The Forest Zone is a location in NieR:Automata, encountered after fighting Adam and Eve underneath the City Ruins. The area is home to a group of highly isolationist machines that established a kingdom at the behest of their "king", subsequently claiming the castle deeper in.

It also serves as the site of the Meat Box during the second half of the game.

Location[]

The Forest Zone is a massive sprawling area with various points of interest and landmarks. The main entrance will have the player go through the Commercial Building gate after bumping into Emil for the first time and fighting your way to the first clearing. Alternatively, you can reach the other end of the forest by taking the great crumbling bridge from the Forest Castle.

Points of Interest[]

Forest Zone Access
The forest's access point is just past the Resistance Supply Trader that sets up camp outside the Shopping Center.

Forest Kingdom Clearing
The zone's machines train in the art of combat in order to protect their King.

Forest Kingdom Waterfall
A small overhang for wild animals with access to clean water, hiding high value materials. A nearby cave contains a Lunar Tear.

Canyon Passage
A path down a series of small rock outcroppings, leading into the deep ravine. The Canyon Machine resides down here, and a block can be pushed aside to create a route to the Ravine.

Forest Kingdom Animal Shelter
A defensive Animal-loving Machine resides in a hidden clearing. It asks you to help its animals during Animal Care and Turf War.

Forest Kingdom Elevator
Behind a large waterfall is a locked elevator guarded by a machine. It leads to the Colosseum (Forest) if the player owns the relevant DLC. Only 9S is allowed to use the elevator.

Forest Kingdom Bridge
A once great bridge now broken into pieces, though still useful for androids to cross the crevice beneath.

Notes[]

  • The Dragoon Lance can be found alongside the area's Lunar Tear in the cave before the path down to the canyon.
  • Virtuous Grief is in a tree above the entrance, and is accessed via a cliffside at the other end of the forest.
  • In Routes A and B, the machines will fight in organized units, taking orders from a leader. In Route C/D they will instead hide in bushes and try to ambush passing androids.
  • Machines in this area drop the plug-in chips Anti-Chain Damage, Damage Absorb, Max HP Up and Offensive Heal (Small Biped, Medium Quadruped) and Melee Defense (Medium Biped).
