Solid work[]

Good job on pointing out Dead Sea's origins on that location page. I added the reference to it, so you can see how it looks. Some references you may add are on pages that don't already have a "references" section, so make sure to add that if it doesn't already exist (I only say so because I always forget). I appreciate your keen eye and contributions! Keep up the good work. -Kate (Kdarrow (talk) 15:24, March 18, 2020 (UTC))

Nuka-Cola Kiwi[]

Where is Nuka-Cola Kiwi mentioned? Needs a reference. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 22:13, March 26, 2020 (UTC)

behind the scenes issues[]

you may have noticed that i have been undoing some of your edits, as you have said you have a problem with speculation but also saying things like, 'location X in the game is based off of location X in real life'. The Fallout series takes place in an ALTERNATE reality, not a completely made up one - therefore much of the locations will be the same in game and IRL, unless the name is changed in-game (far harbor to bar harbor for example) it is not really necessary to mention it in the BTS section.--Branebriar1930 (talk) 00:56, March 27, 2020 (UTC)

FOBOS2 mentioned only[]

Don't add that mentioned only category. Unneeded. Really. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 16:57, April 21, 2020 (UTC)

Sorry. I had no idea you were editing what I was doing. I only get emails, without any notifications. (New California Ahoy (talk))

Dead Money[]

I copied the quote verbatim directly from the dialogue files and the ogg matches it to a T. Great Mara (talk) 14:22, April 24, 2020 (UTC)

wrong congo[]

you created a page for the Congo country. yet you called it the democratic republic of Congo. every reference refers to simply 'the Congo' and im not sure if you know but the Congo and the democratic republic of the Congo are two separate countries. im changing that page to reflect the Congo instead of the DRC, unless you can find evidence that it is in fact the DRC that is mentioned.--Branebriar1930 (talk) 23:24, May 3, 2020 (UTC)

You are correct, I assumed that the Congo was a reference to the DRC. However, there's no evidence to indicate that it refers to the RC, either. When people refer to the Congo, they usually mean the DRC. Honestly, I don't believe we have any information what so ever on the political structure of Africa, and both gained independence after the divergence, so nothing can be assumed. Its more likely a reference to Equatorial Middle Africa, home to some of the largest jungles in the world, which was traditionally known as the Congo. (New California Ahoy (talk) 23:54, May 3, 2020 (UTC))

removed refs[]

hey i removed the references (on the pre war countries page) for the countries that have their own pages (such as the new pages you made for them) since that appears to be the format on the pre war countries page.--Branebriar1930 (talk) 14:17, May 5, 2020 (UTC)

Esther[]

The Book of Esther is part of both Judaism and the Old Testament in Christianity, this note is valid. Great Mara (talk) 20:03, May 9, 2020 (UTC)

I am well aware of the existence of the Book of Esther, but there's no indication that the weapon's name is a reference to it, nor does the story of queen Esther connect in any way to the weapon. Additionally, it is excluded from the challenge The Same Could Be Said of All Religious Weapons, which includes another GRA weapon Gehenna. I then went to the Discord, and both JCB and Dankalor agreed with me, so I removed it. (New California Ahoy (talk))

500![]

Well done on 500 edits my friend. And watch, this comment will look so outdated soon! -(Kdarrow (talk) 03:15, May 24, 2020 (UTC))

Thank you very much Kate. You just might be right. (New California Ahoy (talk) 04:32, May 24, 2020 (UTC))

Hey so what are we going to do about Vietnam? Since we do not know how the war played out i was thinking it may just be safer to make north and south Vietnam separate countries with their own pages?--Branebriar1930 (talk) 17:10, May 28, 2020 (UTC)

I was wondering that as well. I think it's best to just leave it as one page, Vietnam, as that's the only mention we get. (New California Ahoy (talk) 17:13, May 28, 2020 (UTC))

Arabia is a region which encompassed more than just modern day Saudi Arabia, with other states in that area. even so we can only include the most modern incarnation of a country, which is why we do not include states like the roman empire or Persia.--Branebriar1930 (talk) 17:27, May 28, 2020 (UTC)

Why do you not think we should include the philippines?--Branebriar1930 (talk) 17:27, May 28, 2020 (UTC)

oh i see what you mean, because one of its islands already has its own page. Yes i do agree with you if we create a Philippines page we can just incorporate that info--Branebriar1930 (talk) 17:28, May 28, 2020 (UTC)

Exactly (New California Ahoy (talk) 17:32, May 28, 2020 (UTC))

Another thing, we can't make a page for Norway, because making a page because of a spoken language is against the content policy. Just don't want you to waste your time.

Solid work on spotting those locations and creating new pages for them. It is so funny that they are under our noses for so long unnoticed. Well, not anymore, thanks to you! As Paladin Danse constantly says ... "outstanding!" -Kate (Kdarrow (talk) 03:38, June 4, 2020 (UTC))

As always, thank you Kate. I still have plenty more left to do, and I'm sure I'll find many more in the future.(New California Ahoy (talk) 20:33, June 4, 2020 (UTC))

Patroller rights[]

You've showed some good activity these past few months, but giving you patroller rights at this point is too early for me. I've upgraded my personal terms for giving them, I need to see some more continued activity. I'd also like to see some more diversity your edits a bit, other than on country pages. Jspoel Speech Jspoel 19:27, June 8, 2020 (UTC)

new countries[]

Hey i like what you are doing with the new countries but are you sure about Greenland? while it is an 'autonomous territory' it is not a country by itself. also the globes around the commonwealth are not reliable sources for country's geographical boundaries as they were based off of the real world. For example they do not show the soviet union as a single state, rather as Russia, Ukraine etc.

I recommend putting putting Greenland in brackets after Denmark.--Branebriar1930 (talk) 16:34, June 9, 2020 (UTC)

Expertise needed[]

I came across the Consul page today, looks like a page that would benefit from your expertise. -(Kdarrow (talk) 01:51, June 15, 2020 (UTC))

Hello!

I apologize for the delayed response - with the pandemic going around, I haven't been so active around here, but that's not really a good excuse for an aspiring mentee.

I see that you're interested in General & Technical Editing. If you'd like to start with GE, I can get back with you by next week with a training regiment, and I'd love to get to know you better and help acclimate you to our wiki. If you'd like to go ahead and get into the advanced stuff, we have a good number of other mentors that'd be able to help you get started; just let me know if that's your first preference, and I'll find you a good match.

Hope to hear from you soon, and happy editing! 寧靜 Fox 19:26, July 4, 2020 (UTC)

The Vault Academy[]

Alright, let's get this ball rolling!

So you've already signed onto the mentorship program, and pretty much all we need to do now is to assign you a mentor. Would you be okay with me picking you up for General Editing? I've also spoken to Kate, who has expressed an interest in getting you started on Technical Editing. Doesn't even necessarily have to be a choice - if you have the time and interest, we'd be willing to get you started on both in tandem.

In any case, I'll be looking forward to hearing back from you - happy editing! 寧靜 Fox 13:19, September 3, 2020 (UTC)

General Editing Program - Part 1:

Hello, and welcome to The Vault Academy! In this lesson plan, we will be going over General Editing, which is composed of basic yet essential etiquette regarding your editing and interactions with other editors here at Nukapedia.

Included below is a list of milestones that will need to be reached, which can be tackled in any order you wish. Every Friday there will be a progress report, where completed milestones will be gone over and checked off before moving onto the next part of the program. Your assigned mentor isn't just around to assign tasks; please do not hesitate to stay in consistent contact throughout the program, as strengthening your work relations with other editors is a crucial element to being a constructive editor.

Upon the completion of the General Editing Program, you will be awarded a certification of completion, which can be proudly displayed on your profile.

General Milestones

Welcome to The Vault Academy!

Welcome to General Editing Pt.I - I will be your mentor over the following program, and I hope you will find this both an educational and challenging experience. As you work through your milestones, remember that it's just as important to also have open communication with your mentor and other editors as often as possible.

There is no such thing as a stupid question, and I'll be here with you every step of the way to make sure that any you may have are thoroughly answered. There is of course my talk-page, but you may also contact me through our Discord server if that is more convenient for you.

This week we will be going over editing fundamentals and etiquette. Please pay special attention to the first milestone, as you'll need to be using sandboxes during your time at The Vault Academy, which your mentors will be using to assess and evaluate your progress through each lesson.

This will be part one of your General Editing program, in which there will be 4 total parts and then a final exam - Pt.II will be over bugs, categorization, and patience - Pt.III will be over user user interactions and forums - Pt.IV will be over research and peer-reviewing.

I'll be keeping an eye on your progress, and if you need any help at all, please please please do not hesitate to contact me, and we'll talk things through. Good luck, and happy editing! 寧靜 Fox 19:18, September 4, 2020 (UTC)

Friday Check-In[]

Hey, hey!

It's Friday, so I wanted to drop in and see how you're doing with the program. Whenever you finish with your milestones, you can send me your sandbox(es) once you're ready, and I'll start working on a progress report for you before we move onto the next lesson.

Otherwise, if you need any help at all, I'd love to try and answer any questions that you have! Happy editing, and keep up the amazing work. 寧靜 Fox 15:49, September 11, 2020 (UTC)

Progress Report[]

General Editing - Part 1

  • Sandboxes: Sandboxes are going to be a tool that you'll be using consistently during your time here at Nukapedia, and it's integral to become familiar with their use as early on as possible. The sandbox you created for this lesson is concise and well organized.
    • Yes
  • Categories: It can be easy to mistake categories as unimportant details when editing our articles, and so it's good to dip your toes in and get a feel of the intricate network of categories that we have here, and how important they are to our readers when it comes to finding the specific pages that they're interested in. Landmarks are important articles to have a category for, and you showed an understanding of how it can correlate with different categories.
    • Yes
  • Edit Summaries: As far as I can tell, you regularly use edit-summaries in a short yet informative manner. Very helpful for me especially since I had to go through your recent edits.
    • Yes
  • Conventions: English is a language that's more difficult than a lot of people give it credit for, and as an encyclopedia, we take our convention standards very seriously. Not only did you provide an article that you created yourself, but you've also provided regular maintenance to it, improving the page over time. My one piece of criticism, is that you should create a 'Mentions' section to help bring together the isolated lines that you have in the 'Background' section. Otherwise, fantastic work, and I especially appreciate your attention to references.
    • Yes
  • Content Criteria: Your work on the Mars article alone was enough to show your proficiency in this lesson as well. Although you didn't finish all of the milestones, I feel like you're knowledgeable enough to move on.
    • Yes
  • Projects: Although you didn't finish all of the milestones, I feel like you're knowledgeable enough to move on. With that being said, it's typically good form to talk shop with the project lead and get your stub re-writes peer-reviewed.
    • Neutral
  • General Milestones: Easily met the edit-requirements, and created a large number of both original articles and categories, connecting them as necessary. You by far exceeded the general milestones.
    • Yes

────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

Conclusion:

You have shown a clear proficiency in the materials you had to work with, and so we'll be moving onto Pt.II later in the day. In the meantime, my only suggestion would be to get with the stubs project lead (me) and talk a bit on how to proceed. Every project is a collaborative effort, and so the lesson here is to try and reach out and work with your fellow editors to complete them.

Keep up the great work! You're a talented editor and I'll be looking forward to seeing what all you can offer to the wiki and its content. 寧靜 Fox 13:37, September 30, 2020 (UTC)

Friday Check-In[]

Just wanted to pop in and check on your progress! Did you have any questions about your lessons? I know that when it comes to bugs especially, they can be a daunting task to tackle head-on, so I'll be more than happy to help you out if you ever need it. Roman empire[]

Hey so nice work on the roman empire page but could I make a suggestion? its a bit jarring to see Roman empire - locations - soviet union, Israel and all these modern names which technically are not the same states as those that existed under the RE. could you maybe change some of the links of the modern countries countries to their closest ancient equivalent? (UK to Britain, France to Gaul, Germany to Germania and so on)--Branebriar1930 (talk) 17:58, November 5, 2020 (UTC)

Honestly what you said about the ancient countries being very different to modern day ones is very true, and part of the problem. It might be best to leave some of them completely out. Like its not really fair so say the Roman empire controlled the soviet union when it just controlled some of where modern day Russia is now. Maybe just forget the modern day countries all together and just put down some of the ancient ones without any links?--Branebriar1930 (talk) 21:41, November 6, 2020 (UTC)

There's already a page for the Nuclear Winter game mode. Also, I would someday like to make a page for the actual nuclear winter following the war, which is mentioned in a couple of places (Of course, it's really hard to find info on the topic now, given the 76 update, but I'm going to try). - New California Ahoy Bear of the North Star lapel pin FO76 Red star pin "Who are you, that do not know their history?" 03:18, 15 December 2020 (UTC)

Federal government[]

IMO, we don't need to specify that the page is referring to the United States federal government, since it's the primary setting of Fallout. We also don't have any other pages on the specific governments of other countries, so it just feels redundant. AllYourFavorites! (talk) 22:30, 16 December 2020 (UTC)

Re categorization[]

A faction is a group we join, or can see evidence of recently in the wasteland (in 76). An organization is mentioned in a source text, or a group from years past. Organizations can be pre-War law enforcement, educational institutions, associations, civil groups but not joinable factions in-game, which means something different. I am rectifying the issue you just brought up. As editors, if we see a line is "tenuous at best" we should work to strengthen it and make it more clear and easy to understand by our readers, instead of keeping it the same, intentionally keeping it ambiguous. --kdarrow Pickman heart take her for a spin! 03:04, 14 January 2021 (UTC)

Faction vs Location[]

Hey there! I saw you were using the faction infobox for locations like Sumer. I integrated the faction infobox into the location infobox. You can now use the location infobox with all of the functionality of the faction infobox :)
intrepid359FO76NW Overseer7/30/24 [3:56am]

Well thank you. To be honest, I didn't even be notice it had a faction infobox. I made that page a loooong time ago. I'm assuming I did it that way for consistency, since the pre-War country pages also use faction infoboxes. Anyway, thanks for the help, I appreciate it. :) -New California Ahoy Bear of the North Star lapel pin FO76 Red star pin "Who are you, that do not know their history?" 07:30, 19 January 2021 (UTC)

Real life information[]

Not sure you saw my edit summaries. You are adding a lot of real life information to these country pages, but we are a Fallout wiki and the information needs to focus on what we know from the games. I think it is ok to note they are rulers if their names were mentioned in-game, but unless it says in the games the years these individuals ruled, for example, it is not appropriate for the scope of our wiki. And if the images are not from the game they need to be referenced like any other piece of info. Thanks for your help with this. -kdarrow Pickman heart take her for a spin! 05:11, 17 February 2021 (UTC)

Not to be rude, but all I did is note country leaders that are mentioned in-game on two pages. I don't really think adding the years they were in power constitutes "adding a lot of real life information." Anyway, noted, I won't put them in in the future. - New California Ahoy Bear of the North Star modified Red Star "Who are you, that do not know their history?" 03:27, 21 January 2021 (UTC) 05:51, 17 February 2021 (UTC)

Terminal guidelines[]

That was not part of the guidelines when Camelchip presented the draft to be voted on and is incorrect grammar. Where are you getting this from and who slipped that in? Great Mara (talk) 18:39, 18 February 2021 (UTC)

The policy itself says that they are not capitalized as they are in game. Only the terminal entries are. "Note that, while the terminal name is not capitalized as it is in-game, terminal entry names are. This is because entries are considered part of the terminal transcripts." Great Mara (talk) 18:45, 18 February 2021 (UTC)

Minor Edits[]

A couple of our users have noticed you making edits to our articles in order to add just spaces between categories, and asked me to look into the matter. Looking into them, I understand where you're coming from and I don't want to dissuade you from adding them, but at the same time, I would like to ask you to add them from now on in conjunction with other general improvements to the articles you're editing.

The reason for this is that otherwise, the Recent Changes get clogged with edits only adding spaces that most viewers will never even see, and it creates a lot of undue burden for our Patrollers (including through E-Mail notifications for them) when trying to track down edits that actually do need to be looked over. Thanks for your consideration. 寧靜 Fox 09:14, 10 March 2021 (UTC)

Touch base[]

I think we should touch base about these changes you are making and adding to the wiki. I have a lot of growing concerns about your inability to parse out the difference from what we know about the real world and what we are told about the world in Fallout, and representing information that is not verifiably from the games or its source texts. I encourage editors to add interesting information about real world correlations, of which there are many, but I think you are having trouble making these judgment calls. I will reach out to you on discord so we can discuss. kdarrow Pickman heart take her for a spin! 18:43, 10 April 2021 (UTC)

removing redirects[]

Please make an exception for the unique/character pages when removing redirects. Characters like Mr. Messenger ought to have their own dedicated page, since they're characters and not randomly generated baddy Mr. Handys. So while this was a redirect right now, the link was useful for later on when that page gets split from the overloaded page.

I hope this makes sense. The robot pages are messy enough as is.

Hey mate, this is just a heads up that the North Korea article you wrote will be deleted. Reason for this is that it is lacking any significance lore-wise, as it is only ever mentioned in a document for a canceled, non-canon film. This deletion is in accordance with our content policy. I agree on Oxford commas but I knew for a fact that someone (probably GreatMara) would inevitably snipe it and cry "edit war" and "bad grammar" if it were disputed, so I figured I may as well just dump it myself. --DirtyBlue929 (talk) 04:24, 14 August 2022 (UTC)

I saw that you left a message, and then clicked on the email for your update to the NCR talk page when I went to see what you said. I was just about to send a reply telling you that that was D.J. who did that edit, but luckily realized it was not, in fact, my talk page. I always get confused whenever someone leaves a new message there, think I'm finally going to change my username. Anyway, no worries regarding the oxford, I forgot Mara does that. Ant already broke me on correcting punctuation, so I guess it's not that big a deal to let something else slide. :( - (New California Ahoy Bear of the North Star modified Red Star 05:06, 14 August 2022 (UTC))
