Far Harbor dialogue[]

Hi again J. I've found another bit of dialogue missing from the wiki, if it's not too much trouble for you to look into. The generic Children of Atom NPCs at the Nucleus in Far Harbor have some dynamic conversations that don't appear to be on the wiki. It looks like DLC03CoA DialogueNucleusGeneric.txt has the generic lines when they're interacted with, but not the conversations they have with other NPCs. LaymansReign (talk) 03:26, 10 May 2023 (UTC)

Abuse filter[]

Thanks for catching that false positive block from the abuse filter. Not sure what specifically tripped it lmao. I was trying to add the new transcripts for the "Writings of Jacque" notes from the Once in a Blue Moon PTS and got a message the abuse filter had been triggered. LaymansReign (talk) 14:48, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

Cool, the dialogue is looking really good. Thanks again for your hard work! LaymansReign (talk) 14:51, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

Missing Grahm lines[]

I was verifying a conversation between Grahm and Sofia Daguerre and noticed that Grahm's lines weren't on his page. Could you please add them?--Ant2242 (talk) 01:07, 12 May 2023 (UTC)

Thank you!--Ant2242 (talk) 14:55, 12 May 2023 (UTC)

On a related topic; Are we missing the Communist robot lines from Camp McClintock?--Ant2242 (talk) 05:58, 13 May 2023 (UTC)

Here is one of the lines that I'm trying to verify. Camp McClintock communist robots: "Capitalism is slavery! These shackles will be broken!"

--Ant2242 (talk) 09:15, 14 May 2023 (UTC)

Sorry, I've been searching through Nukacrypt and haven't come up with anything. With the line above I copy pasted it from the Communism page already here. I don't know how to find entire dialogue files on Nukacrypt without the specific Form ID.--Ant2242 (talk) 02:31, 15 May 2023 (UTC)

Thank you for the Communist sympathizer dialogue page! Do we have the dialogue file page for the Mister Gutsy encounter in FO4 where you can get it to explode? Or the People's Republic of America Radio dialogue file? I found a page with notes from the latter and it differs from what's presented here. Incorrect words and the addition of script notes.--Ant2242 (talk) 05:50, 17 May 2023 (UTC)

Hello, I was verifying references when I noticed that we're probably missing Dr. Barrow lines from Broken Steel. Could you please verify this and add them to his dialogue file page if it's really him? Here is the reference presented.

The Lone Wanderer: "Doc, it's crowded in your clinic. Something going around I should worry about?" Barrows: "I don't know yet. Some kind of virus that attacks the body on a cellular level. I've never seen anything like it. It's strange because ghouls are immune to almost any known disease." (Doctor Barrows' dialogue) --Ant2242 (talk) 06:14, 23 May 2023 (UTC)

Thank you! Can you please add the FO4 Mister Gutsy encounter lines to the wiki? Here's an example: Sole Survivor: "Go fuck yourself, you crazy robot." Mister Gutsy: "Analyzing... American colloquialism confirmed. Probability of use by Chinese infiltrator... zero-point-three percent. Thank you. Report any suspected Communists to the proper authorities immediately. Have a nice day." --Ant2242 (talk) 00:23, 24 May 2023 (UTC)

I found another missing line, this time for Meg Groberg. I'm not sure if it's cut content or not. This is on the our page "0053E602" when checking Nukacrypt this is on the displayed page "Exclude from dialogue export". "We've traveled the Wasteland from the Commonwealth to DC. We take... whatever we want. And we want that vault. Who's going to stop us? You?"

--Ant2242 (talk) 04:21, 24 May 2023 (UTC)

Thank you for adding them! It was attributed incorrectly on the Commonwealth page of all places. This is a good example why I push hard for reference with source verification. Is that Crater raider line spoken by all the Crater raiders? Is it only available should the player not have at least agreed to split it with the Crater Raiders?--Ant2242 (talk) 16:50, 24 May 2023 (UTC)

Here's another line that's missing from the dialogue file on the Commonwealth page...

Pouring drinks for bandits seems like a fast way to get yourself killed. You aren't worried for your own safety?" Molly: "Worried? Pfft. Hardly. Sure, I lock my cap stash up at night, but these folks are pussycats compared to the ones I grew up around. South Boston, before the bombs, real bad. Military blockades, trigger-happy cops, and looming over it all, the monster himself. Eddie. Winter. Nah, I'll pour drinks for these troublemakers any day of the week over that life again." (Molly's dialogue) --Ant2242 (talk) 17:51, 24 May 2023 (UTC)

This is why I check every reference like a mad man.... it's properly formatted and yet it might not be real. [[1]]

--Ant2242 (talk) 18:22, 24 May 2023 (UTC)

I found another few lines on the "rain" page that I cannot verify. I cannot find them on either generic "Settler (Wastelanders)" dialogue pages. If that's even who speaks the lines.

Generic Settler: "No rain or radstorm. It's nice to be outside again."
Generic Settler: "Ohh just what I needed. Wet sheets after a night of poor sleep."
Generic Settler: "Personally the rain helps me sleep. The sound of a nice drizzle drowns out everything else."
Generic Settler: "Damn it's pouring! How the hell you supposed to sleep in this?"

Also I cannot verify the context of how the lines "W05_RE_Camp_JP11_BloodEagleCamp" are spoken. It's on the "Crater Raiders/Random encounter dialogue" page but the previously stated that it was spoken by the Generic Blood Eagles. Are these lines spoken by generic Crater Raiders who take over some sort of Blood Eagle camp at some point after a quest?--Ant2242 (talk) 18:44, 4 June 2023 (UTC)

Thank you. I've updated the page with the information you gave me. I've left Verify tags with brief descriptions on what's needed. The random encounter you mentioned "Blood Eagles Eavesdrop" isn't on the random encounters page. Is it new?--Ant2242 (talk) 04:04, 6 June 2023 (UTC)

FO4 npc dialogue[]

Hey Jspoel, want to ask if you'd be able to export dialogue for the caretaker (CurieQCaretaker), the generic Bunker Hill caravan workers, and the two caravan prisoners from Prep School? The latter two we don't have pages for and I'm hoping to make them in the next few days. FDSMDP (talk) 00:25, 12 June 2023 (UTC)

On a separate note, do you know if there's a consensus on the name format for generic BoS members (FO3/NV)? i.e. our pages for scribes and paladins are "Scribe (Fallout __)" and "Paladin (FO _)", while initiates and NV knights follow the in-game format and have "Brotherhood of Steel" in the title. FDSMDP (talk) 01:13, 12 June 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for the help! Re: brotherhood, your plan seems good to me -- is there need for discussion with anyone else or can we get that underway? Regarding caravan prisoner dialogue, I was collecting images ingame and they had some unique lines that aren't on the page right now, along the lines of "did kessler send you," "don't let them live," etc. My CK now crashes when viewing dialogue, otherwise I'd try to confirm that in the editor. Re: Raider scavenger outfit[]

That's my bad. I didn't know there were other characters with the outfit and just assumed "outfit" had been left out by mistake. Double-checking in the files, yeah, there's no usage of it with "outfit." I've changed it back.

Also, Once in a Blue Moon is out now, so I'll be working on edits for it. Wish me luck! LaymansReign (talk) 15:02, 20 June 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for the reminder. And no, I wasn't working on the patch notes, so you can take those if you'd like. LaymansReign (talk) 15:32, 20 June 2023 (UTC)

SS's race[]

Hi J, I recently had a contested edit on the SS's race, as seen on the Sole Survivor's talk page. In my opinion, we should absolutely not list their race as "Human" as if it's a fact... because at the end of the day, we can absolutely can not prove the SS is a human: it is simply an assumption, and it is unprofessional for us to list assumptions as facts, especially when the veracity of them are literally called into heavy question by the game itself.

Far Harbor can outright get the SS to say "I'm a synth. In the back of my mind, I've always suspected..." and proclaim that they have zero childhood memories and that their first memory began the day of the Great War. This should be enough to justify "Race: Human" being wiped out of the infobox. People have debated the SS being a synth in 2016, and we're still debating it in 2023. I disagree with my edit being reverted under the basis of "speculation" because to me, it's clearly meant to be ambiguous, and likely that Bethesda put this choice to let you dialogue to make you question everything you knew about the SS, and allow you to role-play as a synth. The Sole Survivor being a human also qualifies as speculation.

Previously, I've been against the wiki pushing interpretations and assumptions as facts. For example, I was the one who said we should get the GECK race out of the main infobox section because the races are hidden data not meant to be seen by the player, and Bethesda has never stated that the GECK races are intended to be a character's canonical race as opposed to merely easy and fast character creation using a template. I was also the one that, after years of it being on the wiki, got Kasumi's race from being changed from "human" to "human or synth" because I felt listing it as "human" is biased: it opposes and shuts down dissenting views.

In Fallout 4, literally anyone can be a synth: the handyman of the Minuteman, the mayor of Diamond City, the woman who sings at the bar. This is one of the major themes of the game and I don't know why the SS should be shielded from this possibility, especially when Shaun is shown to be a liar withholding information from us. We should also put a disclaimer on the "Fallout 4 human characters" about how everyone being a human in this category is an assumption, since it is proven not all synths will drop components. As for the SS's infobox, my suggestion is to put "Human (presumed)" and list an addendum explaining why this is.

I know this is an extremely controversial edit, which is why I feel comfortable talking to you about this. I feel like we should have a group discussion about this (whether it be here or on the Discord) or else I feel like my edits will just be reverted in the future. Skorch (talk) 10:52, 24 June 2023 (UTC)

It makes sense when you consider that the SS could be a replacement for their real parent as an experiment by Father and that they originally died in Vault 111 somehow (e.g. killed by Kellogg). Memory extraction using a preserved brain is shown to be a real technology at the Memory Den, as well as memory manipulation and creation (as seen with Danse's fake memories. The prologue of the game could be a modified memory where the SS was never suffocated with the other residents or killed by Kellogg. Cryosleep is a great way to preserve a brain. If Shaun is so... "creative" that he wants to create a synth version of himself as a child, it makes sense he is willing to create a synth version of his parent and get the two synths to have a parent-child relationship (the one he was never able to have as a human being). It also makes sense that Shaun would put his synth parent through the trials of the wasteland, instead of risk his real parent dying and never being able to discover the truth of who his parent was (which according to my scenario, would not have been possible anyway because his real parent died). Suddenly, Shaun's motives make far more sense and why Deacon is following you around the wasteland; being a Railroad member, he could have intel you're a synth, but does not know whether you're aligned with the Institute or not so is keeping an eye on you as a result.
The SS's humanity is absolutely called into question by the game itself. There's two other huge pieces of evidence: the SS's name is technically inaccurate because Shaun also survived (implying his original parent died), and being able to use V.A.T.S. in the opening. I think it should be up to a group discussion vote though, under the logic that because we have no proof the SS is a human, and the game itself suggests the SS may not be human with the SS telling DiMA they're a synth. If DiMA says the SS could be a synth, and the SS can tell DiMA "I'm a synth" and say their first memories began the day of the Great War, it should be sufficient to change the infobox. There's also more hints in Fallout Shelter Online where Kellogg openly admits he is probably just a pawn of the Institute. Skorch (talk) 00:28, 25 June 2023 (UTC)
Technically, yes, but it's also possible what I also said is true, but imo, the game itself is sufficient for the infobox to be changed without us needing to contact developers (but if there is a writer roundtable in the future, it would be a good question to ask). I don't think we should have a "innocent until proven guilty" mindset here because this is a wiki, so listing "innocent" or "guilty" would be inappropriate when dealing with an unsolved case. One other possibility we could do is eliminate the Race parameter entirely. I do think there's enough information to warrant "Human" being removed/changed under the basis their humanity is in doubt by the game itself, and none of us can prove the SS is a human as a fact... and well, wikis should have facts. Sure, it seems weird to think about the SS being a synth, but this is Fallout though. This is a series with aliens, ghosts, people surviving in fridges for 200 years, androids replacing people, cyptids, people being trapped in virtual simulations. We just got Indrid Cold in 76. I would appreciate if we could get a discussion and a consensus on this matter. Aren't you on the Discord? Can't you start a discussion there? Skorch (talk) 04:22, 26 June 2023 (UTC)

Ack-Ack Infobox Image[]

Hey J, is there anything in particular you don't like about the image I uploaded for Ack-Ack's infobox? I really don't see how mine isn't an improvement on what was there before. I'd like to put something of higher quality there but if it's just going to get reverted there's no point, k'know? Sodasip (talk) 14:36, 5 July 2023 (UTC)

Okay cool, I understand. Thanks for the reply. I've been using Photo Mode from the nexus to get better screenshots and thought something more 'dynamic' would be an improvement there (everything else is vanilla, naturally). If I end up contributing more I'll keep that in mind. Sodasip (talk) 20:12, 5 July 2023 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for letting me know. I used "Chraczil" template accidentally, it's my mistake. It should be Template:Available legendary effects FO76. I'll swap this asap. I'll also remove it from Notes and I'll put it under "Legendary Effects". Documentation will be made shortly. Fallout 4 local map images[]

Hey J, how's it going? I wanted to reach out and see if you can recall where you got all the local map images for FO4 that you uploaded some years ago. These are what I'm talking about: Category:Fallout_4_local_map_images. Were they in the game files and extracted? If so, where? If you generated them somehow, do you recall how? Thanks in advance -Gilpo1 (talk)

Broken Steel dialogue[]

Howdy J. I was curious if you could look into another bit of missing dialogue, this one from Broken Steel. There are some scenes described on the Broken Steel encounters page that don't seem to have dialogue exports on the wiki. I'm particularly interested in the Nuka-Cola plant one, with the soldiers who say "I've got nothing to say to wastelander scum like you." LaymansReign (talk) 17:25, 24 July 2023 (UTC)

Awesome, thank you! LaymansReign (talk) 21:09, 24 July 2023 (UTC)

RE: Grave sounds[]

Thanks! The Sound object itself (EMTGrave) was pointed out by a Reddit comment somewhere (can't remember where.) From there on all I needed to do was search in the GECK and find the object. Sound objects in the FNV GECK (not FO3) have a "__% Chance" option so that's where I got that from, and it also lists the file directory. FDSMDP (talk) 17:17, 31 July 2023 (UTC)

Thanks[]

For the fix on The Glow page. I plan to use the images, I've cleaned out the ones that aren't needed at a glance and added them where applicable. For the power armor paints, I'm waiting on a programmer to get back to me with a tool to help work this out. 【Tagaziel】 17:48, 2 August 2023 (UTC)

FNV GECK information[]

Would you happen to know about where in the GECK that the details of the magnification levels of the various weapon scopes are actually stored? I don't see them listed in the menus for the mods or the menus of the weapons themselves. Great Mara (talk) 01:47, 7 August 2023 (UTC)

The weapons that inherently have a scope list magnification values on their pages, and the weapons with scope modiciations list a magnification value on the weapon, mod, and weapon modification overview pages at decimal values. So I don't think it's a guess? I just can't find where that information would be stored going through the weapon or scope mod menus in the GECK at all. And the value change listed for modifications only seems to refer to the monetary change from applying the mods and not the actual change of the mods applied to the weapons. Great Mara (talk) 21:38, 7 August 2023 (UTC)

New plans[]

J, in regards to your recent edits of links to the new plans, typically we don't combine plan variants into one page. We save that for the items themselves. Right now, every plan in 76 has its own dedicated page. So your edit is a departure from that. Additionally, we've been discussing strategies for organizing the CAMP item pages better (and finishing them) and perhaps automating a lot of it. I'm working on a way to autogenerate these plan pages that's sustainable long-term. That's why I haven't made the pages yet. Wanted to do a trial run. Let me know your thoughts. FO3BS Missing generic lines, FOS dialogue format, and external reference archiving[]

Hello I am finally able to putt the finishing touches to the Broken Steel pages rewrites, while doing so I noticed that some of the lines are missing from the dialogue file pages. They appear to be conversation lines, here are some examples of them. Could you please add them to the pages?

Brotherhood of Steel knight: "You're good to go."
Rivet City security: "All right then. We'll see you in a few days."
Brotherhood of Steel knight: "Well... sure. Let me guess -- your first time on caravan duty?"
Rivet City security: "Yeah. So what?"
Rivet City security: "You think we can't handle it? Believe me, you guys aren't the only ones who know how to put down a raider."
Brotherhood of Steel knight: "Take it easy. I'm sure you'll be fine. Just like all the other caravans."
Rivet City security: "Whatever."
Rivet City security: "All right, let's move it out!"
Scavenger: "Okay then. Come on, there, Sukey! Gee-up now!

I am also almost finished with my referencing guidelines and have two sections that I need help with. The FOS dialogue section currently states that the FOS dialogue is on their quest pages. Is this the wiki's official policy or some sort of temporary measure? If either then where does it say this on the wiki? The other is the section on how to archive external sources that for whatever reason the archiving sites don't work. I have no idea how to write the section. Nor do I know if we made it policy to archive external reference sources. --Ant2242 (talk) 06:23, 10 August 2023 (UTC)

Is it true that all three of these generic characters use the same dialogue file? Or is this the wiki's format for convenience? "DLC03Encounters.txt" --Ant2242 (talk) 05:51, 13 August 2023 (UTC)

There is also a Rivet City security conversation "Rivet_City_conversations#Broken_Steel" that is missing from their dialogue file page. Could you please add it?--Ant2242 (talk) 06:38, 13 August 2023 (UTC)

Fixed[]

Sorry, the notification system gets wonky sometimes. If the 1 appears, then it means that for some reason the proper name for the tab isn't displayed, in this case it was a missing conditional. 【Tagaziel】 06:46, 15 August 2023 (UTC)

Topnav[]

Hey J, someone pointed out we were missing FSO from the navbar, so I added it, and we actually had one more slot! So I've taken the liberty of adding a tab. All is at Mediawiki:Wiki-navigation, and of course, my edits aren't gospel, so if there's a way to make it even better, just tell me how I can help :) 【Tagaziel】 17:25, 16 August 2023 (UTC)

It's a feature, not a bug[]

At least, near as I can tell! I modified it so that if there's more than one local map, the tabs will display Local Map 1, then 2, and 3, so that they actuall fit within the space given. Hope it helps. Keep 'em coming! 【Tagaziel】 18:41, 22 August 2023 (UTC)

Patch number[]

Yeah, I don't know why the patch notes have been doing that lately. The consistent patch number for this update is 1.7.6.7. As far as I can tell, we'll still be treating it like it's part of Once in a Blue Moon, since there's no new content update with Season 14, but there is some new stuff like the perks and holotapes. We'll probably update the page for Once in a Blue Moon with separate sections for what was added with the latest patch. LaymansReign (talk) 19:10, 23 August 2023 (UTC)

Hey J, it's a-me again! I've been meaning to sync the concept art archives here and on The Vault for a while, since there's a discrepancy counted in the hundreds. There's an automated way to move files, though it will likely result in duplicates. For example, this category has 348 files while the one over here has just 190. What do you think? 【Tagaziel】 13:37, 28 September 2023 (UTC)

Hey J. Have you looked at the reuploads of FO1/2 dialogue in RC (i.e. File:AELD1.ogg), all by the same user? Icons for FNV's DLC are not visible[]

Hi ! Hope you've been well. First time back in a long time for me.

With the (new-ish) black background for the Wiki, the icons for some of the DLC no longer show up. Even when I brighten my screen to the brightest level, I can not see the black icon for DM at all, and the ones for LR & HH are almost not visible. And I have really good vision, so I'm sure it's even worse for those with vision handicaps. The only icon that can be seen easily is the one for OWB. My Suggestion: update the icons / templates so that each of the icons has a thin white border around the icon. This would allow it to show up no matter whether a white background or a black (or other color) background is used. If this was done, would the new image auto-populate on all of the pages in the wiki that has one of the icons ? Or will the icon that was in place at the time the page was edited be the one that shows up (in other words all of the icons throughout the wiki would have to be manually changed to the new images, ugh) ? Thanks ! Hope this idea works. - AngelaStuff2 (talk) 19:32, 14 November 2023 (UTC)

I have updated the Dead Money icon (added a 2 pixel wide white border around it). To do that I made the image 4 pixels wider and 4 longer (81x44 was 77x40). It is very visible for me now, although I wonder should I have made it only 1 pixel wide ? Check it out and see what do you think ?
The Guns page has all 4 DLC icons in the Interactions section, so you can compare them to each other on a live page ... https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Guns. One thing that also makes it easier to see the icons, or at least see that something is there even if you can't actually see the icon, is on the Guns page the icon is at the beginning of each line of text. So you can(could) see what looked like a blank space of black there (now you can see the DM icon because of the border). On the explosives page in the Interactions section, the icons are at the ends of each line so it is MUCH harder to see the LR icon and DM basically wasn't visible at all. https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Explosives_(Fallout:_New_Vegas)
Another option would be white background for the DM icon, so I also uploaded a version of it that has a black text on a white background with a black border around it. You cannot see the black border with the black background on the wiki but of course would see the border on a white page. On this page you can compare all 3 versions - original, white background, and white border ... https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/File:Gametitle-FNV_DM.png. Finally, I could make a brand new icon with the beige background instead of white, the way it was (I think) on the DLC disc. Like this but cropped of course ... https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Dead_Money
On another topic altogether, another question of your preference: The wording is different from page to page on the various skills and on other pages as well. Personally, I like the second or third wording better as it conveys the same information in less words, and I don't really like the use of 'perfect Agility' (what's perfect for me might be different than what's perfect for you), and 'depending on current Agility' is superfluous (of course it depends on your current agility). Instead of 'however' in the second wording, alternately the word could be 'except' or 'but' or ____. Your thoughts/preference ? I am working my way thru the skills pages, so eventually I can get them all changed over to one set of wording.

Yes, I liked the white background with black border the best as well !! : )
(or alternately a new icon made using the original artwork that has beige background, cropped)
Here are 3 pages for you to compare (re: coyote tobacco chew)

I just uploaded the Dead Money icon with the beige background if you want to go check it out on the Guns page again. I ended up liking it better than the stark white background. Although, maybe it needs slightly more beige border around it ? I can add it if you think it needs it, or just leave it as is. This is the artwork I used which I cropped, covered the black spot of the bullet hole, then re-sized https://store.steampowered.com/agecheck/app/72730/. I looked at this one, but it was going to take much more work to manipulate it into an icon, it had part of a skeleton over the words instead of a bullet hole https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Dead_Money. In my opinion the new version is much better. I'm not married to the beige background however, so feel free to revert it if you like the white better.

Hiya, I have another update. I was looking at the Lonesome Road icon and was trying to find the source for it online. Literally nowhere could I find artwork with the red letters like the icon here on the wiki. No idea where we got that icon artwork, or maybe it was original artwork by the person who uploaded it. At any rate, I grabbed the artwork online which I cropped, covered the feet of the person walking down the road which basically only looked like black blobs when cropped, then re-sized https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sT8_nZMtViM/UC-UY1zoUVI/AAAAAAAAAR8/d21q_BKh3lk/s1600/Lonesome_Road_DLC_cover_art.jpg. After I uploaded it I found this one https://i.ytimg.com/vi/Z7PC5IKL47c/hqdefault.jpg which would look fantastic cropped into an icon. But honestly the icons are so teensy there's very little detail left, so the one I already uploaded is fine and is much better than what we had, in my opinion. Again, I'm not married to this version, so feel free to revert it if you like the red letters better.

DLC Icons Screenshot
Thanks for looking at them, I'll go with the 3rd option as I work thru those pages. I did already leave a msg on his talk page and included the screenshot of what those two icons look like on his page. Although I'm sure you've already seen it by now. edit:I see you reverted to the white background DM instead of the beige. Thanks again for your help, I appreciate your time on this. - AngelaStuff2 (talk) 16:55, 17 November 2023 (UTC)
Several things here: Just wanted to touch base and say I haven't forgotten the skills pages (above). I have made it through Explosives so far and am still working my way thru the other pages. Just got distracted a bit by the invisible icons and the traps page and a sound level of weapons project and other things that catch my attention (it's not that I'm easily distracted, it's just tha-- ooooh look a butterfly!!). I used the welcome template for the first time ever for a new user. I think I did it correct User talk:2023new (also he responded to you on his talk page, if you haven't seen it yet). On my contributions page, I'm sure I used to be able to hover over diff or hist and I would get a tiny popup window with a preview of the page or a short list of recent changes, now when I hover it only shows the name of the page, do you know how to fix this or who should I reach out to (Eckserah? Tagaziel?) ? I do have Navigation Popups turned on in preferences > gadgets (if that's what controls it), I'm using windows 11 pro and Edge browser. For the what really links here gadget, there is an 'enter test mode' button on the right and it appears to be working properly in test mode, if you want to use that until the gadget gets sorted out. It appears that the new version was never submitted for approval, so that may be why it's not working ? Is there any way to ask you a question privately, can you access my email address and do you have a 'throwaway' acct you could msg me from, or is there another way ? When using the search bar in the upper right, it returns 5 'suggested' results, is there any way to increase this number either for all users, or just for me personally ‎? As an example, try searching for Combat ... It returns 5 results COMBAT.MSG, all of which pertain to FO1 or FO2 and nothing about FO3 FNV FO4 F76, or if you click see all results for combat you get 11,000 results !!!! Of which it only displays 25 at a time, so 440 pages of results, ugh. Thanks as always for all your help, I've told you before but I'll say it again, you've always been so helpful ! And I appreciate your edit corrections, I always look at what was changed or mistakes I may have made to improve my future edits. And you're fast(!), my page had barely finished reloading and we were already friends. And wow, you've been killing it on all those sound bites and gallery pics, yay. And, the no longer invisible icons make me smile every day, it's a good thing we have someone with Dave's skillz. And finally, I should have bullet pointed this list : ) - AngelaStuff2 (talk) 22:50, 23 December 2023 (UTC)

Transparent icons[]

I don't think there needs to be a correction for the transparent icons since this really only affects the dark version of the site (which I also use), but is still slightly visible. It also doesn't take into account other uses of the icons outside of dark backgrounds, so it's not really solving a problem but just putting it somewhere else. Imo, it's better to be uniform than to make up for one short coming of the color of the title. If you want a solution, I think adding a white stroke on the icons would be better than just having a full white bg with no transparency. Devastating DaveZIP ZAP RAP 19:09, 18 November 2023 (UTC)

Math issues[]

Over the last few days, on some pages I have noticed some issues with the math formulas showing up. For example, the Guns page. Sometimes it's all math formulas, sometimes just one on a page. I've checked every idea I had but can't figure out what's causing it. It could be an issue with the wiki server?? It might be intermittent, as I think? sometimes its fine and other times returns error msg. If it's something I can fix, as I come across it, I'll look at what you do in edit history and apply the same fixes. Also, just wanted to say thanks for all you do! Every time I ever come to the wiki, I see you are constantly busy improving things. I can add the list to the Plasma Mine page later, or if you get to it first while you're adding pics, I'm cool with you adding them. Here's the list ...

  • (HH) Stone Bones cave : Two. One's in a pot at a three-way cave intersection after the first big room from the entrance. The other is on a slope leading down into the flooded room.
  • (HH) Cueva Guarache : There's a room which was inhabited by Randall Clark, and it has a path with a gate leading to a ledge overlooking the biggest cave room. The path has a boulder you need to jump over and the mine is nestled in the boulder.
  • (HH) Two Skies cave : Again, there's a room which was used by Randall Clark. It has a path leading to a flooded area, with the floor covered by branches. The mines are hidden under the branches.
  • (OWB) Big MT west tunnel : one found near two duffel bags located south of the tunnel entrance.

What are your thoughts on the FNV consumables page RE: every single block having links to HP FOD H20 etc etc ? That's a ton of links, do we want every block to have a link, or would the preference be to only have the links in the paragraphs on the page and the table header (or some other idea for the links) ? I'm very torn on which way to go on this.
Second, should blood pack & nightstalker squeezins be in the drinks section ? I think they should be moved to Food with the other bloody things. Especially the nightstalker because its made with flour, cave fungus, and blood like thin red paste, and it comes in a jar like thin red paste & salient green, not a bottle. Or, maybe moving one or both of them to chems would be a better fit ? According to the wiki, we are not showing either of them scale with any skill. I don't know if GECK marks either of them as drinks (or if GECK marks anything as drinks) ?
Bitter Drink: should this be in drinks, is it really a drink or is it like IRL cough syrup or any other med that you take a shot of ? I think it should be moved to chems. It scales with Medicine like chems do, and it comes in a fat bottom clay jug like chems do. On its page, we say it counts as a chem rather than a drink, and also using it qualifies towards the Stim-ply Amazing (stimpak) challenge. Although, when crafted it does use a Sunset bottle. What I really think is that I'm over thinking all of this for a video game LOL. - AngelaStuff2 (talk) 00:02, 5 January 2024 (UTC)
One thing to take into consideration on long tables, especially the food items which is very long: if I change it to every 10 lines, when anyone sorts by any column they will be mixed in no longer every 10 lines. Don't know if that affects your thoughts on that ? - AngelaStuff2 (talk) 17:20, 5 January 2024 (UTC)

Weapons[]

I was just typing this talk to you about weapons page edit when your msg came thru to me. But then it took me until today to finish typing. You know me by now, I always have reasons for my edits, so see what you think ... Reasons : displaying the title like that does not break any links to the page (I think I'm correct about that, right?), it only changes the title at the top of the page and nowhere else so that part of the change should be fine. The other page which was our original Weapons page for 11 years until 2021 used to be titled Weapons (the link now goes to the gallery) but is now titled Weapons - Comparison view. So my change would make these two sister pages match in layout/title consistency. The main thing that was my instigator though - I read on reddit fans comparing our wiki and they said ours only has pics of the weapons but 'another' one has all of the stats, more complete, more accurate blah-blah-blah (several times I've read that more complete more accurate mantra being spouted in general, not just about weapons). So basically, when a fan clicks on weapons, for example from the overview infobox, it takes them to the Gallery page and they think that's all there is to it. (Yes I know right there on that page is the link to the stats comparison page but people be ......). Also, by titling the pages Gallery View and the other Comparison View, no matter which page they land on first, it implies "if this is gallery view, there must be another something-view page, so I'll go look for that". Even on the weapons talk page there were complaints ... Talk:Fallout:_New_Vegas_weapons#Fucked_up... Also, because of this On content organization 'make access to its content as easy as possible'. I think that's all of my thoughts on this, hoping you agree now that you hear my reasoning/another viewpoint. But totally fine and not offended either way if you want to keep it the way you reverted it back to. P.S. my slight OCD tendancies didn't love your frenzy re-order with the longest line of text in the middle of each section but understand you were prob putting in release order ??? P.P.S. the convo with fandom is about the # of search results that you and I talked about a month or so ago and also why the returned results when searching are so wacky, in case you saw that and were wondering what that's about. - AngelaStuff2 (talk) 19:13, 29 January 2024 (UTC)

Fallout 4 and Fallout 76 weapon mod page renaming change propagation[]

Hey J, I've been noticing you've been hard at work updating all the links for weapon mods. Firstly, thanks so much for working on them, but secondly, I've got a bit of a strange ask. Would you be willing to pause for a day or two to let me attempt to update them? RE: Strategic reasoning for renaming mod pages[]

I saw you left a talk on Tag's page regarding an explanation for the mod renaming, I've gone ahead and written a bit about my reasoning for it.

Updating mod tables for Fallout 76 weapons by hand is extremely tedious. When I started, I was spending 6+ hours alt-tabbing between the game and the wiki to input the descriptions, changes in stats, crafting materials, linking the correct pages etc. often for 40+ mods.

Looking for a better way, I learned about xEdit scripting, taught myself Pascal, and wrote a program to automatically parse the information. After a week of development, my code decreased updating mod tables from a 6-hour ordeal to a 30-minute cross referencing session.

Over the course of the next 30+ weapons I updated, it became apparent that the linking of mod pages was my new Everest. Partial automation was possible with code to change the case and add brackets to mined mod names. (Frustratingly, I might add, Pascal has squat in terms of built in string methods, but I suppose I am spoiled by Java/Python).

But what my I couldn't automate was determine which mods ended in (Fallout 76). So, I'd spend a half hour opening every link, checking if they matched, and then going back and resolving conflicts.

Eventually some patterns arose, like:

And while I did begin to hardcode these specific quirks into my code, every new weapon would introduce new exceptions. I could never have true peace of mind the links were correct without opening every link.

In short, standardizing the naming of these mod pages has made updating Fallout 76 weapon pages significantly easier. Further, while not my intention, this also opens a door to revamp Fallout 4 mod tables. The script I wrote could easily be repurposed by others to work with Fallout 4's mod structure and would allow for finer mod details & missing data to be extracted faster than ever. (Also, hypothetically and outside the scope of this change, could future-proof the wiki for Fallout 5 mods) ScratchyNolegsSig 23:36, 4 February 2024 (UTC)

Hey J, apologies for not replying instantly, got swamped by changes and life on my end. I can +1 all of what Scratchy wrote above, as the lack of consistency has been a kind of a problem when it comes to automating virtually anything and with the number of mods growing with each game and release, it's essentially become unmanageable. Sorry for moving ahead with it, but I feel it's a much needed change that might also give us a nudge in SEO results (we dominate search results, but we can always dominate them even more).

My Discord is up in my profile. I think we already have each other added? While we're at it, there's a small matter in the server that I'd love your feedback on (and honestly, it's one that I don't want to pull the trigger on without your point of view on it). 【Tagaziel】 20:05, 6 February 2024 (UTC)

Fo4 raider and triggermen dialogue[]

Hello, I was wondering if you could add the Triggerman dialogue to the wiki. They discuss the history of Vault 114 in their conversations during the quest Unlikely Valentine. There may be more lore in there but we can't know until we have their dialogue here. Also could you please help with verifying some FO4 raider lines? We have them on the wiki but I am unable to tell if they are two part sentences or if each line is separate. Nor can I tell if they were altered from original in game content.--Ant2242 (talk) 03:14, 4 March 2024 (UTC)

Dialogue file page format[]

Could you please add back the other table format on the Interviewer's dialogue page? It doesn't merge and remove columns and content.--Ant2242 (talk) 16:37, 6 March 2024 (UTC)

Thank you for the correct categories! I will use those while I merge and update the pages. I must disagree about the dialogue files. Merging the "script notes" column into the spoken dialogue, italicizing it, and adding brackets around it isn't good. We shouldn't be the ones altering, adding, or removing published dialogue content. It also gets confused with FNV dialogue, which has both a "notes" section and script notes within the spoken lines section that actually does have brackets.--Ant2242 (talk) 17:03, 6 March 2024 (UTC)

Like Lorenzo's Artifact Minigun, Easily one of the funniest overpowered weapons in fallout 4 as another example. https://youtu.be/KUhNdt-kWnM Joe Blaze (talk) 22:53, 14 March 2024 (UTC)

Straightened crutch[]

What's wrong with the straightened crutch for fallout 3's image? Why do my improved images keep getting removed/taken down/reverted despite it being an improvement? I do all I can to improve/add improved images and they're for the most part taken down even though it's a better job. Why? Joe Blaze (talk) 02:26, 15 March 2024 (UTC)

Exploits videos[]

Why are videos a grey area? This is a wiki, A place supposed to house information, Not cast it aside. Right? There's room for improvement. :3 I don't understand why videos like that would need to be taken down, <:( I always see room for improvement and open mindedness. Open mindedness mostly leads to better things from experience. I know you're saying you'd be overrun by them, But there can always be a seperate page for videos and/or images. I strongly believe that allowing available galleries and pages for specific things like this would be an excellent improvement to the wiki. It would allow a whole new gem of entertainment and knowledge to the wiki. :3 Joe Blaze (talk) 02:38, 16 March 2024 (UTC)

Contextual ammo on ammo boxes.[]

I can't remember how to make a comment here, so please forgive me if I'm doing something wrong. I see that the ammo box part where I changed it to contextual ammo was reverted, the ammo boxes on 76 were changed a while ago to only give contextual ammo. Can it be re-reverted? Thanks. דָּנִיֵּאל March 22, 2024 (UTC)

Background color[]

The colors are defined via Special:ThemeDesigner. Do you mean classes for the personal CSS? Checking your personal common.css that seems to be implemented already. :) Tagaziel 12:52, 26 March 2024 (UTC)

Oh, gotcha, the background. Try the following:
body {
    --theme-body-background-image: x;
    background-repeat: no-repeat;
    background-image: url(https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/fallout/images/1/16/Fo1_Cathedral_Townmap.png/revision/latest?cb=20110123024947);
    background-size: cover;
  }

The first parameter is to wipe the default setting from the Theme Designer, the other should let you set whatever image you want as background (just make sure to use the actual link to the image file, not the image page; I made that error so many times it's embarrassing. Let me know if you need anything else. Tagaziel 12:51, 27 March 2024 (UTC)

Dialogue export request[]

Hey J, hope you're well. I just wanted to ask if you'd be able to export dialogue for some more generic chars? There's quite a few so no rush.

  • FO3: Chinese remnant soldiers
  • FNV: The Tops cashier, Chairman, and gamblers (I know there's dialogue contained in VDialogueTheTops, if I'm remembering the quest ID correctly, that isn't anywhere onsite; there's probably some in the other casino dialogue quests as well).
  • FO4: Missionaries and initiates for the Pillars of the Community (I still need to make those pages tbh), robot (protectron/assaultron/handy/gutsy) dialogue for DN131 (Boston Common)

Thanks! FDSMDP (talk) 19:56, 31 March 2024 (UTC)

Following up[]

So, for the purposes of the skin, all you need are the link and background selectors? If yes, I'll have them for you tomorrow.

On the topic of the Fort Abandon document, I feel that if someone makes a formal request to retract it - I was asked to keep an eye out for these if posted and promised to address it - we should honor it. Especially if a member of our community in good standing and an active contributor wants to rectify what's a simple error in judgment. I know what these docs mean, and even if 22 years passed - I feel that we should honor such requests. Tagaziel 19:21, 3 April 2024 (UTC)

Also a heads-up for my favorite bureaucrat, we'll be getting a new main page today for the occasion of the TV series (by special request, no less), and I'd love to be able to use it as a jump-off point for a new and improved main page. Hit me up on Discord and I'll be able to explain a bit more about it. Tagaziel 08:49, 5 April 2024 (UTC)
One minor peeve to note, the redesign replaced the Nukapedia logo in the header and the browser tab icons. :/ Great Mara (talk) 22:18, 5 April 2024 (UTC)

RE: Contrast[]

Yeah, it seems to be pretty bad on light mode, but I figure they're still working on it. I use the dark mode most of the time anyway, and that one is working fine. LaymansReign (talk) 22:15, 5 April 2024 (UTC)

light-mode css fix[]

Hey, given Fandom's lack of responsiveness in fixing the various issues with the new theme using light mode, I cobbled together some quick changes to at least make the site usable for those on light mode. Can you implement these changes? I can't get any admin or higher to respond in the discord and people from outside the wiki community are starting to complain about the lack of usability in our new theme. See: https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/User:Gilpo1/common.css for the changes. Honestly, discord is the best/quickest way to get in touch with me if you have questions about this. It's not pretty, but it makes the site at least functional. Gilpo1 (talk) 15:04, 11 April 2024 (UTC)

J, Is there no way of implementing those css additions just for light mode? What about in the theme designer? Gilpo1 (talk) 16:54, 11 April 2024 (UTC)

Deleted files[]

Hello.

May I ask, why my uploaded files File:Fallout-boxcover-windows-ESRB.jpg, File:Fallout 2 tribal loading screen Foxtrot-Niner.jpg, File:Fallout 2 windows front cover.jpg got deleted? --winterheart 14:25, 14 April 2024 (UTC)

Edit warring user[]

Unbated has been repeatedly readding speculation to the Art deco sculptures page and refuses to heed the warning about speculation not being allowed on pages. Great Mara (talk) 23:41, 16 April 2024 (UTC)

Bringing your attention to this again because I’m not sure if it got lost due to subsequent message. Great Mara (talk) 19:28, 17 April 2024 (UTC)

Howdy[]

Hey there J, hope you've been holding up well with all the new coverage of the TV series. I've been really encouraged by all the new editors and our crazy amount of page views increase (over 200%!). I did want to quickly mention to you however that User:Eckserah has not edited since 2023 and would now qualify for a notice under the rights activity policy, if you're up to taking point on that again. Thanks. LaymansReign (talk) 15:05, 17 April 2024 (UTC)

Discord Request[]

Hi! I'm Elsa, a CM at Fandom. I sent you a friend request on Discord because I would like to talk to you about something. Let me know if you got it! Hypsoline (talk) 13:43, 19 April 2024 (UTC)

Patroller rights[]

Sure, I'd be happy to have the rights. I think I can be trusted to not vandalize the wiki by now. :)

I'm glad that ultimately the two wikis managed to re-merge peacefully and there is no bad blood over it (although I see that there's still some stuff in the archived Vault that could use importing to Nukapedia). Although from what I understand about recent events, MY wiki split turned out to not be the worst one in its history. JagoAndLitefoot (aka Ausir) (talk) 18:25, 26 April 2024 (UTC)

Wiki announcement[]

Hey there J, hope things have been well for you. Wanted to give you a heads-up that Anachorite is running for content mod rights, so if you'd be able to publish a wiki-wide announcement for it, that would be much appreciated. LaymansReign (talk) 17:14, 4 May 2024 (UTC)

Fallout Shelter 1.16[]

Hello. I wanted to ask, where did you get the icons for the new weapons and outfits from the TV series added in 1.16? DrakeyC (talk) 14:33, 6 May 2024 (UTC)

Ah, okay. Thank you. DrakeyC (talk) 16:42, 6 May 2024 (UTC)

FoTV Cathy and janitor[]

I don't know about Cathy, but the janitor is the woman cleaning the floor and saying "thank you" when Maximus throws the fusion core back in the shaft in "The Radio". JagoAndLitefoot (aka Ausir) (talk) 20:04, 6 May 2024 (UTC)

Found Cathy, she's the Vault 4 dweller that brings supplies for Lucy to take with her when she is sentenced to banishment. Benjamin says "thank you, Cathy" and Cathy replies "sure". JagoAndLitefoot (aka Ausir) (talk) 20:13, 6 May 2024 (UTC)
As an aside, I was surprised that they made a Dutch dub of the show, given that most Dutch people generally don't watch things that aren't cartoons with dubbing. JagoAndLitefoot (aka Ausir) (talk) 20:41, 6 May 2024 (UTC)
Subject 476 is the woman in the video recording, giving birth to gulpers. JagoAndLitefoot (aka Ausir) (talk) 21:37, 6 May 2024 (UTC)
Is the Dutch translation of the show any good, by the way? I checked some key bits and the Polish translation is pretty good (especially subtitles, the voiceover a bit less so). JagoAndLitefoot (aka Ausir) (talk) 23:14, 6 May 2024 (UTC)

FOTV characters[]

Sure. Cathy is the Vault 4 dweller who brings the supplies basket during Lucy's "execution" in "The Radio" -- Ben mentions her name. The janitor is a little later in the same episode -- she's the woman seen cleaning the floor when Maximus drops the fusion core down the chute.

On a similar note, there's also Gary from the beginning of "The Trap" (one of the filming crew in the commercial scene) who has a voice line but is not seen. FDSMDP (talk) 20:16, 6 May 2024 (UTC)

Commanding officer[]

The character questioning Maximus whose photo you added is High Cleric Quintus (played by Michael Cristofer), otherwise credited and first appearing in "The End". No character that would actually fit the description of "commanding officer" has any lines in the episode and we don't know what the actor even looks like (and he doesn't have any other lines).

It might be an actor that had some lines that were filmed but aren't in the final cut of the episode, who is one of the officers below the stairs leading to the clerics' seats. Or another credits mistake like with Anthony Misiano (given that it's this actor's only credit ever on IMDb). JagoAndLitefoot (aka Ausir) (talk) 18:33, 10 May 2024 (UTC)

Portals[]

It was a case of planning to do something and ultimately failing to do it. I've fixed it. And thank you :) Tagaziel 19:19, 10 May 2024 (UTC)

vote passed[]

hey jsp, my rights request voting period ended on the 11th, can you resolve the forum? thanks --Anachorite (talk) 21:35, 12 May 2024 (UTC)

Fallout: Factions[]

It's not a faction image, it's an image from Fallout: Factions. :) I just missed the colon (correcting). JagoAndLitefoot (aka Ausir) (talk) 18:21, 14 May 2024 (UTC)

Vote on rights[]

It's up! As per your feedback, I've added two voting options, one for 500 and one for the 1000 variant. Don't worry, I've got y'alls collective back! Tagaziel 15:44, 15 May 2024 (UTC)

Requesting Patroller[]

Hi Jspoelstra! I've been editing for a bit, and from the new forum vote, I now qualify for patroller rights! I would like to request them. :D AnalogBreakdown (talk) 17:50, 23 May 2024 (UTC)

Implemented :D[]

I agree that we should do a review in year's time, I support that 100%. Tagaziel 18:41, 23 May 2024 (UTC)

Running for admin[]

Hey J. I've just put out a request for administrator rights. If you could publish a wiki-wide announcement for the vote, it'd be much appreciated. Thanks! LaymansReign (talk) 22:16, 23 May 2024 (UTC)

FOTV cut content[]

I didn't put it in the "by game" category originally because well, it's not a game (the current category tree needs a revamp in general to accomodate non-game media). JagoAndLitefoot (aka Ausir) (talk) 16:04, 24 May 2024 (UTC)
