User rights[]

Just an FYI, removing admin rights does actually remove admin rights, regardless of b'crat rights. Not that it will probably come again any time soon, but it is worth knowing User:AvatarUser talk:Avatar 23:36, July 8, 2012 (UTC)

Block reasons[]

The issue is the upgrade again. It seems it pre-populates the list with the header Other. Sine we also had reasons under the same header, it ignored ours in favor of the pre-populated (i.e. empty) section. I changed the header name from Other to Miscellaneous, which has solved the issue. But it does need to be addressed by Wikia at some point, so Other can be included and the empty one removed. User:AvatarUser talk:Avatar 00:37, July 9, 2012 (UTC)

NL Project[]

Hi J. Are you done with the Point Lookout peer reviews yet? If so I can add in your name into the project boxes. If you're willing, there are still a few sections to get done. I'm hoping to finish up the project soon. --Skire (talk) 11:17, July 9, 2012 (UTC)

Okay, no problem. Sorry but I just wanted the project to keep moving, since it's really just me and you working on it now. Perhaps the ZAX gears are getting rusty? :-) --Skire (talk) 13:37, July 9, 2012 (UTC)

AjaxRC[]

Hi, my wiki has been recently upgraded to version 1.19, and Wikia Dev's Ajax RC was creating some problems, so an user told me that on fallout wiki you were using a compatible version. I copied it but it doesn't seem to be loading, can you see some error in what I used? (Keep in mind that it's an Italian Wiki). I'm asking you since I saw Porter21 seems to be inactive, who should I ask otherwise? leviathan_89 13:22, July 9, 2012 (UTC)

I tried to contact Porter there, but I cannot leave a message as anon... if I contact him here do you think he'll respond? Otherwise I'll look for Avatar. leviathan_89 17:18, July 9, 2012 (UTC)

Dialogue files[]

Hey, I just wanted to let you know I will be working on Fallout series Dialogue Files project. There are some questions I need to ask:

  • is it okay if I place {{copyright FO1}} or {{copyright FO2}} templates there?
  • can I add between {} brackets who said that (example: DEMETRE.MSG - between number in brackets and the saying to put the name of the person)?

That is all. Energy X 16:53, July 9, 2012 (UTC)

Well, the dialouge files are exact copy, right? So are the images - so why aren't there copyright templates?

As for the character sayings, see Vclynett.msg - brackets say that Lynette say a line, but not that Chosen One does. Energy X 22:16, July 9, 2012 (UTC)

I guess it is a bit obvious I'm not much active in the past weeks after the completion of Fallout 1 and 2 quotations project. Okay, maybe the copyright tags weren't wanted, since they are used in images. Oh, and for example:

{100}{}{You see a stern-looking woman with thick glasses, wearing a Vault City jumpsuit. Judging from her bearing, she seems important.} This is a standard.

{100}{Lynette}{You see a stern-looking woman with thick glasses, wearing a Vault City jumpsuit. Judging from her bearing, she seems important.} This could be a standard.

And lastly, the sounds. Yeah, that would be beneficial, but I really wouldn't know which programs should there be to record. Energy X 08:51, July 10, 2012 (UTC)

I haven't had contact with you in awhile. Just thought I'd say hello! Godspeed, you're almost closing in on that 100k.--Bunny2Bubble 20:01, July 9, 2012 (UTC)

Hunting shotgun[]

Isn't a hunting shotgun leaning against the chemistry set table? If not, then the Locations section for it should be updated too.

  • Ok, thanks for clarifying. I was actually wondering what would be notable or otherwise. I thought that if the reinforced leather armor was notable, the shotgun would be too ;) Doei!
  • Hehe :) I lived in Utrecht (great place!) for about a year. Picked up some dutch there ;)

Request[]

Hi Jspoel, I have a request for an image (god-knows it's been a long time since I said that). Could you possibly go to the Museum of Technology and take a snap of the Wright Flyer that's in there please? It'll be a tangled mess on the floor, but I'd like it for 3 pages. If you want to do it atmospherically, perhaps a sombre picture? ;) -- GOTW User | Talk 21:22, July 10, 2012 (UTC)

Wow, I never expected them to be so incredible! Or back so soon! They're fantastic J, just what I was after! :D Mind if I add both? And my favourite will always be the one you did of the Washington Monument for me, but those on Vault 106 are exceptional too! :) -- GOTW User | Talk 22:07, July 10, 2012 (UTC)
Thanks a bunch, I'll do that! And yes, I remember seeing that one at the time. Got the lucky edit for adding the categories I recall. Love the one you just did of the entrance too :) -- GOTW User | Talk 22:14, July 10, 2012 (UTC)
Bit cheeky, and I probably know the answer, but I don't suppose I could carry those images over to the Vault and credit you for them for the similar project Kastera and I are doing could I? -- GOTW User | Talk 22:40, July 10, 2012 (UTC)
Wow, thanks a lot Jspoel! I'll always give you guys my FO1 and 2 shots, though they are nowhere near as grand, so it's nice to know that you'll do the same for me :) -- GOTW User | Talk 13:15, July 11, 2012 (UTC)

Archiving.[]

Hi, J! I need you to delete my TP Archive #1. It was an accident; what happened was that I was archiving my then huge talk page, then I selected the greetings section and left the rest out (lack of attention), so the archive included just the greetings. I then created page #2 with the right content that should be there, so when you delete the first page, I'll rename the other one to page #1, as it should be. Thing is that I wasn't aware that archive pages could be edited, otherwise I would've just moved the right content over there.
I'm sorry for all this... :-( --C'n-Frankie -ArroyoTalk 07:24, July 11, 2012 (UTC)

First, I'm amazed at 20 Archive pages (I think there is a person who managed to make even 40). Secondly, congrats on 90 000th edit! And 3rd, what do you think on the message I posted earlier (the one with Dialogue Files)? Energy X 09:05, July 11, 2012 (UTC)

15 Years of Fallout[]

Hi J,

I've just noticed that the 15th Anniversary of the release of Fallout 1 is coming up (September 30). I was thinking that we should do something to celebrate, but I'm still trying to figure out exactly what - I've got a decent relationship with George @ Wikia games so I was thinking about asking them if they wanted to get involved in something... Was wondering if you thought this was a good idea, and had any ideas how to mark the occasion? Agent c (talk) 18:10, July 15, 2012 (UTC)

Hi J, Spoke to George yesterday, Wikia's very eager to get something going. We're looking at some contests, trying to get Developers involved, the works. At Gunny's request we're also going to look at our social media presence - the Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube links on the front page lead to Ausirs/The Vaults Content, which we really should do something about... I'm thinking maybe we tie all of that in together and launch Nukapedia's social media presence as a part of the "15 years of Fallout" celebrations... I've also got a forum post up, and will start actively campaining for people to get involved from the next news. Agent c (talk) 19:54, July 18, 2012 (UTC)
Which reminds me, I've been supposed to have been doing a news piece for the Xcom wiki for the last week. Manning the Twitter station I can do, as well as a placeholder Nukapedia Channel - I know many of us skeptical about video content in the articles, but there's no reason we can't at least put up trailers, and the video content used in the moose. Facebook I've been hoping to stay away from, so I might try and farm it out to someone we can trust, same with G+. Agent c (talk) 21:14, July 18, 2012 (UTC)
I've asked Miss Nicolle as a Facebook user, and someone fairly mature if she can handle getting us a Facebook profile set. I'll be doing news in a couple of hours, let me know if theres anything you want me to include. Agent c (talk) 19:01, July 20, 2012 (UTC)
Got Hawk's patrollership last week. I'll suggest the prizes to the Wikia guys. Agent c (talk) 21:27, July 20, 2012 (UTC)

I made some change in the loot section in Takoma map & buildings. Still unfinished. When I find double loot (skill book), I make reference to the closest location on Fallout map. I already find some loot in 3 locations !!! It more clean for http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_3_skill_books#Locations

I notice later why you made revert on my edit. I didn't saw the building section, sorry my bad :-o !! --Deathunt (talk) 19:24, July 15, 2012 (UTC)

Now that GhostAvatar is a bureaucrat, he still doesn't edit. However, he is an active bureaucrat. Shouldn't that make some admins (like Tagaziel) active (since he still can ban users from the chat and give regular bans)? Energy X 17:48, July 17, 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for changing that, but it's still not right: The proper link is User_talk:XxRainbowDashxX, whereas even after you fixed it, it was still incorrect - [[User_talk:XxRainBowdashxX]] (improper capitalisation). He needs to fix the signature himself. --Skire (talk) 13:49, July 18, 2012 (UTC)

Possibly, but if we are, it'll only be for a few weeks (maybe 3) since my mother doesn't have many vacation days. And it would be toward the end of August, since I'll be volunteering at a camp during the first weeks. --Skire (talk) 15:36, July 18, 2012 (UTC)

Super Mutant[]

Sorry about the Super Mutant page. It said "vertification overdue, remove" so I thought it was suppose to be removed. --The Nuclear King (talk) 21:12, July 19, 2012 (UTC)

Re:FNVWW Template[]

I basically copied the meta-template {{Sourcebox}} to {{tl|FNVWW base}} so it could be used only for the template {{FNVWW}}. This is because all the other templates that use the Sourcebox template don't require "the" in front of the title it's referring to (e.g. {{VB}} {{FOT}} etc.) and so the FNVWW template had "the" in front of the title (i.e. the Wild Wasteland trait), which would cause the "the" to be in bold, as that is the standard for that parameter. So by making its separate template, I moved the "the" up to the base text so it wouldn't have to be inserted in the parameter and thus not in bold. It should still work fine though. --Skire (talk) 13:43, July 20, 2012 (UTC)

Sandbox[]

Call it too much time on my hands but I thought it was too mean to just wipe the whole sandbox, so I went through and manually removed all the red links and the stub category. --Skire (talk) 16:39, July 20, 2012 (UTC)

Sandbox page question[]

Why did you delete all the content on my two sandbox pages? I was under the impression that you could make sandbox pages to work on articles and formatting before making any changes to the wiki itself. Since I'm trying to help with the translation, consistency and formatting of the L'Abri pages (many of which haven't even been created yet) the sandbox step seems pretty important. Did I accidentally break a community rule or guideline of some sort? Thanks! Librarymouse (talk) 20:04, July 20, 2012 (UTC)

Edited to add: Looked at your other talks since sigmadelta54 reverted your edits. To clarify, all the red links are due to the link function trying to autolink to pages at the fallout.wikia, not the fr.fallout.wikia. I started a sandbox on my userpage there to try an avoid some of the issues with red links and templates. It still curious as to why you deleted my sandboxes without any warning/contact though. Librarymouse (talk) 20:10, July 20, 2012 (UTC)

Re:Moves[]

What I did is correct by policy - "United States" and "China" are the most natural and common names for those nations, and as such should be the titles. Keep in mind that they will be linked to more often than a longer, formal name (like People's Republic of China). --Skire (talk) 00:16, July 22, 2012 (UTC)

My Account[]

I have two questions about my account...first, how do I get the picture on my character infobox to fit correctly, if you don't know what I mean by that look at the picture, there is empty space on each side of it and I want it to be filled by the image to help keep the page looking clean. My other question is about customizing my signature. I've found the customizing tool under "preferences" but I'm clueless as to how to make it the way I want it. I was hoping for a little Fallout U.S. flag and for the talk I wanted that little text box icon Yes-Man has. Please help, I'm desperate!!!

--Stars and Stripes Forever 01:13, July 22, 2012 (UTC)

Sorry, I'm still fairly new here so I'm not sure how to resize the image. Well actually, I've been here a decent amount of time, but I never work with images. I would experiment around a little bit but I don't want to blow up the wiki with edits while simultaneously destroying my infobox.

--Stars and Stripes Forever 01:53, July 22, 2012 (UTC)

Signature's looking awesome, thanks! The infobox picture's till messed up though, oh well, I'll deal with it some other time...thanks again!

Just to let you know I'm intending on kicking off a contest to lead into the 15th Anniversary season shortly - just waiting for my last contestant to confirm. At the moment its "Just for fun", but I'm hoping to get wikia involved (at least for the "play at home" part of the contest) to see if we can get some prizes.

You can take a look at it here; I was also wondering if you'd like to join me in the Judges booth for it? Agent c (talk) 21:00, July 24, 2012 (UTC)

Great. At the moment we're both judging, but I'm hoping to add George from Wikia to make it a troika. The contestants have until the 2nd, but if they need an extension we should be able to accommodate it. Thanks for being a part of it. Agent c (talk) 23:11, July 25, 2012 (UTC)

Binoculars and incinerators are not notable, as per our current policy. Did I miss something perhaps? And sorry about the key, I didn't read that properly. --Skire (talk) 16:07, July 26, 2012 (UTC)

Yes, that incinerator was a big help for me early on. It was that or I'd be stuck 9mm pistols and varmint rifles =P OK, I'm fine with them staying. Perhaps you could check the binoculars in the GECK to see how many fixed location there are? And thanks, the bugs thing has been annoying me for a bit too, and a reform is underway ;) --Skire (talk) 16:27, July 26, 2012 (UTC)
Let's add that to the notable loot page then. There are other items already on the page that are much more common than binoculars. --Skire (talk) 17:10, July 26, 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, I'm sure there's a lot - the list keeps on going eh? As long as we have some sort of standard to check for in the GECK it'll be better, since the current list is incomplete. And over the next few days I'll be working on improving the page, just polishing up. The Gunny talked about the vote with me, and I set it up just as a formality, since we know it'll be approved of anyway. --Skire (talk) 20:12, July 26, 2012 (UTC)

Didn't know if this was a mistake. Also, I was wondering what it would take for another Wiki to be considered a "Sister Wiki" and show up at the bottom of the Main Page. In case you were curious, here is the Wiki I am referring to: [1]. Thanks for the time! - CC With no background 23:18, July 28, 2012 (UTC)

Zap glove[]

I don't recall removing it before, but I agree with you. That's the reason I set up that forum that no one seemed to want to change anything on. I'm more than happy to put the zap glove, ballistic fist and displacer glove in the same comparison table, since they are all glove type weapons. They even use very similar textures. Unfortunately, no one else seemed to agree with me on widening the range of "variants". I'd like to put those three in the same table if you agree. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 17:20, July 29, 2012 (UTC)

OK. Thanks. I'll do this sparingly, only when it makes the most sense. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 17:33, July 29, 2012 (UTC)

Fair enough[]

I searched for an article to that location & no one else had apparently seen one either but if you found a remade page then OK.

Hey J, can you delete the first "Council seat" picture because I used the newer one due to a spelling error on the jpg. (which bothered me). Thank you. --The Nuclear King (talk) 10:27, July 30, 2012 (UTC)

NUN[]

Hi, Jspoelstra! Well, i'm back. I've got a bad news and a good news. Bad news: Evidently, i'm not the Porter22. Remaking of infoboxes requires an expert (if not genius) level of knowledge on wiki templates, and my knowledge of css doesn't help, cause css's share in infobox is like 0,5%... So this task goes as a landmark for the future. I need to start from the basics here. Good news: As for the bots, everything looks slightly better. I've made my self one, really simple- it takes pages from a category, then checks them for a quotes and then builds a table with results. You can check it's output here - User:Theodorico/sandbox01 Not bad for a starters, i think. So, bots are definitly doable for me, with a practise, of course. I have an idea for the next bot, but before i'll start, i need to know, what are local rules for a bot deployment? (Yes, i know that i'm gonna need an account for a bot.) --Theodorico (talk) 19:32, July 30, 2012 (UTC)

New toy[]

Howdy, Capt. J. I got a new toy. I made a template that creates sections of rotating content for use in places like where we have too many quotes, etc. and that can also rotate content like the page top quotes on articles. You can see it in use on Rose_of_Sharon_Cassidy. I based it off of {{CURRENTDAY}}, so it can contain up to 31 individual pieces of content. Let me know what you think, as this may be a good solution for having to limit quotes to only 5, and also add a little something extra by rotating those quotes as the page-top quote. I'm sure there will also be other places we can use it, it's not limited to only quotes. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 21:29, July 30, 2012 (UTC)

The way I have the page-top quote template set up, the quote will rotate to a new quote from the list every new day. The template used in the "Notable quotes" section will rotate through the list of quotes, showing a new list of 5 quotes every new day. We could have up to 31 quotes rotate on a daily basis in the page-top quote (not that there are that many good quotes) and have up to 31 quotes rotated in groups of 5 in the "Notable quotes" section. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 21:58, July 30, 2012 (UTC)
Yeah. Tomorrow, UTC time, I believe. So by this time tomorrow for you it should change. Mine should change in about an hour or so (I think). The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 22:17, July 30, 2012 (UTC)

Rusty Hooks[]

Hi! I believe that something wrong with "edit" permissions for Rusty Hooks. Can you check it, please? --Theodorico (talk) 20:02, July 31, 2012 (UTC)

Thank you!--Theodorico (talk) 20:16, July 31, 2012 (UTC)

Thanks again, but i believe that problem was not in the "move" restriction, but in the fact that "edit" restriction wasn't set at all ([move=sysop] not the same as [edit=none:move=sysop]) Bots are very sensitive to this. Anyway, problem solved!
Bot access: if not through API, then through WWW, but PWB can do it... So lets us all, just smile and dont think about it... or put captcha for write access.
Bot ideas: right now i'm playing whith an idea to rewrite all {{quote|}} to {{Quotation|}} in the (main) namespace. Because "quote" isn't an actual template but just redirects to "quotation". Do you think this is a worthy thing? If you approve it, i'll make a presentation for it with all required data. Like, affected pages, summary of edits, test cases, source code if you will.
Bots deployment: I want to be double carefull and double monitored, so there will be no writes beyond my sandbox, without your approval. Ban me in place if opposite happens! --Theodorico (talk) 21:28, July 31, 2012 (UTC)

Ok, thanks! I'll contact you, when the presentation will be ready. And i'll ask for a bot account only after, it gets approved. --Theodorico (talk) 21:49, July 31, 2012 (UTC)

Using Fallout Wiki Articles on Portuguese Fallout Wiki[]

I'm asking permission to copy and translate the articles here for the portuguese wiki, giving the rightful and deserved credits to the English Fallout Wiki. I don't know if CrimsonFrankie asked you permission before without me knowing but, if he didn't, doing this would help us greatly. Thanks in advance! Happylice (talk) 03:05, August 1, 2012 (UTC)

Local map images[]

Power fist[]

Could you check the fixed locations for the FO3 power fist in the GECK again? Leon thinks it's too common and I have some doubts too after thinking it over. I was adding them back into pages again as part of a personal mini-project when the master of loot removing stopped me ;) --Skire (talk) 22:40, August 1, 2012 (UTC)

OK, thanks. I need confirmation. And they aren't on the page any more because Leon removed them yesterday. --Skire (talk) 22:43, August 2, 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, to be fair, I removed them after seeing them on the Notable Loot page. Not sure how the power fist ever ended up on those lists. I looked back through our previous discussions, and the power fists were nowhere to be found in any of them. Must have been an accidental addition. Dragon Leon Skål! 22:47, August 2, 2012 (UTC)

Addition to the rules[]

I was wondering if I could add something to the chat rules. I have been having problems with people constantly pinging me. Victorthesecuritron has made this a rule when he is around, but I was hoping I could make it official. What would I need to do to add this to the rules?  Denis517  Enclave Symbol (Fallout 3) 22:32, August 2, 2012 (UTC)

Significant changes to chat rules like this one should need community say before going anywhere. And for what it's worth I vehemently disagree with implementing this rule - "pinging" is a feature resulting from personal CSS that a user can choose to have for his own use; it is not a part of default chat and should not be a part of the rules as it only applies to a modified chat. Just as the wiki does not cover mods nor accept bugs that occur on a computer with mods, these "mods" for the chat should not covered in our chat policy at all. --Skire (talk) 22:42, August 2, 2012 (UTC)

Ping is a feature you get with chat hacks. When you get chat hacks, if somebody says your username, or other words you can add to the list you will hear a ping and the word will show up red. The feature is used in case you are needed but away in the chat. Lately the feature has been getting abused.

 Denis517  Enclave Symbol (Fallout 3) 22:49, August 2, 2012 (UTC)

I am of the opinion no new rule is required. Not only can the hacks be disabled by the user, but this is "harassing" behaviour, "trolling" and/or "Being a dick". Agent c (talk) 23:02, August 2, 2012 (UTC)

Hallo fra Amerika![]

Hey J, thanks for asking! And it's good to be back again. Damn this unhealthy obsession I have with this wiki. ;) It was amazing there though; especially since it's around 110 degrees here in Tennessee, and it never really got hotter than 65 in Bergen. If you'd like, I could send you some of the pictures we took during my stay! I have some pretty good ones of our trip to Herdla. Or, you could always just look at my Facebook and look at my album titled 'Hordalands and Beyond!'. Yeah, it seems like quite a few things have been going on around here during my absence. I'm really happy to see the notable loot policy finally going through. It's about time! Speaking of which, did you happen to see my vote on there? I'm very interested in hearing opinions on it. Ah! Yeah, Chad had mentioned that to me over Skype before. I'm trying to wrack my brain for something special to do over the Moose. I even brought my domain back up to help out. Anyways! It's great to be back. Let me know if anything else has been going on, and if there's anything I can help with. I want to start editing again to make up for my upcoming absence. A question[]

Hey J. Recently I see Category:Pages with broken file links popping up and I was wondering what it's really about and what makes a page qualify to be in that category? --Skire (talk) 19:12, August 3, 2012 (UTC)

So it's any redlinks, or just ones for files? And how come Randal is in the category then? I see no red links. --Skire (talk) 21:26, August 3, 2012 (UTC)
I was planning on attending, but I forgot there was this outing of sorts for my church, so I went there instead and got to have some barbecue and played some badminton. --Skire (talk) 22:28, August 4, 2012 (UTC)
Ah yes the Olympics! I have been following quite intently, especially with the three nations I'm associated with - US, UK, and China =) They've been quite spectacular, I'm really a fan. And yeah the Dutch are doing pretty well, you guys have got some good swimmers! --Skire (talk) 23:00, August 4, 2012 (UTC)
Speaking of which, quite a shock with the disqualification of those badminton players (for trying to lose in their game, blatantly). They all wanted to avoid playing a certain team and now they're out of the whole thing... What's even worse is that there have been talks of taking badminton out of the Olympics all together! Man, you and I need to chat soon =) --Skire (talk) 23:58, August 4, 2012 (UTC)

( If you aren't too busy now would you mind hopping in chat for a quick chat? =) --Skire (talk) 00:18, August 5, 2012 (UTC)

Question[]

I'm not sure if you know much about AutoWikiBrowser, but do you know how to set it up to this specific wiki? ~ Toci ~ Go ahead, make my day. 09:50, August 4, 2012 (UTC)

Model "A" deployed. What's next?[]

Well, everything went strictly by the plan, so i'm going to put this little buddy on a schedule, guess, one run in a week will be enough. Ok, moving on.
Right now i have my personal bot project, but it is pretty big and won't give immediate results, so if there's a need in some maintenance bots, i can take care of them, as a community service. It's up to you to decide, so please let me know.
My project is a bot for filling in infoboxes with precise information, taken straight form .esm-s. If you dont mind, i would start with infoboxes for F:NV NPCs. Whole idea is pretty raw at the moment, so i want to know your general opinion on this matter, before i'll start putting some flesh on it. --Theodorico (talk) 12:57, August 4, 2012 (UTC)

Hi! Here's a little sample, just to prove, that i wasn't bluffing, when said that i can fill *almost* all infoboxes. Just to remind you - i'm still wating for your decision. --Theodorico (talk) 14:31, August 5, 2012 (UTC)

  • Many pages have half-empty infoboxes, like this one Daisy Whitman, and i can fix it to some extent, so it will look, more like this one Rose of Sharon Cassidy ...yeah, analogy is not so good... :)
  • Information, which i can add, if it is missing: alignment; gender; perks; race; special; level (static and pc mult); derived, namely hp(calculated not base), carry weight; tag skills... This list is taken off the top of my head, so it may be extended or reduced. Any suggestions?
  • How exactly i'm going to place it? - Strictly as prescribed in the infobox template, no other options exists.
  • About finding right place for a data - take my word, this is not a problem at all and mistakes are absolutely impossible. This is a programmers stuff, and i can't explain it in a human language. :) --Theodorico (talk) 20:56, August 5, 2012 (UTC)
  • <philosophical nonsense>Yes, i can get all the data, for every object in every .esm. Problem is, to find a right way to visualise it.</philosophical nonsense>
  • Excessive data in GECK - i'll go in the opposite direction - wiki will dictate what kind of information to take from the geck, not vice versa.
  • Even before i'll start writing a bot, i'm going to reconcile an ideal way to arrange an infobox. Like, a comma here, a point there, arrows, line breaks and all that. We can work on that, untill it will become perfect. So i'm going to setup an abstract would-be-an-ideal infobox in my sandbox, so we can discuss it in all details. I'll contact you when it's ready. (may take a few days)--Theodorico (talk) 22:07, August 5, 2012 (UTC)

Big MT[]

Raaaagh. I wanted to ask somebody because I didn't want to make a community issue out of something so minor, I didn't know you were online. I changed it because it enrages Dr. Klein when people say it like that. Would it make more sense to change the page name to Big Mountain, or simply write it as [[Big MT|Big Mountain]]? ~ Toci ~ Go ahead, make my day. 18:48, August 6, 2012 (UTC)

Alright, Jspoel. Thanks! ~ Toci ~ Go ahead, make my day. 18:58, August 6, 2012 (UTC)

GECK is a liar and a cheat![]

For example Atomic Wrangler crier

  • Info from falloutnv.esm : Charisma=169
  • Info from the GECK : Charisma=10
  • In-game info prid 0013ef09 getav charisma: Charisma=169

And this is not a single case, there are many NPCs with stats over 10. So here comes a question - Which source of information i must prefer? On one side, charisma=169 is a anti-canonical nonsense, but on the other side this is a in-game information! So, what do you think about it? Please let me know! --Theodorico (talk) 00:29, August 7, 2012 (UTC)

Please, read this User:Theodorico/sandbox03#Clarification. It is too early for the tests, this project will affect hundreds of pages, so i need to be sure that edits will be commonly accepted. --Theodorico (talk) 23:23, August 7, 2012 (UTC)
Exactly. I started all this presentation thing because there are some controversial processing rules, which i'd like to discuss, before i'll start writing the bot. Hope, i'll finish this presentation by tomorrow. --Theodorico (talk) 23:49, August 7, 2012 (UTC)

You know it doesn't really hurt to add that note, a lot of people read past all the main articles and skip straight to the notes, they then see the reward note. InfoBot[]

Hi! Looks like, i have to step back and withdraw my idea of full rearrangement of an infobox. Definitely, i have underestimated its complexity. Pushing this idea forward will over-complicate this project and completely distract me from the original plan - adding information. So for now, i propose, that bot will place additional parameters at the bottom of infobox. This will not distort visual appearance, and will assure safekeeping of existing information. Please, let me know, what do you think about this.
p.s. After all, i can make rearrangements later, as a separate bot project...
--Theodorico (talk) 23:03, August 8, 2012 (UTC)

Totally agree. I'll stick to the SPECIAL, for beginning. Simple type of data (for a bot), no calculations needed.
Yes, it does read data from FNVDump. I'm writing a program, in Python.

I don't mind my edits being reverted if they have some sort of half-understandable reasoning behind the reversion, but this was nowhere near that. Thank you for your words but I am afraid I simply cannot edit in this kind of environment. --Skire (talk) 18:21, August 9, 2012 (UTC)

Test SUbject[]

Other way around, actually. After I removed his stub, he added some false information and some weird wording, and so I modified his edit and did a little re-write myself. If you look at the edit after that, he removed much of my wording and added in his own that was quite frankly, a lot worse, which is a sign of him taking my edits over his personally. After that, I thought we were all having fun making changes to the page. (Myself, Al, Energy, you.) And the only real change I made after that was when Sigma for some reason removed an entire legitimate line from that article page. (The whole reason we started writing that page in the first place was so it wouldn't seem like a stub.) As for him leaving... I really don't know what to say. Maybe I would understand it more if this was a common occurrence, but looking back, this is the first edit of his that I've re-written in at least 2-3 months. So if he's leaving now, I would attribute it more to his attitude during his first Administrator request forum. Either way, I'll send him a message in a little bit. I really don't understand why he's wanting to leave now... he's a great editor and asset to this wiki. Dragon Leon Skål! 18:29, August 9, 2012 (UTC)

Ahh, I kept telling myself to go into the GECK to confirm the value, shouldn't it be 6000 caps? --Bottletopman (talk) 23:47, August 12, 2012 (UTC)

Might wanna change the comparison tables then, it lists the GRA Fat Man as 6000 caps. --Bottletopman (talk) 00:15, August 13, 2012 (UTC)

I musta missed that one. I had checked the infoboxes against the GECK before I did the comparison tables. Sorry. I have not yet finished checking the overview page stats against the infoboxes yet, though. I've been pecking away at it, but there's probably a few more incorrect stats left. GECK is a liar and a cheat! Pt. 2[]

Hi! I ran into another GECK vs FalloutNV.exe bug. Here is a list of boys and girls for whom GECK and Fallout uses different sets of stats (personal or class). So traditional question is: Which way to go - GECK or in-game? --Theodorico (talk) 21:13, August 13, 2012 (UTC)

Opps! Forgot the link: User:Theodorico/sandbox04--Theodorico (talk) 21:15, August 13, 2012 (UTC)

My explanation is: With "Auto calc stats" checked, GECK uses "CLAS"In-game spelling, punctuation and/or grammar records as a source for SPECIAL, while FalloutNV.exe seems, doesn't give a damn about this and uses "NPC_"In-game spelling, punctuation and/or grammar records anyway. Technically, GECK is right and game is wrong, but Nukapedia is about games, not about GECK. Right? Please, consider one thing- Hit Points (which derives from the Endurance) is visible in-game with "Living Anatomy", so even XBOX/PS players can clearly see the diference between the in-game value and Nukapedia. --Theodorico (talk) 22:33, August 13, 2012 (UTC)
Upon the information from GhostAvatar, i decided to exclude all these NPCs from InfoBot's scope, as they are buggy and require personal attention to describe them correctly. --Theodorico (talk) 00:24, August 14, 2012 (UTC)

Exploiting the game and telling others in TALK tricky moves.[]

Hi, I have a problem. Good Morning.Due to the recession I have more time on my hands and Fallout helps make life become a bit more liveable. I have had nearly all my edits withdrawn by Kastera 1000. Please find enclosed the latest exchange. It's poorly put and does not do credit to the thousands of hours put into the talk pages by gamers and I would make a very poor spokesperson for them. But I feel the talk pages are now being ruined because comments that do not reflect onto adding material to the heading page is not worthy of appearing. It's called a TALK page becuse that is what it is a talk page.R.S.V.P.--1000HrsFallout3 (talk) 07:14, August 14, 2012 (UTC)

All the information you've been posting to discussions pages shouldn't even be there; talk pages are for discussing changes to better the respective page, not share exploits or whatever. Sharing that kind of information is best done using your blog. --Kastera (talk) 23:05, August 13, 2012 (UTC)

But that's not what is already on the pages. Thousands and thousands of stories. They are all full of discussions and you haven't written them all off!. Check my additional today. The lines above are all full of discussions going back years and rightly so. If this is how you feel then you are changing a very long established tradition and I feel you are being more than very unfair on me. Reading Blogs of peoole you don't ever know exist.?. All you have on your blog is Polls! You are being oppressive. I will continue to comment as I and most others always have. It's how we all learn in the past. What made the game exiting. The exploration by others telling their own stories. Not by seeking out blogs of people we don't know.As to Blogs.Your won are full of Polls. No use to my gaming.

As for editing respective pages. Some edits are now so cut to the bone that they are useless to gaming and without the corresponding stories in the talk pages are lifeless worn out husk of boring academic info. The talk pages as much as you may disagree are the pages that bring the game to life. It's where you find there are real flesh and blood people out there. Not academic robots. Meanwhile,I will continue to comment as I and most others always have.--1000HrsFallout3 (talk) 06:42, August 14, 2012 (UTC)

Block[]

Hey Jspoelstra, I couldn't help but notice you blocked 2.123.213.82, but was that correct? It was 81.206.60.232's edit you rollbacked, 2.123.213.82 was just the guy before him/her. Paladin117>>iff bored; 17:30, August 14, 2012 (UTC)

Puesta del Sol North[]

Hello this ztormtrooper here i saw what you posted on my talk page and i made the Puesta del Sol North section better? Mind checking it out saying if its detailed enough? is it confusing? Ztormtrooper (talk) 17:31, August 14, 2012 (UTC)

Against all bots[]

Pulse gun
You have been given a pulse pistol.
Your efforts and diligence have not gone unnoticed, and you have been given a small token of appreciation.
For an easier battle with the bots. Energy X 19:11, August 14, 2012 (UTC)

I'm impressed that you defeated PorterBot... Hell, you might even go to The Hole! Energy X 19:11, August 14, 2012 (UTC)

Milestone[]

DANG! Congratulations on the 50k milestone, Js. I want to say thank you. This place would be nothing without you and your 95,000 contributions. ~ Toci ~ Go ahead, make my day. 21:45, August 14, 2012 (UTC)

Hmm, 50,000... not too bad ;) --Skire (talk) 21:50, August 14, 2012 (UTC)
Haha! Jspoelstra/2 is my current goal and I will be working on it more after this week of camp volunteering is done and before school starts. --Skire (talk) 21:59, August 14, 2012 (UTC)
Yup, it's all this week. And the trip is off due to my parents having insufficient vacation days and the high price of plane tickets to China D= --Skire (talk) 22:22, August 14, 2012 (UTC)
I'm logging on with my laptop at the counsellors' office right now. It's a Christian camp of sorts, and I am on what they call the "media team" - my job is to document to campers' activities via photographs and presenting them at the end to parents. The camp is mainly for younger kids (Kindergarten to entering 6th grade). --Skire (talk) 22:34, August 14, 2012 (UTC)

Congratulations! You are like beacon, to all of us! Shine on! --Theodorico (talk) 01:07, August 15, 2012 (UTC)

No, i am a head banger, so shining part was literal. :)

OWB patch.[]

Yeap! Obsidian took me by surprise! Right now i'm reinforcing my bot against such "surprises", so progress is stalled for now. --Theodorico (talk) 23:07, August 14, 2012 (UTC)

Bounty Killer[]

Yeah, I thought it was unusual too. It's the first time I've ever seen one that wasn't a multiple of 5. Still, its listed on other related pages as being 64, and I just checked it in game and it was indeed 64. Strange, but maybe it's some sort of reference the devs put in that no one has figured out yet. Or, maybe it was just a typo that never got fixed. XD TheShotgunShogun (talk) 00:21, August 15, 2012 (UTC)

Not a problem. Never hesitate to ask me any question about any of my edits, my one and only goal here is to make this wiki as informative and accurate as possible. Also, nice profile picture. :)

Heyo[]

Hey, J! Any chance you can jump into chat for a second? Nothing bad or anything. ;) I just wanted to ask you a quick question. Dragon Leon Skål! 23:26, August 15, 2012 (UTC)

The Vault[]

Sorry in advance for the trouble, J. I've shared my concerns with you before on the badmouthing of Nukapedia that goes on at The Vault. Well, I finally had enough and I wrote out exactly how I feel about the situation. If you'd like, here's the blog. Can you read it sometime and let me know what you think, or even write out a response of your own? The blog itself really isn't that bad, but it's that on top of everything else that's really bothering me. Thanks for your time, J. Dragon Leon Skål! 06:12, August 16, 2012 (UTC)

Well, it's not really the jabs that get to me. It's the constant undermining I witness every time I jump on to The Vault. If you managed to read through my list without boring yourself to tears or falling asleep, I'm sure you saw my examples of sneaky and unprofessional behaviour. I don't think that forum will go anywhere though. The original poster was just asking an honest question, and I feel kind of bad now for sabotaging his forum after I saw Nitty's response. I might move it to an independent forum later, so he can get the proper responses he's looking for. Dragon Leon Skål! 16:28, August 16, 2012 (UTC)

Eb & Billy[]

http://www.falloutwiki.com/Forum:Goodbye_to_everybody_at_Nukapedia. I haven't really had a chance to find out what exactly happened but I did check and he's blocked with nothing in the block log, so it's definitely a wikia global block. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 20:57, August 16, 2012 (UTC)

I think I know what this is about. There was a lot of innapropriate material on Billy's sandbox Wiki - RamboRob was banned for 3 days for linking to something on it. It seems Wikia finally caught up with them. Agent c (talk) 21:15, August 16, 2012 (UTC)
I would say that this is certainly what happened. It seems Billy is not blocked, but his wiki has definitely been taken down. As Chad has pointed out, many things there violated Wikia's TOU. The information on the length of EB's ban comes from his message (that I linked). I have to assume this is the truth. I know they like to joke around a lot, but I'm pretty sure they can't fake a wikia block. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 22:01, August 16, 2012 (UTC)

Infobot[]

Hi! Infobot is running again, works much smoother this time. I've tested it against existing Nukapedia data: 18 - 0 in favor of the bot. :) --Theodorico (talk) 21:32, August 16, 2012 (UTC)

FNV dlc done already. But there's a catch, dlcs have more creatures than npc, and i can't do creatures at the moment. F3 with dlcs are already sentenced, but this would have to wait untill i finish with FNV. Current road map: FNV NPCs SPECIAL > derived stats > skills > perks > infobox rearranging > F3 all together > rinse > same for the creatures... --Theodorico (talk) 22:28, August 16, 2012 (UTC)
Sure! I'll present every stage, step by step. --Theodorico (talk) 23:07, August 16, 2012 (UTC)

Marked men[]

I don't know how close you follow the activity on The Vault, but I'm currently running through LR articles and cleaning them up. I was wondering if I could upload the marked men variant images you recently uploaded? --Kastera (talk) 23:46, August 16, 2012 (UTC)
