Sunstone Tower Roof Gallery[]

Hi Jspoelstra, just wanted to say thanks for adding in a better image of Ulysses Spying. I'm playing on console, so could not remove my HUD, but was gutted that the little Easter Egg couldn't have been shown in the Gallery until a better version was available. Thanks again!

Tweezers[]

What was wrong with the "for" tag in Tweezers? Aya42 (talk) 19:11, February 13, 2018 (UTC)

Strange. I don't get autocomplete in the search bar any more. I presumed it had been disabled. Aya42 (talk) 19:20, February 13, 2018 (UTC)
Umm. No. I still use monobook... at least until wikia do another skin that uses the full screen width.
I don't recall this being an issue before when I did similar things on these pages...
Aya42 (talk) 19:44, February 13, 2018 (UTC)
I'll take a look at the wikia.css, but either way, I don't see how it hurts anyone to include the "for" tags in these cases, whereas omitting it might irritate the tiny fraction of users that still use monobook. It's not just about keyword searches, but also covers cases where a lazy editor has just put brackets 'round a word without checking it links to the right page. In this instance it serves a similar purpose to a disambiguation page, without the hassle of actually creating one.
Oh, and the Day Tripper does actually cover two different games, hence my adding that disambiguation page. Not really that bothered either way - was just surprised about the revert was all. Aya42 (talk) 20:29, February 13, 2018 (UTC)

Portals[]

Hi, I recently requested the creation of the portal namespace for the italian wiki but the staff told me they can't remove the margin on the right of the page (the wikia rail) so i removed it myself through CSS, but I was told it may be against the rules, so would you mind telling me how did you do it here, please?Roger555 (talk) 15:20, February 15, 2018 (UTC)

But you can edit that part in the portals here, how do you do that? In the ita wiki that's locked, you can only edit the main part of the page.Roger555 (talk) 17:28, February 15, 2018 (UTC)
The right rail, where there is the recent activity box.Roger555 (talk) 17:41, February 15, 2018 (UTC)
Then how do you add, for example, the game logo in the Fallout portal on the right and everything else after the <mainpage-rightcolumn-start /> tag? Do you know that? If I use the left and right column tags in the italian wiki, I have the page splitted in three, the two columns and the right rail.Roger555 (talk) 18:02, February 15, 2018 (UTC)
Yes, for now it works like it does here because I removed the wikia rail, but if I remove the CSS code that does this (like I should since it isn't permitted), the page appears like I explained in the previous message. Any idea how could I fix it? I mean the portal pages having only two columns, like it is now.Roger555 (talk) 18:44, February 15, 2018 (UTC)
I was wondering how could I have only 2 columns on portals, with the right one editable, without breaking the rules. I asked to the staff but they say they can't do anything. I'll ask The Gunny, it's a week he doesn't edit, is he active?Roger555 (talk) 19:08, February 15, 2018 (UTC)

( Right now, on the italian wiki portals, you can edit the right column only because I removed the right rail that appear in all pages through CSS, but this is against the rules. Usually instead, if you use the left and right column tags, the page get splitted in three and I'd like to avoid this. I disabled the code for the Fallout 1 portal and you can look it up to see what I mean.Roger555 (talk) 20:02, February 15, 2018 (UTC)

In any case, many thanks for try and help me. Let's hope The Gunny would know a way to fix this. Sorry for any grammar mistake i may have made and good editing.Roger555 (talk) 20:59, February 15, 2018 (UTC)

ExplorerSmaily[]

Is there some flag you can set on this user to mark their edits as auto-patrolled. Aya42 (talk) 12:33, February 17, 2018 (UTC)

I presumed the purpose of marking edits as patrolled was an indication to other patrollers that the edit has already been checked, so that the unchecked edits stand out clearly in RC. I've never seen a bad edit from ExplorerSmaily, and it's getting a bit tedious marking them all as checked. Aya42 (talk) 12:52, February 17, 2018 (UTC)
Sure. Just helps keep the RC list clean. FWIW, according to the this there is an "autopatrol" flag that can be set, although I don't see it on the list on this wiki. Aya42 (talk) 13:05, February 17, 2018 (UTC)

Old chat[]

I've had to turn old chat back on due to something I am doing in the api. Its probably going to take a couple of days, so I have asked the mods to keep an eye there as well for a bit. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 19:34, February 23, 2018 (UTC)

Much shorter than expected. I thought pulling all logs would take much longer than it did. We have a copy of the chat bans now, so if needed we can check without turning chat on and off in future. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 14:58, February 24, 2018 (UTC)

Re:Modded NPC[]

Ah, yes I did miss that, sorry. Had you mentioned it in the edit summary I would've noticed immediately, my bad for jumping to the conclusion that it may have been unaltered. And yes, I was referring to Willow and the dog appearing in the right hand corner, thank you for making the effort of altering the image to discard them. --Kryalis (speak) 16:45, March 1, 2018 (UTC)

Re: congratulations[]

Danke, I never thought I'd be here when I first started. Even now the only thought have is: what is next on this journey? I wish I had more time to spare for the wiki to edit (Recent changes has too much unpatrolled again), hopefully once Chad has what he needs for his sub projects I can give more time. I'm always keeping an eye on things still. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 13:56, March 12, 2018 (UTC)

Video replacement[]

I have another video that needs replacement in someone's blog post: User blog:Ausir-fduser/Honest Hearts trailer uses the (now-deleted) file Fallout New Vegas - Honest Hearts trailer HD, but I have reuploaded it as Fallout New Vegas Honest Hearts - Official Trailer. The reason for the reupload is that the now-deleted video was a freebooted one rather than an official upload. Could you update Ausir's blog post for me?
- FDekker talk 16:39, March 14, 2018 (UTC)

Thanks!
- FDekker talk 18:12, March 14, 2018 (UTC)
Could you do another one? This comment contains a now-deleted duplicate video. This video is identical.
- FDekker talk 17:34, March 15, 2018 (UTC)

──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── I'm not sure about merging categories into "misc videos" (yet). On one hand I think it will make the structure clearer (because of less clutter), but on the other hand it will make it harder to find videos by type. I'll take a look at it again once there are no more loose videos in the main category, but first I have a busy IRL week ahead of me.

Closed vote[]

Hi J, we have a closed policy vote outstanding. Do we need to get Gunny to call it as the only non-voting crat or am I fine to do so as it is policy change? Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 21:52, March 17, 2018 (UTC)

Covert Operations[]

I notice Fallout Wiki:Bug policy says...

Bugs that contain typos (i.e. misspelled or blatantly incorrect words), inconsistent dialogue (i.e. the subtitles phrase the response one way, but the actual voice acting deviates from said phrasing), incorrect pronouns (e.g. the player is a "He" but certain characters refer to them as a "She" and vice versa) are not notable.

Is there some reason that the Covert Operations one should be an exception? Aya42 (talk) 15:53, March 19, 2018 (UTC)

Just checked in-game, and doesn't seem to have been patched, as this edit suggested, so I'm okay with it staying in notes. Aya42 (talk) 16:29, March 19, 2018 (UTC)
Same on PS4. I guess the guy thought it was referring to the text on the magazine cover. Aya42 (talk) 16:40, March 19, 2018 (UTC)

The House of Tomorrow[]

Sorry, I thought it was better.Roger555 (talk) 23:45, March 25, 2018 (UTC)

For overview links[]

I know it's not great but the search function is quite bad and I think it's a good alternative to drive traffic to the lesser known articles. If you're looking for a William Something in Fallout 3 the search bar will only propose 6 results and it's often not enough for common names. It might not be a great template on popular character articles but I believe it is useful the real-world persons and when looking for a very minor character.

I think the issue with the search bar is that if there aren't enough articles that links to the disambiguation page William then the search engine will not rank the article William as a very relevant link for the search term 'William'. --YOD ᕦ(ò_óˇ)ᕤ 16:45, March 28, 2018 (UTC)

Woolum[]

Not seeing it in the wiki pages at the moment, but can't check my guide right now either. Revert was mainly due to them deliberately routing links through a redirect page. Great Mara (talk) 21:32, March 28, 2018 (UTC)

Edit IDs[]

What's wrong with having the edit id's of the perk mags on the pages about the perk mags? I've made sure to put the correct edit id with each issue. In the vanilla game you can't see these, but popular sorting mods use the edit ID number for the magazine number, not the perk number. Why can't the pages include the edit ID numbers? What harm does it do to include this info that's helpful to some people? --Demonofsarila (talk) 20:28, March 29, 2018 (UTC)

Editor ID's[]

We were actually bouncing around the idea of having the editor ID's in there on Discord a little earlier, but I wanted to wait for you to come back to us first (as you had been messaged about them.) We agreed having the Full ID e.g. PerkMagAstoundinglyAwesomeTales02 would be worth having, but not the numbers on their own, just to make it more useful. Maybe we can blend it a little so the first part is somewhere specific, then just have the numbers in the table? Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 14:46, March 30, 2018 (UTC)

Tooltip works fine for me. Its a bit off on mobile, but tables in general are though. I'll leave it to your discretion on this one, you seem to have a plan in mind already. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 15:09, March 30, 2018 (UTC)

CC paint[]

I've just been working through the hellfire power armor paint schemes and noticed that the faction paints use the base game globals to switch the availability of the schemes. Would it be worth making a note and adding the screenshots to faction paint scheme articles, as there is a definite link? Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 15:34, March 30, 2018 (UTC)

Lee (Fallout 4)[]

thank you for the catch! even though, it has been a year, lol. I have more interview material, this time on Chris Avellone and his thoughts on the Fallout Bible and his wants and desires in the subject. The interview was more about Obsidian's new title, but i had to ran through a common ground subject that he could better talk about to break ice so he could talk about the new title with me. In general, it is 'non-essential' interview materials, these sections are also called extras that cant be credited or used for the subject at hand. But! i still have the info ready to go if you wish to throw it up!

Template bug[]

Hi J, good to see you around.

Do you have an example page for me to look at? I have a feeling it isn't the template, but something Fandom has done in the background, if it is what I think it is. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 15:33, June 9, 2018 (UTC)

Exactly what I suspect it is. It's the same thing that broke the {{T|Games}} template. : Fandom have applied a lazy load to all images, so they don't load until visible in the viewscreen. It's a nice idea in theory, when you have complete control of the content, but when you don't it's going to cause bugs like this. Looks like I'm going to have to undo their work again. Can you check it out on the game without any mods? [[User:MatthewOne|MatthewOne]] ([[User talk:MatthewOne|talk]]) 15:31, June 15, 2018 (UTC) I tried it on the official game with only the official patch. [[User:MatthewOne|MatthewOne]] ([[User talk:MatthewOne|talk]]) 17:28, June 15, 2018 (UTC) Fallout gamepedia states the quest was cut from the main game while a Steam thread states that if you take the quest to bust the Skulz, the ending of Save Trish will be overridden as it will become part of the Skulz quest. I'm going to try to do approach it again with different paths - first, without acquiring busting the Skulz quest and second talking to Saul before Trish. If it doesn't help, it's clear that either the quest was cut or bugged. Based on the MSG file, it appears that the quest did exist originally. [[User:MatthewOne|MatthewOne]] ([[User talk:MatthewOne|talk]]) 17:42, June 15, 2018 (UTC) ==Save Trish not available== I've tried all possible ways, but nothing changes. You get no XP or thanks for killing the Skulz or Neal killing them. The quest seems to either be bugged or was cut. I'm guessing the latter because her dialogue never changes. Even if you later talk to her in her room in Crash House for the first time later, she will not recognise you as the one who was at the bar. Her MSG file however did have such a dialogue where if you talk to her at Crash House, she recognises that you were at the bar. You should change the article [[Save Trish]] into cut content or simply state that the quest isn't available in-game. Also, do this on other articles where the quest is mentioned. [[User:MatthewOne|MatthewOne]] ([[User talk:MatthewOne|talk]]) 18:26, June 15, 2018 (UTC) I've also found that the article [https://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Save_Trish?oldid=1872689 originally said] a fight occurred after Neal shot one of the Skulz. Energy X later changed it to Skulz walking away even though the quest is never triggered. In the game the Skulz walk away no matter what unless you attack them first. Even if you attack, the quest won't be triggered. It is clear the quest was cut. [[User:MatthewOne|MatthewOne]] ([[User talk:MatthewOne|talk]]) 18:41, June 15, 2018 (UTC) I did it myself. Apparently you get a message that Vault 15's medlab is looted and its equipment damaged. But I didn't. try and see if you get the message. Make sure you either avoid or kill all enemies before entering the area. If you are in combat while near or in the relevant area you're supposed to get the message for, you won't get it. I know this, because I got into a fight with molerat at the door near the locker of Vault 15 and didn't get the message about the locker on east side similar to your own vault. [[User:MatthewOne|MatthewOne]] ([[User talk:MatthewOne|talk]]) 14:42, June 17, 2018 (UTC) The medlab is always on the first level near the entrance in Fallout 1's vaults, it's the room with the bed. [[User:MatthewOne|MatthewOne]] ([[User talk:MatthewOne|talk]]) 15:46, June 17, 2018 (UTC) There's only two other vaults I think - Vault 12 of necropolis and Master's vault. I'll try on them. [[User:MatthewOne|MatthewOne]] ([[User talk:MatthewOne|talk]]) 01:06, June 18, 2018 (UTC) == Vault 75 == Ok I'm currently playing fallout 4 and I am finding all bobbleheads. The card didn't spawn on the commander but it did spawn in the red tool case next to commander body in the combat simulation area. I didn't know really who to tell but this is where I found it on Xbox one. The second was found on a Gunner in the room with bobblehead. == Vault 13 medic == You are supposed to get stimpaks and chems from the [[Vault 13 medic]] after reportedly passing a speech check. [[User:MatthewOne|MatthewOne]] ([[User talk:MatthewOne|talk]]) 20:41, June 18, 2018 (UTC) It most certainly exists as I got it before. I'm having a bit of a problem trying to find the specific effects for the Fast Shot trait in the FNV GECK. Specifically trying to find the coding for what weapons it affects. I can pull up the perk but it only seems to show the effect calculations and the scripts for having it added through the initial character setup and the Old World Blues Auto-Doc. Is this something specific to CC items or something that will be applied to other items?<br />And for future planning, if I'm understanding your plan (and I very well may not be), overview only list pages like this may cause problems when/if we start using Semantic tagging (I assume you have some knowledge of Semantic wikis and this makes sense, if not I'd be happy to explain). Admittedly, looking over some of the stuff that got added since I last used Semtantic wikis, it looks like [https://www.semantic-mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Adding_subobjects subobjects] ''might'' counter some or all of the issues, but I confess I'm having some trouble understanding it this early in the day. And since I like to think I'm not too far below average intelligence, that means it might be a bit of an issue for at least some of the other editors.<br />Anyways, I was going to start adding the info from the items, but if you want it done differently, then I'll hold off. -[[User:Caraamon|Caraamon]] ([[User talk:Caraamon|talk]]) 17:59, August 4, 2018 (UTC) :: So the way the base Semantic wiki works is that on a page, you'd added a tag in the form of <nowiki>[[tag::tag value]]. So for example, on the page Beer, you might set the tag [[has food type::alcohol]] or [[has value::5]]. The huge advantage to this is that you can build the data setting into infobox or other templates, and then on overview pages easily write up a piece of code that says "Show all items that have type alcohol, display it in a table, and list the associated values, weights, etc." And since it pulls data directly from the item pages, if a change needs to be made, it can be made to the item page, and the chart will change itself.
However, the problem with this is that the base wiki only allows three pieces of info, one of which is automatically set as the page name that has the tag code. You could set, for example, the overview page of coffee to have [[has list item::cappuccino]], but there's no easy way to associate any traits such as value or healing amount with the cappuccino, they'd all end up tied to the overview page. It would be possible to do a run around, such as on the overview page putting [[cappuccino has value::123]] but this, among other issues, would require creating large number of one use properties for each item, which would create a large clutter.
Now if I'm reading it right, the subobject function allows setting up group traits, which it says in essence is like setting up phantom pages, but I still need to actually try it out to confirm it actually works the way I think, and I'm not sure it's very user friendly. That being said, templates in theory should make the user problem better.
Hopefully that explanation is actually coherent. If you want, I can post you an update if I figure things out, assuming no one beats me to it. -Caraamon (talk) 21:21, August 5, 2018 (UTC)
Okay, so after doing some testing, it looks like subobjects would work. It would require a bit of effort to set up at first, but it's entirely doable.
Whether it's individual pages or subobjects depends on whether or not you (the admin team) want people to start investing effort into Semantic projects. I'm certainly willing to put the effort in, but the overall choice seems above my paygrade. -Caraamon (talk) 22:14, August 5, 2018 (UTC)

Semantic project question[]

Okay, so I'm getting prepared to start working on the Semantic stuff, at least part time. I have some experience with this so it shouldn't too complicated once things are planned out, it's just labor intensive. To give you an idea of the scope of things, the following things need to be done:

  • Making tag names for properties like value, HP, weight, damage, location, etc. Ideally many properties would overlap games, such as health/HP, base damage, etc, but some may need to be created for special cases. This is probably one of the larger pieces.
  • Editing existing templates to apply those tags automatically when possible. The only issue I could see cropping up is if any of the heavily-used templates are protected.
  • Writing new templates to allow people to easily display information based on tags, such as dynamic tables.
  • Writing new utility templates. This would cover things like streamlining the subobject process that I mentioned previously, and things of the nature.
  • Adding any new MOS sections to the rules and standards articles.

So while I could spend the next couple months doing it all myself, I'm going to assume that other people will eventually want to jump in. I'd be happy to write up a page outlining what needs to be done and suggest some standards for things like naming, but I don't want to just assume I have the authority to grab control. How does this wiki go about coordinating big projects? -Caraamon (talk) 05:26, August 6, 2018 (UTC)

Fair enough. I'm a huge fan of Semantic stuff, but I can absolutely see why it might be decided it's not worth the effort. Basically the system is really good at storing groups of data and then allowing other pages to pull that data and display them however they want. Here's some examples of things that could be done:
  • As mentioned previously before, we could do things like maintain food items without a ton of data all on one page, while still making it available to display on other pages.
  • Store data for various weapon mods on the weapon page, then display that data other places. For example, you can store the info for the "standard receiver" on the assault rifle (Fallout 4) page, and then have the standard receiver page pull data from every weapon with a standard receiver mod. Or if you prefer you could do the reverse, with the data sitting on the mod page and the weapon page grabbing and displaying the data.
  • Dynamic timelines, where the code would basically search the site for every event that happened in x year.
There's tons of other things that I could suggest, but they pretty much just boil down to reducing duplicate information to one place and then being able to display that information on the source and other pages in a variety of ways. Despite what it may seem like, manipulating the data is not too much different than writing any display template and I can't right now think of anything that would be nasty enough that it couldn't be handled by the slightly more experienced people writing templates that others can apply (in the same way that infoboxes might be too complicated for the average user to write, but putting them in and filling out the fields is pretty simple).
Give me a bit and I can show you an example, though it will be slightly messy. -Caraamon (talk) 17:21, August 6, 2018 (UTC)
Okay, so I set up an example group of pages: User:Caraamon/SemanticTestPage, Template:SemanticTestPage, and added a small chunk of data code to Short barrel and Long barrel. This is a pretty simplistic setup, but I hope it gives you some idea about what could be done. While the return on effort for the existing Fallouts may be low since a lot of the display tables are already created (though it would help with the maintenance), I'd bet a big payoff would come from Fallout 76 articles. Imagine people plugging data into the new pages, and almost magically the overview articles would construct charts and displays that matched, all without anyone touching them.
That being said, I did find an odd quirk that I've never seen before, which I mentioned on the Template talk:SemanticTestPage|talk page. It's probably about even odds whether it's actually something weird or something blatantly obvious that I've missed, so I'll keep plugging away at it. -Caraamon (talk) 20:36, August 6, 2018 (UTC)

Retirement[]

Hi J,

This is something I'd never thought I'd be considering, but as of today I am retiring as both Admin and Bureaucrat. The reason for it is very personal, but in short I have lost my drive completely.

I hope from this one act I can find my way again. I wish the wiki the best and I hope it can sail the storms and remain as great as it has for the time I have been here. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 13:56, August 7, 2018 (UTC)

Fallout 2 companions - race[]

Hi Jspoelstra,

I would like to add a new column "Race" for the table "Permanent companions" on the page "Fallout 2 companions". As I've seen you have reverted the change I've done.

Without bad intentions I would like to ask you why the column "Race" doesn't fit in?

In my opinion it's a good way to let players know what kind of companions they can get in the game.

Because I think it's a waste of time to patrol his edits. From what I understood in this forum the interwiki rights thing is something we grant to users to reduce the amount of edits we have to patrol, so I don't think it makes sense for them to have to apply for it; after all, they do not get any benefits.

Image categorization[]

Hey Jspoel, long time since last time we spoke. Anyway, I'm not certain what category to put those FO2 images you've uploaded in, could you take a look at it? Here. Best regards, DisgustingWastelander (talk) 15:11, August 15, 2018 (UTC)

I'm doing fine, just all of a sudden lost motivation to edit this year. Hopefully the release of FO76 will lure me back in, provided I am not too busy with other things. But I suspect you'll manage just fine with or without me ;). I did notice your absence a few months ago, so it's good to see you're back at it again. Oh, that's pretty harsh. Very glad to hear you're doing well. And I do agree, we need active editors. I have heard rumors of what happened when FO4 was released with very few admins helping out. Let's try to avoid that this time. It's a real shame Saka left, we lost a good editor and friend there. Hopefully he will return at some point. I do see much potential in Jgrsoto he seems like a very nice guy and a good editor. Plus, the majority of anonymous users are here to help out too. CC to DLC ID[]

I'm confused why you changed CC ID to DLC ID on the Classic 10mm pistol article. It's from the Tunnel Snakes Rule! CC purchase, so I'm not sure why it would be using a DLC ID. Here's the edit I'm referring to. -Caraamon (talk) 18:53, August 18, 2018 (UTC)

Okay, so I'm going to show my ignorance a bit by saying that despite having seen CC IDs listed as fe0xx I'd never actually paid much attention to where it was coming from. All I'd really ever looked at was the IDs in the Creation Kit and they are all in the form of xx000xxx, with the first two being the load order and the last three being the item code, there is no fe0xx anywhere. So, I just now spot checked a few of them using the ingame HELP console command, and only some of the CC purchases use the fe0xx code and some don't. For example, Hellfire armor and Coffee and Donuts Workshop Pack do, Tunnel Snakes Rule! and Noir Penthouse do not. Looks like it's not nearly as consistent as expected, and the difference can't be spotted from the CK. I'm not sure whether this means people will have to alternate between using DLC ID and CC ID, or that CC ID should be rewritten to encompass and explain both possibilities. Thoughts? -Caraamon (talk) 00:54, August 19, 2018 (UTC)

Claim Jumpers image[]

Hello Jspoelstra, I have a question concerning the image concerning the title of this message. I have come across an image for the Claim Jumper's page, however, the image seems to be a cropped version of picture used by "The Vault" wiki. Would it be against rules to use this image as it looks to be a cropped from their site's image, or would it be better to gain one from the the game itself? The only concern on my end is that I do not own the game at this time therefore I have no real way to gain it other than use of Google and various searches, or finding someone with the way of getting it, such as yourself.

Anyways, I await your reply. Thank you!

Getting in touch with Digital Utopia[]

Hi, I'm currently contemplating the idea of tossing my time towards completing the job user "Digital-Utopia" put into mapping the games in ultra high res (the user I'm talking about: https://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/User_blog:Digital_Utopia ; his website: https://digital-utopia.org/ ). I need some technical advise from him to speed things up and possibly some assets to continue where he left from. Currently there are a lot of areas that are not available in ultra high res (for example, all of the DLCs from Fallout 3 and New Vegas). Strangely most maps are there, but the leaflet js version is not.

I also have some other ideas to further expand his work. I can't contact him. I was wondering if you as an admin had access to any better communication channel to chat with him, maybe you have him on twitter or what not.

Bottom line, as I think you've noticed I'm new to this community; I fell in love with the idea of this project and that's the thing that has brought me here. I would be happy to start contributing by using my technical know-how in this particular area.

Edit - In the meanwhile, I'll just ask you, in case you know: most maps that are missing from DU's website ARE present on the wikia page, such as this one https://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/File:Fo3_Point_Lookout_map.jpg
They are not implemented in leaflet js and are not super high res, but they seem indeed to be the result of DU's work of taking snaps of the orthographic view from the GECK. Where do they come from? Maybe the person who originally took them has still the raw material and\or the tools he used to speed up his work (DU's mentions in his blog that he had to create a special workflow to make the screenshot process somewhat viable). --Xevidroid (talk) 07:23, August 25, 2018 (UTC)

After going through the code properly it looks like it needs a full refresh. I've finished spinning out the root of Gamearticlelist to this end. It's a very small part of the box and is only used in the one template, but it will make work a lot easier. I still need to write CSS fallback for Internet Explorer in, but apart from that it is ready to go. Once that has been removed, I'll be able to see where I'm going from there. Duplicate Fo4 Armor/Clothes Images[]

It's been a while since I contributed to this community here (sorry!) but I was recently reviewing the Fo4 Armor sections (which I did some work on back when Fo4 first came out) and noticed that many of the photos I uploaded are not being used - they were originally uploaded with the dirty background and you told me you preferred to have transparency on my talk page, and your talk page.

I understand that you later went through and had transparent versions of the images made - but you uploaded these images all as new uploads, rather than using the Upload a new version of this file option at the bottom of the image file pages, which created almost duplicate images. The images you uploaded that are currently being used on most of the armor and clothing pages now don't have a file history that dates back to the original user(s) who uploaded the photos, essentially making their work obsolete. For example: the File:F04_Formal_hat.png has the file history of the original uploader User:Demonicchin and the file history of when I updated the image to a cleaner format, but now the file is no longer used because you uploaded a brand new File:Formal hat.png rather than just updating the image. Since I was originally going to add the delete tag and request the duplicate be deleted, I realized that if I delete the originals, the original users who put in the work before you will have any trace of their work deleted, and if I ask to delete yours (as well as update the originals with your copies to keep the original file history, and update all the links) all your cited work will be deleted (and I'd be accidentally claiming credit for your work by uploading your images to the original files).

I don't want to have duplicate images on my gallery that aren't used anywhere but in my gallery, but I don't know how to remove the duplicates without deleting the work that either one of us (and other users) have done. Was there a reason why you uploaded brand new files of what already existed, some sort of policy I don't know about? And, what would you suggest to solve my duplication dilemma?

Bureaucrat Gap[]

Hey JS,

With Gunny stepping down we are currently down one Bureaucrat as Clyde is still inactive. I've been keeping an eye on things in the background, as real life has me running in circles. That said, with the approach of Fallout 76, having only two active BC's may become a straining issue. If it comes to it, I will step forward to fill the position. It's not something that I really want to do at this moment in time, but this close to a release we need all hands on deck. ---bleep196- (talk) 19:56, September 20, 2018 (UTC)

I think we partially shot ourselves in the foot with the rather large number of people we removed rights from right before Fallout 4 was actually announced, and it hurt us at launch. With Fallout76 drawing closer, I'm going to make a more conscious effort to be around the community, and attempt to pick up my activity and editing. The past year has been difficult due to real life, and a full-time job which eats away most of my time. Hopefully, I can carve out more time to be here, and not just be on the periphery. ---bleep196- (talk) 20:50, September 20, 2018 (UTC)

New User Network[]

Bug Pages[]

Hey JS,

As soon as I finish clearing the bugs with overdue verifications I'm going to descend upon the bug pages for each game and add-ons. To keep me from losing my mind while editing these pages, i.e. the potential for edit conflicts, I'm going to lock all the bug pages, and then work my way through them. Once I finish with a page, I will unlock it for editing again. These pages might take some time to work through, they have been poorly maintained, so I wanted to give you a heads up beforehand. ---bleep196- (talk) 17:56, September 21, 2018 (UTC)

Oh verdorie, ik ging ervan uit dat pagina's in subcategorieën zouden meetellen, maar ik zie nu dat dat niet zo is. Ach, het was in ieder geval een goede oefening voor later.

Coming back to see my profile page after 6 years of not editing is really making me feel...gross and cringey. I just want it to be gone. --184.102.127.6 13:41, September 27, 2018 (UTC)

Wanted files[]

How curious, I would have thought Fandom would be smart enough to not have wanted files check that namespace. I'll see if there is something I can do to trick it into ignoring that. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 17:41, September 27, 2018 (UTC)

Behind the scenes[]

While I agree that behind the scenes references can be interesting, there was, quite frankly, a lot of garbage in there. Different contradicting pieces of speculation akin to weapon speculation and sometimes just nonsense. So it sure needed cleaning up. On the other hand, I agree that we should be careful not to remove too much, so whenever I'm not sure I ask others in the Discord channel what they think. I make sure to write an edit summary explaining my decisions to allow non-Discord users to contest the decisions. I don't think there's a better, feasible procedure we can take.

Template update[]

Hi J, hope you're having a good birthday (a certain someone tipped me off).

I'm also there with the navbox template now, I hope to be in a position to get that that in by the end of the weekend. I took a bit of time out to optimise {{SPECIAL}}. By default, it operates exactly as the old template (with out the split by parameter as nothing used it.) And added some new functionality at Dekker's request. It also means we can manipulate the template more to give infoboxes better presentation, while keeping the original format for article uses.

I've set the default to the current format and done extensive testing, so you shouldn't see any issues arising from the change, but let me know if something doesn't seem right. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 14:04, October 8, 2018 (UTC)

I thought I'd caught that error when I saw it last night, I've changed the way the module checks for content, so it now does nothing if the length of the title parameter is 0. I actually agree with you about the Icons, to a degree. Where you have the content as a string, it works nicely, but when I tried to arrange the stats in a table format (to make it clearer in an infobox, it wasn't too happy. I can always integrate it as part of the original format and do something else for the table format, if that would work better? Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 16:23, October 8, 2018 (UTC)
I got a few viewpoints, including Richie, and there were objections to the icons when it was being designed (those icons also slow down page loading the more there is). I'm more than happy to move back to the icons, and present it in a forum for opinions to be cast.
Navbox isn't out of mind, the code is cleaned up, just the collapse integration that needs some more work. Would have been ready sooner, if I hadn't spotted that something I was going to strip out is required in a small number of articles. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 16:54, October 8, 2018 (UTC)

Would it be possible to get some temp admin access? I took another look at the navbox (now I'm back home) and I need to make a couple of CSS changes before moving forward again. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 11:48, October 10, 2018 (UTC)

Thanks again for that. Done what I needed to, but for now I need to go back to the drawing board. Things are slowly falling into place. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 19:01, October 10, 2018 (UTC)
With Fallout 76 incoming I've decided to do a partial fix, by adding the lua module I was working on for it. I've had a look around and I can't see any issues and the main box is collapsing now. If you spot anything out of place, just revert the navbox template and let me know, I'll be working until 10PM your time, so it will have to be after then or the weekend.
Also, I have a replacement template for {{Icon}} in development, it is independent of {{Abb}} and multiple icons can be called with a single template, it will load pages a little faster. I think the bugs will get the most use out of it once {{Platforms}} has been integrated. You can see a working copy at pt:Usuário:Sakaratte/Icons. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 09:26, October 12, 2018 (UTC)

( You're welcome. I noticed you had a script error relating the special template on a userpage. I'll drop a bit of error handling in when I get home. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 18:14, October 12, 2018 (UTC)

What I'm planning to do is stop those kinds of errors populating again. What is was doing in both cases is seeing an 8th value, but as there is no 8th value in the module tables it causes it to fail. I'll also set it to default to 0 where a value has been missed too. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 19:05, October 12, 2018 (UTC)

Top Navigation Bar[]

Hello! I noticed that Fallout 76 was still not in the Navigation bar. Since the beta is starting soon, do you think it may be appropriate to move FO3 into 'Classics', move FO4 to Fallout Games, and put Fallout 76 in it's place? Pinkachu (talk) 18:48, October 9, 2018 (UTC)

Maria Chavez[]

I just noticed an anon made a page for Maria Chavez. I was just watching some footage online where a player took a note off of a dead responder from Maria Chavez. She sent him to 'make the monthly scouting run to Vault 76' but he obviously didn't make it. Are Maria Chavez and Maria (Fallout 76) two different people? Pinkachu (talk) 19:09, October 12, 2018 (UTC)

Ok. I uploaded the picture of the note, but didn't place it until I knew where to put it. When you approach the responder, the option to pick up the note from 'Maria Chavez' is available although the note only says 'Maria'. Pinkachu (talk) 20:45, October 12, 2018 (UTC)

Fallout 76 Conditions[]

Hello, I'm trying to get a page for FO76 conditions to connect mutations, weapons, and diseases but don't know how to proceed. The Condition page covers FO3, FONV, and FO4 but trying to add FO76 puts splits it into 2 categories and most of the links present are to FO4 articles. Can I make a new page for FO76 and maybe FO4 as well and turn Condition into something like Perk or can I reorganize the current page by game so FO76 isn't split? Thanks for your input with my contributes so far. Dango39 🍡🙏 19:37, October 17, 2018 (UTC)

Here is a rough edit of the current Condition page with FO76 added: User:Dango39/Sandbox/Condition. 76 had to split in half, so I think it would be better to have a new page like this User:Dango39/Sandbox/Fallout 76 conditions instead. FO3, 4, and NV could get their own conditions pages and Condition could become an overview with links to each. Dango39 🍡🙏 16:13, October 18, 2018 (UTC)

Curious, the code should have directly transposed. Can you copy the Infobox code into a sandbox for me? I'm on mobile so I can't read those pages, but I can probably pinpoint the problem before I get home. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 17:25, October 19, 2018 (UTC)

I've found the problem now. I'm going to dig through the templates a little more this weekend and check everything is as should be. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 19:00, October 19, 2018 (UTC)
I'll be home in 10-20 minutes, what I'll do is inside some code into the master template Nd flush all the errors out by creating a temporary category. That way we can see all the issues and sweep then up in one go, instead of finding them here and there. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 19:16, October 19, 2018 (UTC)
I've fixed the one in your infobox now, {{IbValue}} just needed f76 changing to fo76. I've get the code running for the first one now. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 20:51, October 19, 2018 (UTC)

I remember Deep Space Nine fairly, well (although I was very much a child when that came out). Again, I think the war with the Dominion in the later series' is where I forget. Enterprise I remember watching when it premiered. Discover is good, but in a different way to these earlier series. Currently waiting for the second season for that. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 21:46, October 19, 2018 (UTC)
Dealt with the last of the errors now, A lot of it was inconsistency in casing in templates (I managed to take most of it out with a few edits) I think I'll leave the category in as a failsafe for now. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 10:30, October 20, 2018 (UTC)

I'm sorry to bother you, I've tried searching for the answer to this but cannot find the page. Is there a page that talks about game difficulty settings for New Vegas (i.e. on Very Easy you do 200% more damage to enemies, etc) ? If there is, would you please share the link ? By the way, my IP may show up as different as I'm at a different house right now. Thanks for your help ! - Angela 75.191.197.208 15:36, October 31, 2018 (UTC)

Yep, I saw the hardcore page. I was able to finally find the answer after much google searching. So should there be a new page made that addresses these game settings from the Start button (xbox) or should it be added to the Hardcore page ? They are two totally different things so I think maybe a new page ?
DIFFICULTY LEVEL can be changed in Settings (Start button > Settings)
Very Easy - you do 200% damage to enemies / enemies do 50% damage to you
Easy - you do 150% damage to enemies / enemies do 75% damage to you
Normal - you do 100% damage to enemies / enemies do 100% damage to you
Hard - you do 75% damage to enemies / enemies do 150% damage to you
Very Hard - you do 50% damage to enemies / enemies do 200% damage to you
Should any other things be on there if its a new page (auto-save can be changed there, volume of different game aspects like music, footsteps, etc etc) ?

From my personal gameplay that I recorded Tuesday. I didn't level high enough to unlock it, so that's why the image is kinda crap. The letter I just uploaded was at Slocum's Joe on a bulletin board outside the building. Not sure where to put it in the wiki tho. Met Mr. Prize-Bot near there too. I clipped an image of him, but it was night so was gonna lighten it a little before uploading and figuring out where it goes (or make a page for it?) Pinkachu (talk) 20:19, October 25, 2018 (UTC)

The image I uploaded was of Slocum's Joe in the game. If you don't want to use that one, just delete it. I uploaded a sound clip I made of the prize-bot. Where can I help?[]

Hello! I noticed the pages I created yesterday were being closed by Sakaratte with no explanation at all. I left a message on their wall asking for one. If there are items (like junk?) that are not to have pages, it would be helpful to know so I don't waste my time and yours. The reason I created the pages was because I found the items in specific locations that I thought would be the same for everyone and not just random, so I included those locations. Redirecting them to a game that has nothing to do with 76 at all doesn't make any sense to me. The main reason I am leaving this message with you though is to find out which specific areas I can help. I will be playing the game myself and helping here until probably the end of November (as content becomes available) so if there are specific things or events in Fallout 76 I should keep an eye out for that users tend to miss, please let me know. Thanks! Pinkachu (talk) 16:16, October 26, 2018 (UTC)

Templates[]

Hey Js. Me again. Ive been playing the beta. Tried making a few edits here and there whilst playing the game. Those auto-templates really need some updating. With the amount of editors that will want to start creating pages, having fallout 4 templates as default will cause some real headaches later on. :) Anyways, just wanted to leave a note to say that, and also G'Day from Australia :D

(Oh, and also, all the weapons, armor etc has levels. So do the creatures. And it seems (at least in beta) to be somewhat location based. I.e. Scorched level 1 at the airport, libertron/protectron level 5at mama dolce. TimeoinSay G'DayView my work 03:20, October 31, 2018 (UTC)

Its sort of like ESO in a sense. (the systems, like armor levels, set enemy levels etc). In pretty much every other way though ? Its almost entirely possible to play it by yourself, unless you want to go do an Event or something. (In fact, it can be very very fun do just go wandering :D) TimeoinSay G'DayView my work 20:16, October 31, 2018 (UTC)
