Don't piss around. I don't wanna be standing here with my thumb up my ass all day!

Jericho is a former raider residing in Megaton in the Capital Wasteland in Fallout 3. He is a possible companion of the Lone Wanderer.

Background[]

In his past, Jericho was a ruthless and deadly raider, killing and stealing for measly amounts of caps and loot for even the slightest of reasons. After fighting along with other raider gangs for many years and becoming a crack shot with a rifle, Jericho saw fit to "retire" and settled down in Megaton to enjoy his twilight years. Despite being out of the game for a long time, he has not lose touch with his raider ways. While the smug-lipped, foul-mouth Jericho will lend his marksmanship to protect the town, he more often than not prefers to guzzle booze and spew curses at passersby completely care-free. Rumors are abound that he also occasionally does some odd jobs for Colin Moriarty.[Non-game 1]

By the time the Lone Wanderer leaves Vault 101 in 2277, Jericho has begun having thoughts about getting back out into the wastes to fight and kill freely, though he'd prefer if he was paid for "equipment" expenses upfront as a start.

Interactions with the player character[]

Interactions overview[]

Interactions
Paving the Way
This character is a permanent companion.

Companion[]

  • Jericho can be recruited as a companion by finding him at Moriarty's Saloon and paying him a sum of 1000 caps, and only while the player character has Evil Karma.
    • He has the same response to trying to hire him with Good or Neutral Karma.[1]

Effects of player's actions[]

  • Jericho will not automatically quit if one's Karma improves above Evil and if dismissed, he can be rehired free of charge (though still requires the Evil Karma rating).
  • If all of Megaton's inhabitants are killed (manually, not via the bomb exploding) while Jericho is an active companion, he will not attack the player character. But if the brahmin outside the clinic is killed, or contents of his house are stolen, and then after that, he is dismissed at any time, he will turn hostile.
  • If The Power of the Atom is completed by detonating the bomb and destroying Megaton while he is an active companion (thus, not dying in the explosion) and then he is dismissed afterward, Jericho will walk to the Megaton ruins and stay in front of the crater. He will mention the destruction of Megaton before leaving[2] and again when spoken to but will not feel sorry for its residents.[3] He also expresses a dislike for being left to stand around in so much radiation.[4] He can still be recruited as a companion even in this circumstance.
  • If Jericho survives the destruction of Megaton and witnesses the player character kill Moira Brown at the Megaton ruins, he will turn hostile. If he is currently employed when Moira is killed, he turns hostile as soon as he is dismissed.

Other interactions[]

  • Jericho's dialogue when first meeting the player character changes depending on whether they are wearing the Vault 101 jumpsuit.[5]
  • One can persuade Jericho to tell them a secret for 20 bottle caps. He shares that Colin Moriarty keeps a key around his neck, which unlocks the upstairs locker in the Saloon. Inside are all the caps Gob and Nova make, as well as a combat shotgun. However, the key was cut meaning the Hard-locked locker can only be picked open.
  • If Jericho is not an active companion when Megaton is destroyed during The Power of the Atom, he will be killed along with the rest of the town (sans Moira Brown) and become unobtainable as a companion.
  • If Jericho is given a pack of cigarettes, he will begin smoking them after exiting dialogue.

Notes[]

  • Even though he coughs blood and requests that they stop so he can catch his breath, his combat skill and movement are unchanged.
  • He will sometimes comment on how the collar of his armor is too tight.[6]
  • Jericho boasts about being "the best shot with a rifle" in town and how he occasionally lends his skills defending against raiders along with Lucas Simms, Deputy Weld and Stockholm.
  • He can sometimes be heard grumbling that he is stepped in something and that he worries about the stability of the floor they both are standing on.
  • Jericho prefers the pre-War bonnet to virtually all other non-combat headgear.[verification needed]
  • Sometimes he will say "I've been here before," however this is just another line of his frequent banter and will say it regardless of where he is.
  • He will sometimes comment that "that's a good spot for a sniper" at various points in the wasteland.
  • During The American Dream, like most other companions, Jericho will not appear with the player character at Raven Rock. Instead, they can travel back to Megaton where he can be found sitting in Moriarty's Saloon or walking around nearby.

Non-game

  1. Fallout 3 Official Game Guide Game of the Year Edition p.78: "Jericho
Jericho, 65, was once a Raider, and he lied, stole, and murdered with the best of them. But now he's an old man and, miraculously, is still alive. He was smart enough to settle down in Megaton and leave his old life behind him. He is reluctant to reveal his history for fear someone may try to get revenge. He hangs around Moriarty's, and rumors circulate that Jericho has done a few nasty jobs for the man."
