Scrap Metal[]

Is scrap metal considered notable? It is a quest item, but couldn't be considered rare. Please discuss. Ishotamaninnewreno 04:48, January 15, 2010 (UTC)

Put it on a list on the Scrap metal page. 11px-Naglowaa_se.gif Tagaziel (call!) 09:06, January 15, 2010 (UTC)

Sexy Sleepwear?[]

Is not a one of a kind piece of clothing why is it listed as such Jbsnicket 06:07, April 6, 2010 (UTC)

I agree sexy sleepwear can be bought often it isnt common to find but its pretty common... God damn ghouls 20:47, April 13, 2010 (UTC)

New Vegas section[]

Can we add a new section for New Vegas notable loot? Or a new page? I added magazines here without noticing it was Fallout 3-specific and it was rightfully reverted.

It would have basically everything in the Fallout 3 notable loot, but also things like magazines and star bottle caps.

Rare clothing[]

Would semi-rare clothing count as notable loot? For example, the Police hat (Fallout 3). There are only 8 listed in the article. Dbbolton 17:53, March 29, 2012 (UTC)

Added policy[]

The revised notable loot policy has become a good improvement I think; only still some minor adjustments needed. To add on this, at his point most items/consumables and their locations (loc or on NPC) have been put on the item/cons. pages. But not all items/cons. are on the location pages because of notablility. Now, to make the guideline even more clear I was thinking of including a threshold for items to be mentioned on location pages. The amount I had in mind is 3 fixed ones in total in the base game (and 1 per DLC). So that would be for items just lying around in the wasteland (Count column in the GECK). In that case a cowboy repeater, and fire axe would be mentioned (suprisingly both have only 3 fixed locations). We could also do the same for consumables and ammunition. Other than that exceptional amounts in one location stay mentioned like already stated in the policy. What do you think? Jspoel Speech Jspoel 20:22, May 1, 2012 (UTC)

I agree with this, by clearly defining a threshold we can avoid most of the issues with NL. I'd personally set the rarity threshold to be 5, but I'm okay with it being 3 as well. Limmiegirl Lildeneb Talk! ♪ 21:05, May 1, 2012 (UTC)

Style dispute[]

After a recent edit war, I am asking for input from other Nukapedians. Should notable loot lists be:

  • organized by item, so that each bullet is an item, or
  • organized by location, so that items near each other are listed in one bullet?

Here is an example from the dispute in question:

  • One Nuka-Cola Quantum on a desk in an office in the upper level on the food distribution area.
  • One Pre-War book near the Nuka-Cola Quantum.

versus

  • A Nuka-Cola Quantum is on the upper level in the food distribution area. It's on a desk next to a terminal which is near a pre-War book.

My reasoning for changing the article to the first style is that I think makes for a clearer list, and is better for general use. Imagine if there were several notable items in one area: we would end up with a paragraph rather than a list.

If I'm alone in this view, I'll gladly follow whatever guidelines the community can establish on this issue.

dbbolton (talk) 01:47, January 30, 2013 (UTC)

I can second that. I agree that it helps break up the structure of the section and is overall more visually pleasing. USA Flag Pre-War User Avatar talk 01:51, January 30, 2013 (UTC)

It is a list of notable loot. The loot is what is listed. It is not a list of locations of notable loot. List 'em separately. The Gunny  380px-USMC-E7 svg 02:33, January 30, 2013 (UTC)
Agreed. The other technique just makes for headaches as you try to tease out what all the important items are, we'd have to bold them or something and why create even more work when there's a viable alternative that is just as often used? Aristatide (talk) 02:06, February 21, 2014 (UTC)
Dear god, I'm still in year-lag. I looked at the '2013' and went, "Oh, this is a fairly recent discussion in which my voice might be relevant!" and didn't realize better until I saw the publish date of my comment. Aristatide (talk) 02:08, February 21, 2014 (UTC)

True Police Stories[]

Going by various articles I've seen, copies of True Police Stories are not considered Notable Loot, and I'd kind of like to challenge that. Yes, you can get a near-infinite number with Voracious Reader, but you can also get a near infinite number of Nuka-Cola Victories with Nuka Chemist and we still list those. Unlike other Skill Magazines, copies of True Police Stories don't seem to turn up in vendor inventories--at least, I've never gotten one, although I won't rule out my luck just being unusually terrible if someone who can access the code wants to tell me otherwise. If I'm right, though, that definitely makes them of limited quantity. Aristatide (talk) 02:02, February 21, 2014 (UTC)

This is indeed interesting. True Police Stories seems to be a special case amongst the skill magazines, and it seems that we didn't apply the same logic with the Nuka-Colas... The skill magazines' notability had been decided via a public referendum awhile ago, but it seems that it might have to be reconsidered... --Skire (talk) 02:58, February 21, 2014 (UTC)
How does one go about doing that, then? I'm a bit unclear on this, but I'm game to learn. Or does an admin need to start the proceedings? Aristatide (talk) 04:24, February 23, 2014 (UTC)

Brotherhood T-51b power armor[]

Shouldn't this item be considered notable? It's somewhat rare (only 6 copies obtainable without taking by killing/stealing), high value (5200 caps), usefulness (can equip Veronica with one of the best armor in the game for free), variant of an already notable item, etc. make it notable IMO. Mad Dog Fargo (talk) 03:45, June 4, 2014 (UTC)

Honestly I'm of the opinion that items you can obtain an infinite number of without using exploits should not be notable (ex: buying them from a merchant, farmable NPCs, etc), which goes for both types of t-51b. Richie9999 (talk) 04:11, June 4, 2014 (UTC)
It's a matter of philosophy I suppose. Is the list geared for the general casual player who don't care to 'exploit' game mechanics (farmable NPCs)? Or the 'power' player who like to max out the rare items in his possession and are willing to commit non role-comforming actions (killing NPCs e.g.) to get them? As a player somewhat in between those two extremes, I think the list should be more inclusive rather than exclusive. Mad Dog Fargo (talk) 04:41, June 4, 2014 (UTC)
Regardless of how we might play the game, or our philosophy of it, I would have thought that the foremost and best source of authority on such matters would be the game itself.

Given that it is a "unique" armor, the T-51b Power Armor obtainable from Fort Constantine cannot be given to Protector Casdin.

If Protector Casdin won't accept the T-51b Power Armor because it is unique, then surely it should be considered as Notable Loot. 2bcont (talk) 20:51, December 8, 2015 (UTC)

Rare but useless items[]

I've been having an interesting discussion on the Rake talk page about items that are rare but otherwise useless being listed as notable loot. Reading the policy as it stands, a spork (or a rake) could be considered to be Notable Loot. This seems ludicrous to me, as they have no value and no use at all. Their only claim to being notable is that they are rare, which puts them at the top of the priority list in this policy. I think this needs to be reassessed. 2bcont (talk) 03:54, December 8, 2015 (UTC)

From my experience this list is geared towards 'completists' rather than game-play value. For example I've argued the BoS T-51b armor should be notable since it's somewhat rare in the normal game world, but was told because one can kill powerful NPC BoS Paladins (affecting game-play) to get it, it is not notable. But then other rare but regenerateable items like thick/thin red pastes are considered notable. It's pretty inconsistent. Mad Dog Fargo (talk) 04:46, December 8, 2015 (UTC)

FO4 and boss containers[]

We usually don't document containers as notable loot. FO4 has inherited from Skyrim the concept of a boss container (one variant often seen is that big bright rectangle box). It draws it contents from a special levelled list (better loot), and some radiant quests put the item to be fetched into it. Usually is found at the "end" of a location. It might be worth to document that boss container (in the game data, the reference has an XLRT field with value 0003f1e5 BossContainer). --Alfwyn (talk) 21:17, January 18, 2016 (UTC)

Instead of documenting the container, I have seen the claim that the quest items that can spawn there randomly are noteable as per this policy. This is not useful, it will quickly fill the list with really situational items that are generally of no interest to someone visiting the location. Usually I'd think this falls under sensible applying a policy - if that's not the case, I think the policy needs changing. --Alfwyn (talk) 09:59, February 24, 2016 (UTC)

Add "Not random" bit[]

Considering how a lot of people claim that fusion cores and mini nukes can be found in ammo boxes and treat these as notable loot, should something along the lines of "Notable loot cannot is not a random spawn, and is consistently present" be added to the notable loot policy? Seems kind of missing. Miggy (hawk talk) 07:11, January 27, 2016 (UTC)

Sunset Sarsaparilla star bottle caps[]

Would it be possible to add Sunset Sarsaparilla star bottle caps to the New Vegas list, if they qualify as notable loot? Either way, thank you kindly! -Kdarrow (talk) 17:31, February 24, 2020 (UTC)

Perhaps an edit[]

For New Vegas consumables, I am not sure what "(footlocker)" means behind black coffee. Aside from some items are found in footlockers. Maybe it was left behind from another edit? A few other exceptionally minor edits, including swapping the period for a comma at the end of "non-notable items" and removing the period at the end of Aerotech suite 200 and 300. Thank you for considering! -Kdarrow (talk) 08:51, February 26, 2020 (UTC)

Guaranteed spawns in marked containers[]

I found combat armor in a container marked "armor case" in an otherwise unremarkable location in Fallout: NV. There was another marked container with an advanced radiation suit, and that was the only other loot in that location. Guaranteed spawns, especially in marked containers, should be notable loot.Mean jim (talk) 22:49, 21 June 2023 (UTC)
