Daredevil: Born Again is an upcoming American web television series, based on the Marvel Comics superhero of the same name. It is a revival of the Daredevil franchise and is a sequel to Daredevil, set directly after the events of Echo. It is the twenty-seventh television series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the thirteenth installment of Phase Five. The series is produced by Marvel Television and will be released on Disney+.[6]

The first season will premiere in March 2025.[7] It was revealed that the first season was viewed as a two-season series at Marvel Studios.[3]

On November 29, 2018, Netflix announced that Daredevil had been canceled after three seasons. However, Deadline reported that "the door seemed to be wide open" for the series to potentially continue on Disney+.[26]

On December 18, 2018, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Kevin A. Mayer said that reviving the Marvel series that Netflix had canceled was a possibility, but he noted that it had not yet been discussed.[27]

On October 20, 2021, in an interview, Charlie Cox said that if a revival of the series were to happen, he imagined that it would be "reimagined" and an "upgraded" version. He compared it to comic book runs, when after a certain number of issues a new creative team takes over and a reimagining happens.[28] Four days later, at MCM London Comic Con 2021, Charlie Cox said again that if a revival of the series were to happen, he imagined that it would be a "reimagining with the same foundation". He compared it to how Disney+ had reimagined the Marvel Cinematic Universe with its original series.[29]

On March 16, 2022, it was revealed that a Daredevil reboot was in development.[30] That same day, it was reported that the series would start production either by the end of the year or in 2023.[31]

On May 19, 2022, Variety reported that Marvel Studios was developing a Daredevil television series for Disney+ with Matt Corman and Chris Ord attached to write and executive produce.[1]

On July 7, 2022, The Hollywood Reporter reported that the series would technically be the fourth season of Daredevil.[32] Weeks later, at San Diego Comic-Con 2022, Kevin Feige announced that a new Daredevil series titled Daredevil: Born Again was in development. He also announced that the series' first season would consist of eighteen episodes and premiere in Spring 2024. Furthermore, he announced that Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio would be reprising their roles as Matt Murdock/Daredevil and Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, respectively, in the series.[6]

On August 3, 2022, it was revealed that that the series was scheduled to begin production on May 8, 2023 in New York City.[33] In September 2022, it was reported that the series' production had been pushed up from its May 8, 2023 start date to February 2023 and was expected to wrap in December.[34]

On November 4, 2022, it was reported that the working title of the series was "Out the Kitchen".[35]

On December 1, 2022, Deadline reported that Michael Gandolfini had joined the cast of the series in an undisclosed role.[11] Deadline later reported that Margarita Levieva and Sandrine Holt had joined the cast of the series in undisclosed major roles.[10]

On January 17, 2023, Deadline reported that Nikki M. James had joined the cast of the series in an undisclosed role.[13] By February 2023, it was reported that the series was scheduled to start production on March 6 and wrap on November 15.[36]

On March 7, 2023, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Jon Bernthal would be reprising his role as Frank Castle/Punisher in the series. At the time, it was also reported that Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson were not expected to reprise their roles as Karen Page and Foggy Nelson, respectively, in the series.[9]

On March 10, 2023, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Michael Cuesta would be directing the first episode of the series. It was also reported that Sandrine Holt would portray Vanessa Fisk in the series, replacing Ayelet Zurer. Furthermore, it was reported that Michael Gaston had joined the cast of the series in an undisclosed role.[21]

On March 27, 2023, Deadline reported that Arty Froushan had joined the cast of the series in an undisclosed role.[15]

On April 14, 2023, it was revealed that Harris Yulin had joined the cast of the series in an undisclosed role.[22]

On May 3, 2023, it was reported that Jeffrey Nachmanoff would direct at least one episode of the series.[37]

On May 8, 2023, Deadline reported that the production of the series was suspended for the day due to the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike and that the series would resume production on May 9.[38] Two days later, Deadline reported that the production of the series had been shut down for the rest of the week due to the strike and that it was unclear when the the series would resume production.[39]

On May 18, 2023, Deadline reported that Clark Johnson had joined the cast of the series in an undisclosed role and that he would direct two episodes of the series.[14]

On June 12, 2023, Deadline reported that the production of the series was suspended for the day due to the writers strike.[40] Two days later, Deadline reported that the production of the series had been shut down and that the series would resume production after the strike was resolved.[41] The same day, it was revealed that David Boyd would direct at least one episode of the series. It was also revealed that Cedric Nairn-Smith had joined the series as an editor.[4]

On October 6, 2023, it was revealed that the series was scheduled to premiere in January 2025 instead of Spring 2024.[8]

On October 11, 2023, The Hollywood Reporter reported that despite certain episodes already being filmed, Marvel Studios would be rebooting production on the series, with writers Matt Corman and Chris Ord as well as all directors being released from the project, since Kevin Feige and other Marvel executives decided the show was not working. Corman and Ord would retain credit as executive producers, with the series being retooled to have a traditional television working process. Additionally, Marvel would keep some scenes and episodes despite the big overhaul of the series. It was also reported that the series' first season was viewed internally as two seasons at Marvel Studios.[3]

On October 27, 2023, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Dario Scardapane had been hired as showrunner for the series, with Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead hired as new directors. Scardapane was set to write new episodes and new scenes that fit the pre-existing footage.[2]

On January 12, 2024, it was reported that Scardapane had written a new pilot episode for the series as well as two new episodes in order to finish the first half of the season. This report also stated that Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson would reprise their roles as Karen Page and Foggy Nelson respectively.[16]

On January 16, 2024, during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Vincent D'Onofrio revealed that, following the creative rehaul, Daredevil: Born Again was treated by creatives as a continuation of Daredevil and that the show could feature the history and outcome of stories introduced in the original show's three seasons.[42]

On January 19, 2024, The Hollywood Reporter reported that the series would resume production on January 22nd and that the first season would no longer contain eighteen episodes.[43]

On January 23, 2024, Comicbook.com reported that Wilson Bethel would reprise the role of Benjamin Poindexter in the series.[17] That same day, Deadline corroborated the announcement, adding that Bethel would appear in three episodes.[18]

On January 26, 2024, set pictures corroborated previous reports[16] that characters Karen Page and Foggy Nelson would be involved in the series.[44] Set pictures also revealed that the character Muse[24] and White Tiger would be a part of the series.[25]

On April 4, 2024, Deadline reported that Lou Taylor Pucci had joined the cast in an undisclosed role.[23]

On April 5, 2024, Collider reported that the series had concluded filming.[45]

On April 7, 2024, set pictures revealed that Sandrine Holt was no longer portraying Vanessa Fisk as original actress Ayelet Zurer had reprised the role following the series' creative reboot.[46]

On May 14, 2024, it was revealed at Disney Upfront 2024 that the series would premiere in March 2025.[7]

On July 24, 2024, it was revealed that The Newton Brothers would be composing the score.[5]
