Dunwich[]

Arent they the same company? (Seems unlikely to have two companies of the same name and have them BOTH interested in the Occult. TimeoinSay G'DayView my work 13:35, January 22, 2016 (UTC)

The change was to clarify the distinction between the company Dunwich Borers LLC and the location Dunwich Borers. I only use the word "presumed" since there's no reference to the phrase "Dunwich Borers LLC" anywhere in the Fallout 4 game data, which makes it slightly speculative, and to be consistent with the sentence "Before the war, it is presumed the site was owned by Dunwich Borers LLC, a company that manufactured rock drills for tunneling and drilling." from the Dunwich Borers page.
The only time the abbreviation 'LLC' is used in Fallout 4 is in, what looks like, a dialog line, "Cambridge Polymer Labs, LLC had several active military contracts. Specializing in robotics." Aya42 (talk) 13:59, January 22, 2016 (UTC)

didn't address specific issue[]

Thanks for responding to my inquiry. However, you did not address the issue I specified.

I didn't say a user could not PURCHASE a weapon beyond their perk status. I said I was unable to remove a mod from a gun that I would not be able to CRAFT, and attach to another gun.

What you'll have to do is remove a mod that you know you cannot craft based on perk status and attempt to attach it to another gun.

Ryebread5if (talk) 18:52, January 26, 2016 (UTC)

You can do that too. Perk rank only affects what mods you can craft, but you can attach any mod you have in your inventory, and detach any mod already attached to a weapon or armor piece, at level 1. There's already a note to that effect at the bottom of the Gun Nut page. Aya42 (talk) 19:12, January 26, 2016 (UTC)
Ok. Thanks. I guess I just haven't figured out how to do it.
Ryebread5if (talk) 19:18, January 26, 2016 (UTC)
Oh. In case it's not clear, the only way to remove a mod from a weapon is to craft (or attach) a different mod for the same 'slot', then the previously attached mod will be put in your inventory. It's possible that you may have a weapon for which no mods are craftable at your perk level. What's the weapon you're trying to mod, and your current Gun Nut rank? Aya42 (talk) 19:29, January 26, 2016 (UTC)
Never mind. I've replied here. Aya42 (talk) 19:43, January 26, 2016 (UTC)

Details[]

I found a pipe gun with a Long Night Vision Scope. I successfully removed it (by crafting and equipping no scope) and the mod is now in my inventory. I attempted to put it on another pipe gun on which I had already crafted and equipped a Short Night Vision Scope. I have both Gun Nut and Science at Lvl 1. But in the Weapons workstation the option for the Long Night Vision Scope is grayed out (not available), and when I try to click on it I get the error message that my perk level isn't high enough (I forgot which perk needed to be higher).

I'm not playing right now so I'll check my details tonight.

Thanks, Ryebread5if (talk) 19:48, January 26, 2016 (UTC)

Hole in the Wall[]

Mostly strategy was reverted. If you feel parts are missing now, add them and/or talk it over with Paladin. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 20:02, January 26, 2016 (UTC)

You were right[]

You were right. Here's the exact distinction the game makes:

"Pipe Gun" mods can be used on Pipe Pistols and Pipe *Non-Bolt Action* Rifles.

"Pipe Gun" mods cannot be used on Pipe Bolt Action Rifles.

I successfully placed the mod on a pipe pistol and a pipe non-bolt action rifle.

That's confusing. Especially because a standard and bolt action rifle are identical in every aspect except in caliber of ammo and how a round is chambered. Maybe that's the distinction the game is trying to make? Wow.

Thanks again for helping me figure this out. And feel free to delete any errors I may have published on any of the pages (I don't think I did anything except add the verification).

Maybe you could add this new info somewhere on this wiki? I know Pipe weapons are elementary and probably not used very much as a user progresses through the game but for others like me this info would have been helpful.

Ah. Looks like that clicking on that pic only shows a popup on the Wikia skin - I use the Monobook one. Seems like it's just showing a list of recently uploaded images or something. Not sure really, but I don't think it matters. Aya42 (talk) 16:59, April 6, 2016 (UTC)

Want advice regarding main quest line choices/flow[]

I want advice from somebody that knows a bit about the main quest line, particularly in keeping all three factions alive when finishing the main quest. A week ago I was clearing out the tunnels under the Boston airport, in power armor with targeting HUD, when I got this quest started: Duty or Dishonor - step: Kill Initiate Clarke. Well Clark wasn't present down there, and the quest marker pointed to a point topside, just a spot on the concrete. AFAIK I have never killed Clarke. I did a quick look around the area, and an exhaustive search in the tunnels beneath the airport, and Clarke was nowhere to be found. I think the wiki stated that he wouldn't spawn until I completed another quest first.

I want to do the choices where I keep all three factions alive, alienating Shaun and therefore the Institute as well. So the question is, how will the quest "Kill Initiate Clarke" change this, if at all? Should I reset that quest (with the console command)? I'm afraid that if I don't, it may mess up my choices to keep all three factions alive. Lv.82 BTW. Currently I just got the "Glowing Sea" quest, just after completing "Dangerous Minds." I came out the roof door and seen the Prydwen fly over. I have completed all the Railroad quests that I could.

I would appreciate any advice you have. Thank you. HalloweenWeed (talk) 16:21, April 11, 2016 (UTC)

Regarding Duty or Dishonor, the quest usually begins by talking to Kells, although it's possible by entering the Boston Airport ruins early wearing the targeting HUD, it's made some of the final set of ghouls hostile, jumping straight to quest stage 280 then 380. Unless you want to revert to a save before entering the ruins, it's probably something that can only be fixed with console commands.
Regarding the overall goal of keeping three factions friendly, this quest will have no impact on your relationship with the Brotherhood. When the quest plays through normally, they don't really care whether you kill Clarke or spare him. There's also some notes here which might be worth a read. Aya42 (talk) 22:09, April 11, 2016 (UTC)

Perspective[]

Hello, I figured that you might have time to answer a question. Do you know if "detailed walkthrough" sections on quest pages are an exception to not writing in third-person? As far as the editing guidelines go, the only exceptions are bugs, quotes and transcripts, yet most of these sections in quest articles are written in second-person, some with a mixture of both perspectives. It's not just FO4, it's 3 and New Vegas, which has got me thinking I shouldn't bother with revising them. JMA4269 (talk) 22:25, April 20, 2016 (UTC)

Pass. Never really bothered me that much, to be honest. Aya42 (talk) 20:54, April 21, 2016 (UTC)

I can only assume you're referring to this edit in which I changed the formatting so that all of your text is readable, and not cropped at the right margin as it was on your last edit. By indenting your paragraphs with leading whitespace, the wiki interprets it as pre-formatted text. I actually changed it because it was quite interesting, and I wanted to read it all. It's unfortunate that the wiki's built-in diff tool doesn't make it particularly clear, but all the original text is still there. If you prefer the original formatting, then feel free to revert my edit. Aya42 (talk) 18:16, May 4, 2016 (UTC)

Broadsider[]

In this revision someone removed the statement that the Broadsider cannot be equipped by companions, which you subsequently reverted in this revision. I just tried it out in the game, and Piper was able to equip the Broadsider (although I used console commands to spawn the Broadsider). Did you perform the revert solely because the deletion was unexplained or were you unable to get your companion to equip the weapon?
- FDekker talk 19:02, January 24, 2018 (UTC)

On the basis of it being a deletion by an IP address with no previous edits and no edit summary, which tends to increase the probability of it being (perhaps unintentional) vandalism. However, I just quickly ran through the Last Voyage mission to get the Broadsider (in case it was somehow different to one spawned via console), and Piper could equip it just fine, so I've reverted my revert. Good point, however it would then belong on the Jezebel page as it mostly relates to her permanent death. —Preceding unsigned comment added by DavidAELevy (talkcontribs) 20:38, January 24, 2018 (UTC)‎. Please sign your posts with ~~~~!

The note as written on that page is worded as to apply to all robots, not just Jezebel. If you think that Jezebel is significant enough to warrant a similar note on her page, then add one. Aya42 (talk) 21:18, January 24, 2018 (UTC)
I guess that didn't work. ;-)
To clarify, the wiki pages are supposed to document intended game behavior. If your goal is to share a console command for making Jezebel essential, you'd either have to argue that her losing essential status is a bug, in which case you can add it to the bugs section for Jezebel, or accept that the console command is an exploit, and add it to the exploits page. Cooking Oil[]

Thanks, I'll double check some of the places to make sure I got them all, I noticed they did add a couple of spots with the CC add on as well, mostly just Slocum's locations will have oil now, if I was on PC I wouldn't have such an issue with it, know I used most of them earlier on in the game while crafting on my main character. Tweezers[]

If you type "Tweez" in the search bar you already have a direct link to the Fallout 4 tweezer and can choose it there (too minor for disambiguation). Oh, you're using monobook. Well, yes, that's an old skin appearantly not supporting more than 1 search result. I agree with you that screenwidth of the current Wikia skin is too small (and the font too large). I'm using a css that solves it more or less, maybe try it out yourself: User:Jspoelstra/wikia.css, (from /* skins/... onwards). Before you do that, first set your Layout to Wikia again in Preferences. I can explain some of your examples to be there, and some can go. The Day Tripper, Mass Fusion and Vault 81 fors are refering to something of the same game. Antibiotics and Hadrian don't need it. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 20:05, February 13, 2018 (UTC)

Acadia[]

Hello, quick question about the Acadia location. I asked this question in Discord before work but no one replied. But, you re-added a faction tag for the location that BOS was optional, but I couldn't find somewhere that mentions that they occupy the site after Search and Destroy. I'm wondering if you happen to know, because I didn't destroy them in my playthrough, thanks for your time. Xa3 (talk) 18:29, February 14, 2018 (UTC)

I just re-added the info. I didn't check if it was true, but it sounded plausible enough. Unfortunately, I'm not really in a position to test it either. Aya42 (talk) 18:56, February 14, 2018 (UTC)

I think all patrollers already know Smaily's edits are ok, and just leave the exclamation marks as they are. You're probably the only one marking his as patrolled. Better to mark edits as patrolled from new users. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 12:59, February 17, 2018 (UTC)

Bicentennial news[]

I thought I remembered seeing the naming someone where and it is on the Treasures inventory. I've added the alt name back with the reference now. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 18:18, February 21, 2018 (UTC)

Is it appropriate to override the actual object name in this case? There are several other cases where the name on the holotape doesn't match the item name, e.g. "Ornamental Vase" vs. "Dawnshire Vase", "Jamaica Plain Youth Baseball Glove" vs. "Youth League glove". It's also unclear as to which of the "folded" or "delivered" paper is the one referred to on the holotape. FWIW, the "folded" one (DN070_Newspaper01) is unique, but the "delivered" one (DN070_Newspaper) is also found in Suffolk County charter school. Aya42 (talk) 18:35, February 21, 2018 (UTC)
That is certainly some food for thought. I've been flicking back and forth from between the inventory and the town hall article for a little while now. Do we state them as they are, so as not to confuse, or do we state them as intended with a note at the bottom of the loot list to reflect that the items are named in the game differently? I'm inclinded to go with intention over reality here, just to demonstrate what from the list is here... However that might mean extending the list further. As for which one is which with the newspapers, it is probably the other way around as the other is unique; both links go to the same article though. Let me think on it a little more. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 19:32, February 21, 2018 (UTC)
Personally, I think it's less confusing to have the link text match the name of the linked page, although you could link the items on the Treasures inventory page to the relevant pages as well, which would avoid the need to extend the notable loot section to include the non-notable items. Aya42 (talk) 20:06, February 21, 2018 (UTC)

I wasn't aware of that specific bug policy I admit. Regarding my edit on Hamilton's Hideaway[]

My edit on Hamilton's hideaway was totally justified as I stand by what I added as the comment of it being a place name and if that’s not a suitable reason how come Moonbeam Outdoor Cinema, Evergreen Mills, Big Town, Old Olney, Little Lamplight, Fort Independence, just to name a few, are all capitalised at the start. Granted some other places on this wiki are uncapitalised and hopefully I was hoping to get round to those and correct them but with you undoing my edit just adds to the inconsistency of it all. I don’t know if it has anything to do with me being a new account but I’ve being using this wiki since 2013 (stopped in 2015 as I had a period where I stopped playing games) on an old account so I know and understand the ins & outs of using this wiki.
Back on topic to further my case, you quoting Fallout_Wiki:Editing_guideline#Capitalizing in your edit and after reviewing that it mentions nothing about being against capitalising place names. You wouldn’t say ‘United states,’ ‘Grand canyon’ or to bring it closer to my home, you wouldn’t say ‘United kingdom.’ Still not convinced even this page; Fallout 3 locations has Hamilton's hideaway all capitalised along with many other locations.
Sir Handy (talk) 16:42, May 7, 2018 (UTC)

The editing guidelines are just a verbose way of saying that the standard rules of the english language apply, i.e. proper nouns are capitalized, and regular nouns are not. The in-game formatting is irrelevant.
Typically, legally-recognized towns and cities, like New York, are deemed to be proper nouns, whereas "Hamilton's hideaway" is merely a cave belonging to, or associated with, someone named Hamilton, so would be formatted no differently to "Hamilton's shed" or "Hamilton's left nostril".
Admittedly, some of the other examples you listed are debatable, but not really relevant to this single case. Aya42 (talk) 18:45, May 7, 2018 (UTC)
Okay so you mention about ‘proper nouns are capitalised’ yet you can’t capitalise the ‘e’ in English, so you’re contradicting yourself. The word English is derived from the proper noun England. Now I’m guessing you’re American as your spelling of ‘capitalised’ is with a ‘z’, which I can look past but if you are going to debate English with a Englishman and quote ‘standard rules’ for English grammar then follow those rules.
Yes ‘Hamilton Hideaway’ is merely a “cave” but it is a named cave, a cave is still a place, a place given a name and marked on a map, much like the place of New York, it is a hideaway for Hamilton. Now that shed, if it was a noteworthy shed marked on a map for the world to see, that “shed” would also be capitalised on the map. Example of some capitalisation; Hamilton’s Hideaway is a shed/cave. Lets go to that place called Hamilton’s Hideaway/Cave/Shed for some pints. Go onto Google Maps and look around your local area do you notice any named places on there with a lowercase letter for a new word? No? Much like the map in Fallout 3 they are places given names. Also to mention when going to a entry on this Wiki and greeted with a lowercase letter in the name it just looks sloppy and messy. If anything look at the example/father Wikipedia. Left nostril, now you’re being ridiculous.
They are not debatable as again they are place names marked on a, regardless of being fictional, map.
Sir Handy (talk) 23:06, May 7, 2018 (UTC)
Talk page messages are exempt from the editing guidelines. I'm not american, although american english spellings are preferred in article text. I didn't write those guidelines, nor do I necessarily agree with them, but editors are supposed to follow them regardless. If you feel the guidelines need to be changed, start a new thread in Forum:Wiki discussion. If you feel my edit was wrong, then ask another user to mediate the dispute, as per Fallout Wiki:User conduct guideline. I'd suggest one of the active users listed under "bureaucrats", "administrators" or "patrollers" on Fallout Wiki:Administrators and moderators. Aya42 (talk) 11:50, May 8, 2018 (UTC)
But are exempt from basic grammar? May I ask if your not American why would you then talk American English on your talk page where those guidelines don’t apply? You would always capitalise the ‘e’ in English as you only not referencing a language you’re also referencing a nationality of people as example; I’m from England, I am English and I speak English. I’m aware American English is preferred but asking a English person to basically misspell words is something I’m not keen on doing, I don’t even know all the American English differences as why would I, so I’ll do English (American English if I can) and then I’m happy for someone to come along after and make the language differences if it is truly an issue. If even you don’t necessarily agree with the guidelines then why aren’t you debating them?
Back to topic about why place names, in this instance Hamilton’s Hideaway, should be capitalised. I had to ask some people to make sure I wasn’t making a total fool out of myself and they agree with me on the matter, as hideaway is part of the name it should be referred to as Hamilton’s Hideaway not Hamilton’s hideaway. Yes it is a cave but even if it was called Hamilton’s Cave it would still be with that capital ‘C,’ and example of this in real life is a cave in Missouri called ‘Jacob’s Cave.’ An example I used and which is a correct example of this which is used in this Wiki is the Moonbeam Outdoor Cinema, (may I add which is also only a few yards away from Hamilton’s Hideaway and you can even see them from each other,) now you wouldn’t capitalise ‘outdoor’ on its own or in the middle of a sentence but when you label a place with that word included, it becomes capitalised as it is part of the name for the place/destination.
If that still hasn’t made my case then as you suggest, I will ask one of those active users.

Finally! Someone who actually shares my opinion about the importance of labelling composer names. just remember: The Admins will say anything to make you doubt yourself, or to manipulate you.

Thanks for fixing the grammar and punctuation on that article. I somehow totally missed it when I was redoing some stuff. Good catch and nice work! StormRider71 (talk) 21:28, May 21, 2018 (UTC)

Notable content[]

Hello, one of the requests that was made quite a while ago, was a review of the notable content template, to make it clearer there is hidden content. A new draft has now been created and is fully functional. Can you swing by, take a look and give you input as to suitability/changes? Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 07:08, May 23, 2018 (UTC)

Who is that in the pic[]

Sorry but I just gotta ask. Who is that woman in your profile pic? Seems like someone I have seen before. MatthewOne (talk) 06:30, June 20, 2018 (UTC)

Nukapedia/Fandom Talks[]

Hi,

Apologies for the impersonal nature of this message, as I'm relaying the same thing to admins and people who have previously expressed a view on featured video. Forgive me if I tell you some things you already know.

We have a call scheduled with Wikia this Friday. We need your input - and the input from as many others as possible. We're hoping to settle once and for all what our relationship is, if it can be salvaged, and what the future should be, as until we settle these featured video can't be settled.

Please, have a look at this forum and tell us what you think.

In addition to looking at our own future hosting option, we've also been in talks with other hosts. Included in these is Gamepedia/Curse. We have an ongoing dialogue with them, and if you have any questions about a possible unification to the vault, please do let me know and I'll relay any similar response we've had, and if your question is a first, I'll ask the question.

Thanks again. Remember, War never changes. Agent c (talk) 21:04, July 2, 2018 (UTC)

Weapons[]

Hi Aya,

I've been poking around at the weapons data in Fallout 4 and managed to get most of the calculations down to calculate the changes systematically. The big issues I'm having are with the accuracy and recoil (which there is very little information on how they are calculated) and range, which appears to be (minimum range + min range * modifier)/12 {still not perfect}. Do you have any way of accessing the data and confirming how they are calculated? Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 21:16, July 2, 2018 (UTC)

Our relationship with Wikia[]

Hi, as you may know we've been discussing our relationship with Wikia the past few months. Now, as a user rights holder I'd like you to participate in the vote here. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 13:32, August 17, 2018 (UTC)

You don't have to apologise for not having given me a suspiciously ticking backpack earlier! Who knows what's inside!? I'll hold you responsible if I die because of this thing!

Rights Request Changes Forum[]

Hi There,

I'm leaving this message to notify you of specific changes to certain sections of the rights request proposal forum on which you've voted. These changes affect the Chat Moderator, Administrator, and Retroactive clause sections and may or may not affect how you voted initially. Please review these changes carefully. I apologize for the impersonal nature of this talkpage message, and would like to state that I appreciate all opinions and feedback having been given, and look forward to the final results of the votes. ---bleep196- (talk) 16:40, May 20, 2019 (UTC)

I Need Your Assistance Aya[]

Hi Aya, it's me Warren. I have an issue with a Patroller member who keeps reverting my edits without providing correct information for the articles that required such information. Great Mara reverted my edits of Commonwealth Minutemen and Mama Murphy with Great Mara stating that "Mama Murphy isn't a member of Commonwealth Minutemen as there is no evidence." even though Mama Murphy's article page provides this information in the "Infobox character" along with actual gameplay in the video game which supports my evidence indefinitely. Mama Murphy has been a member of Commonwealth Minutemen while they were originally based at Quincy before moving further up north to leave the Gunners who are fighting back because of a former member leaving the faction in Quincy.

This information was gathered from the terminals at Quincy along with Preston providing dialogue at intervals throughout the game as well as notes and holotape recordings.

I would like to request that Great Mara be reminded of her duty and claiming a cite war on an innocent fanatic -- myself.

I urge you look into this matter and I request a formal apology from said individual for pushing me this far that I now have to reach out to you, interrupting your busy schedule as such.

Your attention is brought to the following articles (https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Commonwealth_Minutemen?oldid=3141532, https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Mama_Murphy?oldid=3141526, Mama Murphy, Commonwealth Minutemen, Fallout: Wasteland Warfare, Mama Murphy's note).

Gameplay does not show her being a member of the Minutemen. Her only affiliation being as a civilian under their escort. That is not membership. Furthermore, not only are you continuing to refer to me as a female after being corrected, you yourself apparently enjoy talking down to people in both your edit summaries and your little tangent Mass Effect quote. So if you actually think you’re owed anything. Keep on dreaming, pal. Great Mara (talk) 17:10, January 22, 2020 (UTC)

Capitalization[]

Hey, this is a super stupid thing for me to notice, but the Boston mayoral shelter should have the "M" and the "S" capitalized. I tried changing it, but apparently it doesn't recognize capitals. You don't have to change it, but it irked the hell out of me, so I figured I'd call attention to it.

Keep up the good work, and pass it on to your....cowokers?

Hello Aya42 can I have permission to remove the spam thing (bi the way I am not that versed in the wiki code) I have learned not to use the same thing spam but I wish that it would allow for more than 6 but I can understand reasons for that number. It feels embarrassing to have those things but anyway thanks for considering even a no is ok but anyway thank you, have a great day and have that great beer of yours(sorry if it is late)--Ross The Sam Melton (talk) 11:18, July 8, 2020 (UTC)

Call to Action[]

There have been quite a few sweeping changes to the wiki lately, and now that the Unified Community Platform has come to fruition here, it's more important than ever for our leadership to get together and inspire innovative changes for the next generation of wiki editors/readers.

As someone who is somewhat inactive myself, I understand how life gets in the way, and I'll fully understand if many of you are unable to commit, but I'd still like to try my best to appeal to you all in getting involved in a few of our currently active projects; especially so since rights-users participating in our discussions/votes are at an all-time low, and many internal decisions are having to be made between a select few users, which is bad for building consensus on important matters.

As such, I would like to ask for you all to look into two of our most important projects right now, as it would mean a lot to me and the wiki if as many people as possible got directly involved in helping shape our future:

  1. The Vault Academy is a program for the training and acclimation of new and even veteran users, training them on how to get involved in the various facets of the wiki, as well as helping them build bonds with their fellow users. The program has kicked off in a big way, and we are in desperate need of more rights-users to sign on as mentors, as we're having to share multiple mentees between each mentor. If you're looking to leave your mark on the wiki, then signing onto TVA program will be your way of doing so.
  2. As a minor update, we now have a new plagiarism point of contact. Should you suspect plagiarized content is at play, please get into point with the user FDekker who will be the initial handler of all such cases going forward.
  3. We have an upcoming meeting of the minds coming up on the 20th of this month, and we need people to come forth and pitch their ideas for adapting to the recent UCP changes, and to possibly adopt some of the ideas that our new datamining friends have been pitching to us.

Thanks for your consideration, and I do hope to hear back from you all! Even if it is just some of you dropping by to check the place out and say a quick hello. 寧靜 Fox 14:08, 13 November 2020 (UTC)

Thank you so very much[]

I wanted to say thank you for supporting my b-crat app (especially for the low, low price of $50, what a steal). All of your well wishes, advice, kind words, and support mean the world to me, especially coming from you. I hope to do a good job and do the yes vote justice.
