Me? Darling, no. I have everything I could need. But those who suffered, and even perished, under the cruelty of the Fanatics... they need our compassion. Find their tracking collars, sweetheart. Bring them to me, so I may lay their souls to rest. If we cannot respect the memory of the dead, then there is no hope for the living.

Ava Rose is an elderly woman located in the Trench in the Pitt in Fallout 76.

Background[]

Ava was born with a bad spine and was bedridden for most of her childhood. On the morning of her seventh birthday, she got out of bed and walked. When the bombs of the Great War fell, Ava recounts witnessing a man blister in front of her. She states that she curled up on the ground until all the sounds faded, finding herself surrounded by rubble but alive.[1]

As an older woman, Ava became caught in the battle between the Union and the Fanatics. She once stayed in the Sanctum when it was a peaceful and secure place, but when it was taken over by the Fanatics, Ava ran for her life and managed to escape.[2] She eventually decided to go on a wandering journey and found herself at the Pitt. She believed she was guided back to help those in need.[3]

Ava is a Christian, as she mentions the Holy Spirit and thinks her presence in aiding the dire situation is a result of God's plan for her.[3] She wonders if the horrors of the wasteland are a test from God, and hopes that her good deeds will earn her a place in heaven after death. She views everyone as being God's children, even the Fanatics; she believes they are suffering and that because they believe themselves beyond redemption, they only dig themselves deeper in their immoral actions.[4]

  1. Vault dweller: "That sounds like a miracle."
Ava Rose: "Oh, not a miracle, no. Only the Lord allowing me to do his work. He has lifted me up all my life for this purpose. I was born with a bad spine, bedridden for most of my childhood. But on the morn of my seventh birthday, I got out of my bed and walked. And when the bombs fell. Heavens. I watched a man blister before my eyes. I curled up on the ground until it was silent. Rubble had fallen all around me, but I survived."
  2. Ava Rose: "Hello, sweetie. May I ask what brought you to this troubled place?"
Vault dweller: "You first. What are you doing here?"
Ava Rose: "The Lord brought me to this place. First, to the sanctuary of the cathedral, when it was a sanctuary. When the Fanatics came storming in... I should have died then. I no longer have the strength to endure such violence. But God opened the way for me. He averted their eyes so that I could escape. I stay to pass on His kindness to all those who make it through here."
  3. 3.0 3.1 Vault dweller: "How did you end up here?"
Ava Rose: "Once, I stayed in the Sanctum, when it was a place of love and security. The lost souls who claimed it from us, they took their chains to every survivor. All except me. Their eyes turned away from me as I escaped. The Holy Spirit at my back, I was able to find liberation. Was I guided here, to this safe place outside the dark and toxic chasms? Yes. But no map did I follow, no direction was I given. I was guided here to help those who remain."
  4. Vault dweller: [Mission] "What do you think of the Fanatics?"
Ava Rose: "I believe they are suffering. They think themselves beyond salvation. So they march ever deeper into perdition. That is what Danilo thought. What he thinks. And now, he has saved hundreds of lives. I've spoken to others. Given them gifts... scarves of pure white. They may yet be convinced it is not to late. If only... If only I could... *cough* Forgive me *cough* sweetie. What was I saying?"
