The Deep Cave is the name of two marked locations in NieR:Automata:
- The lower cave, and the one most visible, takes the party to a door where destroyed alien motherships are contained, with the elevator opposite leading further down to the Copied City.
- The upper cave, hidden in plain sight, is accessed via a sewer across the building where the last Speed Star course takes place, and leads to Emil's Residence.
Location[]
The Deep Cave only appears on the map after Chapter 6, when the Engels units attack. A huge crater opens up in the the center, creating an angled rock face pointing down toward a nearby crevice.
The only option at this point is to jump down and become trapped. After exploring the cave, however, a ladder connecting to a pipe is erected, as well as a Transporter for easy access.
Points of Interest[]
The long ladder put up by a Resistance member to provide an easier transition between the lower cave and the City Ruins. |
A dark, narrow path, carved throughout the cave, lit up by Small Bipeds equipped with torches. |
The cave system leads to a large drop and a pool of water. Various high-level enemies hide in the darkness. |
Project Gestalt Report 4 is in a locked chest just at the drop down to the pool. Requires 9S. |
Project Gestalt Report 7 is in a locked chest, at the ledge closest to the top. Requires 9S. |
Notes[]
- The door to Emil's Residence will be locked until Emil is spoken to in the City Ruins. He appears on the map after fighting with A2 in the Forest Castle. The preceding area outside the door is otherwise explorable, although the cave is home to high-level enemies 60 and up—a range well above the player's at that point. Emil himself, should he be faced that early, can be fought at level 99, with each of his attacks a guaranteed one-hit kill. The fight against him can only happen when you play as 9S due to him being the only one that can hack locked chests.
- The connection to the City Ruins: Cave access point will have to be restored as part of a sidequest.
