Marvel Cinematic Universe Wiki

With the release of Deadpool & Wolverine we'd like to remind the community of some things. Please DO NOT add info from the Fox X-Men movies when it comes to pages. Only information stated within the movie itself is eligible to be added. In addition, do not upload pirated images from cam copies. We'd also like to ask that universe pages NOT be created if the universe name has a Placeholder template on it, as that indicates it is not the intended final name. Thank you.

Marvel Cinematic Universe Wiki

The Marvel Cinematic Universe Wiki is, first and foremost, an online encyclopedia that aims to collect any and all official information regarding the franchise that gives name to it, the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As such, the MCU Wiki is not an arbiter in any decisions of canonicity and due to the confusion and controversy surrounding that term, it is going to be formally discontinued across the context of the MCU Wiki.

Purpose

The status of "canon" for the television series developed by Marvel Television have always been a source of dispute among fans due to, generally, wanting the canon to accommodate to subjective appreciation of media quality. The Marvel Cinematic Universe Wiki, in order to fulfil its goal of collecting encyclopedic information about a multimedia franchise collectively known as the Marvel Cinematic Universe, shuns away from this particular term of "canon".

For that reason, the Marvel Cinematic Universe Wiki collects information about every product released under this multimedia franchise. Multiple companies beyond Marvel Studios have developed products for the franchise, with Marvel Television being the most notable example, but also Marvel Worldwide Inc. as the primary publisher of comics and artbooks, or the multiple development companies responsible for the tie-in video games that were made as part of the franchise in its early years.

The introduction of the Multiverse as a concept makes it easier to understand the discrepancies in some of the minor or tie-in products. Whenever the setting of one of these products is not compatible with the overall setting of the MCU, it is treated as a divergent or alternate universe, sometimes exclusive to that particular product or, in other cases, to a group of related ones.

These products and the universes they present will be found at the List of Alternate Universes, and characters and events pertaining to these universes should and will receive their own articles.

Taking all these into account, and as stated above, the Marvel Cinematic Universe Wiki officially shuns away from any argument about "canon", as every product released as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise has a place in the wiki, and therefore, every product that has a page on the wiki is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise.
