StageStatusDescriptionLog Entry
? Read the missing person poster
? Speak to Oscar GonzalezI've learned that a journalist named Jack Hunter has gone missing. I should speak to Oscar Gonzalez in the Crater for more details.
? Listen to the 'A Lead at Last' holotape from your inventoryI've spoken to Oscar Gonzalez about his missing friend, a journalist named Jack Hunter. Oscar has promised me a reward if I can bring proof that Jack is safe. He's given me a holotape of Jack's that I can listen to for clues to his whereabouts.
? Go to the prospector's hutIn his holotape, Jack Hunter claimed he was pursuing someone named 'Little Rob,' who was hiding out in the mountains. Jack found a shack near an old golf course where he was able to meet some prospectors who knew of Rob's whereabouts. Time to find this shack.
? Speak to SurlyI've entered the prospector's shack mentioned in Jack's holotape. There seems to be someone here. I should speak to her and see if she knows anything about Jack's whereabouts.
? Use Surly's Buffout from your inventory
? Defeat SurlyA woman in the prospector's shack tried to drug me and take me to Little Rob. I need to defeat her and see what she knows about Jack!
? Search the cabinI was attacked by a suspicious woman in the prospector's shack mentioned in Jack's holotape. I should search the shack for clues to Jack's whereabouts.
? Go to the CrosshairI found a note in the prospector's shack mentioned in Jack's holotape. It seems he was drugged and taken up to the Crosshair, a hideout in the mountains, to be made a prisoner of Little Rob, the man he was pursuing. I should head to the Crosshair and find him!
? Enter Little Rob's hideoutI reached the Crosshair, a Blood Eagle camp in the mountains. There is a door leading further inside. Maybe Jack is being held there?
? Defeat the Blood EaglesI've entered a cave system at the Crosshair Blood Eagle camp. Jack Hunter should be somewhere inside. I need to clear out the guards and begin my search.
? Speak to JackI've defeated the Blood Eagles inside the Crosshair hideout, and Jack has emerged from a latrine! He seems to be safe. I should speak to him and learn more about what's going on.
? Enter the throne room
? Interview Little RobA drugged up Jack came here intending to write an article on Little Rob and the Blood Eagles. As penance for killing his interview subjects, he's asked me to help him conduct the interview with Rob. Then I will get my proof of his safety for Oscar.
? Defeat Little RobThings turned sour with Little Rob. I'll have to defeat him, for my safety and Jack's.
? Speak to JackWe've wrapped things up with Little Rob. I should speak to Jack and see if I can finally get my proof that he's alive and well to take back to Oscar Gonzalez.
?Quest finishedSpeak to OscarJack gave me a note as proof of his well-being before heading off on his next adventure. I should take it back to Oscar and receive my reward.
I've given Oscar his proof that Jack is alive and well. Now it's time for them both to move on to wherever they are headed next.

Behind the scenes[]

The name of this quest (including the noticeably absent apostrophe in Hells) is a reference to the Hells Angels motorcycle club in conjunction with the Blood Eagles. The character of Jack Hunter is himself a reference to gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson, who documented his time with the Hells Angels in the 1967 book Hell's Angels: The Strange and Terrible Saga of the Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs.

Bugs[]

  • PCPC The quest can be started a second time after completing it, but Oscar will be missing, so players will be stuck at the "Speak to Oscar Gonzalez" part.[1][verified]
  • [platforms tag needed] If you read Surly's note and then choose not to take the spiked Buffout after, the quest will ask you to search the cabin despite the item already being in your inventory. To fix this, read the note a second time.
