Marvel Cinematic Universe Wiki

With the release of Deadpool & Wolverine we'd like to remind the community of some things. Please DO NOT add info from the Fox X-Men movies when it comes to pages. Only information stated within the movie itself is eligible to be added. In addition, do not upload pirated images from cam copies. We'd also like to ask that universe pages NOT be created if the universe name has a Placeholder template on it, as that indicates it is not the intended final name. Thank you.

The Thunderbolts are a team of individuals with special characteristics who are recruited by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine to undertake missions for the CIA and the United States government.[3]

Recruiting John Walker[]

"Things are about to get weird. So when they do, we're not gonna need a Captain America. We're gonna need... a U.S. Agent."

After John Walker was publicly stripped of his title of "Captain America" by Congress at the United States Capitol, he was approached by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, who expressed sympathy for his situation. Believing Walker to still be of value to America's interests and aware that he had received the Super Soldier Serum, de Fontaine left him with her business card, hoping that he would pick up the phone when she called him.[4]

Walker later met with the de Fontaine at the Capitol once more, having played a part in defeating the Flag Smashers. There, she outfitted him with a new version of his Captain America suit and gave him the moniker "U.S. Agent". As Walker celebrated with his wife, de Fontaine told him that they would remain in touch.[5]

Recruiting Yelena Belova[]

By December 2024, de Fontaine had established a connection with former Black Widow operative Yelena Belova. After Eleanor Bishop requested the assassination of Clint Barton, de Fontaine visited Belova at Natasha Romanoff's grave, where she was assigned with carrying out Barton's elimination. Belova agreed to do so after being told that Barton was responsible for Romanoff's death.[6]

Trivia[]

  • In the comics, the first Thunderbolts team was formed by Baron Zemo as a fake superhero team to "replace" the Avengers after they were "killed" by Onslaught, only to be defeated when they came back from the dead. They eventually expelled Zemo and became a genuine team of heroes under Clint Barton. Later iterations of the team composed of conscripted criminals, anti-heroes and vigilantes eventually became the most well-known versions of the Thunderbolts.
