The Red Gate is a location in Zion Canyon in the Fallout: New Vegas add-on Honest Hearts.
Background[]
By early Janurary 2124, the elderly Randall Clark realized that his age was catching up with him and he resolved to die in a place that wouldn't be easily accessed by the group of children he had been watching over since they came to Zion months prior. He didn't want them to find out that their protector and "Father," as he was called in his personal notes, was really a mortal man.
He eventually settled on the Red Gate, noting that the cold air temperature would ease him into death. Hauling a duffle bag with all his remaining possessions up there with him, Clark recorded the final entry of his journal, lamenting on the course of his life and the people he'd lost.[1]
Eventually, Randall Clark's life ended and his remains lay on the rocks of the Red Gate for the next 150+ years until the Courier came to Zion in 2281.[2]
Layout[]
Situated north-northwest of the Red Rapids docks, on top of some rocks overlooking the river, the area contains a trio of tall evergreen trees that mask the skeletal remains of the Survivalist, clutching his duffle bag right next to him.
The map marker for the location can be reached by continuously going around the rock formation and eventually reaching it. A way up can also be found to the northwest of the Red Gate; red dirt goes halfway up, and a steep rock slope is barely climbable the rest of the way. Clark's remains can be found against a rock formation facing west-northwest (his gaze looks directly at Bighorn Bluff if viewed on the Pip-Boy's world map).

It is possible for the AI of White Legs enemies to pathfind up to the location and take the Survivalist's rifle before the player character does. The same can happen if Waking Cloud or Follows-Chalk are a companion. If the weapon is taken by an NPC and not retrieved before completing the add-on, it will become unobtainable as all NPCs in Zion Canyon despawn after completing either Crush the White Legs or Flight from Zion.
