Animal Friend is a perk in Fallout: New Vegas.
Effects[]
Taking the first rank of this perk causes animals both regular and mutated to not attack the player character and taking the second rank causes them to assist in combat except when against other animals.

Interactions that require the Animal Friend perk[]
- During Saving (or Savaging) Sergeant Teddy, Sergeant Teddy can be acquired from Antony immediately, bypassing the fight against four Legion hounds (bypasses Barter requirement).[1]
- During You'll Know It When It Happens, Ranger Stevens can be asked about borrowing the help of his search dog (if Rex is not available) to patrol the area. Like Rex, the dog will be able to detect the imposter engineer before he tries to attack Kimball.[2]
During A Brain's Best Friend, after retrieving Gabe's bowl from Higgs Village and defeating the cyberized Gabe in the X-8 research center, bringing the bowl to Dr. Borous at The Think Tank gets him to accept his role in experimenting on Gabe, gaining him as 1 of 3 required "votes" to make Dr. Klein back down during Old World Blues (bypasses Speech requirement).[3]

- Despite being classified as animals for the Animal Control challenge, lakelurks and fire geckos are unaffected by this perk. Conversely, night stalkers are affected by this perk, despite being classified as abominations for the Abominable challenge.
- In Goodsprings, rather than fleeing, the bighorners will attack the locals or Powder Gangers during the quest Ghost Town Gunfight or Run Goodsprings Run.
Having the second rank will cause animals to avoid helping the player character when fighting Dead Horses or White Legs.

The Courier: "[Animal Friend] Well, it seems to me it belongs to a friend of yours."
Dr. Borous: "-Why... yes. Gabe.- -No matter how awful my day had been, he... he was always waiting there. How odd. My gel is de-coagulating.- -And when I would talk to him about Betsy - and how Marcus would beat on me and call me Smarty Sissy Pants, he'd just sit there, head on my knee.- -And...- -...- -If you don't mind, I'll take that bowl.
