My friends...they were simple traders. All dead at the hands of your robots.— To The Mechanist

Ada is a robot residing in the Commonwealth in the Fallout 4 add-on Automatron. She is a possible companion of the Sole Survivor.

Background[]

Created by Jackson as a traveling companion with his caravan, Ada is a heavily modified Assaultron with sentry bot and Protectron parts. The group specialized in mechanical repairs and trade, traveling throughout the Commonwealth looking for ruins full of spare parts to use and sell. They had at least one prior encounter with the Rust Devils raider gang where they learned about the group's own destructive methods of robotics engineering.

Circa 2287, Ada believes that the caravan and its abundance of expertly-modified robots attracted the attention of the Mechanist, as they suffered a quick succession of three attacks by similarly-patchwork robots that spouted the Mechanist's message of peace for the Commonwealth. The final attack, taking place near Wattz Consumer Electronics, claimed the lives of her human companions and the two other robots they were traveling with, Porter and Hurtz, leaving only Ada still standing when the Sole Survivor arrived.

Companion[]

  • Ada is automatically recruited as a companion by talking to her during Mechanical Menace after defeating the group of Mechanist robots attacking her.
  • Ada is the only companion aside from Dogmeat that remains friendly to the player character regardless of actions, positive or negative. She will offer advice and her opinion depending on the situation like any other companion but will never gain or lose Affinity. As a result, though, Ada has no associated Affinity perk to gain.
  • If Ada is an active companion, upon talking to her she may give several random junk items, a trait she shares with all player-built automatrons that have their personality subroutines activated.
  • She is one of three companions that can be ordered to steal owned items.
  • She is one of three companions (excluding automatrons) able to be modifiable at the robot workbench, the others being Curie (before completing Emergent Behavior) and Codsworth.
  • Being a modifiable robot, Ada can be upgraded with lockpicking or hacking capabilities to cover for the player character's potential shortcomings in any of those fields, if they lack the requisite perks themselves, or Cait or Nick Valentine are not available.

Effects of player's actions[]

  • If the Mechanist is killed during Restoring Order, Ada will take over the role as the quest-giver for the radiant Rogue Robot quests.

Other interactions[]

  • Ada will not comment if taken to Nate's/Nora's corpse in Vault 111.
  • She will not ride as a passenger when climbing into a Vertibird.
  • Ada will lament on not having a vacuum attachment when entering certain cluttered or dirty rooms.
  • If the player character removes their clothing and fast travels with her as a companion, she may remark "people look so strange without their clothes on" or "running around without clothes on doesn't seem like the smartest thing to do in an environment like this."
  • If brought to Boston Airport after completing Reunions, Ada will mention that Jackson's caravan had previous run-ins with the Brotherhood of Steel and that they were never to be provoked and avoided at all costs.[1]
  • Ada apparently has a simulated sense of smell, as she will mention her "olfactory sensors" when brought near a location populated by mirelurks.[2]
  • If the player character invites the Vault-Tec rep to Sanctuary Hills with Ada nearby during Familiar Faces, she will comment that "they will like it in the suburbs."

Notes[]

  • If dismissed, and no location is specified, she will relocate to the Red Rocket truck stop, but will not count towards that settlement's population. If a location is specified, including the Red Rocket truck stop, she will count towards the population of that settlement.
  • She uses the same body animation (hands and legs) when equipped with a head laser or robobrain head.
  • When Ada is an active companion, NPCs like Diamond City security will not make any comments about her as they would with base game companions.

Appearances[]

Ada appears in the Fallout 4 add-on Automatron and the Fallout: The Roleplaying Game supplement book Settler's Guide Book.

Behind the scenes[]

  • Ada is voiced by Rachel Robinson in English and by Haruka Kajiyama in Japanese.
  • Ada is likely named after Ada Lovelace, a real-world mathematician and an early innovator in the field of computer science. She shares her namesake with Lady Lovelace, another Assaultron present at the Easy City Downs as a robot racing candidate.
  • Some of Ada's dialogue lines are references to pop culture and science fiction. For example, "resistance is futile" is a reference to the Borg in Star Trek. After using a terminal, Ada may say "Using a keyboard. How quaint.", a reference to a similar line from Mr. Scott in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. Another one is found during Restoring Order when she mentions "It feels like: Poetry in motion," referring to the popular song by Johnny Tillotson in 1960. She will also say, "If you don't eat your meat, how can you have any pudding?" in any school location. This is a reference to Another Brick In The Wall, Part 2 by Pink Floyd.

Bugs[]

  • PCPC Playstation 4Playstation 4 Xbox OneXbox One During the quest A New Threat, when one has to install the radar beacon on Ada with the robot workbench, only the option to modify her legs will be available, making the quest impossible to complete. A possible fix is to shoot Ada until she is crippled.[verified]
  • Playstation 4Playstation 4 Ada can be commanded to pick up an infinite amount of items using the command action thus making her carrying capacity unlimited.[verified]
  • PCPC Playstation 4Playstation 4 Xbox OneXbox One When commanded to hack a terminal, she won't acknowledge the command and continues to behave as if it was never given. Fix - Requires the game to be restarted.[verified]
  • PCPC Playstation 4Playstation 4 Xbox OneXbox One As a companion, Ada will repeatedly back up and run into the player.[verified]
  • Playstation 4Playstation 4 Will sometimes disappear without a trace. Fix - Select a new companion.[verified]
  • PCPC Playstation 4Playstation 4 Xbox OneXbox One Ada will behave as if you went to confront the Mechanist by yourself, asking questions like "what did she say?" even if she is present and spoke during the final dialogue.[verified]
  • Playstation 4Playstation 4 There is a chance you will not be able to talk to her at all if nearby raiders interrupt the conversation when first responding to the caravan distress call.[verified]
    • To prevent this, make sure the area is clear of them before talking to her.
  • Playstation 4Playstation 4 Ada's pathing appears to be bugged; if commanded to go somewhere or do something, she may choose an unnecessarily long or impossible route. If she is caught on small pieces of irregular geometry i.e. rubble, she will tell the player she cannot go where commanded instead of walking around it.[verified]
