Now that we have had Discord for 6 months and got a good feel on it, it is time we overhaul the rule set for Discussions/Discord (to keep rule consistency) to ensure it is fit for purpose.

All the old rules remain, if condensed and revised, along with new rules to fit the discord facilities. This has been sat with us for several months now and it is time to make a move on getting a yes/no from the community.

Proposed new rule set[]

General[]

  1. Personal attacks, harassment, sexual harassment insults, bullying, or abusive language towards another user is not permitted"
  2. Racial bigotry, sexually degrading language, or other hate speech.
  3. Violation of personal privacy. This includes revealing personal information about users (e.g. real name, location, age, gender, etc) and violating confidentiality on particular issues (such as issues asked to be kept confidential by other users or administrators). This includes linking to external sources, such as websites (e.g. Facebook or MySpace) that violate personal privacy, unless prior consent from the user whose privacy might be violated is given.
  4. Trolling or general irritation or disruption of other users. This often includes, but is not limited to; excessive usage of capital letters, punctuation marks, deliberate distortions of the English language (such as "1337" or "Dolan" speak), and excessive usage of languages other than English. Making arrangements to troll or otherwise disrupt another chat room or service is not permitted in our chatroom. This does not prevent you from joining another chatroom, linking another chatroom, or encouraging others to visit if the topic of conversation is likely to be of interest.
  5. Being a dick. As a guideline, don't go out of your way to irritate others. (And especially do not try to test the admin's and/or chat moderator's patience and/or limits.) Vicious abuse is grounds for sanctions.
  6. Whining. Users who ask for something from another chat user and are refused it should not stoop to complaining. It is acceptable to be persistent, but in a mature manner.
  7. Please note the Discord service is treated as being part of the Chatroom of "Nukapedia: The Fallout Wiki" for local rules purposes. However the Wikia TOU does not apply. In addition to the normal local rules, discussion of topics commonly deemed as illegal (including piracy) or may be illegal to provide to a minor (ie Pornography) are also not permitted. These are covered for Discussions by Wikia's own terms of use.
  8. Repeative posts and/or Spamming. Don't say the same thing six times because no one is responding to you. Don't keep yammering on about a subject nobody cares about. Advertising, meaningless and/or random posts may also be considered spam.
  9. When discussing real world events or politics remember that your fellow chatters may hold strong views in these areas that may differ from your own.

Where a particular subject appears to be causing distress, offense, or is otherwise disrupting the ability for others to enjoy chat, a moderator at their discretion may direct that a conversation either be closed or moved into private chat, or may create a new room for the discussion of this topic. Any user can ask a moderator to consider applying this rule, but should not be used as a "shield" for a user who has picked a fight and wishes to escape the consequences.

Moderators should avoid closing discussions outside of a publicly made request when they are involved in the discussion (unless they are the only active mod).

In the event of mods disagreeing to end a discussion, the decision to end takes precedence unless there are more active mods who disagree with the decision than agree.

Discord[]

  1. People without a wiki account are welcome to share some of our social spaces, but full access is limited to those with verified accounts. Non disclosure of a wiki account is grounds for removal from discord.
  2. Usernames should match wiki name. As part of this you will be asked to make an edit, of a moderators discretion to your user page. Discussions posts/Bio additions will not counted as verification.
  3. Group pings should not be used unless for official business.
  4. User pings should be used sparingly, pinging once to get a users attention is fine, repeated pings will be classed as spam/harassment.
  5. Bots and images: The bots are present for moderation purposes, however they do have social functions that are available to all users. Bots and images should only be used sparingly outside the loyalty and propoganda channel, inline with discussion.
  6. If you are the owner/moderator of another server, keep a firm boundary between moderation of your server and discussion here. Discussion of role changes, bans, warnings, etc relating to your server in our rooms will be treated as a cross wiki issue.

Voice Chat[]

  1. Allow people to talk. Avoid talking over others, especially in disagreements or debates.
  2. If a rule 9 is called in voice chat, conversation on the subject should stop immediately.
  3. Think before you speak. If it doesn't fly in text chats, it doesn't fly here.
  4. If you wish to participate in the voice channel, related conversation should not take place in the text channels. Flavouring, such as links and images should be placed in the loyalty-and-propaganda-office.

Yes[]

  1. Yes I endorse this product, service and/or candidate for office. Agent c (talk) 19:01, April 5, 2018 (UTC)
  2. Yes Based on my experience running a server, these rules seem reasonable and appropriate for Nukapedia's own server. Shaka1277 (talk) 19:03, April 5, 2018 (UTC)
  3. Yes Looks like a reasonable set of rules to me. Welark (talk) 19:05, April 5, 2018 (UTC)
  4. Yes I think those are pretty reasonable and will help Morrigan101 19:05, April 5, 2018 (UTC)
  5. Yes Nothing really new in the main ruleset, just some small tweaks and compression, the rest of it is so we have firm rules to work with on parts we didn't have before. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 19:08, April 5, 2018 (UTC)
  6. Yes I'm for it. --ThreeSecondRush (talk) 19:25, April 5, 2018 (UTC)
  7. Yes It's the foundation of a healthy community: fair and reasonable. User:Ulysses the G
  8. Yes Looks fine to me, but where’s the “Laat is in charge” clause you promised? Also, Rule 1 needs to be enforced at a greater degree, but that’s not about the rule itself. Laat the Survivor (talk) 20:17, April 5, 2018 (UTC)
  9. Yes No notable objections here. DisgustingWastelander (talk) 20:43, April 5, 2018 (UTC)

  13. Yes UrbanAnge1 (talk)
  14. Yes ------Cassie I can see you. 07:16, April 6, 2018 (UTC)

No[]

  1. No Too many rules in my opinion. While some adjustments or extra info could be added to explain and provide for a more modern interpretationgiven some changes, I think these rules make the body of rules too burdensome. I also don't agree with every change. - Greets Peace'n Hugs (talk) (blog) 10:12, April 6, 2018 (UTC)
  2. No Rule 9 does not protect against tyranny, and it is very easy for a moderator or admin to abuse it. Rule 1 does not include certain phrases and is not effective enough. We need reform, and this is not reform. Rule 9 and 1 need to be changed. This is not change. talk

Neutral[]

  1. Neutral Not my rules, not my server, so not my call. Dragão Carmesim Red hammer and sickle 19:15, April 5, 2018 (UTC)
  2. Neutral I agree with some of it, but not enough to warrent a yes, I also disagree eith some of it, not enough to warrent a no with me, so I will be staying neutral for this reason You're in my sights...SilentWraith_291 {♤Niner Ace of Spades♤} (talk) 20:40, April 5, 2018 (UTC)
  3. Neutral Not much change from the original. Not much to oppose or support, if this only replaces a section of the rules. |\| () |\/| /\ |) | Talk | Discord | NMC 14:13, April 6, 2018 (UTC)

Excluded[]

  1. No Siding with PNH. While I like the idea and general selection of rules here, this doesn't fit the criteria of "condensing" the rules at all, and some rules also feel a bit too blanket and leave little room for mods to actually moderate themselves (and in my opinion, in Discord, moderator opinion [that is, case-by-case-basis moderator's discretion] should trump nearly all else). |\| () |\/| /\ |) | Talk | Discord | NMC 12:56, April 6, 2018 (UTC) - Changed vote.

Comments[]

After the vote was called, I've removed "Users who ask for something from another chat user and are refused it should not stoop to complaining. It is acceptable to be persistent, but in a mature manner." From the rule 8 as it is already in the rule 6. Inhave also removed "robot maintenance" from discord rule 5 regarding bots. This room was decommissioned a while ago. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 21:33, April 5, 2018 (UTC)

For ease of seeing the changes, is there a diff somewhere that shows the changes all in on e diff? The Gunny  UserGunny chevrons 22:26, April 5, 2018 (UTC)
changes from vote start. Did you want a comparison against the existing too? Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 22:33, April 5, 2018 (UTC)
Yeah. I was thinking a diff showing all the changes/additions from the original chat rules to the newly proposed. The Gunny  UserGunny chevrons 22:39, April 5, 2018 (UTC)
here we go Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 23:30, April 5, 2018 (UTC)

General rules 1 and 2 seem to be the same thing. Merge them? Also general 4 and 5. Great Mara (talk) 00:55, April 7, 2018 (UTC)

Rule 9[]

I would remind people that rule 9 does contain a safeguard.

>>>Moderators should avoid closing discussions outside of a publicly made request when they are involved in the discussion (unless they are the only active mod).

Admins and moderators should never be calling rule 9 if they're involved and another mod can deal with the situation. Only if there is no other mod does the responsibility fall to them to close it.

Of course, admins and mods can appeal for a rule 9 call just like anyone else. Agent c (talk) 23:08, April 6, 2018 (UTC)

I'd also like to point out that voting against the change on the basis of rule 1 and rule 9 not being appropriate will not remove those rules from being in play. This is to change for an old rule set to a newer, fresher version. If the vote doesn't pass, they will remain in place in the old rules as we are not voting to repeal them.

Result[]

Near clean sweep, with some pointers that can be worked with when I move the new set of rules over. I'll try and get them done shortly. Sakaratte - Talk to the catmin 12:54, April 15, 2018 (UTC)
