"This place will never be our home."
―Najma to Kamran[src]

Najma was the leader of the Clandestines and the mother of Kamran. She was a being from the Noor Dimension who was exiled to Earth along with Aadam, Aisha, Fariha and Saleem. Forming the Clandestines, they searched for a pair of bangles that could a portal back home. In 1942, Najma discovered one of the bangles at a Ten Rings temple in India, and gave it to Aisha for safekeeping. The temple was then attacked by the British Armed Forces, forcing the Clandestines to separate. While the other Clandestines quickly regrouped with Najma shortly after, Aisha did not, prompting Najma to search for her. She found Aisha in an Indian village five years later, during the Partition of India, and asked Aisha to return the bangle and come with her so they could return home. When she realized Aisha had no intention of relinquishing the bangle or going back home with them, Najma stabbed Aisha and left her to die.

By the 2000s, Najma birthed a son named Kamran, and continued to live with the Clandestines. In 2025, Najma sensed that Kamala Khan had Aisha's bangle and realized Aisha had started a family. Najma attempted to convince Khan to join their cause and return them to the Noor Dimension, but turned hostile and attempted to take the bangle by force when Khan asked for more time. The Clandestines then followed Khan to Karachi, where she faced a Red Dagger and killed him. In a fight with Khan, she ended up hitting the bangle and unintentionally opened a rift to the Noor Dimension. Najma was convinced by Khan not to abandon Kamran, and Najma chose to sacrifice herself to close the rift, although not before passing on some of the Noor from the rift on to her son.

Biography[]

Banished from Noor Dimension[]

Najma is a being originating from the Noor Dimension. She was exiled into the Earthly Plane, and was unable to use her powers. Some time during her exile, she met with a number of other Noor Dimension exiles who suffered the same fate as her, later forming the Clandestines.[2]

In 1942, Najma and the Clandestines were on a quest to find a pair of bangles, believing it could return them back home. She and Aisha found one of the bangles in a Ten Rings temple in India, but Aisha was separated from the team after the British Armed Forces destroyed the temple.[2]

"You've turned your back on us. Your family. Your people. Where's the bangle, Aisha?"
"Najma..."
"I'll find it if it's the last thing I do."
―Najma and Aisha[src]

In 1947, during the Partition of India, Najma found Aisha in a village in Bombay and asked for the bangle back. However, Aisha refused, saying she was saving it for protection. Najma got mad, thinking that Aisha truned her back on them. Later, Najma went to the train station and saw Aisha trying to escape the country. She approached Aisha, but did not see the bangle. In retaliation, she stabbed and killed Aisha.[4]

Meeting Kamala Khan[]

"Kamala. I've been waiting a very long time to meet you."
―Najma to Kamala Khan[src]

In 2025, Najma got a vision of Kamala Khan, who was in relations with her son, Kamran. Later, Najma and Kamran arrived at the scene where the United States Department of Damage Control agents were trying to take Khan into custody. When she fell onto the street, Kamran pulled up and opened the passenger door for her. As he drove, he introduced Khan to Najma.[5]

Najma brought Khan back to Aadam's House where she had Khan meet Fariha, Saleem, and Aadam. She told Khan about the bangle and how she wanted to go back to the Noor Dimension, but needed Khan's help. Khan was surprised they all lived in the 1940s. Saleem pointed out that Kamran was still seventeen, relieving Khan of her worries. Najma noted how Khan was adorable.[2]

Attack on the Wedding[]

Later, Kamran told Najma that Kamala Khan found out how dangerous the mission was. He asked if that was true and Najma said of course it was. Khan backed out of the deal, angering Najma, who arrived at her brother's wedding. Seeing the Clandestines, Khan pulled the fire alarm, having everyone escape.

Najma followed Khan into the kitchen where they fought. However, Khan used the bangle to fight. Khan eventually hid in a corner. Najma turned off the lights in order to see the bangle's energy better and soon banged a pan on the counter, causing Khan to use her Bangle out of fear. Najma then cahrged at Khan who ran away, getting help from Kamran. Najma was disappointed in Kamran, but fought on. She then grabbed Khan's bangle, causing both of them to see a vision of the Karachi train. The United States Department of Damage Control then arrived and arrested the Clandestines.[2]

Escape from Damage Control Supermax Prison[]

"He made his choice. Now he has to live with it."
―Najma to Saleem[src]

In United States Department of Damage Control prison, Kamran was tazed by a guard for no reason. This got Najma mad, causing the guard to punch her. Kamran then put the guard in a head lock. Najma used this opportunity to break herself free with a knife and then break Kamran free as well. Everyone eventually got out and got to the stairs. Saleem helped the limping Kamran, but Najma told him to leave Kamran as he had made his choice at the wedding.[6]

Ambush in Karachi[]

"Surprise!"
―Najma to Waleed[src]

The Clandestines went to Karachi and found the secret lair of the Order of the Red Daggers. They all dropped in through the ceiling, ambushing the group. They fought Red Dagger and Waleed, with Najma mainly going after the latter. She chased Waleed through the streets and saw him in an apartment complex. She leaped to where Waleed was and confronted him.

Waleed was more worried about Kamala Khan and Red Dagger, so he gave up his opportunity to strike so he could throw his weapon and Saleem, who was chasing the two teenagers. His daggers pierced Saleem, but gave the opportunity for Najma to stab him in the back and killing him. She then pushed Waleed off of the balcony to show Red Dagger what she did. In retaliation, Red Dagger threw a flammable gas canister into water which caused it to explode, spewing Najma with hot water.

They chased Khan and Red Dagger into a room where they fought. Najma charged with a dagger, but was unable to make contact with Khan due to her experience with the hard light. She then charged at Khan again, able to make contact. However, it did not pierce her skin. Instead, it hit the bangle, which caused an explosion that knocked everyone out.[6]

Death[]

Najma dies

Najma sacrifices herself to save both worlds

"I left him behind."
"So go back and get him! All Aisha ever wanted was to be with her family and you took that from her! Please don't take that from Kamran, too."
Kamala Khan and Najma[src]

When Najma woke up, she saw that the veil to the Noor Dimension was open. Happy, Fariha approached it only to be incinerated. Najma then approached it, believing she could get through. Kamala Khan tried to stop her, saying that she had Kamran. Najma said he was not in her life anymore. Khan brought up how Sana Ali grew up without Aisha and she should not put Kamran through that.

Najma realized that Khan was right, but also knew that the veil needed to be closed or it would destroy the world. She decided to close it by sacrificing herself. She approached the veil and touched it, calling Kamran's name as she did so. The energy soon crystallized Najma and turned her into a skeleton. However, she was successful in closing the rift and also transferred the energy of the veil to Kamran, making him capable of manipulating hard light.[4]

Personality[]

"When my mother wants something, nothing stands in her way."
Kamran[src]

Initially, Najma appears as a noble and honorable woman who just wants to return herself, her son, and the rest of her exiled Clandestines back home to the Noor Dimension. When she discovered Kamala Khan and saved her from the Department of Damage Control, she tried to convince Kamala to help the Clandestines by sharing some of their knowledge about Kamala's nature and Aisha's past.

However, when Kamala understandably voiced reluctance to comply, Najma revealed her true colors by sending her Clandestines to kill Kamala and retrieve the bangle by force. Najma is an impatient and hostile woman, who is quick to turn agains her allies if they question her methods and even abandon her own son for defending Kamala. Najma showed little care for Earth, never truly considering it her home disregarding the risk that opening the veil to the Noor Dimension would potentially destroy Earth and was willing to allow her people to kill anyone to get what she wants, including bystanders who do nothing wrong. Najma even killed Aisha for having second thoughts about returning to the Noor Dimension when she had started a family on Earth.

Najma ultimately did love her son Kamran, when given the chance to jump into the veil to the Noor Dimension, Kamala's reminder that she would leave Kamran without a home convinced her to sacrifice herself to save Kamran, granting him her powers as a parting gift.
