Continued botwork[]

Hi J. I just want to let you know that I have resumed the bot in making those changes. If you have any other fixes in mind, please let me know as I am going through all the articles by a category structure by game. --Skire (talk) 21:49, May 6, 2013 (UTC)

Ok, I've added those to the programming. I'm currently doing a few test edits to make sure everything's set. --Skire (talk) 23:25, May 6, 2013 (UTC)
I have added your other job (tag skills parameter) to the programming and I've been re-running a few of the categories to make those changes. Skire bot (talk) 00:09, May 7, 2013 (UTC)
I'm now using the list of pages that have {{Infobox character}} on them, so we can catch all the Tag Skills fixes (which I think are the more important task), but also since you mentioned that there were a lot of <br>'s that needed to be changed on character pages as well. The queue is currently around 3500 pages, so the bot will be quite busy for a long time =) --Skire (talk) 00:46, May 7, 2013 (UTC)

Sockpuppets[]

Hi, Jspoelstra! Theodorico is here. I'm planning to start editing at the russian wiki, so I need to settle one administrative matter, concerning my former accounts ( User:Theodorico and User:TheodoricoBot ). I've "lost" passwords and I can't use/deactivate them, so they are stuck. Strictly speaking, they are my sockpuppets and I'd be grateful, if you could deal with them at your discretion. Thanks in advance. --85.141.139.156 00:12, May 7, 2013 (UTC)

You're a pretty neutral and collected guy - I'd love it if you sent them a message about this. I know that I plan on talking with them about this and seeing what we can do about that unflattering piece. Not sure if you've read my responses to Eden, but they haven't even answered me back for my original messages to them before they posted that article. So we'll see where this goes after I can get into official contact with them all. I'm hoping their Vault bias doesn't blind them enough not to see the potential that Nukapedia has, which is seemingly growing by the week in comparison to just about every other Fallout community. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 12:36, May 7, 2013 (UTC)

Message was sent out in the form of private messages to Odin, Brother None, and WorstUsernameEver:
"Hello! My name is Leon, and I am an Administrator at Nukapedia. With news over Fallout being pretty dried up as of late, we at Nukapedia have managed to become presented with some very unique opportunities to get an in-depth view into those behind the Fallout vision, as well as what's to possibly come with the next title. We were wondering if you'd be interested in covering our stories, as well, along with us possibly beginning a mutual relationship between our two communities. If you're interested, we have come across some good fortune in the form of personal interviews between our community, and those such as Erik Dellums, and even Mr. Chris Avellone. For your convenience:

We would love to hear back from you over your thoughts on these matters!" ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 12:49, May 7, 2013 (UTC)

Sock-puppet.[]

This has nothing to do with Nukapedia, but I was wondering if you could use your check user rights to determine whether two users over Wikia are the same people or not.

It was just an experiment I was conducting, anyways. :) Sorry to waste your time. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 17:20, May 7, 2013 (UTC)

CSS to look at[]

Hey, J, I had a suggestion from User:Pecoes to add a slightly different hue every other line on long tables to break up the look and make them less a strain to read. I've applied his fix as a separate class, va-table-shaded to look at it. You can see it on Fallout:_New_Vegas_perks, one of the pages he sited as a problem. We can't use it on all tables, since it will interfere with highlighting (e.g. Fallout 3 weapons), but I thought we'd look at it and see what we thought. Let me know if you think it helps or hurts table reading. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 00:55, May 8, 2013 (UTC)

Whoops[]

That was a slip up, I've been keeping the text the way it was before, just forgot to do it on that one. My Bad. ---bleep196- (talk) 15:23, May 8, 2013 (UTC)

Hey Js, I am at the point where I'm moving from Fallout Dialogue files to Fallout 2 and I'm noticing that the title pages of the articles aren't in all caps like the Fallout ones. Is there a reason for this inconsistency? ---bleep196- (talk) 16:47, May 8, 2013 (UTC)
Good Idea. ---bleep196- (talk) 16:52, May 8, 2013 (UTC)
I've scrolled through virtually all of Ausirs talk page Archives and there is nothing to address the names of the Dialogue files themselves besides a user suggestion to simplify the names to the major characters mentioned in the file. I'm guessing that the person who suggested this started and then never finished this process. I am going to double check the game files to see whether or not the titles are in all caps. ---bleep196- (talk) 17:03, May 8, 2013 (UTC)

Reply[]

-shrugs- He essentially said that NMA has no problem with Nukapedia, and that while he understands if the article seemed negative, that his editorial style is always snarky. So I'm guessing he's not going to change anything, even though I went through pains to point out errors in his article such as Nukapedia being under the radar. That, and he said that NMA doesn't talk about 3-Dog since the majority of the Fallout community hates him. Seemed like a bias thing to say, but meh. Anyways, all of that is a bit shoddy, but what are we to do? I also discussed with him about reviving our previous relationship, but he claimed that NMA has never had such a relationship with either Nukapedia, or The Vault. I pointed out when Tagaziel changed our linkage to The Vault's, and he sort of side-stepped that by mentioning it can get a bit murky having an Admin/Mod within both communities. However, I did get one good result out of that: He added Nukapedia as a 'Resource' on NMA, right next to The Vault. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 16:58, May 8, 2013 (UTC)

Clearing disambiguation page[]

Checked in today and for the most part it looks like most of the stuff left on Special:Disambiguations is either .MSG files or appropriate redirects to disambig. pages. However, it says on the page that it is limited to only 1,000 entries, so it's possible that there are more links that need cleaned but won't show up. Can this page be set up to at least filter out the .MSG files? I don't know how the legitimate redirects that we don't care about anymore could be removed, though. And BTW, one page I ran across today was "Tracker's Shack" that just redirects to "Trapper's shack". I suppose it was thought that someone might type "Tracker" when they were looking for "Trapper" but I'm not sure how often that really happens. I guess I would nominate that page for deletion, although I suppose it's not really a big deal. --FFIX (talk) 21:03, May 8, 2013 (UTC)

I'm noticing something else on that page. Some articles are on that page because they have a navbox that links to a disambig. In most cases, the navboxes have been cleaned up, but the articles containing them still seem to appear on the list. I assume that this is because the articles themselves have not been edited, thus the script does not re-analyze them to see if they should stay on the list? An example is Vertibird, which the page shows linking to Kevin and Cook. The Vertibird article actually contains neither of these, but it does contain the Enclave navbox, which did contain them before the cleanup effort was started. This navbox has since been cleaned up, but many articles are still flagged because of it (and a few other navboxes). Can the script re-analyze all the articles, including those that haven't changed, to get these entries off of it? --FFIX (talk) 20:48, May 9, 2013 (UTC)
OK, since you edited the Enclave navbox again, I decided to look for a page with a different navbox. I found Outcast outpost, which is on there due to the Operation: Anchorage navbox. I'll check back tomorrow and see if that one is off the list. --FFIX (talk) 21:29, May 9, 2013 (UTC)

S.O.R.-1000[]

Hey Js, I'm currently fixing the links on the B.O.M.B. design documents and I noticed that the S.O.R.-1000 bots are all the same except for the tasks that they have been assigned. Is there any particular reason why they are separated into 4 pages other than for names sake? ---bleep196- (talk) 17:28, May 9, 2013 (UTC)

Charts[]

Thanks a lot for the compliments. That chart did take a long time. I still feel like it could use some work however, mostly just the box sizes. I'm glad I got the GECK though, it's been a big help during this work. Paladin117>>iff bored; 21:21, May 9, 2013 (UTC)

You know, I read the prima guide once and I think I remember that... Some of these charts really are long though, good thing they can be collapsed. Paladin117>>iff bored; 21:48, May 9, 2013 (UTC)

Game Guides[]

For Journey, I've got him just working through the Fallout quest page to keep it simple; he's a bit nervous/inexpereinced, and there's not too many actual quests on the page so they should all be done pretty quick; all the categories will go up in one lot so the order doesnt matter much. The Main questline for the other games I'm going to handle them directly as I need to make sure they appear in game order rather than alphabetical. Agent c (talk) 21:26, May 9, 2013 (UTC)

Re:Bot[]

The bot has already been running this job series for awhile now. As we speak, it is still running the characters pages (around 1400 pages in the queue now). I can add the list of pages that link to the infobox person template to the list. You can decide which ones the bot should tackle first. --Skire (talk) 00:11, May 10, 2013 (UTC)

Excellent. And as a friend once said, "Bots don't sweat." =) --Skire (talk) 00:23, May 10, 2013 (UTC)
Alright, that job has been completed. Is there any else you need done? --Skire (talk) 01:12, May 10, 2013 (UTC)
Roger that. It's working as we speak. --Skire (talk) 21:31, May 10, 2013 (UTC)

Disambigs[]

Hey J. I'm looking at the disambiguations page and I can't find some of the links on those pages. Am I doing something wrong? --Skire (talk) 16:19, May 11, 2013 (UTC)

Alright. I'll try to get cracking on those after I finish some more bot work. I can start backwards from Z. --Skire (talk) 20:14, May 11, 2013 (UTC)

Looks good[]

It's shame we don't have enough space for the other two add-ons. I can't see any way to add them without the tabs wrapping to a second line, which looks like poopy. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 18:09, May 11, 2013 (UTC)

Tense[]

Heyo~ Sorry to bother you. I just have a quick question. Fallout Wiki:Editing guideline 1.4 - "Articles should generally be written in present tense." Does 'generally' mean 'always' in this case? Many of the Fallout Tactics articles were using a mix of past and present tense so I chose to keep everything tidy by making it all past tense. Another user told me that using past tense was incorrect. Fallout Tactics happened eighty-five years ago according to the Timeline so I think it would make sense to use past tense on Fallout Tactics articles. Another question. Can past tense be used on character articles if that character has died? I'm just really confused about this because I think that it would make sense to use past tense were it's appropriate instead of being required to use present tense when talking about something that happened in the past. Sorry, that wasn't really as quick as I thought it was going to be. Luvere (talk) 18:34, May 11, 2013 (UTC)

Ok, if I find more pages using a mix of past and present tense I'll change it all to present. According to the page (FW:EDIT), anything that happened before 2161 can be written in past tense. Is that correct? Can past tense be used for dead characters such as Dead regulator? Luvere (talk) 23:01, May 16, 2013 (UTC)
Alright, thanks. Luvere (talk) 19:15, May 17, 2013 (UTC)

Chat[]

Would it be good to insert the <chat/> tag at the Main page? It allows quicker access and more newcomers at chat. Energy X 21:55, May 11, 2013 (UTC)

Well, I reckon it's oK. There already is a direct link to chat in the nav menu that shows on page load. The only thing I don't like, and it's not the chat module in specific, is that the right column is getting quite a bit longer than the main (left) column. I also want to make sure that the news feed shows on page load whenever we start to get any new game news. Maybe we could balance the columns by moving the news feed to the left? The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 01:50, May 12, 2013 (UTC)
Funny, I just came to the same conclusion. I was playing with it in my sandbox, didn't like the news in the left column because of all the extra crap showing and decided that we needed to shorten the summary, too. I'm good with it now. Even with that 600px long add we have on the front page now, it looks better. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 02:04, May 12, 2013 (UTC)
I'm sure they'll iron that out. Porter looks like he's gonna have time next week to work on some of that stuff for them. Good to see he's not MIA anymore. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 02:11, May 12, 2013 (UTC)

User rights removal[]

Howdy, J. The user rights removal process says:"In the event that an administrator or moderator has been inactive for an extended period of time, they will have their user rights removed by the bureaucrats and restored by a community vote upon a return to constructive editing." What we've been doing is leaving a message on the person's talk page to ask their intentions. The rule doesn't really leave us that wiggle room, it just says their rights will be removed. How should we handle this when we leave the message after a user has been inactive for 9 months, yet they say they intend to still use their rights? Does leaving the return message count as an "edit", resetting the clock for another 9 months? Or should we just enforce the letter of the rule and remove the rights without asking their intentions? I'm also leaving this for Clyde. Let me know what you think. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 17:52, May 12, 2013 (UTC)

I don't have Ghost's email. I can leave a talk page message, but he's not logging in anymore. If you or Clyde have his email, maybe we can contact him that way. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 01:43, May 13, 2013 (UTC)

Infobox error[]

I made an edit to Big Circle to get it off the disambig. page. I only changed one link, but when I saved it, I saw several "Expression error: Unexpected < operator" errors. I decided to revert my edit, but the error stayed. I found that if I went into edit and deleted the infobox, then previewed the changes, the error went away. There are several "<br />" tags in the infobox, but it doesn't help to remove them, only the entire infobox. I then went into a few other pages with infoboxes and previewed edits in them (even without making any changes) and saw the same error. Has something changed to start causing these errors? --FFIX (talk) 11:41, May 15, 2013 (UTC)

Infoboxes are borked[]

Hey, Jspoel, the infoboxes are borked. Every page I've visited features this error "Expression error: Unexpected < operator.". Often times the images in these infoboxes are huge. Richie9999 (talk) 14:10, May 15, 2013 (UTC)

Weird Expression Error[]

Hey Js, there is a weird expression error popping up on my user page, and I can't figure out what is causing it. Any Ideas what is causing it to show up? ---bleep196- (talk) 16:22, May 15, 2013 (UTC)

Ah ok. Hope they fix it fast, the stretching of the infobox images is an eyesore. ---bleep196- (talk) 16:30, May 15, 2013 (UTC)
I think you're probably right about the update. They messed with files a bunch. I sent a Special:Contact bug report, didn't know if you did too, but I would like them to fix this fast. I checked over at CC, and no reports by anyone else I could find. Waiting to hear from them. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 20:31, May 15, 2013 (UTC)
That's a very complicated series of templates. The images are actually brought in through Tl|Infobox/aux3, but a number of variables are passed to that through the main infobox template. It's got to be something related to changes they made in the file system. Perhaps point them to aux3? The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 22:23, May 15, 2013 (UTC)

Stripe[]

Why did you undo that Stripe looks like a generic Gremlin in the Behind the Scenes section? Stripe was characterized by keeping his white, fuzzy mohawk after his transformation. Going by closest resemblance, Stripe in the game resembles Mohawk from Gremlins II or a generic new batch Gremlin more than Stripe from the first movie. Great Mara (talk) 19:26, May 15, 2013 (UTC)

Talon Company[]

Anon 69 has gone through the G.E.C.K. and has come to the conclusion that the group shot on the Talon Company article-page depicts a female model that does not exist, and that the only one that does exist is one Asian model. However, the image was added by Joylock who was known to add legitimate images, along with my remembrance that there were multiple dead female Talon Company mercs in-game. So I loaded up my Fallout 3, and the one in the Corvega factory was Caucasian for me. So I was wondering if you could do one of two things for me:

  • Upload screenshots for each of the three dead female Talon Company mercs.
  • Go through the G.E.C.K. to determine if the anon is missing anything.

Your help would be appreciated! ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 20:36, May 15, 2013 (UTC)

Errors[]

Hi J. I've noticed two problems with the site as of late: 1 - the infoboxes are requiring an "image size" parameter, otherwise they are super large and make the infoboxes super large as well. 2 - I don't think the user rights icons are displaying properly. Could this be something wrong with the MW software again? --Skire (talk) 22:34, May 15, 2013 (UTC)

I see your icon as "ADMIN" only, no bureaucrat one. I tried purging the page too. --Skire (talk) 22:40, May 15, 2013 (UTC)
But on another topic, regarding disambiguation pages, should we change the links only for article namespace pages, or others as well? --Skire (talk) 22:49, May 15, 2013 (UTC)
Gotcha. --Skire (talk) 23:04, May 15, 2013 (UTC)
Another thing, what should be do about links to We Must Stop Meeting Like This? Some of them refer to the entire series of quests as a whole and not to a specific one of the four. It is even necessary to split them up like this? --Skire (talk) 23:13, May 15, 2013 (UTC)

Giant infobox fix[]

Giant Infoboxes Continued[]

It seems that if you edit a page that isn't affected by the errors yet it infects them...I hope wikia fixes this soon, it's obnoxious. ---bleep196- (talk) 16:19, May 16, 2013 (UTC)

Yep. I am glad that our images are good quality, or else this would be a lot worse. I'm getting close to finishing the Bug charts, I've gotta finish the Items for Fallout 3 and New Vegas then cross check everything with the Bug verification category and make sure I have all the articles with bugs documented in the charts, then we can start taking the project template down off all completed pages. Skire has already volunteered his bot so that we won't have to flood the recent wiki activity with edits. ---bleep196- (talk) 16:28, May 16, 2013 (UTC)

Yeah, I went in-game and confirmed that they all used the same models. (Gamepedia/Curse) Vault[]

Hi J. The Vault was vandalised last night. I have a good faith reason to believe one or more of our regulars may be repsonsible. I was thinking about putting something in the news to indicate that behaviour isn't acceptable. Do you have any objections to me doing this? Agent c (talk) 15:37, May 17, 2013 (UTC)

The chat logs last night are more definitive - its pretty clear who did it. Officially its out of our space, but it doesn't stop me being extremely disappointed in the person involved.
With the showcase, I was waiting for the other 2 to go up, good news is wikia is pushing that up to today, so I'll be running the full thing with all 4 parts here today all going well. Agent c (talk) 16:37, May 17, 2013 (UTC)

TV[]

Yes, it was me. Between the Vault copying our content, some of the Vault's editors who frequent the chat continuing to act as if we're black sheep and/or unprofessional, and the recent NMA headline more or less downplaying us, I decided to dish a punch back. I'm sick and tired of all the hard work the good folks (especially the work you put in Jspoel) here put into this place on a consistently regular basis not being respected like it should be. They practically rely on us for solid edits over there, and even if they do credit us, it's in poor taste for them to copy/paste our edits and make like a +1 or +10 difference, and still look down on us from their noses as if we do anything but put in damn good quality effort to maintain a superior quality Wiki.

If a situation starts because of it, I'll take full responsibility. No one condoned what I did afaik anyway, it was my personal self who got fed up with being the 'bigger person' and decided to administer a little revenge. That being said, I don't regret what I did, but I will accept any and all consequences that may arise and quickly clarify if and when anyone thinks lower of Nukapedia itself for this, that they should think lower of me. Fine with me. Good way to advertise the app, since the site looks like crap on mobile without it. I just hate all that extra white space on the left. Return[]

Hello J, I'm going to be coming back now, at least for the summer. How active I'll be depends on what else I'm doing, and I'm not making any promises, but I've finally finished for the year at uni, and I'll have a monumental amount of time. Aside from that, I think that we might have some information to work with soon, so now is the time! To get me back into it, I wanted to ask you for two things.

1. Could you please delete all the extra pages that I have in my user space. I don't need any of them, and they're just taking up space (an annoying my tidy mind)

2. Until I get back into the swing and know what needs doing myself, can you provide me with information on what needs doing. That way, I can be useful from the start and hopefully get into finding it fun again.

It'll be nice to see you around again ol' buddy :) (maybe this 'new' start will be better than the original one ;) )

The Vault is, essentially, just a sad story for me now... I'm pending a name change to, so I'm just starting fresh. Is that alright? I can't do sound bites unfortunately, but I'll take a look at that forum. Wasn't there something with disambigs too? -- GOTW User | Talk 19:57, May 19, 2013 (UTC)

True, it could be him, but I'd rather not take the chances, especially when it's a removal of all content on the page. Does that sound reasonable? --Skire (talk) 23:16, May 19, 2013 (UTC)

Pure Human Vote[]

Hi J,

Could I trouble you to take a look at Leon's Pure human vote forum.

I have some real concerns on the process and undue scrutiny and conditions that are being placed on votes here... So much so that I think its threatening to deligitimise the vote... It seems to be being steamrollered through.

I appreciate the enthusiasm, and agree with the need for one of the pages... But I think if this sort of scrutiny is going to be applied, then the management, scrutiny and any exclusions need to come from a neutral party - not the proposer.

Thanks, Agent c (talk) 16:18, May 20, 2013 (UTC)

PHV[]

Nothing personal at all. As long as you don't call anybody a racist and as long as you've read the forums instead of jumping to pre-conceived notions that have been proven wrong with evidence, then all votes are welcome. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 16:26, May 20, 2013 (UTC)

Infoboxes[]

Ah my bad. Also, it seems that there is another problem, with the map marker images even adding the 240px doesn't fix the large infobox issue. If wikia can't fix the problem we may have an issue there. ---bleep196- (talk) 18:13, May 20, 2013 (UTC)

That's good news. The Bug charts are finished, so whenever Skire get's his bot programmed the Bug Verification Project tags should be coming down from all pages with completed bug sections. ---bleep196- (talk) 18:23, May 20, 2013 (UTC)
Another user (he added his thoughts to the forum) suggested a temp fix Porter used when a Mediawiki upgrade made the extension in question not work. I will add Porter's temp fix to the template today to at least give us some time for Wikia to locate and fix the problem. Not 100% sure the temp fix will work, but it did for Porter. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 19:26, May 20, 2013 (UTC)
Yeah. I'll update them. This is only a temp fix that just removed the extension's problem for now. Ideally, the extension problem is fixed and the code gets reverted. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 20:22, May 20, 2013 (UTC)
Unavoidable. The changes I made overwrote the (non-functioning) extension's ability to resize images by forcing the infobox to use the default size on all infoboxes. Everything bigger will size down, everything smaller will size up to the default. No real way around that other than to define the |image size= parameter on those pages. It's only a temp fix until Wikia can figure out the problem. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 01:30, May 21, 2013 (UTC)

Personal film project[]

Hey J, just a heads up about what I'm doing with the film, so that you (and people who read your messages (yes you there, don't think I wasn't aware of your presence. After all, I am omniscient now)) can have an input before I get under way properly. Basically, although it is somewhat based on Fallout, I don't think it is enough to have the 'Hero' linked to the Vault Dweller page, and think he needs his own page. I also need to create another page for the master, as he plays a different role in the film to a degree, and think he needs a new page, most likely 'Master (film)'. Aside from that, I have questions on what you think is best. Should pages like Techy, be renamed to the longer version in the film treatment, or the version that appears most often? Furthermore, if I am making new pages for characters that appear both in Fallout and the film, should I do the same for locations like the Hub? Finally, if you give me the go ahead to split pages, what should the parenthesis contain? Personally I think 'Example (Fallout film)'.

Thoughts? -- G͕͇̰͓̱̭̑̒̿̈́ͮ͌̓ͅO̝̪̯̲͖̦͔ͦ̉́̾̽T͓͖ͤ͊W̛̝̓̽ Ù̻͉̽́s̛͒͌͒̄͐ͨě͍͉̦͙͇ͨ̈ͦ͢r̨̞͔̜̹̹̦̪ͨͤ͗̆͐͛ | T̯̙̀ͣͪ̀̔̚a̮̞͓͈͖̒l̿ͩk̢̲̬̱̬͉̲ 21:28, May 20, 2013 (UTC)

errors[]

I can not say I have not made mistakes but some of what you pointed out is questionable.

You wrote "Quote" With the Aces theater you made it theater. As far as I know it's theatre. ."End Quote."

  • I have mild Dyslexia, so on the Tops page I used spell check. According to spell check "theatre" should be "theater" Aces theatre??? is it intentionally miss spelled or is spell check wrong?

The cell name even says "TOPSAcesTheater" just like I wrote. I am honestly not being a smart ass here. I just do not see how that is my fault. I think the guidelines page is a miss print. Spell check, Google and the cell name all say it should be "Theater."

The player's character vs player character seems arbitrary because it refers to the character that belongs to the player. I did not bracket such a common reference so it never accrued to me to me to bother this time either. If you would rather have it say the player character O.K. I am here to cooperate.

  • The cursor on the Sloan image was all me but it is an easy over site to make and clearly not one I usually do make.

I will continue try. That is the best I can do.

Infobox fix?[]

Deleting an image from a page with a broken infobox and then putting it back up restores the correct size. Is this a fix or something that shouldn't be done like adding image size? 69.125.134.190 04:47, May 21, 2013 (UTC)

No, not image size. If you delete the image and then reupload it, it returns to the normal format. 69.125.134.190 17:45, May 21, 2013 (UTC)

But he lacks the ability to die, so is essential, he isn't marked as such in the GECK because the child script already compensates for that, so there is no need to add another script that stops him from dying. He may not be marked as essential but he is, for all extensive purposes, essential.

Gigantische infoboxen[]

{{SUBST:Signature|Kennyannydenny}} 16:49, May 23, 2013 (UTC)

Mvg, {{SUBST:Signature|Kennyannydenny}} 17:22, May 23, 2013 (UTC)

{{SUBST:Signature|Kennyannydenny}} 20:05, May 23, 2013 (UTC)

Nog een update: Ik heb de rest van de personages gedaan en ook alle Fallout 3 creatures. Die hoef je dus niet meer langs te lopen. {{SUBST:Signature|Kennyannydenny}} 07:21, May 24, 2013 (UTC)

Infoboxes and The Professional perk[]

I just removed The Professional multipliers from the 10mm submachine gun (Fallout: New Vegas) page and Sleepytyme (GRA) page because they were conditional to the weapon. However, another thing is that they bonuses weren't being applied to the Crit DAM cell but the regular DAM. Is there a way to alter the template so we would be able to use the perk correctly in the infoboxes? From what I understand of the bug on The Professional's page it applies to all the critical hits the weapons affected by the perk make.

I don't understand the template coding so I can't change it myself. Great Mara (talk) 21:33, May 23, 2013 (UTC)

Wikia fix and templates with multiple images[]

Did Wikia already correct their error from the other day? It seems that when location articles are edited, only the size of the main images reverts to normal. Location pages I ust checked had small main images but the map images were still huge. Trying the edit and publish test with one of them again didn't fix the additional images either. Change of heart[]

I was thinking about the film a little on my mini-holiday, and I had a change of heart. To be honest I disagreed about the film not having separate pages because it is not the same, however close it might be. To use an analogy, a scientist's life work, and a recent one at that, discovered that there was no such thing as a 'fish'. (Bear with me.) He discovered that there was as much genetic variety in what we deem fish as there are with land animals, it's just they have to be more similar in some ways simply because that is what life in the sea requires. Therefore, no matter how similar something is on the surface, it should not be simply lumped in with a pile of other 'similar' things for that reason alone. This is the point that I am driving at.

I disagree with putting all the film things into the same category as the others because they are 'close enough'. If we want to be the best, we need to ensure our information is accurate, detailed and accessible. To me, this means having relevant articles, rather than condensed sections in other similar-but-not-the-same articles.

Personally, I disagreed with what you said straight away, but didn't want to be a nuisance as soon as I got back. However, on review, this is not a decision that has sat well with me because I am not the kind of man to do things by halves in order not to make a fuss. I don't mind kicking up dust.

Therefore, I hope this has encouraged a change of heart from you, so that you will let me do what I originally set out to do. If not, I would ask your permission to open a forum to discuss the matter, though this will set me back and is not the preferable course of action in my opinion.

Thanks, Ci.

Thanks for splitting up those pages for me. I just went through and added some more stats. I'll probably add more info for the wastelanders in Fallout 3, as they play a larger role, mainly expanding locations, inventory and interactions. It would also help to get pictures. Just because previous useless images have been added doesn't mean all future ones should be, it means all previous ones should be removed. Audio Files[]

I'm having trouble uploading the duologue files as the wiki only allows files smaller than 10mb to be uploaded, where all files I find are at least 20mb. What should I do? JASPER//"Do you like hurting other people?"UserRichard 01:15, June 1, 2013 (UTC)

My bad. The files are KB. They weren't uploading last time I tried so I assumes it was a file size thing. Tried another one now and it went up fine, so I dunno what the issue was. JASPER//"Do you like hurting other people?"UserRichard 18:31, June 1, 2013 (UTC)

The quotes you're uploading don't have very useful titles, stuff like "nvdlc04aud_nvdlc04ulyssesb_0000cd6b_7" would be better suited with just "NVUylessesWhoAreYou" or something. Much shorter and easier to understand, and some of the quotes yo uploaded (Cass's Long Dick Johnson) the audio features more than the written quote, which is against the project guide lines.
Don't want to sound like I'm moaning or anything.

Suspect edits[]

Hello J. I'm sorry, but I must say that the edits you have been making over the last five to ten minutes or so have piqued my curiousity. You see, not only are you making them at a rate of roughly 1 every 31 seconds, occasionally peaking at 4 per minute, but they are extremely bot like. As someone who knows AWB, it looks like your using that if I'm completely frank. That's the only way you could be lining up edits so fast, especially ones that are so negligible.

These two were made but seconds apart: (1) and (2).

I'm not going to push these accusations any further, but I would ask that you don't make edits such as those above, as I, and countless others, have been chastised for edits that are just so. Indeed, I remember you personally pulling me up on removing spaces. At any rate, they are of no benefit and can only be aimed at boasting your edit count and achievements.

None of this was meant in a frictious way, but I do feel it needed pointing out as no-one ever checks your edits anymore, and those who do simply let ones like those above slide due to your role here.

I hope you take this in the friendly, constructive manner in which it was intended. -- G͕͇̰͓̱̭̑̒̿̈́ͮ͌̓ͅO̝̪̯̲͖̦͔ͦ̉́̾̽T͓͖ͤ͊W̛̝̓̽ Ù̻͉̽́s̛͒͌͒̄͐ͨě͍͉̦͙͇ͨ̈ͦ͢r̨̞͔̜̹̹̦̪ͨͤ͗̆͐͛ | T̯̙̀ͣͪ̀̔̚a̮̞͓͈͖̒l̿ͩk̢̲̬̱̬͉̲ 23:50, June 2, 2013 (UTC)

I'm terribly sorry J, when I saw the messages notification I only read Gunny's for some reason. As I wrote on GoTW's TP I do have a plan to get rid of the lines (c'mon, I'm responsible!). A second program will go through and perform minor fixes, which includes removing extraneous white lines. I am now using my bot's contributions as the page list to ensure that it gets everything. The problem was that this second program somehow surpassed the first (despite me starting it later and having a longer timer). Again, sorry for any inconvenience. --Skire (talk) 00:03, June 3, 2013 (UTC)

In light of that and Danny's messages, I apologise. I'm sure you can see where I was coming from, but I was mistaken. -- G͕͇̰͓̱̭̑̒̿̈́ͮ͌̓ͅO̝̪̯̲͖̦͔ͦ̉́̾̽T͓͖ͤ͊W̛̝̓̽ Ù̻͉̽́s̛͒͌͒̄͐ͨě͍͉̦͙͇ͨ̈ͦ͢r̨̞͔̜̹̹̦̪ͨͤ͗̆͐͛ | T̯̙̀ͣͪ̀̔̚a̮̞͓͈͖̒l̿ͩk̢̲̬̱̬͉̲ 00:06, June 3, 2013 (UTC)

Well, considering my (unintentional) lack of a response, blocking would've alerted my attention once I realised it from overseeing the bot. But now everything's good, and those white lines will be all gone once the second program runs through. Although I'm still not sure how it managed to pass the first program... Anyway, thanks for understanding. --Skire (talk) 00:22, June 3, 2013 (UTC)

Comment.[]

Do what you will with it. I was just trying to improve the article. As for the comment, well, it gets old to put time into editing/correcting things in articles only to have someone run over top of me and deem it 'unnecessary'. Kind of discourages me from editing all together to be honest. Enclavesymbol 12:52, June 3, 2013 (UTC)

Also, the Brandon thing.
This page is not a normal user page, as he has an edit, yet it hasn't registered and still says 'a wikia contributor'. 1
This page on the otherhand, is his real page: 2
The four and the eight are the wrong way around. So next time, maybe take what I'm saying and investigate, and you'll see that I'm not an idiot and actually do know what I'm doing. I should bloody hope so after two years (today, not that anyone noticed but me).

There is one more thing: could you give me permission to create an account that only serves to deliver {{Talkback}} to recipients? I am switching to talkback and I think it would be best if my contributions weren't littered with sending users these templates over and over. It would help me a lot. (My bot (because of the bot flag) does not produce the message notification when it delivers the template, so that won't work.) --Skire (talk) 02:26, June 4, 2013 (UTC)

Would it be possible to change the stats creature FOT template? Poison and Rad. Resistance should be included in the DT/DR column, and EMP should be removed since that damage type isn't used in FOT. Electrical damage type is used instead. There should also be an Item column like FO3 and FNV creatures have. Luvere (talk) 00:56, June 5, 2013 (UTC)

Errors in the math in weapon infobox[]

I was adding crit damage perk effects to the {{Infobox weapon gamebryo}} when I realized that the math showing the total effect of all perks on the modified stats (the ones shown in parenthesis labeled "with all perks") is incorrect. Here's the jist:

Weapon Base damage
.357 magnum revolver 26
Perk Multiplier
Cowboy perk +25% x1.25
Lord Death (tier 3) +4% x1.04
Bloody Mess +5% x1.05
Thought you died +10% x1.1
Current infobox formula Total dam w/all perks
26+(26*.25)+(26*.04)+(26*.05)+(26*.1) 37.2
Correct formula Total dam w/all perks
26*1.25*1.04*1.05*1.1 39.04

The infobox is written so that it adds the individual perk bonuses to the base damage, when the game actually multiplies all the perk bonuses times the base damage. I've tested this in the past. I've completely deconstructed the whole damage formula (you can see it [[User:The_Gunny/sandbox#Full_damage_formula|here]]) and have actually written a damage calculator that outputs any weapon's damage given any combination of gameplay effects (perks, ammo, mods, chems, etc.). During testing of my calculator, I verified that all the perks "stack", or multiply together.

I also believe that other perk types like reload speed, etc. also multiply in the same way. I will test those to be certain, I'll probably have to re-write the entire perk section of the infobox. I will work it in my sandbox to correct the math so that it uses the proper formulas. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 01:01, June 5, 2013 (UTC)

Fallout: Tactics[]

Can you actually give reasons for why not? I provided an argument with good reasons behind them, and just because they've been the same for 9 years is not an excuse to ignore proper conventions. I have to say that it more than annoys me when people say that I'm wrong without even providing reasons as to why. So I'll go ahead and reiterate upon mine:

  • Fallout is the title, and Tactics is the actual game. We wouldn't write it out as Fallout Brotherhood of Steel, now would we? The same would be wrong if we said Fallout New Vegas. It's just improper. The only exception is if the game is called something like Fallout 1/2/3.
  • Every single game-cover for Fallout: Tactics is completely void of being called 'Brotherhood of Steel'. Where are you getting that the game is called Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel, outside of fan-art and concept-art? I am going off of game covers here, and each and every variation is saying that the game is called Fallout: Tactics - A post nuclear tactical combat game.

Living to learn[]

I removed the rest of my youtube videos. I will worry about music on my page later.

  • Spelling is always going to be my curse. The dyslexia is not an excuse. Yet I would like to explain it. The Last adult I.Q. test I took scored 136. That is not to shabby for someone who so avoided school as a child.

I did score remarkably high on vocabulary however. The real problem is I was a horrrid student. I rebelled and took playing hookie to a master's level art form.

  • I had to get a waiver just to join the army due to my felony record of truancy.

It might terrify some here to know my first job in the army was military occupational specialty 13c TAC Fire Operations Specialist That is field artillery, fire direction center with Nuclear Chemical and biological fire as a mission specialty.

Thankfully I was never called upon to deliver any NBC ordnance on human targets but my point is, I was shocking, considered bright enough to be trained for such responsibility.

For me the dyslexia is particularly problematic because it is "intermittent". A condition that might have exisited when I was a child but it only became evident and or exacerbated with post traumatic stress disorder.

  • When it is happening I can not see it. That is the nature of it. I will read and re-read a line six times and it will look fine. The next day I read it again and I could define nearly swear some one eles posted the scrambled words.
  • Even on a good day spell check often lets my spelling slip by so the best I can do is continue to try my best.

There are thousands of editors on this wiki. I honestly wish for every page to appear as professional as possible but just as you said " no one is infallible ". I am not attempting to excuse myself. I am just suggesting maybe you take to much upon yourself. Typoes happen to every one and we clearly have enough editors to carry the load. Making it your personal responsibility to correct every one must be exhausting.

If you take it all on your self it will drive you insane.

  • " No one is infallible " and we should all be here to support each other.
  • There are many, many mebers who would love to up their edit count.

That said, roll backs and reverts don't help the page either when just a letter change or to would correct an edit. If patrolers find a trivial dropped letter or out of place punctuation mark, would it not be best to just make the minor edit instead of steam rolling it with a revert that ignores the intent of the edit.

Minor spelling errors happen to evey one and of course we should all always strive to be correct as possible but you are exausting your self and at times, I am sure you can see the patrolers might "at times" over use their revert powers when a minor edit would do better.

Aain, I am not trying to excuse my typoes. I swear. I am just asking you to cut your own self some slack before you burn out..

That said I will try to redoubled my own efforts.

I hope we can all work as a team ~ I thank you for your patience, time & effort.

This is a Fallout wiki, for a game that is for the ages 17+ or more in other areas of the world. There is strong language, and other things that aren't nice. With that being said, I think it is acceptable for me and others to say 'fuck' as many times as our hearts desire, withing the rules of course. Detroit lions Hawk da Barber 2012 - BSHU Graduate 18:19, June 6, 2013 (UTC)

Go right ahead, it won't bother me. This wiki is for mature people, if they can't handle the word 'fuck' then they might be suited somewhere else. Detroit lions Hawk da Barber 2012 - BSHU Graduate 18:28, June 6, 2013 (UTC)
Your point? I'm pretty sure kids these days curse more than adults, I think they couldn't give a fuck about saying the word 'fuck'. It's probably the most used word in their vocabulary, with some exceptions for other kids. If they are on this wiki, there must be a reason for it. Maybe playing the game? If they played the game, they can handle the word fuck. Detroit lions Hawk da Barber 2012 - BSHU Graduate 18:34, June 6, 2013 (UTC)

Chat[]

I'm sorry if you feel I was *ahem* "testing Ryan's patience" but I was merely enforcing our rules, if anyone I feel a guy who says "then ban me" after being warned not to do something is the one trying people's patience. The same rules everyone gets. It was him, not me that escalated it to asking for a permanent chat ban and a wiki ban, I was addressing his attention to the rules that everyone has to obey and I was expecting something closer to an "okay" or "sorry" as a normal user would reply.
I'm sure you can understand how I don't really feel comfortable with the way you're making me seem like the bad guy here, whether or not that is your intention (I'd like to presume not, as you're a mature adult and the like). Yes, you're right I do swear a lot, but no more than Desmond of Dukov. Fallout is a game that swears and there is nothing against doing so in the rules, if you wish this to be changed, there's the usual act of setting up a forum and proposing a change, but the way it stands now; the F-word I use is allowed and the F-word Ryan used (even censored) isn't.
Now, I'll be the first to admit I may not always be the most welcoming person, but I don't think it's the fact I swear that causes that. Maybe my sarcasm and snide-ness that I gained from 19years of being English doesn't come across all that well on some new members. If you have any comments against my chat behavior other than my potty mouth, I'll be more than glad to hear them.
But I don't think you can really say I'm the root of the issue here, I'll admit I may have been a catalyst and how I meet hostility with hostility surly doesn't help matters 9/10, but the problem here was that Ryan didn't want to hear me tell him the same thing I tell everyone who says what he said. The same thing all moderators (other than Hawk, who isn't an enforcer as much as some of us) would have told someone who said what he said. Now, yes he may have had a "rough day", and I can sympathise, I havn't exactly had a grand day today for example. But that is not an excuse for misbehavior in chat, for anyone, let alone an admin. You say that me and hawk swearing would create a poor image for the wiki, yet I feel a much worse image is one of admins who cant accept the same criticisms that we would give regular users.
I agree, that Ryan should not have received a ban (certainly not a permanent chat ban nor a wiki wide one), as what I gave him was just a warning. How was I to know he was having a rough day? And why should that allow him to break rules set out to make chat a better place for everyone? Should I not try to alert Admins, like Ryan who have been absent from chat for a while, when they're breaking rules? Does this mean he's immune to the rules just because I cannot enforce them personally?
I certainly hope you don't have it in your head I was out to get Ryan, as you read the logs you certainly saw that earlier on, when Relics was discussing who to contact to run a bot task for him, I actually recommended Ryan. Not because he has the more powerful bot, but because he'd appreciate it. Because it would make him happy. And the whole reason he even came in to chat was because of this situation. So the fact that I set out to first make a user happy, then enforce the rules I have been elected to enforce yet still come out branded as "testing his patience" rankly offends me.
You also pointed out that Ryan may elect to leave the wiki, which may in some part be down to my behavior in chat. Now, whither or not this is true is hardly my place to say, as I am somewhat biased. However, I wish to make it clear it is not in anyway my intention to drive away someone I consider a friend, especially over a petty argument such as this. Ryan also made it clear that he was intending to leave the wiki anyway, when he voiced comments such as "I remember why I don't come in this chat anymore.", "I would rather be in a chat with 10 Tagaziels and Todd Howard than this" and "I've been meaning to leave the Wiki anyway".
Honestly, although you would be right in saying that I hardly defused the situation as best I could, I'm not more at fault than Ryan is.
On a side note, if you do feel I;m at fault here, which is your opinion either way and I respect that, I hardly see it fitting for you to drag Hawk in to this, he may hardly have a fantastic bedside manner, but this had very little to do with him what so ever so I don't really see why you made him part of this.
JASPER//"Do you like hurting other people?"UserRichard 19:42, June 6, 2013 (UTC)

For the record, the only one in chat testing my patience was the user Greentextisbesttext. In the end, I think it was I who was the one who acted out of turn. Although I think the discontent expressed over my censored word was a bit much, it is a rule and Jasper was just being fair. And at the end of the day I'd rather be on a site where the admins have to adhere to rules as well. That first user got me quite annoyed, and from there it just fell apart. --TwoBearsHigh-Fiving Intercom01 19:58, June 6, 2013 (UTC)

I would really appreciate it if you could check out this page during a free moment. Not necessarily that important of a resource, but I'm looking forward to seeing the light at the end of the tunnel for this project. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 02:10, June 9, 2013 (UTC)

What the hell dude ? Why did you delete my edit ? Tavish30 (talk) 15:42, June 9, 2013 (UTC)

Van Buren Stub Pages[]

Why did you undo my VB edits? Only quotes, dev documents, and quest-names are capitlized, even if utilizing improper nouns. Locations do not follow this same rule, and improper nouns are de-capped even for VB content, and I made sure to double-check the VB guidelines before making those edits. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 17:52, June 9, 2013 (UTC)

That makes sense, and I definitely understand that concern. I went through and fixed a large chunk of red-links that I had made last night, but unfortunately, I did have work today. So I'll be sitting down and finishing those VB stubs, and I'll make sure to have those red-links squared away and no longer a wiki blight. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 18:06, June 9, 2013 (UTC)
Gunny taught me the error of my ways over abusing re-directs. I'd rather do things the proper way and have everything nice and tidy. If need be, I'll get Ryan or Skire to run through any red links that I'm missing. As for Cudder, I upped his ban because out of sheer defiance, he spammed his TP with external links. If you feel like his ban should be shorter after that shameful act, then you can go ahead and change it. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 18:22, June 9, 2013 (UTC)

Spaceship images[]

Is there a page where those images would be appropriate? Thanks. --FFIX (talk) 21:20, June 9, 2013 (UTC)

Images[]

How are your image ethics? Was looking through some images earlier, and I couldn't help but wonder how great some of our images would look if they were ran through a filter. You know, make it hazy/smoky looking to portray that feeling of bleakness and dread. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 07:37, June 10, 2013 (UTC)

That's pretty interesting. I'll have to come up with some examples for you, but I was thinking about helping out with images when Fallout 4 comes out, now that I've moved from consoles to pc gaming, and how I can improve the quality of my images. Not sure if you saw or not, but I was having a lot of fun creating Fallout characters for some of the editors here at Nukapedia. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 16:05, June 10, 2013 (UTC)
Yeah, I put down the challenge for a while because work was getting so hectic, but this week is opening up a bit more free time for me, so I'll have to start getting to work! I've put a lot of thought into yours. It's been a toughy, but I think I have a good idea of how I'll portray you. I'll see about getting another batch made out tonight with you as one, and see what you think. :D ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 16:11, June 10, 2013 (UTC)

Infobox fix[]

OK. I'll wait until we hear back that the fix is good. Thanks,  The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 23:45, June 10, 2013 (UTC)

My sandbox[]

No offense J, but please can you stop editing my sandbox. I understand there is some discrepancy between the redlinks I've left, but I will be binning that lot at the end, so there is no need for you to do it. Thanks for trying to help, but I know what I'm doing with my sandbox, so please stop changing it.

But my sandbox can be as untidy as I like; it's not making the wiki look any less tidy. I was aware of that, but I'm still deciding what pages to include. I might still do the LA suffix to distance it from this page, but I don't know. That's the point of my sandbox; to organise my ideas. I fully understand on the main space, and am very appreciative of you combing through the new pages after I've finished to add brackets and the like, but all I'm asking is that you leave my sandbox alone whilst it's in active use. I've nearly finished planning the final pages, so it won't be for long. I hope you can understand.

Thank you very much. You've got yourself a deal. I'll have the creature pages and one of the last three characters left to do up at some point today :D

Re:Videos[]

Ah, I see... Is the youtube extension permanently disabled or is it just temporarily not working? Either way, I guess the policy does need to be changed. Paladin117>>iff bored; 14:20, June 11, 2013 (UTC)
