hey pal, thank you for correcting my typos on the French Wiki, I tend to post pages directly after I've translate them, and I usually don't pay further attention after the long work, so keep it up ! Metal Lanius

Automatron cell ids[]

Alfwyn, can you add the Automatron cell ids to the Fallout 4 cell ID page? There is some content added, but there is lots more from what I can see in FO4edit. Also, I'm having errors on the Name column and for example book and note content. Instead of a proper names I 'm getting <Error: No strings file for lstring ID >. Is there is fix for this you know of? Jspoel Speech Jspoel 22:51, March 24, 2016 (UTC)

Want advice regarding main quest line choices/flow[]

I want advice from somebody that knows a bit about the main quest line, particularly in keeping all three factions alive when finishing the main quest. A week ago I was clearing out the tunnels under the Boston airport, in power armor with targeting HUD, when I got this quest started: Duty or Dishonor - step: Kill Initiate Clarke. Well Clark wasn't present down there, and the quest marker pointed to a point topside, just a spot on the concrete. AFAIK I have never killed Clarke. I did a quick look around the area, and an exhaustive search in the tunnels beneath the airport, and Clarke was nowhere to be found. I think the wiki stated that he wouldn't spawn until I completed another quest first.

I want to do the choices where I keep all three factions alive, alienating Shaun and therefore the Institute as well. So the question is, how will the quest "Kill Initiate Clarke" change this, if at all? Should I reset that quest (with the console command)? I'm afraid that if I don't, it may mess up my choices to keep all three factions alive. Lv.82 BTW. Currently I just got the "Glowing Sea" quest, just after completing "Dangerous Minds." I came out the roof door and seen the Prydwen fly over. I have completed all the Railroad quests that I could.

I would appreciate any advice you have. Thank you. HalloweenWeed (talk) 16:24, April 11, 2016 (UTC)

Merry Christmas and (a bit too early to wish it already, but I'll do it already anyway) a Happy New Year![]

I would like to use the Christmas/New Year-wishes-tradition, to thank those around me who kept this wikia and daily life more fun for me during the past year. - Greets Peace'n Hugs (talk) (blog) 02:29, December 24, 2016 (UTC)

Call to Action[]

There have been quite a few sweeping changes to the wiki lately, and now that the Unified Community Platform has come to fruition here, it's more important than ever for our leadership to get together and inspire innovative changes for the next generation of wiki editors/readers.

As someone who is somewhat inactive myself, I understand how life gets in the way, and I'll fully understand if many of you are unable to commit, but I'd still like to try my best to appeal to you all in getting involved in a few of our currently active projects; especially so since rights-users participating in our discussions/votes are at an all-time low, and many internal decisions are having to be made between a select few users, which is bad for building consensus on important matters.

As such, I would like to ask for you all to look into two of our most important projects right now, as it would mean a lot to me and the wiki if as many people as possible got directly involved in helping shape our future:

  1. The Vault Academy is a program for the training and acclimation of new and even veteran users, training them on how to get involved in the various facets of the wiki, as well as helping them build bonds with their fellow users. The program has kicked off in a big way, and we are in desperate need of more rights-users to sign on as mentors, as we're having to share multiple mentees between each mentor. If you're looking to leave your mark on the wiki, then signing onto TVA program will be your way of doing so.
  2. As a minor update, we now have a new plagiarism point of contact. Should you suspect plagiarized content is at play, please get into point with the user FDekker who will be the initial handler of all such cases going forward.
  3. We have an upcoming meeting of the minds coming up on the 20th of this month, and we need people to come forth and pitch their ideas for adapting to the recent UCP changes, and to possibly adopt some of the ideas that our new datamining friends have been pitching to us.

Thanks for your consideration, and I do hope to hear back from you all! Even if it is just some of you dropping by to check the place out and say a quick hello. 寧靜 Fox 14:12, 13 November 2020 (UTC)
