The Vault 32 raiders are a raider gang in the Fallout TV series.

Background[]

These raiders, led by Lee Moldaver, infiltrated Vault 32 from the outside circa 2296 using the Pip-Boy of deceased Vault dweller Rose MacLean in Moldaver's possession. They disguised themselves as Vault 32 dwellers (the actual dwellers having conveniently died off around two years earlier) to enter Vault 33 during the Triennial Trade corresponding to Lucy MacLean's wedding when the doors between the two Vaults were unsealed. After the wedding reception, during which raider Monty played the part of Lucy's to-be husband, the raiders broke into the Vault 33 armory and proceeded to massacre as many of the Vault dwellers as they could while also taking casualties themselves.

After Moldaver accomplished her objective (kidnapping the Vault 33 overseer, Hank MacLean), she left with her elite guard and several of the other raiders. Of the raiders who stayed in Vault 33, many were killed, while sixteen were captured and held prisoner for some time, with their fates being subject to heated debate amongst the Vault dwellers. Many of the dwellers, including the Vault council (Betty Pearson, Woody Thomas, and Reg McPhee), advocated for rehabilitating the raiders and integrating them into Vault society. In contrast, others such as Steph Harper and Norm MacLean disagreed. The sixteen captive raiders were kept under lock and key in a repurposed classroom, guarded at all times by security and with meals brought to them by Norm.

The captive raiders were ultimately murdered via rat poison in one of their meals, with their corpses taken away. The culprit behind the crime is currently unknown; Norm was not suspected despite his role as the prisoners' food handler, while the cell attendant Veronica was hauled away for questioning by Vault security.

Meanwhile, the raiders also provided a convenient excuse for Betty Pearson and Bud Askins to explain the deaths of everyone in Vault 32. While the truth was that the residents had killed each other under unclear circumstances after discovering the truth of Vault 31, the experimental leaders were able to claim that the raiders instead massacred the Vault 32 dwellers.

"The End"[]

Under the guise of Vault 32 dwellers, led by their overseer Lee Moldaver, the raiders participate in the Triennial Trade, where Lucy MacLean would wed Monty. A wedding ceremony is held for the newlyweds, and the two, alongside many of the Vault 33 and 32 dwellers, dance with each other.

Sometime after Lucy and Monty returned to their room to have sex with each other, Lucy's Pip-Boy detected Radiation coming from Monty. Realizing that Monty is a surfacer, the two skirmishes where Lucy defends himself against him, tearing open his left cheek.

Exiting her room and arming herself with a Tranq gun, Lucy fires it off at a Vault 32 dweller who tried to attack her and discovers that they're actually raiders from the surface. As the fight between the Vault 33 dwellers and the Vault 32 raiders progresses, Lucy is confronted by Monty, who tries to strangle her. However, Hank MacLean, Lucy's father, comes to her aid and strangles Monty in a barrel of pickles.

Receiving a signal from his Pip-boy that the intervault door has been compromised, Hank and Lucy head there to find several Vault 33 dwellers held hostage by the Vault 32 raiders. The raider leader, Moldaver, threatens to kill the hostages unless he surrenders himself to her, to which he reluctantly agrees, much to Lucy's dismay, who was locked inside a broom closet by him. After two Vault 32 raiders tranq Hank and the hostages are released, an improvised bomb placed by the Vault 32 door is detonated.

The next day, as the Vault 33 dwellers clean up after the Vault 32 raiders' raid, a couple of Vault 33 dwellers each drag a Vault 32 raider corpse into the compost room.

"The Head"[]

The sixteen Vault 32 raiders are imprisoned in the repurposed reading room under the watch of Marianne with some Vault 33 guards stationed nearby. Norm MacLean is buzzed in with a food tray for the Vault 32 raiders. Marianne would alert the Vault 32 raiders to wake up, pass their food through the door hatch, and tell them they were welcome. Despite her kind nature, the raiders snatch the food from her hand and then try to inform them about the utensil; she's cut off by a raider who threatens to eat her heart. Peering through the window, a bald, heavyset raider and a shirtless raider threaten to break Norm's head open.

Afterward, a meeting concerning the sixteen Vault 32 raiders is held, led by the Vault 33 council. It's proposed by council members Reg McPhee and Woody Thomas that the Vault 32 raiders be rehabilitated into their Vault society. Ideas are proposed by Davey, Marianne, and an unnamed Vault 33 dweller. However, a scoff from Norm, who alludes to killing them all when asked for an opinion.

Moments after Norm's suggestion, the Vault 33 engineer announces, with the Council's permission, that the Water chip is destroyed. He further details that there's only enough water for two months and doesn't include the Vault 32 raiders.

Once the meeting was adjourned, Steph Harper approached Norm and said the Vault 32 raiders killed her husband and that he was right about killing them.

"The Ghouls"[]

Reg joins Woody, giving him a mug of coffee, standing in front of a window staring at a sedated Vault 32 raider. He learns from Woody that he was questioning a Vault 32 raider about his name, identity, motive for kidnapping Overseer MacLean, and organizing principle the raiders may follow.

Just then, the Vault 32 raider regains consciousness and tries to free himself from his restraints. Despite Woody advising the Vault 32 raider to stop or else he'd hurt himself, the raider tells Woody, "Fuck you", forcing Woody to prepare to tranq him and try again tomorrow.

The Vault 32 raiders are indirectly mentioned in a heart-to-heart between Vault 33 council member Betty Pearson and Norm about what he suggested during the meeting.

Eventually, following the orders of the council, Norm served the Vault 32 raiders jell-O cake. However, he allows Veronica to take it. He interacts with one of the Vault 32 raiders named Dervin, who alludes that the raiders didn't kill the original Vault 32 dwellers.

Dervin's revelation would inspire Norm to investigate Vault 32 with his cousin Chet. In their investigation, they discovered that the Vault 32 dwellers had perished two years ago. Further into their investigation, Chet asks if the raiders had arrived when the Vault 32 dwellers were already dead; it poses the question of who killed them.

Entering the Vault 32 Overseer room, Norm and Chet find the mangled corpse of the Vault 32 Overseer. Chet then claims the Vault 32 dwellers went bananas, but Norm argues that doesn't explain how the raiders managed to get inside. Looking around the room, Chet considers that any surviving Vault 32 dwellers let the raiders in. Checking the Overseer's computer, Norm discovers the raiders entered in from the outside using the Pip-boy of his mother Rose MacLean.

"The Past"[]

As Norm and Chet leave Vault 32, Norm questions how the Vault 32 raiders had gotten a hold of his mom's Pip-boy.

During the Vault 33's tour of the newly renovated and refurbished Vault 32, Norm visits the Vault 32 Overseers' office. Betty then approaches him from behind, mentioning that the raiders destroyed so much but not their spirits.

"The Radio"[]

Over time, Norm continued to deliver the Vault 32 raiders' trays of food, and on the day that Betty announced which Vault 33 dweller would be transferred into Vault 32. All of the Vault 32 raiders were found dead, and the Vault 33 medic said their deaths were because of rat poisoning, and Veronica was said to have been the one who killed them.

Afterward, Norm would visit Chet's housing unit, and Steph, carrying her baby, would greet him and mention the tragedy of what happened to the Vault 32 raiders.

Notes[]

While the raiders worked for New California Republic leader Lee Moldaver, their exact relationship with the NCR is unclear. Given their behavior, they could be a raider gang hired by Moldaver rather than actual NCR soldiers.
