The salvaged Assaultron head is a unique weapon added with the Fallout 4 add-on Automatron.

Characteristics[]

A laser weapon consisting of the severed head of an Assaultron used in the fashion of a hand-held pistol. When equipped, the weapon is held by grabbing the severed spine and neck cabling.

Similar to the laser musket, the salvaged Assaultron head uses fusion cells and must be charged before firing by manually reloading the weapon. This can be done up to five times for each shot, increasing the damage with each extra charge. Firing it in V.A.T.S. will also default to one charge when unloaded, but the head can be manually charged to the desired level prior to V.A.T.S. with no additional action point cost.

Charging the weapon involves no visible action by the shooter. The faceplates open and the weapon glows a brighter shade of red as it is charged. The animations of the weapon are nearly identical to those seen when a live Assaultron is charging up their head laser. The weapon has a lighter weight than the laser musket and benefits from Gunslinger as opposed to Rifleman.

The salvaged Assaultron head carries the "Charging" legendary effect which causes the weapon to deal radiation damage to the user when fired. This means every shot by the weapon, regardless of charge level, will inflict a maximum dose of 50 rads.

Location[]

The weapon is located in the Fort Hagen hangar visited during Headhunting, found in a steamer trunk shortly before returning to the entrance, near where Ivey is fought.

Notes[]

  • It is the only energy weapon in the game that directly injures the user as well as their target.
  • It is advisable to obtain a high Radiation Resistance when using the weapon by taking Rad-X or wearing power armor, a hazmat suit, or the Robes of Atom's Devoted Far Harbor (add-on). This will lower the amount of rads inflicted by firing the weapon, especially when facing multiple enemies.
  • Using the weapon combined with ranks of Ghoulish and the above Gunslinger can be an effective way to inflict heavy damage while restoring decent HP at the same time.

Bugs[]

  • PCPC Playstation 4Playstation 4 The amount of rads inflicted by firing the weapon will not be affected by the player character's radiation resistance. This is a permanent bug, if it happens, it will happen for the rest of the game. On PlayStation 4, this bug will always occur if the player has the Penetrator perk. [verified]
  • PCPC Playstation 4Playstation 4 Xbox OneXbox One Throwing a grenade when armed with the salvaged Assaultron head will sometimes irradiate the user as if they had fired it. [verified]
  • PCPC Sometimes the Assaultron head will never hit anything in V.A.T.S. regardless of displayed hit chance. Even criticals will miss completely. So far the only fix seems to be reloading an older save or restarting the game. [verified]
  • PCPC The Assaultron head can be glitched in such a way as to deal effectively infinite damage, causing any hit to kill any enemy on a single charge. This may only occur in conjunction with the above bug preventing V.A.T.S. from functioning with the weapon. This is a permanent effect for the save it occurs in. [verified]
  • PCPC The Assaultron head can be charged an unlimited number of times, with no noticeable effect on damage dealt. This bug may only occur in conjunction with the above infinite damage glitch. This is a permanent effect for the save it occurs in. [verified]
