Commander White, also known as just the Commander, is a minor character in NieR:Automata. As the commander of all YoRHa forces, she determines all large-scale strategies as well as directs, deploys, and oversees all units from her station at the Bunker outpost in Earth's orbit.

Personality[]

Commander White is calm and composed, as well as quite stern.

Despite being called a "hardass" by 9S, it is revealed by Operator 6O that she actually leaves her clothes strewn all over her private quarters, and that she rarely does maintenance on her body.

Appearance[]

Commander White is a female android with blue-green eyes and long, blonde hair styled into a large ponytail, with large gold ornaments on both sides of her head. Her clothing consists of a high-collared white dress with gold ornamentation, the YoRHa logo being present on both sleeves, with open cleavage covered with lace-patterned fabric. She wears white gloves on her hands. Her dress has a high-slit skirt, with the opening being on the left side, revealing her legs and a small amount of her waist, and she wears black stockings with white, thigh-length boots equipped with gold heels. The hem of her skirt has an embroidered pattern on it that resembles the YoRHa logo. The YoRHa logo is also present at the top of her boots. Her white-themed clothing allows her to stand out amongst the other YoRHa androids, whose attire is primarily black.

In NieR:Automata Ver1.1a, it is revealed that Commander White wears a white leotard under her dress, as she receives a report from another YoRHa unit while getting dressed in her private quarters.

Story[]

Years before the events of Automata, Commander White sent A2, then Number 2, and her squad to lead an attack on a machine server in Hawaii. Although it was expected that none of the prototypes would survive, the mission ended in success. As the single surviving YoRHa android, A2 was perceived by command as a traitor.

Commander White was directly responsible for overseeing 2B and 9S's orders.

She was one of the few among YoRHa staff aware that Humanity was already extinct following the failure of Project Gestalt. Despite this, she was willing to go along with it for the sake of the androids.

However, she was unaware that YoRHa black boxes were actually repurposed Machine Cores and that the backdoor on the Bunker was created to allow the Logic Virus to infect all YoRHa personnel.

Commander White also ordered 2B, in reality 2E, to always accompany 9S and eventually execute him due to him always learning the truth regarding Humanity being extinct. By the start of Automata, 9S had already been executed 47 times with the detonation of his black box at the factory being the 48th time.

At some point in the past, she became acquainted with resistance member Jackass.

However, before the three of them are able to leave, the Commander chooses to stay behind after revealing that she is also infected. She orders 2B and 9S to survive before the Bunker is destroyed with her in it.

Following this point, Jackass mourns White's death after learning that she was one of the casualties.

While she isn't seen, the game humorously states that the Commander still floats about in space with a stern look on her face after the Bunker's destruction as a result of 2B or 9S self-destructing in it.
