Ah, I believe in your language it is simply Italy. I was born there. I remember very little of it. There's still a connection. I think there's something that binds you to where your ancestors are from. It may not make sense if you've been raised in the place your family has always had roots in. Ah, don't mind me. I'm just rambling at this point. What makes it worse is knowing I can never go back. That, and not knowing what Italy's fate was after the bombs. Who knows what it looks like now?

Giuseppe Della Ripa is a stamp vendor who runs his store called Giuseppe's Curios at the Whitespring Refuge in Appalachia.

Background[]

Giuseppe was born in Italy. Although he barely remembers it, he likes to think he has a connection to Italy anyway. He is saddened how he cannot return to his birthplace due to the Great War, as well as being unsure of how Italy has fared in the turmoil.

His family moved from Italy to Clarksburg just before the Great War, and later moved to New York. Though he is reluctant to reveal it, if four of his riddles are correctly answered, he will confess his true reason for being in Appalachia to the Vault Dweller: his mother died in New York. He has come to Appalachia to seek out any surviving relatives from his time in Clarksburg.[1] If a friendship has not been built through his riddles, he prefers to keep his true business in Appalachia close to the vest and claims he is a mere collector and merchant.

In 2104, Giuseppe joined the new group at the Whitespring Refuge. His shop is established near The Soda Fountain, next to Bubbles.

Behind the scenes[]

When Giuseppe says the line "I've called many places home. Clarksburg, New York. Now Appalachia again. But none ring truer in my heart than the homeland," his voice delivery is given in such a way that it implies he is referring to a place in New York named Clarksburg, as if they are part of the same address. However, his other dialogue demonstrates that this is not the case, and he is actually referring to the Clarksburg in in-game Appalachia.

  1. Vault Dweller: "We're friends, right? Can you tell me what you're actually here for?"
Giuseppe Della Ripa: "Yes, we are friends. You're probably the most reliable person I know of. I suppose it is only fair. Well, you see, my mother died back in New York. She was all I had. And now...now I'm back in Appalachia looking for any family I might have. My family immigrated to Clarksburg from Italia before the war. So I might just have some surviving relatives here. If I'm lucky, that is. Of course, this all stays between us, capiche? I don't need every single soul and their mother in the Whitespring knowing my business."
