Hollywood Boulevard is a location in the Fallout TV series.

Background[]

Hollywood Boulevard was famous before the Great War for being a cultural icon of Hollywood, Los Angeles and ran through many tourist areas. Museums, landmarks, and more defined its attraction.

After the Great War, the Boulevard turned into a flooded lake surrounded by overgrown forests, with the concrete skeletons of old, stripped buildings still popping out of the water, and some collapsed. It is now infested by gulpers and mutated leeches, with wild deer also living in the area.

In the TV series[]

It is the site of a conflict between the three main characters of the Fallout TV show.

The Head[]

Reaching Hollywood Boulevard, Lucy MacLean is briefly amazed by the peripheral view of the area and spots a baby deer by the boulevard lake. She tries to feed it some grass until a Gulper from the lake eats the deer from behind a thicket of tall grass, forcing Lucy to equip her Tranq gun.

The gulper would use its tongue to latch onto Lucy and try to drag her into the water, but after reloading her tranq gun, she fires it at the gulper's mouth, scaring it away. However, as the gulper retreats back into the water, it accidentally takes her blanket with the head wrapped in it, which was attached to her backpack.

Pursuing the creature to the opposite side of the boulevard, Lucy's geiger counter from her Pip-Boy starts to go off. She then uses her Pip-boy to track the head's location and then prepares to go after it. The Ghoul appears behind Lucy alongside the dog, pointing his revolver at her. Pistol whips Lucy, and the Ghoul demands to know where the head is. As Lucy tries to regain her composure, the Ghoul searches through Lucy's backpack but doesn't find it. Lucy then confesses that she doesn't have the head and that she lost it. Examining a nearby pile of goo, the Ghoul deduces that a gulper got it.

Afterward, the Ghoul ties Lucy to an anchor who begs, pleads, and tries to strike a deal with the Ghoul, but he doesn't listen. The Ghoul uses Lucy as bait by dunking her into the boulevard water more than a few times in an attempt to attract the Gulper and retrieve the head from it.

Eventually, the gulper appears and eats the anchor, and when the Ghoul reels Lucy back onto the dock. The two attempt to defend themselves against the gulper. Lucy hits it with the Ghoul's bag, and the dog bites on one of its limbs, causing it to retreat back into the water. Once the Ghoul checked his bag, he discovered that the [Inhaler vial|vials]] inside his tin container storing his were broken. He curses, and after a spat with Lucy, the Ghoul puts a leash around Lucy's neck, taking her away from the boulevard and leaving the dog behind.

Sometime later, Maximus and Thaddeus arrive at the boulevard hoping to locate the Ghoul. As they walk into the boulevard lake, Thaddeus' Geiger counter goes off, and he realizes that his signal isn't from the Ghoul but another abomination. Just then, the gulper heads directly toward them, and wanting to maintain his knight persona, Maximus orders Thaddeus to shore as he fires off his T60 pistol at the gulper, but to no effect.

Right as the gulper submerged itself from the water to attack Maximus, Thaddeus fires the Heavy assault rifle at the gulper, causing it to redirect its attention toward him. As the gulper tries to devour Thaddeus, Maximus saves him by yanking him out of its mouth using the anchor caught on its lip as an anchor for his foot. The two share a brief bonding moment over saving each other, and they then find the dog beside the head and cheer in celebration.

Behind the scenes[]

  • Hollywood Boulevard is based on the real-world street of the same name, which runs through Hollywood, Los Angeles. The highway exit marked on the Hollywood Boulevard road sign, Exit 12A, is likewise a real-world freeway junction in Los Angeles, connecting Highway 101 with Lankershim Boulevard.
    • A promotional image from the Fallout Season 1 Amazon page shows the Hollywood Boulevard area from the TV series but has Lankershim Boulevard written on the exit sign instead of Hollywood Boulevard.
  • Hollywood Boulevard was filmed at the Cortlandt Quarry in Verplanck, New York, situated at the northwesternmost lake within hamlet limits.
