Morning Glory cave is a location in Zion Canyon in the Fallout: New Vegas add-on Honest Hearts.

Background[]

Sometime after the loss of his second wife and unborn son in March 2101 and ultimately deciding not to go through with attempted suicide, by August 2108, Randall Clark had moved to a new campsite in the cave from his previous one in Cueva Guarache. Around late August, he found several sets of tracks in the northeast part of the canyon, but when he followed them to the owners, he discovered them to be "walking corpses" that attacked him, with more nearby; by early next month, he had managed to kill all of them to put them out of their misery.[1][2]

Clark lived in the cave for around 15 years, once celebrating his birthday on February 5, 2113 and reminiscing about everyone and everything he's lost, then trying to work up the courage to finally go through with ending his life; he ultimately relented again to his bitter regret.[3][4]

In late April 2123, Clark discovered a group of 24 children, half boys, half girls, all underage with the oldest around 13-14, living in Zion that had made camp close to where the group of Mexican refugees had resided over 30 years ago. For two nights, he quietly observed and learned about them: a few of them were literate, they spoke a devolved pidgin language barely resembling English,[Non-game 1] and they had apparently traveled from a place called the School that was run by an individual known as the Principal, whom they considered a boogeyman-like figure to invoke for punishing misbehavior. Clark decided to look after the children from then on and protect them should "the Principal" come for them.[5][6]

Layout[]

Situated directly west of the North Fork Bridge, and north of Patriarchs' Campground, there are three spore plants inside the cave. The cave also contains several traps (bear traps, which lie mostly under branches, and two rigged shotguns). At the center of the cave atop a rock spire is a duffle bag, a crate and ammunition box with random loot, and junk items strewn about. The duffle bag contains the key for a locked gate on the wall opposite the entrance (or it can be picked with a 50 Lockpick skill level).

  1. Question: "How did the Sorrows manage to forget how to speak and read English and all the knowledge and stories gleaned from the Survivalist's gifts in less than two hundred years?"
Joshua Graham: "The Survivalist's notes may give an incorrect picture of how much English the Sorrows knew when he initially made contact. Even by that point, they were speaking a devolved pidgin language and many of them could not read."
