Abot you bot[]

OK, just spitballing here, but here's a few things I was wondering if we could do. First, things that don't need sysop rights:

  • Search the wiki on keywords and return page links to chat.
  • Link the rules (you've already got that), the admin page, and other wiki policies.
  • Return specific chat rules by command (eg. $rule#1 returns: Rule #1: No personal attacks, harassment, sexual harassment, insults or bullying.)
  • Return links to user, user talk or user contribs pages by command.
  • Return a LMGTFY link in chat?

There's a few things that would need sysop rights. Before we could do that, we'd have to have a forum to approve use of the bot with those rights. I'm not sure chat-banning, site-blocking or edit reverting should be done by bot. All those things require specific input that I want to leave in the hands of humans. We could have it write warnings from sysop level users to user talk pages, based on the {{Notice}} template.

Let me know some of the other things you've been thinking about and whether any of the stuff above is doable. I'm sure we'll think up more as we go along. The Gunny  UserGunny chevrons 23:15, January 27, 2014 (UTC)

Checking for mobile skin[]

Hey, Rarity. OK, here's what I'm playing with right now. I'm working on using a separate "stats" page to pass variables to templates like infoboxes and stuff on our articles. You can see the discussion here: Forum:Transposing_template_parameters_from_a_separate_"stats"_page. One of the things brought up was using this as a possible way to display a different, smaller infobox on the mobile skin. I was thinking if there's a way to check for the skin being used, we could switch on and off certain variables to make the mobile infobox one have the "bare essential" data. I can't find anything mediawiki wise to check for the skin being used. I'm guessing this could be done by script. Question[]

Sure thing. Back in the old days of BNet when I was still a clan master, we had a trivia bot that periodically spewed out questions, and would reward points based on whether or not chat users answered using keywords that fit into the bot's parameters. Specifically, we used StealthBot, and I am hoping to create something similar on the Moose's chat rooms. A good example of what I am seeking to work in our chat-rooms, is something like this. QC suggestion[]

Would it be possible to add commands to post the rules in chat? Like you can do !rules to post a link to the rules, or do !rule 1 to post the text from rule 1 (and !rule2 for the text of rule 2, ect.) JASPER//"Do you like hurting other people?"UserRichard 21:57, June 12, 2014 (UTC)

Converting dialogue files[]

I heard you're a decent programmer. In past year User:Теодорико converted raw Fallout 3 and New Vegas dialogue files into tables; an example can be seen here: http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/MQ01SarahLyons.txt?diff=2103015&oldid=2102916 Most of it has been done now, but still a lot of Fallout 3 add-ons dialogue files need conversion and Teo's too busy with other things at the moment. You think you do it with your bot? It's complex programming, Teo told me he spent many hours getting everything just right. So I tell you that in advance and you probably can see it for yourself if you compare the raw text to the very pretty dialogue tables they are now. You make it sound easy. Can you include the anchors and the placeholder soundfile like Theo did? You can see all dialogues that need to be converted here: Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:Bot rewrite. Those are mostly Broken Steel dialogues and some FNV left overs. All other FO3 add-on dialogues still need to be uploaded. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 02:02, June 17, 2014 (UTC)
Hi! Just a fair warning. Formatting is a an easy part. The main problem is that dialogue files contains tons of garbage topics, which aren't supposed to be there. And to filter them out, you need to (partially) emulate game's scripting engine. At least, you need to implement the following functions: 'GetIsID', 'GetInFaction', 'GetIsRace', 'GetIsClass', 'GetIsVoiceType', 'IsInList', 'GetIsSex', 'GetIsCreatureType', 'IsChild', 'GetIsCreature'. --Теодорико (talk) 22:57, June 18, 2014 (UTC)

Nope. The thing is that exported dialogue file may contain lines (topics) which aren't meant for the given character/creature. In the worst case scenario there will be 99% of trash (e.g. MQ01BoSGNNBattleCommander.txt). The main idea of this project is not only to make a nice looking table (trivial task), but to remove most of this trash automatically. Unfortunately, this can be done only by processing low level data from *.esm/*.esp files and emulating game's engine. So, get ready to pile up hundreds of lines of code. --Теодорико (talk) 19:47, June 19, 2014 (UTC)
Bad idea. Dialogue trash has nothing to do with statistics, it's just a bug in the G.E.C.K.. And why mess with probabilities, when each topic has complete set of conditions, which can be used to (almost) unambiguously decide if given topic is suitable for the given character/creature?
PS Why almost? Because, some conditions require information available only at the run-time (late binding). Such topics can not be processed automatically, and should be left for expert users. --Теодорико (talk) 21:00, June 19, 2014 (UTC)

Incomplete library of Fallout 3 dialogue[]

I recognized your interest in the Fallout 3 dialogue files and felt obligated to let you know that should you decide to apply your talents to importing them here, I would greatly appreciate it.

We're missing dialogue both from the DLCs and from the vanilla game itself. With the referencing guidelines slowly reaching completion, I feel like it would be in our best interests to get our reference library fully stocked first.
