Fine. But people ought to at least try to compare edits, see why should the following edit be kept. For really, they could've at least read the basic policies before going to edit. Not even trying to ask people like us why did we revert their edits.

This all is just one big mess. Just when you'd expect support from other admins, they vanish. I do appreciate people like TwoBearsHighFiving or Peace n' Hugs, but there could be much more support from all that. ☢ Energy X ☣ 23:27, November 12, 2015 (UTC)

I am taking the liberty of adding some minor content to some of the Fallout 4 articles in need, but I am not really a active member of this wiki community, no one knows me and I dont chat. So I thought I could as well introduce myself. Im some kind of wiki enthusiast freak.

I'm not adding long and well written articles, because my english may still have some flaws, I only speak portuguese and french. But if we contribute here and there, adding some useful bits of information, the fallout 4 portal will take shape and soon be complete. The contributions are mostly about item contents and the crafting/workshop system. Nothing about characters, locations or quests, so no spoiler-ish content.

If there is any issues about my edits and articles, let me know. If there are other wiki admins or moderators I should be in touch with, let me know.

If there is any specific topic that needs work, point me and I will help. --Dantop (talk) 02:18, November 14, 2015 (UTC)

Regarding the feral ghoul/ anon 68.1.71.65 you blocked[]

Js, the anon right now is in the chat as user User:GoldieSnake told me they didn't knew about the level integration (leveling up to match the player). Since his player character is level 100, the ghoul is also the same, hence a mistake thinking they're level 100. ------Cassie Ultimate Anime Loving Weeaboo. 08:52, November 14, 2015 (UTC)

Re: Ba2 decompiler[]

First, copy the .ba2 file you want to extract to the directory where the 'ba2extract.exe' is located. Rename the .ba2, so there are no more spaces in the file-name. Then open a command-line prompt (cmd.exe), there switch to the directory where your files are located (e.g. 'CD C:\Users\Bob\extract') and then simply enter the parameters of the executable, the input file and output location, so for example 'ba2extract.exe renamed.ba2 output' will unpack 'renamed.ba2' to 'C:\Users\Bob\extract\output'. --SwoleRat (talk) 23:18, November 16, 2015 (UTC)

Progress on portable infoboxes[]

Heya :) I just wanted to thank you for your leadership during the Fallout 4 rollout. You and the rest of the community have impressively added to the body of knowledge about the new game, resulting in an absolutely massive uptick in your wiki's viewership.

One of the most remarkable things about this upswing are the literally millions of additional page views on mobile devices. That's why I wanted to directly propose to you, since you've expressed some reservation about the new portable infoboxes, that we implement them first, and then finesse the design next week.

I spoke with some people in chat yesterday and came away kinda confused about how things work around here. Several people thought the new infoboxes were already approved, while Peace'n Hugs directed me to a comment on her user talk page where you seemed to indicate that no vote was actually necessary.

This ambiguity makes it hard to understand where we stand, so I thought I'd ask you for some clarification.

I've taken the time join the forum thread to respond to your various issues with the current state of infoboxes. I genuinely think that solutions to your issues are within easy reach. In some cases, I think the solutions reside with the Fallout staff (after all, you've been tweaking your current infoboxes for years), and in some cases I think Wikia can provide the answers.

But in the current maelstrom of mobile activity, I think it makes more sense to implement the new infoboxes this week and do the touchups next week. That way we'll quickly improve the situation for mobile visitors, and hopefully retain them for longer as they play F4, and then we'll fix those minor things that really only desktop users can see.

Does that seem like a reasonable way forward to you?

Quest IDs[]

To get the quest id was really just a bunch of search and guessing of help terms. I looked at the help syntax and found an option to limit the results to quest. So I did `help 81 4 QUST` which searches for strings with 81 in them. Then I saw V81_04 (001338B9) 'Short Stories'. 24.7.169.35 17:00, November 18, 2015 (UTC)

It was getting long and energy x took to removing all fixed generator locations. Or at least he put the message in that they would be removed. I think there should be no locations at all. Hi J,

We have an email in the Nukapedia Mailbox (Strange I know) querying why a few images were removed. Images were this, this and this. Am I right in thinking that as these images are basically the large file from which the game pulls the smaller image, they've been removed as not really being useful for wiki purposes to illustrate an article? Agent c (talk) 20:02, November 19, 2015 (UTC)

Thats what I figured. There's also the comparatively minor issue of him uploading them as CC-BY-SA, which they're not. I've responded accordingly. Agent c (talk) 20:43, November 19, 2015 (UTC)

Sorry, I'll go back and fix them! Still getting used to how these work. WeirdCourier (talk) 00:34, November 20, 2015 (UTC)

Regarding Clinton and cannibalism.

Why did you remove my question on the talk page? I think it's perfectly valid. Should I just blithely delete the section from the article without asking for an explanation? Because that would seem to be par for the course around here but I am curious if there is something I missed that indicates that Clinton actually is a cannibal.

Might want to get some of this wiki's more trustworthy editors, at least the ones actually bothering to do any editing right now, to start patrolling the edits popping up in the recent changes. As seen, for example, with Liberty Reprimed, nearly the entire 'Detailed walkthrough' section is one massive clump of plagiarism from the Fallout 4 Prima guide.

Vandalism and disruptive editing by 68.108.0.170[]

Hello there. This anon has been vandalising pages, blanking sections or pages, and making racist remarks. Is there a possibility he can be blocked?

As a result of his editing the Portal:Fallout 4 page has been disrupted and it would be good if his edits could be undone or the page could otherwise be rolled back to this version, as there are a number of oddities introduced by their edits. I'm not sure of your policy for portal pages, but it may also be prudent to semi-protect that particular page in future, at least from anons, to avoid future inconvenience – you have more than likely noticed yourself that a number of anons have blanked the page in the past year.

Thanks, Techhead7890 Talk Contribs 08:56, November 23, 2015 (UTC)

Dear Jspoelstra

I've recently been uploading footage on youtube of any bugs encountered on Fallout 4 for Playstation 4, and then updating the appropriate articles on this site. Well this time I have 3 bugs to deliver, but I need to check in with one of them just to make sure it isn't already posted somewhere. Both bugs relate to when a player's settlement gets attacked.

1. During battle, the miscellaneous objective will mark itself as "completed" before all enemies are killed.

2. After successfully defending a settlement from an attack, if you interact with any of the settlers, they will ever fully complete their "thank you" dialogue speech.

3. After successfully defending a settlement from an attack, interacting with any of the settlers may cause you to be stuck in an infinite dialogue camera. The player can walk away, but they will be unable to press any other buttons other than "Options". The only way to fix this is to reload a save.

I've got it all on film, and am currently in progress of uploading it to youtube for everyone to see. My question to you is in regards to the third bug. Has this bug already been noted? I would like to know before updating the "Fallout 4 settlements" page just in case.

This message has be posted to multiple patrols for a faster reply.

Quest Stages[]

I've noticed pages where actual console > sqs command output is used to fill-in Quest Stages. It actually took me a while to fill all that in on A House Divided. I noticed you then removed the list I gave and replaced it with a list that's essentially the same as the quick walkthrough. Either the title "quest stages" is misleading and you seem to mean some objectives (the list you replaced doesn't actually give all objectives) or I'm missing something. It seemed to me that the Quest Stages list would be useful as a list of actual stages for the purpose of modding and console manipulation, e.g., getting stuck on a certain stage in a bugged quest. Dimmu1313 (talk) 22:57, November 28, 2015 (UTC)

RE: Quest Stages[]

I see the confusion. It's an issue of semantics. Since we give Creation Kit info, I assume for modding purposes, I think a certain distinction should be made. In the console and in quest setup for modding using the Creation Kit tool, there are two main components: Quest Objectives and Quest Stages. The items listed in the Pip Boy are actually quest objectives. They have ID numbers just as Quest Stages do. Quest Stages show the current quest progress description and typically have papyrus code attached to them that progress the mission and display and complete objectives. So my concern is that, while we give Creation Kit object, quest, NPC, etc. IDs, we aren't giving proper quest stage/objective IDs. Having the actual ID numbers for stages and objectives is actually helpful when dealing with quest bugs, workarounds, and testing. Dimmu1313 (talk) 23:50, November 28, 2015 (UTC)

This ending is very unique in that all factions are friendly, and none of them are at war with anyone else.

Fallout 4 armor and clothing[]

hey seems like you fixxed my grammar and then i made a big update in Fallout 4 Gloathing and armor with the same grammar error. Fixed that aswell.

Fallout 4 Map Markers[]

I matched the style of the f3/nv markers (i.e. black icon, black border, white background), saved at 256px X 256px. I figured that should be large enough for use in various locations. Here's a zip containing both explored and unexplored. Going to work on converting the Perk/SPECIAL/Quest animations to gif DulogoDigital Utopia (talk) 23:45, November 29, 2015 (UTC)

Cait is my favorite companion, so I've been visiting her page several times a day. I'm very happy to see the new table you created for the Range Of Interests section. It's much easier on the eyes. Thank you!

Multiple image infoboxes[]

Hey! I looked around at several, randomly chosen examples on the character and location infoboxes, but I didn't find any actual usage of the extra image variables, so I did *deliberately* cut them out. Could you please provide me with some examples of pages where these extra images are defined? Thanks :)
czechout    15:58: Mon 30 Nov 2015

Thanks for giving me an example page! It really helped. The multiple image infobox case seems to have been solved. Pleased confirm at the page you gave me. And, yes, I know you're anxious to have the inset icons back; they're definitely coming back! Sorry for the slight delay; I had some unexpected minor surgery last week and it threw off my plans just a bit.
czechout    22:43: Mon 30 Nov 2015
So what happened when there were just two images, or three? And how common is this use case of more than one infobox? I tried around 20 different randomly selected character pages and never came across this multiple image case. I ask because if it's actually common, we may want to put in a ticket to request that engineering create a new, multiple image feature.
czechout    23:04: Mon 30 Nov 2015
I got lucky and was able to put this use case to engineering. With so little time left in their year — they stop pushing new code after this week — they've got to prioritise. One way they do this is to determine how widespread the case is.
I used my bot to generate a list of pages that use both {{infobox character}} and the variable image2. This seems a reasonable measure of whether the additional image slots are being used, as most people wouldn't go from image to image4 without going to image2 first. And I only returned 69 hits. Out of 5,502 instances of that infobox. I'm sure you can see why engineering have said they can't prioritise a fix for something that affects such a small number of pages.
So I think we need to move to an alternate solution.
Plan A: If we leave things as they are — stacking one image under the other — then you won't have to do much work, except possibly adding captions for the additional images. Obviously, at Brotherhood scout, the one caption doesn't make much sense anymore. I think this could be a good solution for you, because it doesn't seem like there are actually that many wikis where there are multiple images in use, and probably fewer still where four additional images are present.
Plan B: However, if you don't like the idea of having things stacked, we could implement a tabber-like gallery that would replace one full-sized image with another. The only problem with this is that we'd have to go to each individual page and create the gallery there, in situ. Any current instances of variables containing file calls wouldn't work. (So |image2=pic.jpg would be ignored.) But since you're only talking about a few dozen cases this is a pretty easy task. An example of this behavior can be seen at at MLP wiki.
For the moment, I'm going to leave Plan A in operation. If you want to go to Plan B, you don't actually have to turn off Plan A, but you'll likely want a few more instructions. Lemme know which way you wanna go!

Re:Terminal entries[]

Yes, I'm transcribing as much as I can by typing them out. I'm playing on the PS4. It can get a little bit tricky because some messages flash across the bottoms of the screen. And status of turrets and opened/unopened safes can change some of the entries. Great Mara (talk) 17:17, December 1, 2015 (UTC)

And another thing I noticed is that there seemed to be a reaction entry on Tower Tom's terminal to me killing Jared at the Corvega assembly plant. So I'm not sure if that would follow suit with other terminals as well. Getting new entries based on actions in the game I mean. Great Mara (talk) 17:20, December 1, 2015 (UTC)

User page[]

Hi, can you unlock my user page for me. User:AvatarUser talk:Avatar 17:52, December 1, 2015 (UTC)

We will see, I have probably forgotten more about wiki editing than I can remember. So it will probably be light stuff (as I play through) until the tools become available. Things like nifskope are still working on capability. FO4edit is in beta and isn't yielding much that can be of help, except to the modding community. And the SDK wont be out till the start of next year. So decent quality images production and easy fact checking will be a while down the road. User:AvatarUser talk:Avatar 18:07, December 1, 2015 (UTC)

What did you do to the super mutants page? You just reverted 30 minutes of work >:(

Re: Images[]

Technically yes, though there are a few caveats.
First: Currently there are no normal maps (extracting them corrupts them without exception and as I didn't write the .ba2 tools, I can't do anything but wait until they manage to iron out the last few problems).
Second: As FO4 now uses a PBR shader system, most of the basic renders lose a bit of their "realistic" effect. Obviously I can try to approximate the materials but that can be a lot of guess work from model to model.
Third: The weapon models are all based on their modules (which has been a problem for the wiki categorizing them anyway, heh), so I'd either have to piece them together or take the so-called "load" model. Each weapon type apparently has one completely assembled model, based on the highest-end mods available for it, though for example laser and plasma weapons default to the rifle stock, as that has better attributes.

Here's two examples of the load models for the .44 and laser weapons.

Supertitles[]

Sorry; should have been working with a dummy rather than a live infobox. I thought I was easily going to be able to solve the problem with the supertitle linking only to the game, rather than to a more specific page, but it's proven more difficult. I'll probably be back later today with more details for you.
czechout    20:49: Wed 02 Dec 2015 20:49, December 2, 2015 (UTC)

Okay, so here's the skinny on supertitles: the quickest solution I can give you with respect to linking the supertitles to the appropriate, game-specific overview page is one in which the game name links to the overview page, but the trailing noun doesn't.
So, let's look at Piper Wright. What you'll now see is that the ordinary noun "character" isn't linked. But "Fallout 4" and "Fallout Shelter" take you to Fallout 4 characters and Fallout Shelter characters. So that functionality has returned but with only a minor difference in form.
You'll also note that the links in the appearances section take you to the game, as expected. So, even though both invoke Module:Games, the invocations happen in more context-sensitive ways.
Lemme know if you have issues with this solution.

Mister Handies -> Mister Handys[]

Because Mister Handy is a proper noun, the plural should be Mister Handys (like Kennedys). I would like to take charge of making this change sitewide, but am requesting the go-ahead from you, Energy X, or someone else in authority before I make the 20-or-so page changes necessary. Tiwuno (talk) 21:43, December 2, 2015 (UTC)

I was doing some looking through Mister Handy articles from the previous games, and it seems as though the uniform thing that the editors of those pages did was refer to multiple Mister Handy units as 'Mister Handies', and not 'Mister Handys'. Just thought I'd mention that since I remembered this talk when I saw that. Nethaufer (talk) 20:51, December 6, 2015 (UTC)

Weapons[]

Hey, I have noticed a few of my silly mistakes and am sorry for the hassle I have caused. I have changed the ID format to the one you are editing in and the games thing I didn't even noticed until I had opened another edit page. sorry about this I'll try to stop it in the future. - Daveo1996

Just want to let you know that I have finished changing all of those infobox templates for all the Fallout 4 weapons and I hope I have not made any mistakes. Alot of the infoboxes I changed were missing a fair amount of data some of it was the simplest of stuff such as value, weight, etc so I just left "?" where data is needed. - Daveo1996

Terminal Entries[]

First off, parsing the terminal entries shouldn't be a problem. What is a problem however, is the organizational and visual disaster that currently serves as our terminal pages. I mean, we have these nice tables, per NPC to show off dialogues, and fancy charts to show quest steps, but the terminal entries are all slapped together on a per location basis, with standard wiki headers, and transcript icons everywhere.

My suggestion: use separate pages, titled with the (GECK)EditorID for each terminal - similar to how we already do for dialogues, and use the location pages to link using the displayed name. For example, for Dashwood's Exploration Database the link would be DashwoodTerminal|Exploration Database. As for the terminal page itself, instead of filling it with headings and transcript sections, it can be made to look/behave similar to how the terminals work in-game. Here's a rough example done in HTML, which could be turned into a template. I used Dashwood's Exploration Database for this, as it's one that shows multiple menu options. Let me know what you think, and if I should create a wiki-discussion topic. DulogoDigital Utopia (talk) 19:03, December 3, 2015 (UTC)

Vandalism on Raiders (Fallout 4) page[]

Infoboxes: Mentioned only pages[]

Hey :) Could you please provide me with links this error you were talking about on "mentioned-only pages"? Alfwyn suggested that they'd made a fix of some kind, but I'd really like to take a look. Unfortunately, you didn't give either an infobox or an example page, so I'm a little lost as to what precisely you're talking about.

Also, don't worry about the inset icons. The CSS is already devised.
czechout    16:26: Fri 04 Dec 2015

So what's the way that you'd prefer this to work?
{{Infobox character
|games =none
|other vars =
}}

or

{{Infobox character
|games =
|other vars =

or

{{Infobox character
|other vars  =}}

I dunno how the "mentioned-only" characters' infoboxes are mostly filled out on this wiki. We'd probably want to build our infobox logic on the most-used situation, so that you have to do minimal on-article editing.
czechout    17:39: Fri 04 Dec 2015

I'm confused on this whole thing. There don't appear to be any actual errors present when you simply fail to fill in {{{games}}}.
If we do this:
{{infobox character
|games =
|mentions = VB
}}
we get the infobox you see at right.

Is that bad for some reason? I don't see an error, like a stray apostrophe or anything. It's just that there's no supertitle. And, really, should there be? In every other instance I've encountered here so far, the supertitle means that the thing positively exists in a particular game. What happens when you say |games=none is that an unlinked message saying kind of the negative. Doesn't the absence of the usual links to games (subpages) automatically imply that the character does not appear?
czechout    18:11: Fri 04 Dec 2015
Cool. I just want to be clear that you're not seeing the same actual error that you saw earlier, right?
czechout    18:28: Fri 04 Dec 2015
Okay, back to being confused. In the infobox to your slightly upper right, where is there the word "none"?
czechout    18:53: Fri 04 Dec 2015
It's probably not that it's too difficult. It's more that I don't fully understand what it is that you want to happen. Do you want it to say "none" when there are no appearances, without having to explicitly type "none"? Or do you want the variable to just disappear when it has no value? And do you want a supertitle that explicitly says the character is only mentioned? I'm pretty sure we can do whatever you want, but I'm just not grasping your needs at the moment. But then again, I'm kinda slow. :)

Thanks for doing the Surgical Mask page fix. I'll just report any issues I see until I fully understand how the proper formatting goes. One thing I would like to have added is the section on the quest "Kid in a Fridge" how it claims that ghouls don't have to eat. The NPC Bullet says it and the fact the kid was alive for 200 years without eating. I just would like an added section in the notes saying that it's completely false and ghouls have to eat (Two examples from NV being Dean Domino saying it and Harland says he was living off radroaches). It's one of the many plot holes and I'm starting to wonder if Todd Howard has even played Fallout before.

Super Mutants[]

Hi Jspoelstra,

I had a quick question. I just encountered a Legendary Super Mutant master and wanted to check if that variant was already on the page. Now I see that an anonymous user has removed most legendary variants from the page. Is this normal? Since I thought that legendaries are separate variants with other HP and DT etc and thus should be named? Most articles on here do. Kennyannydenny (talk) 10:56, December 9, 2015 (UTC)

I'm going to go ahead and weigh in here - Legendary is kind of like a randomly assigned template, rather than a specific variant of the creature. There are Legendary versions of everything out there, and this means every variant of a creature could have that template applied. So essentially every page would have at least two entries for each variant, for example Super Mutant + Legendary Super Mutant, then Super Mutant Butcher + Legendary Super Mutant Butcher, and so on. It's unnecessary and cumbersome, and there is also the possibility that each Legendary has a randomly generated ability or difference again, which would need a new variant created for it.
