Starting Out[]

Thank you. I've been using this wiki for a very long time and thought that I should start giving back after raiding the site for every scrap of info that I could. I think I might start on the Anti Capitalisation Project. I am pretty good at punctuation and the like, so I think that might be a good place to start. However, my activity here may be quite low for the next few weeks as I have a glut of exams to get through. After that though, I will be on here as often as I can.

I have no complaints with the wiki. I've used it for all kinds of things, from tracking down collectables to finding my favourite songs from the ingame radio stations. I've always found the wiki incredibly useful, and as I say, I though that I ought to start giving back to such a great site.

Absent Admins[]

Well don't worry J, I'll be back and super active in a few days time, so you'll have one back at least. Al said that he'd start editing again soon enough, again after exams, so it'll be fine. Also, my first year of uni is ungraded, so if I do no work, then it won't affect my grade - hence my intention ;). A note though, don't know about other countries but here it is rude or a faux pas to apologise for something and then say 'but'. That's just a heads up though, nothing more. G.E.C.K.[]

Downloaded it the other day. After reading through the instructions that came with it, though, it seems the only way I can use it is by adding it into a pre-existing Fallout 3/NV folder. You wouldn't happen to know if there is a work-a-round? ^Skål! 19:36, June 10, 2012 (UTC)

The problem is, I need the actual Fallout folder because it contains the libvorbisfile.dll needed to run the G.E.C.K. Mostly, I just want to rummage around in it so I can get an idea of what sort of tools would be made available to me. Hi, Sigma and I were discussing a recent anonymous edit to the Holorifle Adv. Calibration (Mod) page. I don't think that the addition was speculation, but rather that the Gun Runners case is indeed that default world object for all mods. Sigma feels that it is just spec and should be removed. Hey, I noticed something a little weird. On the Fallout page, it says: "While often mistaken to be developed by Black Isle Studios, the development studio did not even exist at the time." However, on the Black Isle Studios page, it says the division was founded a year before the game came out and that they did develop it. My recollection is that they were "Interplay's non DnD RPG Unit" and were then named Black Isle after Fallout's release in honour of Fergus Uqhart (as Black Isle is a place in Scotland, and he's Scottish). Agent c 14:22, June 15, 2012 (UTC)

I noticed that while playing my game (on the PS3) that if you turn the mutants in Jacobstown hostile, the quest will fail, even if you've already recruited all of the Remnants. I checked the article and the talk page and no one else has reported this, so I wasn't sure if I should add this to the notes section, the bugs section, or add it at all.

Generic title[]

Hi J, it's me - your worst nightmare/least tolerable admin. I was wondering what you thought about the 'project' me and Kas started before the split between ourself as a hobby project before I had to semi-bail on this place and the Vault in order to concentrate on getting into university. It involved logically deciding what parts of history had to have happened directly for items and places in Fallout to make sense. For instance, King John of England and John Wilkes Booth were both made by us for this reason. Therefore, as I will soon be setting up the project at the Vault, I wondered if you wanted it here? It will basically involve me thinking about what had to have happened, what people needed to exist etc. for the world to make sense. As with all projects, collaboration is key, but I would like to be very much in charge of this one in the sense that people must put a case to me as to why a part of our history must also coincide with Fallout history to avoid 'bad' pages. Projects[]

Firstly, I set up the new project if you are interested.

Secondly, I found this and to be honest, I think it was extremely... well, wrong. As Itachou said to me, you can't remove people from a project as they are no longer active, because it denies them credit in the end. Now I'm not concerned with a medal or badge or the like, but I spent an entire summer on that project, which I think content wise easily surpasses your input, but you just deleted me from the list of contributors? I think that is frankly out of order, to keep my tone civil. Now I'm not expecting an apology, as I know you'd never give one, but I am going to ask that you don't do that again. The only reason I can see that you would do that is to get another edit, which I think is hardly as important as giving people the credit they deserve. Either that, or you were being bitter which I highly doubt. I'm sorry that not mucking up my future came before this place, but that's not a nice thing to come back to. Remember that I can't edit both the Vault and here when Fallout 4 comes out - I have to make a decision eventually, one that I'm still making. Borrow images.[]

Hi, J! As you must already know, I've acquired the BC rights to the PT wiki, and as you must also know, there's a lot of work to be done there. Many articles are lacking, and even more pics too. I've come here to ask for permission to use in-game images from Nukapedia on the PT wiki articles (kind of an adaptation). What do you say?

Hi there. I'm with you on the skill magazines, my original edit was to add that there were a large number in the tents as well as in House Resort. I also mentioned chems/armor, which probably don't qualify. The skill magazines and chems are found in groups of 3 in some of the footlockers in the tents, and are all of the same kind (3 x Il fantoma or 3 x turbo for example). I found 8 skill mags in the tents. I didn't remove the bottles and the house resort skill mags until after someone had removed my edit lol I figured if skill magazines don't count in the tents, they don't count in house resort either, and the bottles seemed ridiculous to me from the start. Anyway thanks for your feedback, I'm pretty new to the wiki.

I got an odd one for you Js. Before you had told me that the variants and comparison tables go off of the repair lists in the infobox for weapons, eg Lincoln's Repeater goes with hunting rifle, etc. What do I do with Old Glory? It's repair list is:

• Pool cue
• Throwing spear

Pool cue's repair list is:

• Pool cue
• Throwing spear

Throwing spear's repair list is:

• Throwing spear
• Throwing knife spear

The knife spear repair list (all of them) is:

• Throwing spear
• Throwing knife spear

Here's what I'm thinking. I already have knife spear/knife spear clean/throwing knife spear on all three of those pages. I add throwing spear with those. I put throwing knife spear on throwing spear. I put pool cue and Old Glory together, but leave off throwing spear from those pages? It's in the repair form list. On Old Glory's page, it shows its repaired by the formlist "RepairPoolCue". When you look up that under the formlist section, it'll show that the formlist "RepairPoolCue" consists of the pool cue and the throwing spear. The formlists are in the "Miscellaneous" section of the GECK. You would look up the repair formlist on the weapon page, then you have to look at the formlist itself in the formlist section. Hey there J. Thanks to one of Agent's News Digests, I recently learned of El Refugio, the Spanish Wikia sister of Nukapedia. I thought it was strange when I checked the Verification Overdue category and nothing was there, but it seems overdue bugs aren't being moved over to this category when the notice turns red. Templates and other oddities[]

Hi. Your wiki was moved onto MediaWiki 1.19, and that's what's causing all the weirdness. I've filed the problem with the templates with our engineers; hopefully they will fix that fairly quickly.

I'm not sure what you mean by the problem with Recent Changes -- I checked and it displays normally grouped changes for me. It's possible if you use custom js that something broke with the upgrade, or that I'm just not understanding what you meant. It's also possible it's a browser-related issue. You might want to report the problem to Special:Contact so we can work on it.

The recent changes issue is caused by the auto-refresh script, when viewed in the enhanced view only. This has been broken by the recent upgrade and needs to be fixed by someone with scripting know how. 20:30, June 28, 2012 (UTC)

Hi. They reverted the wiki to MW1.16 while they sort out the errors with the templates under 1.19. Avatar is correct that fixing your local script is not going to be high priority for us but you have a chance to try to get it sorted now while we fix the other issue. Actually, I will be leaving today for Norway just as a chance to see my significant other before finally joining up with the Navy. I'll be back in a month, and I'll be around for around 2 more weeks. Nav box order[]

I'd say that's a fair idea. The sounds section doesn't take up much space, so people will still see the galleries underneath them. Some of those galleries are so large, people probably don't even know the sounds section is down there. MediaWiki 1.19[]

I've fixed the AjaxRC script. As for the help pages, you're free to copy them although I wouldn't necessarily recommend it - usually Wikia has own help pages which better describe Wikia-specific functionality. For instance, Help:Category would be the Wikia equivalent of The Vault's Help:Categories.

As for your edit being blocked, that's likely because it contained an external link (the link to the forum thread). We've had some trouble with spambots so we disallowed anons to post external links. Replacing the "Wiki Activity" button with a "Recent changes" one is done via the "AdvancedOasisUI" gadget (the same Guardian told you to check), which you were probably using before the update. It's not allowed to implement this change site-wide as that'd violate Wikia's Terms of Use (since that'd constitute as altering the user interface site-wide). The script itself is still working fine (I'm using it myself); if you're still having trouble with it it'd likely be due to other gadgets or scripts interfering. In that case you'd have to let me know which gadgets you're using so I can try to track it down.

You confused me there with saying "Recent changes still no dice". The broken links category it a auto generated category, this is something different to Special:WantedFiles. The issue with Catergory:Pages with broken file links wasn't GarouxBloodline talk template, but the improper use of the {{Infobox character}} template used within it. GarouxBloodline added '''.gif''' as the image for the infobox, I have corrected that issue now. Also it seems that [[File:Placeholder|thumb|220px]] that is added to every new user users page is going to create the same issue. Plus those already in place, but the existing ones wont show until the page is edited and rebuilt by the MediWiki software (may even update during the overnight wiki re-caching of special, although it seems to add and remove them real time at present), so there is potentially a massive amount of pages affect not yet showing. 21:22, July 4, 2012 (UTC)

Idea[]

So, since yesterday the slideshow didn't work the way it should, I have another idea. It may be a bit foolish, but I might have some later. You should discuss with Clyde (and GhostAvatar even) for this.

I would make a competition about a Fallout fan-fiction (not sure what to include yet), but the reward would be to become an admin for a day (of course, if he starts vandalising pages, he would get banned with his adminship revoked). To avoid that, maybe 200 edits are in order to enter the competition.

Lol. Js, I've taken care of the imposter above, but I figured I'd let you read this before we finalize their ban. Right now, I gave them a month for impersonating an admin, but I believe that this is a sockpuppet of the person that keeps vandalizing Limmie's and Zerg's pages. Not on the front page. I have an idea of making quiz in the chat, keep people entertained (not much buisness these days in the chat) and perhaps more people would come. But since you said that isn't possible, I guess I should think of other ideas. Energy X ∞ 16:25, July 7, 2012 (UTC)
