โ€œA Scorchbeast could kill us at any moment and you're worried about mud. Typical.โ€

The bitter lover is a resident of the Whitespring Refuge in Appalachia.

Background[]

He has been having relationship problems with his girlfriend, the resentful lover. A number of conflicts may arise between the couple, including the fact that he does not want to wash his armor because he feels they have more important priorities. They may also argue over sleeping in power armor, or the effects of radiation.

He met his girlfriend 15 years ago; his girlfriend's father pulled a machete on him the night the lovers met because he thought his daughter was running away with a raider. Even though the suspicion was untrue, the father disapproved of the relationship anyway.

Behind the scenes[]

According to voice actor Torian Brackett, who also voiced generic Responders at the Refuge, he was asked to voice side characters like the bitter lover and the Responder janitor on the day of recording. Brackett had more directional leeway with these characters than the generic Responders he was cast for. Brackett cited this as an example of why actors must keep an open mind and be ready for anything before recording, as he was not expecting to voice the other characters like the bitter lover but "they need to be given the same care and attention as anyone else."[Non-game 1]
