YoRHa Girls Ver1.1a is a stage play written by Yoko Taro which tells of events before NieR:Automata. It is a gender-bent version of YoRHa Boys with various changes, such as a different setting.

Act 1 of the play is officially available on YouTube with English subtitles. The play ran from December 3-6, 2020.[1] A Blu-ray for YoRHa Girls was released on July 31, 2021.[2] The ISBN for the Blu-ray release is 4573473390733.

Summary[]

Act 1[]

The play opens with Instructor Black explaining how humanity escaped to the moon.

YoRHa Squadron F go on a mission to Shibuya, Tokyo. Shortly after arriving they are attacked by EMP bomb and a group of machines. No 21 is injured by the EMP. The squadron requests backup but is told to continue the mission as-is.

The perspective shifts to three Resistance members. Suiren talks about how they hacked machines to set up defenses. The group discusses a box they found that they were unable to open. They propose selling it for money. Suddenly they notice enemies are being destroyed around them as the YoRHa squadron members arrive. They say they were responding to a distress signal. The YoRHa units learn the signal came from the box, not the Resistance members. The Instructor unlocks the box and a YoRHa Unit, Number 2 Type D, emerges.

A flashback is shown of Gunner Number 4 and Attacker Number 3 in training. The instructor introduces new models, F002, to the old F001 models. These new models are Scanner no 21, Gunner No 22, Number 6, and Healer Number 9. No 9 explains she can make backups of YoRHa units. There was meant to be another unit, but the mission will start without them. The Instructor explains that the Female YoRHa units are part of an experiment, as Male units have already been deployed.

Back in the present, the YoRHa units and Resistance members recover from an attack. Instructor Black introduces Number 2 as the last member of Squadron F. Some YoRHa units are found to have their black boxes in an emergency shutdown mode. The units are revived by restoring from a backup. Due to the backups being older, they are missing the last 35 hours of their memory. They explain that over the past two months, the units have continually died and been revived, losing their memories in the process.

A flashback is shown of two units in combat discussing how to proceed. They say if they die, they would lose 71 hours worth of memories since it's been that long since their backup. The two units get into a fight and kill each other.

Another flashback is shown of No 21 and 22 in an underwater base. They say No 4 and 6 were lost on the way. As the enemy is closing in, No 22 dies in No 21's arms. No 21 sets a bomb to detonate and blow up the base while they are still inside.

Back in the present, a YoRHa unit discusses with Suiren their methods of working and fighting.

A flashback of 1 month ago is shown. Instructor Black gives No 5, 4, 6, 9, 21, and 22 an SS unit. Instructor demonstrates its use by scanning 6 for logic viruses.

Act 2[]

Instructor Black talks with Defender 2 and says she knows 2's real designation as an Executioner model, designed to destroy the YoRHa units if there is a danger of their black boxes being captured by machines. But she says this is also a cover, as the entire YoRHa squadron is an experiment and 2E will eventually need to kill all the units.

No 21 hacks a plane to escape the machines. She is infected by a virus in the process, but is cured. Afterwards, while alone No2 asks No9 what she would do if the war ends. No2 says she would like to travel, visiting places not ravaged by war. While distracted, No2 goes to kill No9 before the instructor is heard screaming.

A mutiny is occuring. It's explained that they plan on escaping to Australia as they've learned of Command's plan to execute them using No2. A fight breaks out and the plane crashes in an amusement park.

No 6 was infected with a logic virus and begins attacking several other members of the squad. The resistance members escape after Haou pretends to get infected by the virus, fakes killing Tsurhama and Suiren with blank bullets, then shoots herself.

No 6 attacks Instructor Black, taking pleasure in hurting her without killing her. Black stabs No 6 with a knife that was reprogrammed to make her black box explode, killing both of them.

The surviving female models are scheduled to be reformatted as Scanner types. It's explained that, while female models are better at working together than male models, they are more likely to question authority and commit mutiny. Therefore, future combat models will be male.

The play ends on a flashback of a normal day in the life of the YorHa units.
