Hello Neko. This is a message I will be rotating among Nukapedia's sysops and regular contributors. I would like your input on this forum. In an attempt to remove redundancy and confusion, I have proposed some tweaks to user rights, including the elimination of the moderator position. Thanks for your time, and let me know if you have any questions. FollowersApocalypseLogonihil novi sub sole 09:30, March 31, 2013 (UTC)

Guidelines Galore[]

  • "Hey Leon, I had a thought about the new third person guideline for articles, more specifically the variation of third person. The common idea is to use "the player" or "Courier", "Chosen One", "Lone Wanderer", etc. instead of the "you", but there is nothing clear to suggest how much an editor could make use of the third person, since beforehand we didn't need such guidelines as it was a simple case of a single word; "you"."
    • While I understand what you mean, you are forgetting that the editor may use 'one', as well. "One may use the metros to travel around the D.C. ruins."
  • "With this I propose limiting the usage of the name (Courier, Lone Wanderer, Chosen One, etc.) to once per paragraph, so that a reader would understand that it is discussing that specific player character. After that editors simply use "the player", or similar, as it has been established who "the player" is referring to."
    • I can't really say that I can support this. Telling people how to edit should always remain restricted, and this is an unnecessary restriction that absolutely no one will pay heed to. We're just going to have to fix up article-pages as we find them, and to follow up on the recent changes to make sure that no one is disrupting the flow with over-usage.
  • "On the way there (before the bombardment) a man named George will make a wager on the Courier getting back alive. His wager is 300 caps. If the player passes a Barter check at 40, the player only needs to give him 200 caps. However, passing the Barter check actually nets the player less caps on the wager (600 vs 400)."
    • A perfect example of where it would be proper to replace 'the player' with 'one'. Wouldn't you agree that the change would read out better: "If one passes a Barter check of 40, they will only need to hand in 200 caps."

Regards from another Wikiameister[]

I haven't been able to catch you in chat these past couple of days, so I'm going to go ahead and just leave you a message here, with the hopes that no one will poke their noses too far into where they don't belong. -Fat chance- Anyways, I've become a bit concerned with the direction many editors/chat goers here are heading in regards to how they deal with issues circulating around Nukapedia. Normally, I couldn't care less what goes on in the chat, as I prefer spending my time editing or coming up with new features whenever my schedule allows it. But for the past few months now, it seems like every time I do jump into chat, others are advising for me to look through certain times of the chat logs, or they'll send me copy/pastes of what's been said in chat.

So let's go ahead and get over the unpleasant part. I'm aware that quite a few people have taken to the chat to talking about myself and others. Gossip is usually not my concern, but some of the insinuations that I've read, along with that little stunt that you pulled in PM where you were conspiring to have yourself and others abstain from an important vote on this wiki have made me a bit weary of the current chat politics. I'm going to be abundantly clear here: I have made my mark on this wiki for being outspoken and pro-active. Every chance I get, I am doing everything within my power to improve upon our wonderful community here. I'm not saying this to make myself look better, but using that as an example that I am willing to do what it takes to act as the tool this wiki needs from an Administrator. If you have some sort of personal beef with me and my work ethics, then I'd appreciate if you actually came forward and confided in me instead of gossiping and making gross accusations about me, and then two-facing back into a pleasant persona once I make my presence known. Not only is this harmful towards any sort of professional relationship that we might have now or might later have, but is also aiding in the general acceptance of this sort of sneaky and irresponsible behaviour that is more harmful for this wiki than good.

In a nutshell, all I am asking for is a bit of respect. Especially from those that are mere chat-goers, and never do anything to improve upon Nukapedia, yet feel themselves up to belittling and attempting to defame those that do put an active effort into improving both the wiki and the community. If I am doing something that concerns you or others, then I welcome the chance for you and others to actually talk to me instead of talking about me. I can assure you that this will net you better results, instead of right now, where I am forced to leave you a message like this. Thank you for reading, and hopefully understanding. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 08:09, May 30, 2013 (UTC)

I appreciate you showing some humility, and taking the decency and common courtesy to answer me back. Since it appears that you're not willing to man up and discuss this with me, then I will go ahead and drop this. I just want to leave you with one fair warning: I've been pulling up logs of your comments from back in January when logs were first coming out. I'm fine with you venting and even discussing with others about my work ethics. But keep in mind that I am no longer tolerating personal attacks. So you better keep them in PM if you decide to keep going at it, because I am not going to be happy with you if I keep seeing them in public from now on. Here's hoping that I'm being crystal clear here. If you feel like actually talking with me, then I am usually around whenever I'm not working, and I would genuinely appreciate the gesture. A community that can discuss their issues is a healthy community. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 00:10, June 3, 2013 (UTC)
Thank you for answering me back. I can understand how Wikia gets sometimes, and I admit to being quite a bit frustrated when I saw you in chat later that night, and yet still hadn't seen a response days later.

Like I said, I understand the need to vent. All of us at some time tend to do something to upset others, and venting is a healthy way of dealing with it. If I've something worth criticizing, then I'm certainly not going to tell you that you can't have your say. But it is upsetting when it seems like every time I jump into chat, someone is pointing towards another accusation made, or another discussion had about me that no one ever once considered bringing me into. It seems to me that if I've done something wrong, that it would be more productive to actually talk with me, instead of being blind-sighted and finding out how others feel through either mutual friends, or during the most inconvenient stages of discussions and votes.

In regards to the pure human vote, I know that there was quite a bit of controversy. (Even though I only struck out one vote.) I wish more people understood my position over this matter. It's always really gotten to me whenever I see a vote fail or go out of control, simply because people don't do their research. My only goal in the guidelines that I set down was to motivate voters to actually read instead of making decisions based on their prejudices. It seems I failed, though, seeing the reactions and the same comments over racism and Enclave ideologies that I had discounted. I'm still very disappointed in this, but at least we were able to succeed with the lore page. But it does make me worry about past and future votes, and how editors here are dealing with them.

I understand my lack of chat activity. However, keep in mind that when I was made an Admin, I made it to that position solely because of my wiki-skills. It tooks Yessie and Al months to finally convince me to come into chat, and with work and other hobbies these days more than then, it's pretty hard for me to find the time to join for more than a short period. Also, I wish I didn't have to view the chat logs. I feel bad every time I look at them, but it becomes necessary at times when others are telling to me to look through certain dates.

I am sorry that I reverted to such statements, but I did make them for a reason. My efforts have been continuously worked against, simply because no one wants to actually talk to me or the people that matter in such cases. When I see crap like PM circulations with me only hearing about it through a couple of friends, along with people complaining about me, expecting changes from my end, yet don't ever bother coming to me? It's counter-productive, and it sours my image a lot over the chat politics that have come up as of late. Nothing is worse for me than trying to get some work done, just to find out that people in chat are doing everything in their power to make that work nearly impossible to do without either wading through red tape, or dealing with belligerence. A perfect example would be over the sock-puppet forum, where multiple chat-regulars were telling others to ignore me, and that my points had no merit. (Even though I addressed each point presented, and even asked if there were others I should take into account.) I have to say that really irked me.

As a continuation on the previous point, the chat policies dictate that harassment is a bannable offense. I hate to have to ever bring that thought to the table, but activity in the chat rooms have actively made editing unnecessarily difficult for me lately, along with many users believing at face value much of the crap being made up in chat. A perfect example would be the user Stars & Stripes, who made a lot of false accusations against me over lies that he heard about in chat, which I was easily able to prove wrong. I will not tolerate this. I am trying to make Nukapedia a better place, and whether some people like it or not, that's not going to change. If someone decides to go out of their way to make my life more difficult because they don't personally like me, than that is something that I will have to account for. You may bring in other Sysops or Bureaucrats if you'd like. But I have easy-referrals to similar situations that they, themselves, have undertaken in similarities to what I have proposed.

As a last note that I'd like to leave myself, leadership is a trait of many paths. Leaders are meant to make the difficult decisions that not everyone will like. What really makes a leader in the end, though, are the people under them. Whether they see the paths for themselves in the light that they're meant to be seen in, or whether they are too blinded by their own personal perceptions and inability to handle humility and confrontation. I have proven myself to be a capable leader. The only difference these days with my image is that as a leader, I've had to make many difficult decisions that have now alienated some of those that refuse to let go of their anger, pride, and grudges. Hey Archmage Neko. The first step of our featured articles process is to assess the articles already in the rotation. The list can be found here. Please assess the articles in the rotation, based on the criteria here as well as any objective personal criteria. Please suggest additions/revisions to the criteria by posting in the section labelled "comments/suggestions" on the page. If you believe an article is in good standing and should qualify to be a featured article, please insert {{Yes}} ~~~ in the corresponding box in the third column. Users who are not the first to assess a particular article should use <br /> to allow a line break between assessments/signatures. Similarly, use {{No}} ~~~ to indicate disapproval of an article, and {{Neutral}} ~~~ if you cannot decide either way. There are 365 articles to review, so please take your time, but looking over a few each day should provide us with quick progress. --Skire (talk) 01:19, July 9, 2013 (UTC)

Good to see we're getting right into work =) Just as a reminder we don't necessarily need to fix articles or even specify why they don't qualify, because if we reach consensus that an article does not qualify, we will replace it. We're looking for more diversity in content too (mainly we need FNV articles). --Skire (talk) 17:47, July 9, 2013 (UTC)
Right, I'll bit a little more aggressive with them to make sure we have the space for F:NV articles then. I only amended that Hubologist article because it does play an interesting role within Fallout (so it did feel right to have in the featured list, IMO) and the speculative bias was painful to see. I'll just list yes/no from now on then as well. User Talk:ArchmageNeko Archmage NekoNeko's Haunt 17:53, July 9, 2013 (UTC)

I just wanted to correct you on something, as it is a rather important detail:

It was made clear to us, in public and in private, that we were to undergo a 6 month trial period, and a final decision would be made at the end of that 6 months, in-case we died off in that time or did something to alienate ourselves from Nukapedia. The deal was never that we would have to have a re-evaluation at the end of every 6-months. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 01:36, September 24, 2014 (UTC)

Could I have a link to the public declaration that it would be a 6-month trial period? User Talk:ArchmageNeko Archmage NekoNeko's Haunt 01:39, September 24, 2014 (UTC)
"The SNM will be listed as an affiliate site with a banner and will be up for review in 6 months. The reason for the review is due to the fact that if the site dies of in 6 months for no apparent reason (I really don't see that happening) we do not have a banner that links to a non-existent site." We were only to be re-evaluated once, as publicly stated by Clyde, and this was also the agreed upon deal in private when I was together with all of the bureaucrats. The link is found here. ForGaroux Some Assembly Required! 01:42, September 24, 2014 (UTC)
I'm not seeing anything within that pertains to the six months being a trial period for it to become a permanant affiliate thereafter, rather just a review after six months. This feels rather loosely worded on the original results, so I will add on to the new forum about this and whether or not the community feels it should be permanant or a regular six month review for affiliate-only sites. I would like to use the Christmas/New Year-wishes-tradition, to thank those around me who kept this wikia and daily life more fun for me during the past year. Everything just seems so normal and evident that we are here almost every day, yet it's very worthwhile to consider for a moment how wonderful it is to have people like you around me, making editing and being on chat a lot more enjoyable. I would also like to use this opportunity to wish a happy and healthy new year for you and everyone around you who is dear to you. I hope you'll have a great and healthy new year in which all your wishes may come true! - Greets Peace'n Hugs (talk) (blog) 02:28, December 24, 2016 (UTC)

Admin talk blog[]

Please see User blog:The Gunny/Admin talk - Discussions moderation for a few site wide changes wikia has made as well as some details on discussions moderating. I will be opening a discussions topic in the next day or so with the intent to better introduce all of our site moderation team to the users there (most of them have no idea who most of us are). When that topic goes live, I will leave another talk page message for you asking that you navigate to the topic to introduce yourself and interact a bit with users there. I feel this is very important and a problem we need to fix. The Gunny  UserGunny chevrons 16:45, July 2, 2017 (UTC)

Soft blocks[]

I have raised a forum to discuss adding the option of soft blocks as an alternative to hard blocks and extend the admin toolset for more flexibity in handling minor breaks in rules and guidelines. Can you read through the forum and give your input. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 20:39, August 7, 2017 (UTC)

Wikia's forced addition of videos to the wiki[]

Hello, I realise you may not have edited the wiki, or even visited us in a while. We do miss you, and I apologise for contacting you with a request for help… but we do need it, and there’s not much you need to do to help us.

As you may be aware, Wikia/Fandom have added a number of videos to pages on the wiki that they have self authored. Although the consensus view so far seems to be that these are not to our standards, I encourage you to view these for yourself and make up your own mind.

You can find a link to all the videos, and a petition I would like you to consider here. If you believe that these videos do not meet our standards, detract from the wiki, and should be removed, I encourage you to vote yes on this petition. You are of course welcome to vote no if you do not believe this is the case.

Thank you for your consideration. Agent c (talk) 21:20, September 7, 2017 (UTC)

Call to Action[]

There have been quite a few sweeping changes to the wiki lately, and now that the Unified Community Platform has come to fruition here, it's more important than ever for our leadership to get together and inspire innovative changes for the next generation of wiki editors/readers.

As someone who is somewhat inactive myself, I understand how life gets in the way, and I'll fully understand if many of you are unable to commit, but I'd still like to try my best to appeal to you all in getting involved in a few of our currently active projects; especially so since rights-users participating in our discussions/votes are at an all-time low, and many internal decisions are having to be made between a select few users, which is bad for building consensus on important matters.

As such, I would like to ask for you all to look into two of our most important projects right now, as it would mean a lot to me and the wiki if as many people as possible got directly involved in helping shape our future:

  1. The Vault Academy is a program for the training and acclimation of new and even veteran users, training them on how to get involved in the various facets of the wiki, as well as helping them build bonds with their fellow users. The program has kicked off in a big way, and we are in desperate need of more rights-users to sign on as mentors, as we're having to share multiple mentees between each mentor. If you're looking to leave your mark on the wiki, then signing onto TVA program will be your way of doing so.
  2. As a minor update, we now have a new plagiarism point of contact. Should you suspect plagiarized content is at play, please get into point with the user FDekker who will be the initial handler of all such cases going forward.
  3. We have an upcoming meeting of the minds coming up on the 20th of this month, and we need people to come forth and pitch their ideas for adapting to the recent UCP changes, and to possibly adopt some of the ideas that our new datamining friends have been pitching to us.

Thanks for your consideration, and I do hope to hear back from you all! Even if it is just some of you dropping by to check the place out and say a quick hello. 寧靜 Fox 14:12, 13 November 2020 (UTC)
