Possible Troll[]

I think we have a troll in the chat. User:Felix Pls1 123123abcabc (talk) 18:13, May 26, 2017 (UTC)

Kicked already. I've suspected them to be a sock for a while, based on behaviour. Can you do a check against A Fish Face and Gamer4life56 for me? Sakaratte - Talk to the cat 18:19, May 26, 2017 (UTC)

RE:FO4[]

I tried using the free version. FO4 does not work even at lowest possible settings. My PC doesn't meet the games minimum requirements. As for the Creation Kit the bethesda.net is not working. It loads but the screen is slanted and it goes very slow. I don't think my PC even meets the Creation Kits minimum requirements. Anyway thanks for all the help. 123123abcabc (talk) 09:17, May 27, 2017 (UTC)

Bot rights[]

I'm not going to be running a bot, but would it be possible to add bot rights to Dakiatte while I run through the notable content templates? Having it on >6 points is completely pointless and as the change has zero impact to the majority of article themselves, there is no point in having hundreds of edits clog up the recent changes. Plan is to remove the template from anything with less than 8 simple notes and leave it as is on more complex note structures. i've probably retained 1/10 of the existing templates, so it is going to be a pointless job. Sakaratte - Talk to the cat 16:19, May 27, 2017 (UTC)

Fair enough, I was calculating about 10% of the used templates we redundant, especially with notable loot lists where only 3 items existed or it was masking one or two simple items. It's great for masses of information or complex lists, but as Peace said the helip isn't always the clearest. Something to look at, but not something I have the right clearance to sort out at present.
I have managed to integrate sound files in my sandbox for the quotation template. At best it eliminates the NaNaPx error created by visual editor, by hard coding the size to the template in the short term. Long term it will allow us to make global changes as needed to the layout. If it gets the greenlight we can just replace it as we make other edits, no reason to go through the wiki and replace them all in one go. Sakaratte - Talk to the cat 23:39, May 27, 2017 (UTC)

Multiple Account Abuse Case[]

Reports of a multiple account abuser who repeatedly inserts nonsensical fanon/vandalism content haven risen over the past few days. I suspect that User:Breakdown Kush is responsible for repeatedly posting gibberish and vandalism content. He was blocked one for this act, however the unprepared circumstances of the ban allowed him to create a sock-puppet account User:Saigon Sally, which he has used to constantly restore the bad pages he creates after repeated deletions. This action of deleting, restoring, deleting and then restoring a page I believe constitutes edit warring. This guy is also responsible for his abuse if multiple accounts to circumvent a block. We will need to take more vigilant action. Bluerx833 13:11, May 28, 2017 (UTC)

I recognize those pages from yesterday. Sinclair Parish and New Bourdeux. Strangely they are both from mafia 3. 123123abcabc (talk) 13:16, May 28, 2017 (UTC)

Wev'e got this toll too User:Empire Carpetbagger doing the same thing when I delete his troll pages.123123abcabc (talk) 13:24, May 28, 2017 (UTC)

Also the I got the VDSG a while ago and they have been quite a few mistakes. I think I remember it mentioning a cut character to so when I read it again I will lookout for mistakes.123123abcabc (talk) 13:41, May 28, 2017 (UTC)

Can you lock Breakdowns user pages for me? Keeps blanking them. Looks like he has also gone for IP only activities. Sakaratte - Talk to the cat 13:53, May 29, 2017 (UTC)

New Navigation Section[]

Quests Section Wiki Navigation

I recently noticed that there is no "Quests" section for Fallout 4 in the navigation menu. I've made a test version on my own test site to determine what would fit best, on the right is an image of how the new Quests navigation section could look like. In my opinion this is the best kind of layout to have for the quests. It's a piece of cake to add it, but I just wanted to get your approval and opinion on it before I add it. Re: Navigation[]

I'm not entirely sure that I fully understand what you mean. Do you mean that every location in the locations header should be linked to [[Fallout 4 location#NAME OF LOCATION]] or what do you mean exactly? And what overview for Scollay Square? I'm not sure if we are even talking about the same thing. And if we were to join both creatures and robots/computers to one united header, then how would we divide the two from one another? You can't use more than three *** so I don't know if it would be such a great idea to join those two together. Best regards Jackiboy Logo (talk) 13:14, June 2, 2017 (UTC)

My suggestion is to use the header "Creatures & Robots", but where should the header link? If I were to use that title I would just be able to link that header to one specific page. Either "Fallout 4 creatures", or "Fallout 4 robots and computers". So what should I do? Jackiboy Logo (talk) 16:28, June 2, 2017 (UTC)
I've now added the additions needed to the MediaWiki:Wiki-navigation page. I also added some other additions like Add-ons to the "Other" header. I have to say that it looks much better now. The changes aren't visible for me, which is very strange. It might take time to actually see. Though it works swell on my test site so I really have no clue. I think it's just a matter of waiting it out I guess. Anyway, hope you're happy with the results. Best regards Jackiboy Logo (talk) 19:16, June 2, 2017 (UTC)
Update: Apparently it just needed a "refresh edit" to work. Weird ain't it... Anyhow, it finally works! Jackiboy Logo (talk) 19:20, June 2, 2017 (UTC)

Trek guys[]

Dead Redshirts simply takes the reader to the Fallout 2 characters article, would it not be better to have a link to a page that at least says something about them? Alternatively, maybe an article about the redshirt guys may be needed.

Hello. Can you quickly go inside my sandbox (They is a link to it on my profile page) and look at the VB special encounters section? Also. Can you get me a photo of Bob's pre owned car mart in FO2. It's at the ladder entrance part of the Mercenaries' cave to the north. Thanks. It may need the RP installed but I am not sure.123123abcabc (talk) 15:55, June 4, 2017 (UTC)

I tried it without the mod an it's not showing up. It's likely just a thing the maker added in for fun. Sorry.123123abcabc (talk) 15:27, June 5, 2017 (UTC)

Thank you for taking the time out to do that. I got them from the Van Buren random encounters page anything labeled unique I took because that was the name it had in the wanted pages. However i'll make it an overview page, like the random encounters page.123123abcabc (talk) 16:32, June 7, 2017 (UTC)

re: Medic pump X+[]

I'll be honest I've got no idea... it showed up for me while I was checking out different crafting options but I'm not sure what caused it to show up. I don't think it's a mod as I don't have any power armor mods installed.

I'll start up FO4 in a bit and see if I can grab a screenshot if that helps. Or let me know if you need any other info I can grab on it. --Litheen (talk) 15:51, June 4, 2017 (UTC)

Medic pump X+

Medic pump X

If this is any help? --Litheen (talk) 16:10, June 4, 2017 (UTC)

edit more: Comparing them the difference seems to be that the Medic pump X+ doesn't require mats, while it does require both Science! at 4 and Armorer at 4, while the regular Medic pump costs mats but doesn't require Armorer of any rank. Trying to build it/ attach mod doesn't work though... the option just remains grayed out. Don't know what's going on.--Litheen (talk) 16:26, June 4, 2017 (UTC)

Aye seems fair. Since it seems to do the exact same as the regular Medic Pump it's not even that vital to be included. --Litheen (talk) 14:22, June 5, 2017 (UTC)

Re: Interlanguage Flags[]

In my opinion I think that the drop down menu will be a very helpful addition. It will further endorse the interwikis and it will also make it much easier for users to choose which language to view a page in. I've asked people in chat and almost everyone seems to like the concept of it, Gunny said he loved the drop down menu and that it will be very useful.

There's some minor stuff I'd like to add to it though. I could for example align it a little more centered between the talk button and share button. That way it will look more coherent, Gunny also suggested that the languages section at the bottom should share the same style as the category table. Surrounded with a small border. Just an idea though. I understand what you mean though. And yes, it can be improved upon. Though the concept itself isn't a bad idea in my opinion. Thanks for the feedback. Best regards Jackiboy Logo (talk) 23:15, June 5, 2017 (UTC)

I've changed the british flag to the american flag now, the javascript addition is now awaiting an approval from wikia. As mentioned, I will try to enhance the button as much as I can, I'll align it better, and if needed reduce the size of the flags/button. We could also discuss this via the forums or via a poll (not ideal) if we can't agree upon this and come to an end conclusion. I'm open to feedback, but I'd also like to hear solutions to the problem to. That way we will easier come to an end conclusion and maybe even get a better end result. Thanks. Best regards Jackiboy Logo (talk) 08:11, June 6, 2017 (UTC)
The american flag interlanguage image in the drop down menu isn't functioning right now. Silly me forgot to add the standar http:// format before inserting the vignette image link. It's only temporary, the JS addition is awaiting approval. Just wanted to let you know. Jackiboy Logo (talk) 17:22, June 6, 2017 (UTC)

Nav menu[]

We've got some changes coming to the masthead soon. I was looking at our navmenu and I don't like the inconsistencies between the fo3/fnv menus and the fo4 menus. Also, the last (7th) level 2 fo4 menu don't show on all resolutions, including mobile. I think we should move things around to the same order for the fo3 and fnv menus. That would require moving creatures and robots into the same menu with characters. You can see this here. The only problem is I don't like characters as the main level 2 heading. I can't think of a good substitute that covers characters, creatures and robots, and we also have the problem of nothing suitable for that to link to, as there's no parent category for characters, creatures and robots. I'm open to ideas, but we can only have 6 level 2 menus at most. Ideas? The Gunny  UserGunny chevrons 23:30, June 6, 2017 (UTC)

That was one of the options bandied about in chat last night. The only concern about that term is was it too nondescript for people? I'm not gonna do anything until we see what the masthead changes look like next week anyways. Perhaps we'll have more room. The Gunny  UserGunny chevrons 23:31, June 7, 2017 (UTC)

Infobox Faction[]

Hello Js, I added the actors, base id, ref id and dialogue data label to the Template:Infobox faction, I added it because on the Raiders (Fallout 4) page there would be two infoboxes, which to me seemed very unnecessary and makes the page structure very incoherent. Just wanted to check with you if that new addition to that infobox template is okay. Will make the page look much cleaner. Best regards Jackiboy Logo (talk) 16:12, June 7, 2017 (UTC)

That's mean lol. My goal was never really to catch up to you - I'm just trying to get work done in my own little corner of the world. (You're waaaay to insane to catch up to). After I had kids, my edit rate dropped down significantly (Hence why its taken 6 years to get to nearly 100k). On a completely unrelated now - is there a list somewhere where I can find out who else has this achievement? I know you and Cook have, but certainly others must have. I dont think it would be a MASSIVE list though. TimeoinSay G'DayView my work 22:14, June 7, 2017 (UTC)

Reilly's Rangers (quest)[]

I'll do what I can with it, I try to mix up the use of one/pc/LW as much as possible. Considering that their is over 100 you's in this one I should be able to elimate the use of all of the above in places with some sentence restructuring. I'm thinking it will be a sandbox job because of how long this one is going to take anyway, so I'm happy to run it past you before transfering. Sakaratte - Talk to the cat 07:04, June 8, 2017 (UTC)

Re:infobox quest[]

It looks like the problem is caused by the <div> having a relative position of -3px relative position, where the size of the image is less than the infobox width. I'm going to do a few more tests, make sure it doesn't break anything then switch the code when I get home. Sakaratte - Talk to the cat 17:48, June 9, 2017 (UTC)

Dropped the change in now, It should be fine based on my testing, but do you wnat to check a few spots yourself and let me know if anything is off? Sakaratte - Talk to the cat 19:29, June 9, 2017 (UTC)
I had noticed that at the time and had a play around to see if I could resolve it, but no dice at the time. I'll take another look now and see if I can fix it, its the missing Icon template that is the problem. Sakaratte - Talk to the cat 21:51, June 9, 2017 (UTC)
I can give it a shot and see what I can do. I'll get the box fixed as is now before moving on just in case the move doesn't work as intended. Infobox character[]

Hey Js, I've added a new section to the Infobox character called CK race so the infobox points for Creation Kit instead of GECK for Fallout 4 races. The label is CK race for now (Creation Kit Race extended it too much imo), but I'm still not 100% happy witht he label. Do you mind taking a look and see if you can come up with something a little more suitable?

Fair enough, I'll add it in where appropriate, especially if they live in the leveled section (no exactly the obvious place to look for named characters especially). Sakaratte - Talk to the cat 15:31, June 10, 2017 (UTC)

Infoboxes/Fallout Shelter[]

I've had another couple of goes at moving the icons, once I can get the title working properly we will have a proof of concept to take forwards to the community. Right now I am having a what's wrong with my code moment.

I have been looking at the item and consumable boxes as well, as they are pretty bland (plus the idea of adding crafting do yields has come up.) They're pretty bland boxes at the moment compared to the other boxes, no subheading etc. So I've had a play around and come up with a new layout for easier reading. Feedback has generally been positive so far, but I need to make sure everything is in the right place for consiatency.

I've also noticed the rewards on the Fallout Shelter articles appear to include random drops from boxes/lockers etc. Do we have a definition of what should be there? Sakaratte - Talk to the cat 08:51, June 12, 2017 (UTC)

Page header changes[]

Looks like the page header changes will likely happen Tuesday night at 3am pacific time. One thing I found out was wordmark images of less than the standard 250 pixels will allow the nav menu headers to float to the left taking up the extra space. If we can trim the white space around our current wordmark to shrink it about 50 pixels, that would help immensely with the problematic level 2 nav menu headers that don't show on smaller resolutions. Think you can trim 50 pixels from it? The Gunny  UserGunny chevrons 00:33, June 13, 2017 (UTC)

I did a quick white fill of the wordmark. It'll need to be done better, but that will suffice until someone with either more time or skill than I can do it. "fallout" was one font, and "wiki" was another, and they took the fill differently. It probably has to be completely redone. I'm gonna play with the nav menu for a bit to see just what the limits are now. I think any space problems we had are gonna be gone now. The Gunny  UserGunny chevrons 21:40, June 13, 2017 (UTC)

Reading Tobar back, that was a poor at best edit by myself. I'll get it fixed when I get home. Spotted another bung change on Kenny, but most of them seem fine, unless I'm missing something. I need to skim back through point lookout and confirm what the original edit was on about before I fix it. There is a sentence in there that wasnt very clear before I changed it.

If we haven't heard from DU by next Saturday or he is too busy I'll pick it up again. I did notice that he had feedback about the table layout from the ones already done. • Done with him and Become a Prizefighter. I conclude that he was deliberately cut from the game. That answers your previous question on my talk page. I didn't answer it before because I didn't know. — Ivan Pozdeev 11:55, June 23, 2017 (UTC)
  • In Xander Holyland#Notes, I provide evidence that he was cut specifically as a scrapped idea rather than due to time constraints or a bug as some have thought. It's a big deal really because the thought that it was otherwise is what probably prompted his inclusion into KillAp's Restoration Project (and maybe others) that have as its goal to make Fallout "as the developers intended it to be". I used {{Behind the scenes}} to clearly separate facts from conjecture. That text doesn't belong in the Behind the scenes section because it's a supplement to the other text in the Notes section. This may be not how the template is intended to be used, just the best way I could come up with. I sent this to you (and others) because i want to thank users that usually correct me and fix my mistakes, those mistakes and errors are mostly based on english language rules. Since my english language is self-thaugh and i never (ever) been to any place where english is spoken my english is far from perfect. i do (and will do) lots of english language mistakes and "typo", i try to improve, but, i know it will happen. thats why i value a lot of your corrections, fixes and such, i dont just "see them" i "look at them" trying to learn. and avoid repeating that error.

I hope that my contributions do weight more than my mistakes on the wiki. Thank you very much! --Holakc (talk) 20:47, June 19, 2017 (UTC)

Game scripts[]

Does the administration have any official position about including game scripts to the site like we already do with message files (e.g. were there any previous discussions on the matter)? Asking because it's the only thing I can refer to in behaviour explanations - the only alternative is to not refer to anything at all. — Ivan Pozdeev 12:00, June 23, 2017 (UTC)

  • I downloaded the script sources from http://www.teamx.ru/site_arc/utils/index.html (Firefox says that the page has been reported as containing malware yet I didn't actually see any). It's the exact package that Interplay released at some point. The scripts there are from the initial version of the game though. For the changes made by the 1.02 patch, I had to resort to decompiling the .int's from the game's patch000.dat (the aforementioned page has all the necessary tools). I also decompiled the original scripts from master.dat and made diffs to get an idea of what was changed. Exploring decompiled scripts is very hard though, so I cannot always state with confidence that what I learn from there is 100% correct and I didn't miss anything. I can only be confident in what is already there in the original scripts and wasn't significantly changed by the patch. — Ivan Pozdeev 23:06, June 24, 2017 (UTC)

P.S. To verify the behaviour in specific parts of the game quickly, I used saved games from http://www.lonebullet.com/saves/g/fallout-2-save-games-1932.htm . — Ivan Pozdeev 03:15, June 25, 2017 (UTC)

This brings me to the core matter behind my question:

To make it possible to explore both the original and the patched logic with convenience, I'd like to add the patch's changes to the scripts from the source package, clearly marking them. The catch is, there are ~300 files to edit, and this cannot be automated, so I'm going to need a hand here to be able to finish in the foreseeable future.

Here's how I see it:

  • I upload the original scripts, both versions of decompiled scripts and the diffs to GitHub.
  • A volunteer claims a file for processing by creating an issue with its name in title
  • Then they make the corresponding edits in their private clone
  • Added lines are going to be prefixed with something like /*v1.02*/
  • Deleted lines - prefixed with something like /*v1.00*/ and commented out
  • If they discover that the change is transcluded from an include file, they mark this somehow so others affected by the change can see and coordinate the efforts (available options include tagging, adding the include file's name into title and creating a separate issue for the include file). There can be multiple options how to make the change (e.g. if there's a new macro, how to name it and where to place it), so a ticket is probably the way to go
  • Upon finishing, they submit a pull request that they link to the issue
  • Then it's my job to merge the pull request into the source. GitHub allows to give other specified users commit rights, too.
  • Upon finishing everything, we either upload the resulting sources here as reference materials, or leave them at GitHub and keep linking to them
  • The problem here is that MediaWiki isn't tailored for storing source code:
  • The sources are structured into multiple directories, there's no such thing in a wiki
  • Wiki UI isn't suitable for code browsing (e.g. searching all files for references is critical) and code references (linking to a specific line)

A question directly to you here is whether there are facilities at this wiki that can alert the community, get the feedback of how much support for the idea and the plan is likely and maybe some improvements (though my experience at ruwiki shows that the community isn't likely to provide conclusive feedback here, so it's more practical to just go ahead and figure it out as you go). I tried the forums before but they're virtually impossible to monitor with minimal effort, so few people must be doing it. — Ivan Pozdeev 03:15, June 25, 2017 (UTC)

Shelter categories[]

I spoke to beard about the crafts least only category a few days ago to understand where it came from and it it used to be a lot of outfits could only be crafted before quests were introduced. The craftable outfits I can understand having their own category, but uncraftable outfits I think better to remain in the outfits category as it doesn't specify how they can be obtained. Other than that, I'll see if we can get a category that's better suited to how they can be obtained. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 16:25, June 23, 2017 (UTC)

DM request[]

It was certainly fun trying to get the community messages part up and running. Not the easiest of templates to read and trying to make sure everything gets counted from discussions is even more fun.

I have a week off now and I've seen DU's reply re dialogue and if you're happy to wait for 6 weeks I will hold off on looking at them again. He does make some valid points, regarding dialogue before and after (I didn't think they were necessary, but I couldn't justify to Jacki very well at the time). DU's route will certainly make things much clearer and I can look into how it can be done via means for the characters you want doing ASAP. I also suspect the missing emotion section is down to it being replaced by ABXY in part. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 22:34, June 23, 2017 (UTC)

Dialogues[]

Excel, Access and notepad are all I use to run the dialogue files. I'll give a fairly detailed rundown on how to setup and run it below.

Initial setup
  1. Save a blank, single worksheet excel file somewhere to use.
  2. Export a dialogue file and copy to the excel sheet and save (do not rename the sheet).
  3. Open a new access database and save it.
  4. Create a new table in access with the following Column names:
    • Opening
    • SCRIPT NOTES
    • SCENE
    • DIALOGUE BEFORE
    • RESPONSE TEXT
    • DIALOGUE AFTER
    • ABXY
  5. Set the default value for opening to "{{Dialogue FO4|row".
  6. Save the table.
  7. Connect the speadsheet to the database:
    1. External Data - Excel.
    2. Select the spreadsheet you saved earlier as the desired file.
    3. Select "Link to the data source by creating a linked table".
    4. Make sure sheet1 is selected it the top box and select Next.
    5. Check "First Row Contains Column Headings" and select Finish.
  8. Create a new query in design and close the "Show table" box when it loads.
  9. Change the query view to SQL.
  10. Copy the below script the the SQL window:
INSERT INTO conversion ( [SCRIPT NOTES], SCENE, [DIALOGUE BEFORE], [RESPONSE TEXT], [DIALOGUE AFTER], ABXY )
    SELECT "|script=" & sheet1.[SCRIPT NOTES] AS Expr1, "|scene=" & sheet1.SCENE AS Expr2, "|before=" & [sheet1].[DIALOGUE BEFORE] AS Expr6, "|response=" & sheet1.[RESPONSE TEXT] AS Expr3, "|after=" & sheet1.[DIALOGUE AFTER] AS Expr4, "|abxy=" & sheet1.ABXY & "}}" AS Expr5
    FROM sheet1
    WHERE sheet1.[RESPONSE TEXT] is not null;
  11. Save the script.
Running the script
  1. Delete everything from the previous dialogue file (including headers).
  2. Copy the new dialogue file to the spreadsheet and sort it SCENE.
  3. Save the spreadsheet.
  4. Run the query.
  5. Open the table and copy everything to notepad and use replace to remove all the tab spaces.

From there its a case of adding {{Dialogue FO4|start}} and {{Dialogue FO4|end}} where needed to split the tables. adding |sortable after that start option will make the table sortable.

Any problems let me know. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 16:21, June 24, 2017 (UTC)

Dialogue[]

Dialogue files for J

From what I can see everything looks right to me in Access, other than the ID column at the start of the table (just needs deleting). I think the issue might be that you have the query open in a tab. Close everything but Abbott down and then run Query1 from the navigation menu. As you can see all I have open in Access is conversion (Abbott) and I just double click qryImport (Query1) to run the script. From there just hit refresh all in the ribbon at the top and it will refresh the table with the data in it.

Each time time you want to run the script you need to empty the spreadsheet and the access table, so nothing from the previous dialogue file exists in either. Copy the dialogue file from the txt file onto the spreadsheet and run the query as above.

I hope that makes things a little clearer. I've just run the file for DiMA now so I'll get that up. I know Jacki is doing them dialogue a little differently, He has moved scene and removed ABXY so there is going to by a bit of inconsistency. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 22:36, June 25, 2017 (UTC)

Its not been that difficult to do, as you can see with DLC03DiMA.txt, I've managed to set it up to reflect your changes (an even groups the topics). It does mean a new script and table layout though. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 15:34, June 26, 2017 (UTC)
Couple of bugs in the scrips so the ''{}'' does get produced around the script notes now. I've just used notepad to eliminate the duds now, but that is something I can write out with the scripts a little more.
Merging the columns is something that needs to be done manually. In the case of DiMA it will look ok on most of the dialogues, but with sections like DLC03DialogueDiMA_01_GreetingScene It makes it harder to see what the scene column is. I'm going to go back to the raw data and see what we can use instead to make this clearer. I've also had a play around to see if I can find the related topic names that the Form ID's relate to, I think this is going to be the best route to take. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 16:12, June 26, 2017 (UTC)

I think I have it cracked now. If you look at DLC04LizzieWyath.txt I have it all running by quest then scene, which groups everything nicely. What I am going to do is use the quest as an article header then group everything by scene then topic so people can see exactly how the conversations run and which lines are related. I'm having to run 4 different scripts now to do this, so the sooner I can get started, the sooner we are finished. DU might be happy enough to just replace the topic IDs with actual topic later on. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 18:56, June 26, 2017 (UTC)

I'm pretty happy with the layout now. I've had to go down the semi automated route, the row spans and manually done using |srow for scene and |trow for topics. I have a couple of secondary scripts to help with the counting though to avoid errors. The topics are boring, but they show which lines of dialogue are interlinked and they will need to be replaced 2ith the relevant keywords that underpin them in the long term (e.g {hello}) but I am struggling to find them in the kit. Once DU has time to crack open the esm files he should be able to match them up and get a bot to replace them all.
Judging on the ones I've done today, they are going to take about half an hour or so each to do, so the more hands the better. There is a few more scripts and queries involved now, but nothing that can't be talked through. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 21:56, June 26, 2017 (UTC)
Sounds like a plan to me. I'm currently running over the pre-existing dialogues because the template changes I made have broken them all, so I want them back up to standard. I agree on the major characters, but Nate/Nora/Sole Survivor are going to be a challenge, with and without the template the wiki engine struggles to process the page (and outright crashes mobile browsers) so they are going to need some pre-planning Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 22:08, June 26, 2017 (UTC)

I had a question regarding making a post more seen in the community, is there any way to help get my posts noticed? I love this wiki and want to contribute as much as I can. Thanks! SheasonFillyWiddler (talk) 15:36, June 27, 2017 (UTC)

Script[]

X6-88 went horribly wrong the first time I did it so I had to re-do it. Companions take about an hour or 2 by that method, but others I can do it around half an hour. I'm going to need a little time to write a script to do them all as individual rows, I need to work out how to make the script account for empty scenes. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 15:51, June 27, 2017 (UTC)

New script as follows to replace qryImport (single line):
INSERT INTO conversion (ID, Linkable, QUEST, SCENE, TOPIC, [DIALOGUE BEFORE], [RESPONSE TEXT], [DIALOGUE AFTER], ABXY)
SELECT sheet1DB.ID, "|linkable={{Linkable|" & ID & "}}" AS Expr1, "|quest={{Linkable|" & Sheet1DB.[QUEST] & "}}" AS Expr7, iif(isnull(sheet1DB.[Scene])=true, "|scene=-", "|scene={{Linkable|" & sheet1DB.SCENE & "}}") AS Expr2, "|topic=" & TOPIC AS expr8, "|before=" & [sheet1DB].[DIALOGUE BEFORE] AS Expr6, "|response=" & iif(isnull(sheet1DB.[Script notes])=false,"''{",null) & iif(isnull(sheet1DB.[Script notes])=false, sheet1DB.[SCRIPT NOTES] & "}'' ", null) & sheet1DB.[RESPONSE TEXT] AS Expr3, "|after=" & sheet1DB.[DIALOGUE AFTER] AS Expr4, "|abxy=" & sheet1DB.ABXY & "}}" AS Expr5
FROM sheet1DB
WHERE (((sheet1DB.[RESPONSE TEXT]) Is Not Null));
When putting everything to the spreadsheet, make sure Topic is set to be a text column in "format cells" before pasting from the dialogue file.
Sort by QUEST > SCENE > TOPIC, to collect everything together by the right groups.
Save the spreadsheet and import it to access External Data > (Import and Link) Excel select the conversion spreadsheet and set it to "Import the source data into a new table in the current database". Hit next twice, then tick "First row contains column headings". Hit next twice again. On the final page change "Import to Table" to Sheet1DB and hit finish. Once the import is done Save the import steps so you can run it from Saved imports for each dialogue file. Instead of having to repeat this everytime.
CaptureDB
Conversion needs updating to hold the following columns on the right so the new version of qryImport will work as intended. From here run the query and it should port everything to Conversion as normal.
So you only have what you need to go on the article you need to setup a new query to only look at the columns you want (feel free to name it as you please). The SQL code for this second query it as follows:
SELECT Start, Linkable, scene , topic, [DIALOGUE BEFORE], [RESPONSE TEXT], [DIALOGUE AFTER], ABXY
FROM Conversion
ORDER BY Conversion.ID;.
All you have to do from there is copy everything from the query to notepad, remove the tab spaces and transfer to article as normal.
Any issues let me know, it is a lot more complex now so more can go wrong. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 16:37, June 27, 2017 (UTC)
There is a couple of <code> tags in there. I've fixed the script above now so try copying it again. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 16:57, June 27, 2017 (UTC)

Dialogue extraction[]

I've got the extractor up and running and its now in my onedrive to be downloaded. It has a few kinks in it, but nothing that will slow progress down. Even though there is a little bit of repetitive button pressing, the files are processed in a coupe of minutes. The real time sink in getting the articles up now is splitting the tables out quest group. I imagine I would spend more time working on that problem that I would just doing it manually. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 06:28, June 29, 2017 (UTC)

Hey J[]

I just saw your message on my talk page. I was able to make a discussion thread. So, I think I'm all good. Not entirely sure what happened. I have often signed onto Nukapedia on several different family member's PCs. Only thing I can think of is maybe a family member made an account or something? That's just speculation on my part. As I'm sure you are aware after reading ArthurMaxson's DM request, I'm dealing with some personal issues. So, I've been taking a break. I've only gotten back on to check how his request is doing. That's about it. Any posts or edits that have come from a similar IP then mine since Arthur's request was filed most likely aren't me. I appreciate letting me know the situation.

Oh, and about Arthur's request specifically. I saw Sakar's vote. Apparently, Arthur edited a user's vote and added a signature for them. I understand the whole "no tampering with the request" idea. But, it was such a small edit that didn't change the meaning or spirit of the vote caster. I wanted to know if something like that could jeopardize his entire request. I've talked to Arthur since. When adding the signature for the user he didn't think it was that big of a deal. He's remorseful about it now. I just wanted to ease his mind and find out if there is anything to worry about. I plan to message Sakar as well just to clear up any confusion.

Thanks!

CaptureExtractorForm

It sounds like you're on the right track with it. The Import Dialogue is the top button on the form that loads on startup. If you can't see it on your screen, just select FormStart from the object list in the database.

Having everything on push button does make it nice and quick to get the pages up. I've noticed with some of the minor characters that the file dumps everything by voice actor, so a little bit of prescreening is required with them. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 22:28, June 30, 2017 (UTC)

The bottom button on the box brings up the large screen with the raw data in your screen shot. Its a case of working from top to bottom withe buttons first. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 22:30, June 30, 2017 (UTC)

If the screens not popping up then the macro's are disabled. You should get a confirmation message on the other buttons, so if you haven't seen them either then that will be the issue. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 22:49, June 30, 2017 (UTC)
That, is very strange. I have no idea what is going on there. Open frmExtraction and that will manually take you there. If things don't play properly from there let me know as something has gone wrong somewhere. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 23:06, June 30, 2017 (UTC)
Seems like New Vegas picked a good time to crash on me, just looked at the revision history and it appears all worked as intended for you. Jacki didn't notice the first time he was using it, but the quests do show above the raw data in the dialogue screen, to the left of the buttons. I have noticed one bug so far, with the topic ID's, but it open happens once every now again. If there is anything major let me know. I'm unlikely to be able to take a look at anything until Sunday at the earliest now though. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 01:19, July 1, 2017 (UTC)

Manta Man and others[]

Yeah it is from a shared file, I had it filtered down to the actor to pull it. I'll look again aslnd see if I can find anything else, otherwise it will be in another file somewhere.

I had noticed with the topics some of them sort in reverse order. I looked into it last week as well when I noticed it and I couldn't see a consistent enough pattern to justify reversing it at the time. For the most part I just manually switched the rows around, but the last couple of days my sleep patterns been off, hence the early morning edits and I haven't been mentally in gear to spot them. I'll take another look at it this evening and see if flipping the sort order fixes the issue for the majority. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 16:49, July 5, 2017 (UTC)

I found the missing dialogue for Manta Man, it didn't have the same search key in it that I had used to pull the rest of the dialogue out with. Did it in the switched order and it placed the topics in the wrong way, previous one had gone through fine with the reverse order. Just means a little more work beforehand with the larger files I think Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 18:38, July 5, 2017 (UTC)

Italics problem[]

Hello, i wasn't sure how to address this issue, its a problem that most probably started when someway somehow the entire wiki got the text on italics, maybe has been years or months, i dont know, but the problem is that lots of articles use certain words on italics by this simbols '' '' to specify (diferentiate from the rest of the text/list) but, since the entire wiki is on italics that text formating end up been exactly the same as everything else. several articles expresely specify that "certain thing on italics" but unless i start to edit and look at the source code and see the '' '' around a word there is no way to see diference.

I see two ways to fix this:

  1. Switch the italics at the css (or wherever is the entire wiki specified to be on italics.
  2. Switch the clarification one by one on each article that used the "italics clarification" to show certain info.

One example of this problem can be found at the article Fallout 4 locations, But i have seen this on several articles since i read this website for the first time.

I dont think its just me, but just in case, Chrome is the browser i use. --Holakc (talk) 18:51, July 9, 2017 (UTC)

I'm correcting the tables. When you moved things around, you got the users out of alphabetical order and misplaced all the user pics. I'm sorting it out now. The Gunny  UserGunny chevrons 18:18, July 21, 2017 (UTC)

posible change/addition to Template:Infobox armor gamebryo[]

Hello, im interested on editing a trafic sensitive infobox template, since its so sensitive, even if i have the "power" to edit it (as a registered user) i want to ask you for advice for to add a new field so for that reason i want to add a single line of code to the Template:Infobox armor gamebryo

See highlighted line is the one i added there, that i want to add for real (i did not save the changes yet). http://i.imgur.com/XlzY1s3.jpg if i am correct, this line when used on articles, should just add "equipment slot" extra field and then someone could add the info, for example in the case of dog equipment slot: "eyes", "head", "neck" or "torso".

If im right, that line of code should do the trick.

And the result will be to have the option to add there the dog equipment slot name for where the item is for also should be good now and in the future for other equipment slots not already included on the traditional way of current armor sets, so will be usefull for dogs but also for any of the humanoids equipment goes (humans, synths, ghouls, supermutants...).

Thank you in advance. --Holakc (talk) 01:48, July 22, 2017 (UTC)

Army[]

I'm just unifying the pages, some had U.S. Army, some US, some just Armed Forces or military, also roles like Soldier. I can leave the affiliation part alone if that's what you want though Xa3MysteriousStranger 22:55, July 23, 2017 (UTC)

I'll go back over the un ranked soldiers and un capitalize them, is it still alright to change United Stated Armed Forced to U.S. Army, to distinguish branch?Xa3MysteriousStranger 23:04, July 23, 2017 (UTC)

Most likely an accident, I haven't edited on here in a really long time, the other Wiki I'm on doesn't really have editing guidelines because everyone abandoned it. If you're talking about the space in the "break" brackets, that's just what I saw on the page and copied it.Xa3MysteriousStranger 23:13, July 23, 2017 (UTC)

ah, there must have been a space on the clip board, I was copying and pastingXa3MysteriousStranger 23:17, July 23, 2017 (UTC)

Sorry, I should have specified where I was adding "soldier" to.Xa3MysteriousStranger 23:22, July 23, 2017 (UTC)

Buzz[]

Do you know if his rank is stated anywhere, when I finished editing last night I put him as General but it got removed because it wasn't actually stated, so I removed it from the other pages. Xa3MysteriousStranger 14:36, July 24, 2017 (UTC)

It used to be "Commander" but I removed it because that was his role, not a rank. Xa3MysteriousStranger 17:54, July 24, 2017 (UTC)

Mayor Hildenbrand[]

Hey, thanks for finding the name for the Mayor of Boston in 2077. Quick question though: where did you find that name? I tried looking for it myself but couldn't find any conclusive evidence of his name, so I left it as "Boston mayor 2077" temporarily; just out of curiosity though, where did you find Hildenbrand's name? NomadMC (talk) 16:00, July 26, 2017 (UTC)

Hmmm, thanks. That helps. If I'm looking at this correctly, before today, we knew that a mayor of Boston had an access key to the library, and we also knew that the mayor during 2077 had killed himself in his nuclear shelter; but no one till now put those two thoughts together and realized they were the same person. In that case, nice work JS. NomadMC (talk) 16:11, July 26, 2017 (UTC)

Farhenheit Edit War[]

There is an anonymous user who is needlessly deleting a line from Farhenheit without explaining why. He is currently engaged with an edit war, trying to delete the line faster than me and Abc123 can revert his edit. The page needs protected, I believe, and the user punished possibly. NomadMC (talk) 16:32, July 26, 2017 (UTC)

New page templates[]

Hey - just wanted to ask, what template(s) are used as the basis for new pages (e.g., when you click what type of Fallout 4 page you want to make and it automatically fills a template into the page)? Because I've noticed that a lot of our edits are spent trying to fix the fact that the template(s) in question generate "_____ only appears in Fallout _____" at the end of the page, which is gramatically incorrect. (It should be appears only in, technically.) Where is this template located - and can it be changed? Just curious. Thanks - NomadMC (talk) 14:40, July 27, 2017 (UTC)

Thanks! Never saw that category page before, that will be very helpful to know for future use. Cheers NomadMC (talk) 20:09, July 27, 2017 (UTC)
Editing that: it would appear those pages can only be edited by admins... Obviously, I don't edit enough to be an admin, so unless there's a way to add those specific pages to my patroller rights (which I'm guessing there isn't), I suppose this isn't really my issue to cover. NomadMC (talk) 20:16, July 27, 2017 (UTC)

RE: Renaming files[]

Sorry about that. Didn't know that they were all connected in that manner. Richie9999 (talk) 21:35, July 27, 2017 (UTC)

Is there a way to see where they link externally for if I do a change like that in the future? I thought what links here also showed connections to other wikis too. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 04:16, July 28, 2017 (UTC)

Dialogue[]

I had put off doing Nora's after the hassle that Nate was to do. Most of the human dialogue is done now, with the exception of a few minor characters. I'll see what I can do with the abxy=A, I have been consciously aware of it throughout and the problem with getting them at the top and I've just had a bit of a play around, but there is no practical way that I can find to make them sit in the right place. If anything it will be a case of change the order and re-number the linkables, which I have done several times before and isn't an issue on the normal dialogue files, but with Nate/Nora the volume of dialogue would makes it exhausting to do as I go along. Do you mind following up behind me and doing the manual resort while I wrap Nora up? I'll be fine doing it with the other files as I go along. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 01:19, July 29, 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for that, i'm doing the Institute portion now and its not too bad, doing that one myself as I go along. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 01:33, July 29, 2017 (UTC)

25,000th article page[]

Ok. I'll make a blog about that. I was actually going to continue with the FO2 characters in my sandbox but then I noticed that the Olympia page hadn't been made yet so I decided to make it and then go onto FO2 characters. I only noticed the 25,000 thing when I made the page so I decided to mention that in chat. I think I should equally credit the people who fixed a part of the background of the page (they were a few minor grammar problems), and the people who helped the wikia get this far though.123123abcabc (talk) 17:04, August 1, 2017 (UTC)

Ok. I'll get to making a blog about that then.123123abcabc (talk) 17:23, August 1, 2017 (UTC)

Got what I'm going to put on the blog at the top of my sandbox. Its not much but I think it looks fine. Is it ok to put in a blog?123123abcabc (talk) 18:00, August 1, 2017 (UTC)

I added a bit more to it. Is it acceptable good to become a blog now?. 123123abcabc (talk) 18:40, August 1, 2017 (UTC)

Ok. I don't seem to remember adding a link to The Vault so that is odd. Anyway can I add a featured category to it (community news)?123123abcabc (talk) 18:55, August 1, 2017 (UTC)

Re: Removing[]

I didn't discuss it with anyone, just saw them while I was fixing the data. I removed it since it was already listed and didn't think they needed to be listed twice. I'll leave them there for the rest. Xa3MysteriousStranger 23:46, August 7, 2017 (UTC)

Xa3 - Removal of Content From Pages[]

I had to revert Xa3's edits based on the quantity of edits and now they're going back behind and edit warring over the reverts. In chat, Xa3 stated that he somehow isn't required to restore content he shouldn't have removed. This is ridiculous. I shouldn't have to waste hours of my time cleaning up behind someone over thinsg they shouldn't have done. Great Mara (talk) 18:24, August 8, 2017 (UTC)

Nice of you to mention how you reverted every single one of my edits without checking a single one of them. Those edits you reverted were me fixing incorrect infoboxes, which you labeled as "bad edits" and your reason for hitting undo without checking. I said I wasn't required to add them back since you said "not required to waste my time taking a scalpel to bad edits" Xa3MysteriousStranger 18:28, August 8, 2017 (UTC)

I did check, I saw you making edits to said pages without restoring the content. It's not my responsibility to pick through dozens of your edits to restore content that shouldn't have been removed. That gets a revert. Great Mara (talk) 18:32, August 8, 2017 (UTC)

You "checked" right. you reverted 5 pages a minute, but didn't notice the infobox was changed to correct information? "It's not my responsibility to pick through dozens of your edits to restore content that shouldn't have been removed" thats literally what I have to do to fix your mistake with the infoboxes, and you don't get it. Xa3MysteriousStranger 18:36, August 8, 2017 (UTC)

I'm not required to "get it." It was your mess to clean up, not mine. And you didn't do it.' And franky, I'm done talking to you. If a bad edit of yours gets reverted, you can do it again without screwing up this time. Not my problem or anyone elses. Great Mara (talk) 18:40, August 8, 2017 (UTC)

You asked me to put them back I said when I was done, Which I am not, which I told you I wasn't because I was going over pages still, which when you came back in the first place I was getting to NW content and you were impatient and started this. Xa3MysteriousStranger 18:46, August 8, 2017 (UTC)

You're right. "When you are done" was me trying to be polite, but frankly I see that was taken advantage of since apparently when you were done takes forever and a fucking day. Frankly, it should have been taken care of immediately after it was called to your attention. Or just reverted by someone else checking the feed. Great Mara (talk) 18:50, August 8, 2017 (UTC)

Youre right i'm sorry I'm a human being that needs to sleep 8 hours a day, since last night was at 11Pm, also have you seen how many pages there are, how many pages I checked?Xa3MysteriousStranger 18:52, August 8, 2017 (UTC)

Eliminate Mr. Bishop[]

The workaround is for both preceding bugs, that's why I formatted it this way. Sure, if you can think of something better that would not sacrifice the meaning... — Ivan Pozdeev 17:25, August 12, 2017 (UTC)

Convince Mrs. Bishop to leave New Reno[]

I'm not sure if "Convince Mrs. Bishop to move on" or something is a better title. That's why I didn't hurry to add the page into navboxes. — Ivan Pozdeev 22:05, August 12, 2017 (UTC)

Dialogue revisited[]

I've updated the tool to fix the issue around quotation mark artifacts. Instead it converts any in the raw data to "&quote;" so it doesn't create the extra ones. All you need to do is download the package and set up again. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 14:47, August 19, 2017 (UTC)

Nuka-World perks[]

Just been looking at the Swarm perk on the Nuka-World overview page and from doing a bit of digging, it appears this was created to determine how the flying soldier ant swarm creatures behave. Although it should be on the Fallout 4 perks page, should it be included on the NW overhead (it could be misleading). Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 20:37, August 20, 2017 (UTC)

Discussions guidelines[]

J, there's a reason I took the formatting out of the guidelines page. We have them in two places, both on the wiki and in /d. The guidelines in /d do not accept any rich text formatting. We have to keep them the same in both places and the easiest way to do that is copy paste the entire thing from one to another. If we format the text on the wiki, keeping them the same is a pain in the ass. Now we can't copy/paste again. If we're gonna keep them in two places and keeping them the same is problematic, I'm gonna suggest we just keep them on the wiki and link to the wiki version from the in app /d guidelines page. The Gunny  UserGunny chevrons 02:43, August 25, 2017 (UTC)

They're linked in a persistent popup for new users, but anyone who has dismissed that has to dig for them. On my iPhone, I have to go to the "other menu" at the bottom and select "settings". Then at the very bottom is guidelines. On my android tablet, you have to select the menu from the top left, go to settings, and it's listed there. On mobile browser, there doesn't seem to be a link anywhere. Since there's no edit history on the /d version, maybe we should just seriously consider making that page redirect to the single on on the wiki. TES wiki does theirs like that. We would never have to worry about both copies being the same. I bet there's only a few people who even know there's two copies. The Gunny  UserGunny chevrons 23:17, August 25, 2017 (UTC)

Speaker announces[]

Hey, long time no see. I was playing FO4 and walking through D.B. Technical High School, there are speaker announcements saying things like "The fall standardized tests are coming. Sign up for saturday sessions starting next month with sister Aiden." and "Principal Cavanaugh would like to remind the swim team that if he finds blood all over the basement floor again they will all get detention." A link to the transcript would enrich the article but I'm not handy with the file editor. A quote of one of those announces would look good at the head of the article too. --YOD ᕦ(ò_óˇ)ᕤ 12:43, August 26, 2017 (UTC)

Komende jaar[]

Volunteer Curators[]

I just posted a blog post Volunteer Curators here on Fallout Wiki and I'm wondering if it'd be ok with you and the rest of the admin team if I posted a community message about it (like a site-wide message, but just for this wiki). We're hoping to attract Fallout news fanatics to help round out our Fallout coverage on Fandom.com .

And then read my last warning to him. He simply has no intention to abide our policies. I dont care if you or another admin think some revisions are less worthy of applying our policies on. The policy is the policy. He has been warned countless times. All you will accomplish by ignoring his behavior is the promise of dealing with more of it in the future. I told him after the last go around that hes used up his warnings, im watching him with 0 tolerance. He broke policy again. Period. Wikia's forced addition of videos to the wiki[]

Hello, This is a message to all listed active members of the leadership team, so please accept my apologies if this seems a little impersonal.

As you may be aware, Wikia/Fandom have added a number of videos to pages on the wiki that they have self authored. Although the consensus view so far seems to be that these are not to our standards, I encourage you to view these for yourself and make up your own mind.

You can find a link to all the videos, and a petition I would like you to consider here. If you believe that these videos do not meet our standards, detract from the wiki, and should be removed, I encourage you to vote yes on this petition. You are of course welcome to vote no if you do not believe this is the case.

Thank you for your consideration. Agent c (talk) 21:15, September 7, 2017 (UTC)

Video Negotiated Settlement[]

Thank you very much for your vote on the petition. We have had talks with Wikia/Fandom, and a settlement has been proposed. I encourage you to review it and have your say here. Agent c (talk) 20:32, September 8, 2017 (UTC)
