The Fallout 4 next-gen update was a free update for Fallout 4. While mainly focused on stability, the update also introduced some new content. It also integrated some previously released Creation Club content into the game. The update is not a visual remaster, and does not change the visuals on the PC version of the game.
For PC players, the update will be installed automatically through Steam unless the user's settings prevent this. The update is incompatible with many Fallout 4 mods.
On May 13, 2024 it was followed by Fallout 4 next-gen update 2, a bug-fix patch addressing some of the issues with the update.

These three short quests were added:
- Echoes of the Past: Investigate the last known location of the missing caravan; this quest brings back the Enclave.
- All Hallows' Eve: Listen to the strange signal; this quest will unlock 38 new Halloween decorations for settlements as well as armour and power armour accessories.
- When Pigs Fly: Investigate the merchant workshop; the player can obtain two types of grenade launcher, a nail gun, baseball launcher, saw blade launcher, and piggy bank based weaponry: the Piggy Bank Fat Man, Piggy Bank launcher bomb, Piggy Bank mine, and Piggy Bank bomb (a heavy hand grenade).
These four previously released Creation Club quests are now free and integrated into the main game, making them canon:
- Best of Three: Listen to Vault-Tec Distress Signal (quest reward: Tesla cannon)
- Crucible: Investigate Saugus Ironworks (quest reward: Heavy incinerator)
- Pyromaniac: Find and kill Pyro (quest reward: Hellfire power armor)
- Speak of the Devil: Browse Wattz Consumer Electronics (quest reward: X-02 power armor)
Bugs[]
There is a bug that causes the weapons in the Makeshift Weapon Pack to appear as red errors, indicating the assets are missing.[patched]-
There is a bug that causes the game to crash when trying to enter Charlestown condo.[patched] - There are multiple bugs with the baseball launcher that cause it to incorrectly report planned reloads, incorrectly refuse to stack attacks (wrongly claiming insufficient ammunition), and generally show incorrect V.A.T.S. attack sequence information in the AP bar. [verification needed]
- Related to this, when fired in V.A.T.S., the baseball launcher drops more (re-useable) ammunition than it consumes, creating a dupe exploit. [verification needed]
- Unlike all other makeshift weapons, the sawblade launcher is not injected into the inventories of existing specialist weapon vendors. [verification needed]
