Greetings J!

I hope this messaage finds you well.

This message serves as my resignation. I do not even know which rights I have left but whatever they are please take them away. I am not planning on coming back.

A possible discrepancy with some pages[]

Hello there, I noticed that in this wiki's pages for Timeline and Cazador, that Cazador creatures were supposedly created in 2003 by Dr. Borous. The only source of this information that these statements from the pages rely on is a quote from Borous himself in game. However, it does not add up because: Borous would've had to be 25-30+ years to be experienced enough in his scientific profession to know what he is doing (as well as to spend years actually studying beforehand) which if he made Cazadors near the start of the 21st century, he would have been born during around the late/mid 1960s or early/mid 1970s. This would place him at slightly older or at 100 years when the Great War took place. The lore in Old World Blues' storyline is that the Think Tank scientists all preserved their brains in the Think Tank bots some time after the war took place, in order to continue their research, so a scientist aged over a century would not be very reliable to have as one of the people essentially running Big MT even before the war. The illustrated image of the Think Tank scientists when they were still humans depict them as middle to senior aged, so Borous "remembering" that he made Cazadors in 2003 has to have been an example of Dr. Mobious messing up the other scientists' perspective and memory. I think that it would make sense to remove the timeline page entry for this information.

About Susie[]

About two years ago, you changed Susie Mack's article to say she's the older sister, but the guide clearly says she's the younger sister, and then for the longest time, the article was confused, calling her both the "older" sister and the "younger" sister. I noticed you on the history mentioning that she's older due to... cut content and Pip-Boy reasoning? This goes against the wiki's standards, doesn't it? Official media should be more valued than cut content, as cut content often involves discrepancies. You're free to mention the discrepancy in the article somewhere, maybe in "Behind the scenes", but it really shouldn't be canon that Susie is older. Skorch (talk) 07:08, 14 January 2022 (UTC)

Re: Image[]

It looks like the old image was created from zooming in on the world object, it was not the best we have available. I uploaded the actual texture from the game files (/texture magexplosives.dds) which is smaller but sharper and less blurry. Hope this helps clarify. -kdarrow Pickman heart take her for a spin! 17:21, 23 January 2022 (UTC)

Re: Dialogue files[]

- FDekker (talk) 09:25, 1 February 2022 (UTC)

Re: Group conversations[]

I saw your message, these conversations are taking place in our Discord server. You need to become active there to stay up to date, I don't have time to relay each conversation, background, reasoning that the group comes to on each item. Looking forward to seeing you there. -kdarrow Pickman heart take her for a spin! 16:39, 5 February 2022 (UTC)

Editing user page[]

Hi Jspoel, regarding your edit of Rubbinmahbelly's user page, adding nowiki broke the infobox and omitted the image parameter. Next time just let the user know if there is an issue and offer your help in fixing it, but I would say allow them to do it, especially staff members. Hope you are staying warm and cozy in that wild weather going on! -kdarrow Pickman heart take her for a spin! 09:36, 19 February 2022 (UTC)

Disambiguation page[]

It wasn't discussed in the Discord, but if there are two or more pages with the same name they should have a disambiguation page, or an overview page. Simply redirecting to one page and not the other makes no sense in my opinion, if a user searches for Pipe gun we don't know if they're looking for the Fallout 4 or 76 variant. I didn't delete the image entirely, only removed it from the page. I didn't think to check if it was used on interwikis before marking it for deletion, I'll keep that in mind from now on. The Appalachian Mandalorian insignia 16:07, 19 February 2022 (UTC)

Unused images page[]

Hi Jspoel, I think the unused file page is still broken. The deletions earlier are still on pages (like Erin Moses and South Cutthroat camp). I am sure that you saw I did the same thing a bit ago on the camp page so don't feel bad :) Maybe the dataminers can help us make a new way to see unused images accurately? I can ask. -kdarrow Pickman heart take her for a spin! 20:34, 20 February 2022 (UTC)

Oh my gosh, it is no big deal at all. I restored a few requested, but explained it was the page's fault. I hate that page! -kdarrow Pickman heart take her for a spin! 22:04, 21 February 2022 (UTC)

Unused images page still possibly broken[]

Hey J,

We're still encountering a bunch of images that seem to have been deleted due to the unused images page not working as intended. Woods' dialogue[]

Hey J,

I just saw you re-adding the dialogue lines for **every** NPC that is **not** Corporal Woods to her dialogue transcript, and wondered what that is about?
I verified the lines spoken by her earlier, added two that were missing, and removed those spoken by Shin, Rahmani, Tally Lang, Cassidy, etc.

Imho, it does not make sense to have lines of other NPCs in her transcript.
Especially, since she only interacts with the player character, but not with other NPCs.

Please let me know your thoughts about this.

New Title?[]

Hey, I know I haven't left messages on someone's talk page in ages, but I was wondering about the new title of the wiki here. How did it suddenly become "Enclav Deep Lore Wiki"? It wasn't that misspelled title last week at this time. I was wondering if this was hacked or pirated or something, because of the odd-sounding name change (didn't sound like something the wiki team would come up with). If not, my bad. Leea (talk) 21:18, 1 April 2022 (UTC)

Mass Vandalism?[]

Hey Jspoel i was hoping you could peek at Fin's recent activity of deleting everything of Kdarrows upon her request. Lots of it looks like legitimate game info that I'd say is part of the wiki now, no? I'm hoping its not a real case of vandalism because it seems serious if so. Maybe the dmod in me is missing something? Appreciate it. Jon the Don -JBour53 (Talk to my consigliere) 07:32, 8 April 2022 (UTC)

Out of an abundance of caution, I've reported it to Fandom's SOAP team as well. Fingers crossed that it's nothing major.
intrepid359FO76NW Overseer4/8/22 [2:58am]
Since when is content in the user space considered property of the wiki? It is every user's good right to request their original work to be deleted. This is espcially the case for pictures depicting them, or containing personally identifiable information. Reporting me to SOAP, before even reaching out to me, is just incredibly impolite, and I am not appreciative of it. –FindabairMini-JSPnP LogoThe benefit of the doubt is often doubtful. 08:33, 8 April 2022 (UTC)
All admins on the wiki Discord, including yourself, were offline or away, leaving no one locally to contact for assistance. I saw no public note in the Discord indicating that this mass deletion would be taking place. I wasn't alone in my concern that one of the first actions a recently unbanned user took was to delete over 200 items on behalf of a globally banned editor. I hope you'll forgive me, but these circumstances were very concerning, and my options were limited.
intrepid359FO76NW Overseer4/8/22 [4:26am]
Well, I was present on the Discord while making those changes, so you are either uninformed or lying. And what kind of public note do you expect, am I to explain my every move when taking up administrative tasks? Furthermore, my first action was to issue a ban, followed by leaving a talk page message, and updating our staff rooster. And if you were concerned, why did you not reach out to me, on Discord or on my talk page, like Jbour did? You, of all people, should know not to lightheartedly use reporting tools when not 100% sure. –FindabairMini-JSPnP LogoThe benefit of the doubt is often doubtful. 10:56, 8 April 2022 (UTC)
I don't see the problem here. A user is allowed to remove content/delete from their personal pages, like blogs and user pages (talkpages are an exception, you need to archive those). And because Kate isn't capable of doing it herself, it's in her right to ask an admin to do it for her. I do believe she asked him to. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 13:07, 8 April 2022 (UTC)

The Commonwealth map should now include ALL location makrer. Both marked and unmarked. At least all those unmarked location available on the fallout wiki.
I noticed that in some cases the {{infobox location}} is reading Fallout 4 settlement (header) despite the fact that a specific location is just a plain Fallout 4 location. I left in depth notes on the {{infobox location}} talk page and on all location pages i came across showing discrepancies. Qrsr (talk) 13:12, 23 June 2022 (UTC)

Reroll and revive those articles which been deleted or ruined by Kdarrow[]

Greetings,Mr.Jspoelstra.

I'm a Fallout Fan and I started to use the Fallout Wiki since the 2016(When there were two wikis, the Nuka and the Vault, although I didn't have a Fandom account at that time).

Fallout Wiki was good back in the old days,I think the golden time of the Fallout Wiki was when the Nuka and the Vault was merged, until the Kdarrow came to the town(2019).

She ruined many articles with her edits, and when she became a bureaucrat, things began to go bad,she starting to delete and change the whole article to her own version, you can't even find the the old versions because she deleted them entirely, like the "Brotherhood of Steel Hierarchy"(I don't know how many people still remember the old version, but the old version has detailed introductions about the Eastern and the Western hierarchy also has tree diagrams about the ranks),and replaced with her own wrong and shrunk version(Lack of lancers which been introduced by Fallout 4 and the others). Some articles are worse, been totally deleted by her like the "New California Republic Army","Brotherhood of Steel(Eastern division)"etc. And some incidents before the war like the Sino-American War(Exactly, all of them were been deleted by her and redirected to the Resource War article, which was shrunk too). And all the other minor edits which I can't count.Even she's just in charge of the Fallout Wiki as a bureaucrat for two years, but those damages she caused were unprecedented.

Because of this, and as an old user of the wiki,I can't stand about all of this.So I was left about a year ago,try to stick with the old Vault Wiki(You can find some articles which been deleted or ruined when she's in charge here at there, although many of them were outdated already due to the Vault stopped running about three years ago,but there's no better choice). But that wiki was outdated and stopped running since it's merged with the Nuka.So days before I came back to the Nuka to find some Fallout 76 things, then I found the Kdarrow was blocked and the Nukastaff was reformed,so I think it's might be a good time to bring the Fallout Wiki to it's old glory, can you find some ways to reroll and revive those articles which been delete or defile by Kdarrow? This is an implore from an old user and a sincere Fallout fan.And please, choose the staffs carefully, don't just put some third raters on just because he/she has more edits visually.

Regards

Hi J,

Sorry for going the wrong way about things and asking Tag to re-enable the bot rather than coming to yourself. I don't have any further anticipated use for the bot beyond that one maintenance run, but it might be worth keeping it enabled if another request comes my way. Are you happy for the bot to remain or would like it deactivating and going through proper process if needed again? Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 20:21, 2 May 2022 (UTC)

Can do, it was one of the adjustments I made to the bot after being asked. I know some are 2 lines so I'll add an extra rule in and double check before running it. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 20:35, 2 May 2022 (UTC)
Found another 500 or so with the bot and cleared them up (meant to say last night) let me know if there is anything else. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 07:36, 3 May 2022 (UTC)

Template:Games[]

Looking at bot clearing the games template as it is sitting there doing nothing now Gunny has removed the variable and updated the forum archive. I've done some test changes with the bot to confirm we don't break anything and the changes don't leave extra lines, broken templates etc and we are looking good for that.

It is going to be running overnight because of the volume of changes so if something does go wrong (I'm confident it won't) block it or leave a message on User talk:Arhu Catdalor von Baconstick and that will stop the process in its tracks. I'll let a couple others know because you're on a similar timezone to me. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 19:29, 5 May 2022 (UTC)

I've reported the issue to them already, but if you make a quick edit to the page and save it you will see the Phlanx reason. You would need to take that word out, which wouldn't work from a wiki standpoint so I'll let you know when SOAP come back to me. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 14:26, 7 May 2022 (UTC)

I'll do my best to edit the old ones first and the newer ones last. Still plugging away at removing that games template and it's uses. I'm down to blog space and user blog space. There are something on the order of 500 or so pages that use it. I don't have perms to edit those pages and I'm not sure anyone with the perms is willing to make those edits. We're close to being able to remove the template, and I'd like to get this done. Ok, there's only a handful of links left that we can't fix. I think it's time to go ahead and delete the template and the doc to see if anything else stupid happens. I'm gonna comment out the code first to see if I see anything. I'll revert it back then. If I see anything bad, I'll leave it in the edit summary.TheGunny2.0 (talk) 00:51, 11 May 2022 (UTC)

(I see my attempt to be clever with the bot caused a few issues. Never crossed my mind people would be embedding the template in another template in personal pages. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 17:33, 11 May 2022 (UTC)

Less than 0.00009% of games templates then. I consider that a very reasonable margin of error. I think deleting will cause it to populate Special:WantedTemplates and Special:WantedPages because of those few pages that can't actually be accessed. Maybe we replace the content of the template with a notice so if those pages are ever available again we can see it and take it off? Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 17:41, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
I'm thinking keep it simple:
If someone put its on an article by accident it won't stay too long. Visual editors will see it straight away, source editors on preview or save. Of the pages left the only one it can be seen on is Help:Contents and only if you put ?redirect=no in the url (otherwise it goes to community central); the blog pages are beyond broken and don't load so we can't say it will look if Fandom ever fixes them. Hey J, I've re-added the files on China and a good chunk of deleted content, though it might need undeletion. I don't want to use my Fandom toolbox and exercise undue authority, so I'd like to defer to you in these deletions - unless you think this might be overwhelming and permit me to handle these undeletion requests. I could always just ask for Admin rights back, given that I never resigned as Admin (I was forced to leave due to abuse. I didn't really resign as BC either, since that happened under duress, not as a voluntary choice. I do not desire that position at this point, and you're honestly the most qualified and chill person to hold it).

At any rate, I'll defer to your judgment. Stay awesome, J-man. Тагазиэль 07:13, 12 May 2022 (UTC)

Hey J, are you able to move The Circle to “Circle of Steel (Fallout: New Vegas)”? “The Circle” is stated in game, “CoS” appears on their weapon in-game, and Avellone confirmed that they are an adaptation of the Circle of Steel that were meant to appear in Van Buren, and that Circle of Steel is their name. The page being called “The Circle” seems to be creating trouble for the reader. Thanks! The Greatest Savior (talk) 12:00, 12 May 2022 (UTC)

Content Restoration[]

Hey J, and thanks for restoring the name of the Circle of Steel page! I was also wondering if you could help me with figuring out some of the content restoration that the guys and I have been doing. We plan to start an official project on the wiki soon to restore as much of what was lost as possible, and to ensure that what we’re restoring is credible and valid information for the wiki. Right now I’ve been essentially winging it, restoring individual pages and event/conflict pages that were improperly turned into redirects with their information being lost, and usually one leads me to others. Being the ZAX you are ;) I was wondering if you would be in a better position to get a proper grasp on exactly what we’re missing, in terms of redirected pages, culled pages, deleted pages, etc. I know for one instance that the individual film treatment pages were all turned into redirects to the film treatment page, but it seems like a lot of information was lost in that transfer. Thanks so much for all you’ve already done, and here’s hoping we can get more good info back on the wiki! The Greatest Savior (talk) 13:03, 13 May 2022 (UTC)

Ok, I’ll definitely do that. I don’t have access to the deleted contributions, so if you could check those it would be great. Generally redirects were used in favor of deletions but I have seen a few improperly deleted pages. Thanks! The Greatest Savior (talk) 13:29, 13 May 2022 (UTC)

Now that functionality to move the old game discussion forums is there, I'm looking at highjacking that archived parameter in the forumheader template to create another cat and move old wiki discussion and votes to an archived cat and forum list. I'm also looking at splitting policy votes and rights requests into different forum cats, they're getting pretty clogged. It will make things much easier to find. If the template change works, the only thing it's gonna break is the old archived forums won't show up in the forumlist until we run a bot over them and make sure they all have the archived parameter. Let me know if you got any problem with this. If it don't work, I'll revert everything.TheGunny2.0 (talk) 20:53, 15 May 2022 (UTC)

OK, it looks like it's gonna work. I'm keeping the old cats in place so I don't miss anything until everything's moved. Problem is a lot of the forums are locked. I'm gonna need some temp perms do edit them, if that's possible. TheGunny2.0 (talk) 21:46, 15 May 2022 (UTC)
Yes, it's gonna get sorted. When I'm done, there will be a forum for active wiki discussion, active wiki proposal votes and active user rights requests. Only active ones will be listed on those forums. There will also be an archive of each. The existing wiki proposals and applications will cease to exist, as well as the archived one (had to create that one for technical reasons so i didn't orphan any forums). The benefit of this is it allows only active forums to be listed in the active portion and anything archived to be hidden from that list. When we do maintenance edits to the old forums they will no longer rise to the top over actual active ones. This is a huge benefit. Also, by separating out user rights requests from the policy votes, it will make it much easier to find old ones for reference. I'm trying to see if I can get the creationdate=true parameter to work, but I have not been able to. I'm going to keep moving the forums into archives, but there are a large number of locked ones. In order to finish those off, I will need temp rights. Once everything is moved properly, I will delete wiki proposals and applicaations and it's archive. TheGunny2.0 (talk) 21:53, 16 May 2022 (UTC)
Crap, I just looked at the cat you linked, didn't realize that was one i didn't create. It looks like that was manually placed on the forum pages recently. I will remove those as they won't be needed and that category can also go away. It looks like that category was created for the same purpose, but was a manual thing, rather than using the forumheader template properly. It only feeds Fallout_Wiki:Administrators_and_moderators/Forum_vote_records, so I'll fix that too. TheGunny2.0 (talk) 22:05, 16 May 2022 (UTC)
Status update: All the forums are recategorized and the main forum page is sorted. I think I have the different templates sorted too. I'm now working on removing pages from those 3 (yes, there were three) categories for user rights requests that didn't seem to link to anything at all and are now not needed. I think there may be two red links left over from that right now, but when I clear that last category, it should fix that. Almost done, I'll let you know when it's all complete.TheGunny2.0 (talk) 22:27, 19 May 2022 (UTC)

(Ok, I think I got everything. I saw you got those two user blogs, thanks. I checked all links and cats and I can't find anything orphaned. If something comes up, my apologies. Removing rights now. Thanks again.TheGunny2.0 (talk) 23:53, 20 May 2022 (UTC)

This is why i left this wiki, false claims. You are actively trying to make me look bad for something that should have never happened, a perm banned user should have never been allowed into the focus group, they were banned for a reason intrepid, and they were given a Special Privilege no one else has, they were treated specially, when they should not have. So stop. And a little note, maybe read the book before you make comments like this, To Kill a Mockingbird is a great novel, if you dont mind the heavy topics presented in the book.
And on another note, who did you recieve this complaint from. Thinking

Bot (again)[]

Hi J,

Gunny has asked if I can do a batch run across the forums to remove a category, but it will require Content Mod rights again. He said he might do it by hand as it is only 191 forums so might not be needed, but it might be good to give the bot 1 month temp as a standby for a big job anyway Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 19:04, 19 May 2022 (UTC)

No worries, if something comes up no doubt someone will ask if not me. Figured I'd ask the question as Gunny asked me as a might rather than a can for those. The only big jobs that happen at the mment I can think of is your multifile uploads, nothing else spring to mind and I've taken a step back from the focus groups so I've no idea if anything else is in the pipeline. Page restore request[]

Hello, I'm leaving a message to ask if you could restore the page "The Appalachian Brotherhood of Steel (video)" ? It appears to have been improperly moved to Fallout 76 trailer/Steel Dawn via a delete and creation of a new page, erasing whatever history that page had before. Additionally, the current titling is inaccurate, as the video is not a trailer for Steel Dawn - such a trailer does exist, but it is not the Brotherhood history video, which is a separate promotional video. Policy restoration[]

Howdy J, as you can see, I've started with the restoration of the policy pages to the last point where each one holds the voting in wording. I am doing my best to ensure the voted on wording is back in while retaining as many of the allowed grammar, spelling, link, and formatting changes as possible. I think it would be best to make sure this is advertised to as much of the community as possible. I've already made a /d topic. And I've asked that it be put in the overseer's desk in discord. Icons[]

No doubt you've seen the discussion on Module talk:Icons/data. I'm currently thinking once we know what is going to happen with the page it might be worth locking Module:Icons/data down to ensure amendments are discussed in advance of changing. With uses on over 22,000 articles (including templates etc) we don't know what we're potentially changing until it's changed and even then it could get missed.

Not looking for protection as of yet, just your thoughts. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 16:41, 2 June 2022 (UTC)

Patroller[]

Thinking about it, might be worth me having patroller to keep my template work out of the needs patrolling list as it will be a lot of fixing rather than actual content. Ideally I'd just go for content moderator so I can have that and drop them to my bot, but the way things are structured it's a hassle I can't be bothered with. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 18:18, 2 June 2022 (UTC)

Fair, I'd say for the next 6 months I'm going to be fairly active from a technical stand point with getting the templates up to modern standards. Most of it will be documentation, but I'll also be cleaning up the templates where I can make them load faster (mostly complex templates). For now I'm doing the bulk of the work elsewhere as I know how annoying multiple edits are so my actual activity here isn't going to be truly reflected for the time being. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 15:06, 3 June 2022 (UTC)

Ban Review for you[]

Hi J,

Got a bit of a heavy heart on this one, but I have a situation I would like you to review.

As you may know I've been looking at recent bans to see if they were applied under rules that weren't adopted/voted in correctly. I had tried to keep the scope of my review extremely narrow, just to if the ban was done according to those unvoted in rules rather than questioning the conduct of the admins at the time. However, one of the bans I've had a look at has raised so many issues that I think it needs your review.

The ban in question involves this user. Now I got to tell you, even with my bad memory, I remember this user. They are in two words "bad news". It is my personal view that the wiki is better off without them.

However, its not enough that we like the outcome, the reasoning has to be fair and within the rules. This ban I can only describe it as constructed, and is arguably rights abuse. As such, I don't think this ban should be allowed to stand.

The first issue is Katy citing behaviour on another wiki. That's not within our remit to ban someone for... As far as I can tell that isn't in either version of the rules. So we can strike that completely.

The second issue is that she's claiming to have banned for a server raid about 2 years prior. This appears to me to be constructing a reason to ban someone. I have a real problem with that in general, not in the least because because its stale, but because an admin when giving him a warning a week or so earlier suggested that he wouldn't have a problem from his past if he behaved, suggestin the past is the past.

This second issue is compounded by the evidence that Katy then links. As far as I can tell it doesn't say anything about a server raid, and is from again, 2 years after the raid. All it appears to show is that Laat was chatting with Leon, Sigmund and Gunslinger; I know Katy did not like Leon, so I do have questions about objectivity here... It just seems constructed and paper thin.

There's also questions about whether or not prior bans should have been used for escallation or whether or not they've been expunged, which would make the perma ban inappropriate.

I was thinking of suggesting that this might be looked at through the admin misconduct/disputed rights review process to ensure fairness, but I don't think thats going to work. Even if you could get 3 administrators right now, with laat, you're not going to get 3 neutral ones, so the policy is kinda broken here. Guess we didn't anticipate this when we wrote it.

I know this is the kind of stuff that you don't like dealing with, and I'm sorry to have to bring it up. If it were the old days, well, it would be the old days I guess. As much as I don't want this ban to be lifted, this sort of ban construction can't be allowed to stand either. What are your thoughts? Agent c (talk) 22:32, 2 June 2022 (UTC)

I would like to second a review of this ban, as for the same reasons that Agent c has outlined, I believe the ban to be unjust and an exceedingly unfortunate example of rights abuse. I would also note that the banning administrator is no longer an administrator on this wiki. The Greatest Savior (talk) 22:38, 2 June 2022 (UTC)

Hi J. Policy I'm refering to is This one, specifically the last paragraph. I know its an odd situation given Katy's not here to defend herself, but it might be possible to have someone advocate on her behalf to argue the ban decision was valid and she didn't absuse her rights; I think much of the user rights pool would gladly do so. I know that isn't ideal but As we can't ban her or strip her of rights but the panel could recommend lifting the ban I think the interest of justice issues are balanced.
In regards to the SaintPain option, I don't think thats the right way to go. The SaintPain rule is more of a parole process, its not an appeal of a ban that shouldn't have been applied in the first place.
I don't have any contact with Laat, nor do I care to; However, Savior DJ above might have a patth there and/or be willing to do so. Agent c (talk) 16:23, 3 June 2022 (UTC)
Worst comes to if you need a reach out, I do have access to Laat Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 17:38, 3 June 2022 (UTC)

Semantic[]

While trying to clean up the documentation and do some of the technical I'm struggling a little with the minimal semantic mediawiki we have in place. Would it be possible to have the "semantic administrator" permissions so I can dig in properly? Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 17:38, 3 June 2022 (UTC)

Thats annoying. I don't know if they are in the Content Mod group, but I know they are in the admin toolset and I'd rather avoid rocking that boat. Are you happy for me to ask Tag/Pie to apply the rights as they should have access and then admin if they can't? Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 17:46, 3 June 2022 (UTC)

--Mr Pie 5 (talk) 23:29, 3 June 2022 (UTC)
Added a bit of data tracking in to the {{Infobox person}} to show what personal data is on a page. Was some concerns about too much being added in on Discord so I'm trying to get an idea of what exists where and create an overview. We can then look at the true depth of a possible problem Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 10:04, 4 June 2022 (UTC)
The type propogation has been oddly slow (took all weekend) so I had to wait for that to complete before making any further adjustments. For some reason it didn't update the property type from Page to text and that is why you have the red links in wanted pages. I'm flushing through now so it handles those links as plain text instead of as pages. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 19:50, 6 June 2022 (UTC)
Change is still propogating, but we are getting some nice tracking data back. Hopefully the page links will be sorted soon. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 17:47, 7 June 2022 (UTC)

( Spoke to Fandom this morning because it was still showing as page rather than text and that is a caching issue, but they fixed the property now. Everything is still in the wanted pages, but will clear down if every page in the list is editing, even a no change edit will suffice. I'll work through them and clear as many as I can once I get home, clearing through the LinkedIn ones will do pretty much all of them and clear the other links down. Next time we do something with semantic the how it is implemented needs doing differently to avoid this happening again. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 10:07, 8 June 2022 (UTC)

Template Deletion[]

Would you be able to delete Template:ApprenticeChallengeTabber? Changes over the years have broken this that it would need a massive rewrite and C doesn't see the need to keep it around. I've unlinked it at his request and if he wants to fill in the section down the road I'm sure he will as the source items still exist. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 17:05, 5 June 2022 (UTC)

JCB Vote[]

Thought I'd drop a message as the vote is getting close to close. I know in the past a neutral bureaucrat would call a vote like this especially with how controversial it is proving to be, but there is only you right now and I can see people calling bias on your part if you declare it either way. Would it be best to get Pie to make the call to avoid any drama falling on you? Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 10:29, 7 June 2022 (UTC)

A few more forums[]

Howdy J, me again. As I wrap up this policy audit and finish off the forum work, I ran into a couple of old forums that seem to have passed, but don't seem to have been added to policies. I've already added that ones that clearly should have been added, and there's one more from waaaaaay back that I need to research a little more. But I also found this one: Forum:Capitalization in Infoboxes - time to follow our rules. At the time, we did not require a quorum of 10 to pass policy votes, that was codified later. So it appears this passed, and seems it was implemented in infoboxes. I just wanted to make sure before I added this to the policy page. Also, I have all those fancy forumoverview templates ready to transpose into the appropriate policy vote forums, but like before, most of them are locked. If you could grant me cmod again, I could get those transposed and finally have all the bits and pieces of our policy history clear and easy to find. No more trying to hunt down policies or their origin. Let me know about that forum, please. TheGunny2.0 (talk) 22:56, 8 June 2022 (UTC)

Ok, I figured out the image policy one that was added in 2010. It was removed by decree in 2012, so the only one remaining I have a question about is that infobox one linked above.TheGunny2.0 (talk) 12:12, 9 June 2022 (UTC)
Thanks, I'll add that bit to the policies. I will have a good chunk of time this weekend to go through those forums, so if you give me cmod tonight or tomorrow morning, that would work great. I should have them done in a day or two at most and then I'll remove them again. Frankly, though, to be honest, I'm not really sure why so may of these forums are still protected. It's going to make any non-admin doing maintenance edits a pain, kinda like me having to keep asking you you for rights to make these edits. The second option would be to give me something that allows me to unprotect some of these so we don't have to keep doing this. Your choice. Once something is moved to the archived category, I don't see much reason to keep anything locked. Nice doing business with you :P TheGunny2.0 (talk) 13:10, 10 June 2022 (UTC)
Ok, all set, took them off again. Thanks, J. I think that's about it for all the stuff I wanted to do on policy pages and forums. The only other thing I'm considering is putting all the reference formatting guidelines back on one page, it's kind of a pain to read all separated out, not sure if it's gonna make the page too long though. I'm considering maybe collapsing all those big tables so the page loads tighter. Not sure, I'm just not crazy about all those small subpages.TheGunny2.0 (talk) 22:31, 11 June 2022 (UTC)

Sunsetting Template[]

Hi J,

I've started sunsetting Template:Border-radius as it uses old CSS3 web standards for cross browser compatibility (all browsers support the border-radius CSS parameter and don't need the browser specifics per Can I Use) I've got 23 pages left, 4 in Morrigan's blogs which need doing manually and the others look to be behind locked pages:

They all need the Border-radius template substituting or a null edit to clear the Wiki's cache so they don't pop up anywhere. Once that is done it will be safe to delete. With it being a small number do you want to give me/the bot rights or just do the last bit yourself? Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 20:48, 10 June 2022 (UTC)

I see it, they just need {{Border-radius replacing with {{Subst:Border-radius and that will purge them of them template. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 21:22, 10 June 2022 (UTC)
Why exactly are we doing this? This is useful for people who do not know the css to do border radius. What is the point of sunsetting templates that actually get used? Also you can just do a purge instead of a null edit to clear the cache. It's in the menu next to edit. -Eckserah User Eckserah Head Dataminer 00:20, 11 June 2022 (UTC)

Duplicate arguments[]

If anymore come up in the list, let me know. The bot is doing the template merging, but I'm doing the parameters by hand. Fingers going faster than the brain problem really. Once everything is on the new version I'll move it into the main template and do a bot run so we don't have /Lua everywhere. its ever so slightly faster and works better in the Visual Editor than the original. I'm going to be coping a couple of Lua modules to the Dev wiki, Module:Icons, Module:Util specifically as I use these elsewhere and it saves me maintaining in multiple locations. Would it be of benefit to have the versions here point to Dev instead of being kept locally? It would mean that there is a skilled support pool that removes the worry of "if X leaves" that handles the day to day maintenance and improvements/additional functions are available everywhere instead of me jumping from wiki to wiki, the downside would be change requests would have to come via myself as the author for the module, but that should be rare for active code; be more if you want to do something new with the data through the module. The actual icons will continue to be maintained here so you won't lose any control over what gets shown on the pages. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 13:27, 13 June 2022 (UTC)

I've ported it out to Dev now, but I'll leave the version that is here as is. If there is an issue that needs me to look at it, my default will most likely be to merge it in to the Dev version as an initial fix. If there are a lot of code changes that will be a different matter though. No point maintaining what would functionally be two almost identical code sets. Mikeprichard1234 breaking category trees[]

User:Mikeprichard1234 is now edit warring over incorrect categories after being told the policy twice and being directly linked to the categorization policy. And I'm out for the next few days, I don't need to be chasing after two problem editors at the same time. Great Mara (talk) 16:22, 17 June 2022 (UTC)

I was waiting for this. Please do review the relevant history of the location pages for Fort Hagen, Fort Hagen Command Center, and Greater Mass blood clinic and talk pages for both of us; I've detailed the issues there, but as I've seen so often in the past, Mara's attitude is quite toxic and should please be considered by the administrators. My long history of edits to the wiki over the past couple years proves I'm not a "problem editor." This is passive-aggressive foolishness, and I'm also getting tired of dealing with it. Mikeprichard1234 (talk) 16:29, 17 June 2022 (UTC)

I looked at the history on Fort Hagen, and it appears that Mike simply restored the category to what it had been for years up until March 2022, when it was changed without reasoning provided. I don't see Mike's changes as any less valid. Hundreds of pages are being reverted to their prior forms in whole or in part right now, and Mike's edits are in line with that process. I'd encourage civil discussion on this matter.
intrepid359FO76NW Overseer6/17/22 12:14pm CT
Thank you, intrepid. And to take full ownership of what's happened from my side, I did fail (as I immediately then recognized) to see Mara's first response to my talk page, which did in fact provide some constructive partial direction. However, what has been extremely concerning to me is the process and attitude I've encountered here and in another incident last year. To recap: I made three identical related page edits (as intrepid noted, in line with the current structure of hundreds of other location pages as easily provable by anyone who samples those pages and the main Fallout 4 locations page). The edits were then reverted without any effort to reach out, and with only the note "already in that category" on one of the three pages' histories, which did not seem apparent to me based on reviewing the page or other similar pages I and others have edited in the past. I then responded through edits with more details (which I admit I should have initially included with the first batch of edits, although I had done so for a few other similar edits over recent months which were moreover clearly consistent with the existing wiki structure, and so didn't initially think such was necessary). My edits were then once again reverted, with a link to the wiki Categorization page, which once more did not address my explicit issue with the page structure and linking to the main Fallout 4 locations page.
Mara then immediately followed up with some "screaming" on my talk page, also calling me a liar, which obviously is unfounded, unprofessional, and unappreciated. This did lead me to use more direct language on Mara's talk page in terms of his lack of a "valid reason" for his reversions; although it was subsequently clear that Mara did have at least a reason for his initial reversions to my edits despite my initial assumptions to the contrary, Mara appears to have ignored my (I feel) equally valid points, while I do find the attitude displayed by this user to be toxic and unacceptable in any case. Morever, it's clear from Mara's talk page history that this user has a recurring history and pattern of abrasiveness and hostility with other users - I won't detail specific examples, but the record is there.
Bottom line - my own history clearly shows I've been (honestly) devoting my own time in a sincere attempt to improve the wiki for the community for well over a year, but the administrators' apparent tolerance of behavior like Mara's is making me seriously reconsider whether I should invest any further time and energy in the wiki given the hostile environment fostered by this user. I don't doubt that my departure would be welcomed at least by Mara, but I ask others with authority over the wiki to seriously reflect upon the priorities and direction this community seems to be taking when such behavior is accepted. Thank you for your attention. Mikeprichard1234 (talk) 17:43, 17 June 2022 (UTC)
Bottom line, maybe don't provoke a reaction and expect not to get one? For instance "reverting my edits for no valid reason" being a direct lie and slander to my face when you were given a reason for the reverts twice? And you think slandering someone to their face somehow isn't a toxic action on your part. And then you continue to break the categorization instead of looking into the problem without breaking the categorization policy? I don't want to hear about my "behavior" when you act like yours is no problem. I have every right to react to someone escalating like you decided to. I don't have to just sit back and take your crap. Great Mara (talk) 17:53, 17 June 2022 (UTC)
Once again (noting your passive-aggression with the mimicking of the "bottom line"), as both my detailed explanation above and the record show, I did not lie, and your repeated slander in this regard is increasingly unwelcome. I've also owned my failure to read your initial talk entry on my page and the unintentional inaccuracy of my claim as to you having no "valid reason" for your reversions (you did, but you also have ignored the history and my own clearly provided reason, as I and intrepid noted above), prior to your spitting bile there and now here. Meanwhile, you've arrogantly failed to own your own part in this, and continue to escalate a minor dispute over a video game wiki, which is frankly astonishing to me. In any case, all of this will be quite obvious to any reasonable onlooker here, so I'll leave it be and let Jspoelstra or any other appropriate wiki admin weigh in and spare them any additional fruitless back-and-forth with you. Mikeprichard1234 (talk) 18:11, 17 June 2022 (UTC)

( Hey guys, I'd recommend taking a breather for a bit while J reviews the situation. It's Friday, and it's basically illegal to argue about a wiki on Friday haha. Have a great weekend!

intrepid359FO76NW Overseer6/17/22 7:19pm CT
Ha, thanks again - and I just wanted to note I looked further into more location-type pages to see how categories are being handled in light of the current relevant wiki structure (including the main Fallout 4 locations page), and I think I came up with a solution to those Fort Hagen pages that should hopefully work for everyone. Without going into great detail about a separate but related issue, there also may be better ways to maintain the Fallout 4 "location" and "unmarked location" categories more broadly while still not "breaking" the relatively complete and organized info currently on the Fallout 4 locations page (i.e. causing locations either to not be listed on that page at all, or to be listed twice). However, that would likely require more discussion and a heckuva lot of category editing across dozens of pages; therefore, I won't delve into anything like that at this point. Anyway, have a great weekend yourself! Mikeprichard1234 (talk) 02:59, 18 June 2022 (UTC)

Feedback on my Editing Skills.[]

Hello, Jspoelstra! I'm ANZCANUS. I am looking for feedback on my editing skills and on the two user sandbox pages I have if they seem sufficient or seem like they would fit in as a mentioned location in a Fallout game. I am not looking to become an editor or a staff member, I just would like some feedback on these two pages.

User:ANZCANUS/Sandbox

User:ANZCANUS/Sandbox 2

Thanks and hope to hear from you if you have time. Kind regards, -User:ANZCANUS

Re: Review My Editing Skill[]

Thank you for your kind words. Unfortunately, those locations, Carroll County and Harrisburg are not mentioned in the next update, Expeditions: The Pitt. As a person who plays the Public Test Server I can confirm that and I made all of that up so therefore both sandbox pages are non-canon. That said, it would be really awesome for Bethesda to make a reference to Harrisburg as they could do like what I did and mention Three Mile Island. It would also be really nice for Bethesda to add more songs onto Appalachia Radio including The Carroll County Accident and others like Coal Miner's Daughter (perfect for Fallout 76), Top of the World (one of my favorites) and The Wayward Wind.

Thanks again!-User:ANZCANUS, Pitt resident

PS. I live in Pittsburgh in real life and am impressed with what Bethesda has currently done but I feel like they could do the reworks and improvements to Expeditions before September but, that's just my two cents.

AWB[]

Hey J, can you add me to the AWB list? Honestly, it's driving me nuts to type up each damn note manually, and it will take days to complete uploading the PTS content that way. Тагазиэль 14:54, 19 June 2022 (UTC)

Laat Ban Review Report[]

We have concluded our review of the permanent ban for TheLaatSurvivor and his secondary account, Laat the Survivor. We unanimously agree that the ban was not justified and, under the purview of this investigation, constitutes an abuse of rights on the part of a former admin. Our reasoning and recommendations are below:

Background and considerations[]

  • We first reviewed Laat's original 3-day ban, because this ban was extended to the permanent ban. It appears this ban originated when Laat was warned by The Dyre Wolf not to "mini-mod" (to act as a moderator without having moderator rights) on /d, because it was disruptive. However, Laat pointed out that he is a Discussions Moderator whose rights were inappropriately removed without reconfirmation on October 11, 2021. The rights holder inactivity policy didn't exist until November 7, 2021. Additionally, mini-modding is allowed under our policies. Since Laat's rights were removed in violation of Nukapedia policies, he is a moderator justified in moderating /d, and since the vote to ban mini-modding failed with 0 votes in favor, the warning was not supported by policy. Laat's responses to Dyre's warning were rude, so the board can't fault bleep for seeing the disruptive behavior and issuing the 3-day block. We also can't fault Laat for being upset: His rights removal was invalid. The warning against him was invalid. And Laat's very valid argument that a moderator can't be warned for invalid moderation was ignored. We do not feel that the 3-day block was strictly necessary, nor do we question bleep's decision.
  • The crux of the matter is the permanent block that followed. We have found no support for this block. The reasons given for his ban as well as our findings are itemized below.
  1. Laat was accused of posting provocative memes in /d. We find no support for this claim. There was one meme that contained mild political overtones and was quietly deleted for its political nature, not because it was offensive or provocative.
  2. Laat was accused of being "involved with" the "team" responsible for the 2019 wiki raid. We find no evidence for this, and simply knowing someone involved in the raid is not a policy violation.
  3. It was claimed that proper block escalation procedure had not been followed for Laat, therefore his block needs to be permanent. This is incorrect. All of Laat's prior blocks were overturned as invalid, ergo there was nothing to escalate.
  4. Laat was accused of attempting to remove rights holders on other wikis. Not only does Fandom allow for removal of rights holders on any wiki, our policies do not apply to behavior outside of Nukapedia.

Recommendations[]

  1. Given that every aspect of Laat's permanent ban lacks justification, the board recommends reversing the ban.
  2. Though the removal of Laat's rights played a significant factor in this ordeal, and we believe it should be looked into separately, it is outside of the scope of this board.

Toolkit Restoration[]

Hey, J, thanks for lifting my ban! I’m glad that this matter was resolved. However, this all started when my rights were removed without reason or notice prior to any policy relating to removal due to inactivity. I was wondering if you could reinstate them? The removal of my toolkit was completely out of line with policy and it would seem we only have a few discussions moderators patrolling our board. I hope you’ll take this all into consideration, especially since you’ve shown a large degree of integrity and fairness in such matters. Can you please as sitting crat mediate/resolve the dispute between Dire snd myself on the temporary discord vote. Better to fix this today than have a bigger problem in a week. I'll abide by your decision. Agent c (talk) 10:30, 21 June 2022 (UTC)

NCR military ranks[]

Hi there,Mr.Jspoelstra,it's been a while since the last time we talked.I'm really happy to see those pages which been deleted by the Kdarrow's unjustified actions been revived.

Recently,I'm checking the page of the New California Republic Army.I found there's lack of several military ranks within the "Organization"chapter, which been mentioned on the Boulder City Memorial: https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Boulder_City_Memorial, they're:Second Lieutenant(2LT),Master Sergeant(MSG),Corporal(CPL),Private First Class(PFC)and Tech Sergeant(https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/Reyes ,which been mentioned in the FNV's official game guide).Could you go check it and edit it when you have spare time?

Sincerely

RE: WhatReallyLinksHere[]

So due to the update for mediawiki the script didn't work anymore. I noticed it not long ago and have since fixed it and submitted the fix for review. Once that goes through then the gadget will work again. Shouldn't take too long though. -Eckserah User Eckserah Head Dataminer 21:05, 23 June 2022 (UTC)

Ban Reviews[]

Hi J,

Don't know if it got lost in the shuffle, but I recently did a survey of some recent bans to see if unadopted policies (ie- the oens that weren't voted on right) were used. You can find the result Here. Good news is out of the sample, almost all are fine, but they are almost overwelmingly advertising, spam, vandalism, and socks. There are a number I think warrant further review; there seems to have been a habit to mirror discord bans onto the wiki (which relied on an unadopted rule), a few that seem to touch on discord, and there's one for Skortch I think is unfair and needs to be considered for review. There's also a number I'm calling "amber" which are for things like edit wars, but they're over things that were parts of unadopted poliices (eg Canon). I hope you and the other admins take a look. File name policy[]

Hey J,

I saw you mention the file name policy when renaming some user page images. The only thing I can see when it comes to file names is in the image policy "Images should have a descriptive name, e.g. following the format [Game abbreviation][Content of image][Detail] such as FO76 Foundation signage.png." Could you possibly direct me to that part of the policy so I can understand? -Eckserah User Eckserah Head Dataminer 23:43, 24 June 2022 (UTC)

Dave’s Ban Review[]

Hey J, wanted to let you know that Devastating Dave left a message on his talk page asking for a review of his permanent ban akin to the review that was conducted for Laat’s ban. The Greatest Savior (talk) 18:25, 25 June 2022 (UTC)

I'd like to support a review of Dave's ban. The ban was excessive and unfair. The "insult" isn't even an insult. It was a comment about the people who reconfirmed him. I am one of the 10 people involved in writing his reconfirmation, and I'm not insulted. A permanent ban for such an absurdly minor non-issue isn't warranted.

Deprecated math tag category[]

Hey J, So I was informed that you had removed the math tag from some pages that were using it because it showed up in Category:Pages that use a deprecated format of the math tags. This category does not mean that the math tag itself is deprecated, it means that the format inside of the math tag is deprecated and needs to be updated. I added the description to the category directly from the extension's page. Do you know which pages you have been removing math tags from? -Eckserah User Eckserah Head Dataminer 17:54, 27 June 2022 (UTC)

Fallout 4 military checkpoints[]

Some of them are missing, which become clear when i created the power armor location map. I think it would be wise to start a little project for "unmarked locations" just for military checkpoints. Kind regards. Qrsr (talk) 12:43, 28 June 2022 (UTC)

Dave Review[]

Hi J!

There was a question about Dave's ban review that we'd like to get clarification on. Is the board of three rights holders working under this policy to review misuse of rights, or are they reviewing the circumstances and making a recommendation?

Going golfing[]

Hey, J, I formally present myself before the proper King of Holland/The Netherlands to request patroller status. Looks like the boys are gonna need a 3rd to fill out the tee time on Dave's review. And they said it's a private club that doesn't take riff-raff like me without some kind of fancy bauble or title. Does that mean they have to call me "Sir Gunny"? Might keep even keep it after, we'll see. I've got my mashie and niblick in the sock, and plenty of featheries. I'm a lousy golfer, so I'll probably need a few. Or you can just make me and Agentc crats again, be like getting the band back together. Just kidding, Mel would probably divorce Chad if you did that. Hope everything's going good with you. You should stick your head into my discord every now and then to say hi. <goes away lustfully singing "we are family...."> TheGunny2.0 (talk) 00:54, 29 June 2022 (UTC)
