The Brotherhood of Steel airbase(Note) is a location in the Fallout TV series.

History[]

Background[]

Seemingly a pre-War airport and/or Air Force base on the West Coast, the facility was taken over by a chapter of the Brotherhood of Steel sometime before 2296. It has since served a pivotal role in the Brotherhood's operations in and around New California, acting as a training camp for the Brotherhood's countless aspirants.

The End[]

The area is introduced alongside the character of Maximus as other initiates are beating him by a set of bunker entrances before scattering. Many areas of the airbase are seen, including the runway, watchtower, barracks, and main hangars. Maximus is sentenced to latrine duty and exhibits extreme anger and frustration.

Later during an engineering lesson in a hangar, the class is interrupted, with the initiates running outside to see the arrival of the Prydwen and a squad of knights from the Eastern Brotherhood in T-60 armor. Maximus and Dane later sneak off to get an up-close look at one of the suits being stored in the garage.

The Beginning[]

Layout[]

The base's layout includes extensive runways, hangars, barracks, and command facilities. Large swaths of tarmac allow Brotherhood Vertibirds to take off and land safely. A watchtower overlooks the runway and is also used by younger Brotherhood initiates to smoke. Initiates are seen clearing pathways, suggesting that the Brotherhood had recently taken the airbase, or are in the middle of restoring or expanding it. The base is also home to a large underground bunker complex, with at least nine separate partially submerged bunker entrances being visible adjacent to the airfield. Brotherhood of Steel members can be seen building what looks to be roadways between the bunkers and the rest of the base.

By the 2290s, it was one of the Brotherhood's known strongholds on the West Coast. It is home to a sizable contingent of the organization's forces, including clerics, officers, support personnel, and a large number of aspirants of all ages. These aspirants and hopefuls are housed in the base's barracks section, which contains at least 23 barracks buildings and some medical tents. The buildings in the area appear to be built post-war, as fresh wood can be seen and there is no sign of dilapidated condition. From here, the recruits undergo training from clerics to become active field soldiers of the Brotherhood. The bunkhouses held both males and females together. Dane recovered in a tented clinic area close to the barracks after they were injured.

One of the hangars was used by the clerics to teach classes on old-world technology for aspirants, utilizing desks and chalkboards. They punished wrong answers using a switch.

A garage was used to store power armor suits at stations for the arriving Eastern Brotherhood knights. An old airplane was used as a meeting place between Elder Cleric Quintus and Maximus under the suspicion he had purposefully injured his friend Dane. Another building was used as an armory for all types of weapons.

Notes[]

  • ^ (Note) The name and location of the airbase are never stated in the series. The title of this page is completely conjectural.
  • The pre-War American flag can be seen still being flown at the airbase, alongside the Brotherhood flag, despite the Brotherhood largely viewing the former USA as a failed nation in previous Fallout media.

Behind the scenes[]

  • The scenes for the Brotherhood airbase were filmed at Wendover Airport in Utah, formerly known as Wendover Air Force Base until 1969. The base prominently served as the training site of the 509th Composite Group, the B-29 unit that carried out the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War II. The locations used for filming include:
    • Ordnance storage area, where Maximus receives a beat-down from Thaddeus and his minions. The western part of the area is also used to depict latrine digging.
    • The control tower, base headquarters, and operations building are next to hangar #1.
    • Airmen dormitories are in the northeastern part of the base (with two tents set up in front of the dining hall, housing communications equipment, and the infirmary).
    • Parked C-123 and staff car next to the squadron hangar, in the scene where Maximus is interrogated by Cleric Quintus.
    • The buildings at the western part of the ordnance storage area, currently used by the Center for Land Use Interpretation.
FNV Nellis AFB poster Keeping America Safe

"Keeping America Safe!"

  • The hangar at the airbase features a poster that heavily resembles the Nellis Air Force Base "Keeping America Safe!" poster from loading screens in Fallout: New Vegas. The same text can be seen on the bottom of the poster, and text can also be seen on the top of the poster. The top text also roughly resembles the words "Nellis Air Force Base," but the first word is too small to be legible.
