Sierra Petrovita is a Nuka-Cola obsessive who lives in Girdershade in Fallout 3. Ten years later, she can be found at the Nuka-World amusement park near the Commonwealth, encountered in the Fallout 4 add-on Nuka World.

Background[]

One of only two residents of the overpass-hidden settlement named Girdershade, Sierra Petrovita is known for her hyperfixation on Nuka-Cola Corporation products, which began when her lips first touched a bottle of Nuka-Cola.[1] She has dedicated much of her life since in pursuit of knowledge related to Nuka-Cola, reading what she could[2] and collecting many flavors of Nuka-Cola products, whether it be the popular soft drinks they produced, the branded vending machines they were dispensed in, or the promotional merchandise created to advertise the drinks.[3]

Orphaned at some point in her youth,[Non-game 1] Sierra settled underneath the wrecked overpass that came to be known as Girdershade at the age of 16,[4][5] becoming the de-facto founder of the small settlement.[Non-game 2] Though orphaned, her parents left with her with a sizable inheritance, which was used to further fuel the girl's hyperfixation on Nuka-Cola by acquiring drinks and merchandise from merchants, travelers and the various populated towns across the Capital Wasteland.[Non-game 1]

In 2267, Sierra would found the Nuka-Cola fan club,[4] serving as its President, Recording Secretary, Treasurer,[6] and by 2277, the sole winner of the club's Collection Award for ten consecutive years.[4] Her collection is extensive, spanning specially-branded toys, banners, clocks, stools, fridges, neon signs, lamps, as well as Nuka-Cola soft drinks,[7] including the sought after limited-edition flavor, Nuka-Cola Quantum.[8] Her collection would grow not only from her own purchases,[Non-game 1] but from the aid of the settlement's only other occupant, Ronald Laren,[3] most notably providing her with a pristine vending machine that she considers to be the "pride and joy" of her entire collection.[3][9]

Sierra is blissfully unaware of Ronald's true motives behind aiding her collection. The thirty-three year old widower, arriving in Girdershade after wandering the wasteland in wake of his wife's death, desires to have a more intimate relationship with her, though his advances and remarks towards her have been met with stonewall naiveté and obliviousness.[Non-game 3] She mistakes his euphemisms for sex for more literal meanings: being told Ronald wants to "get into [her] pants" leads to Sierra being confused as to why Ronald would want to wear her "filthy woman's pants."[10] The phrase "butter my muffin" is also taken literally by her, instead thinking it means buttering actual muffins.[11]

Ronald's continued interest in pursuing Sierra would prove to work out in her favor, for his presence at Girdershade, coupled with the settlement's relatively hidden location,[12] provide her with adequate protection against threats, such as against raiders.[13] In one instance, a posse of raiders led by a man named Lug-Nut were killed by Ronald after they attempted to breach his house, resulting in the leader making haste out of the locale.[14] Aside from Ronald, the only other person visiting Sierra to help with her collection is a wasteland scavenger who sells Nuka-Cola Quantum, often visiting Girdershade to sell them to her.[15]

By 2287, Sierra had temporarily ventured out from her home in Girdershade to fulfill a lifelong dream of hers: visiting the Nuka-World amusement park in Bradberton, Massachusetts, west of Boston.[16] After trekking hundreds of miles away from the safety of her home, Sierra eventually found her way to the formerly bustling pre-War amusement park, finding it inhabited by three rival raider gangs that had monopolized trade in the area by enslaving the traders who previously inhabited the park.[17]

Though Sierra was specifically instructed by the raiders to stay in the Nuka-Town market,[17] she veered off course—or rather, on course—towards the office of John-Caleb Bradberton, even offering to give tours to the gangs of the park, though unrequited.[18] Her goal was to locate ten "hidden Cappys" across the park using a pair of special glasses, which, according to a pre-war contest, would reveal a hidden code allowing access to Bradberton's office. She hoped his office would contain the original formula for Nuka-Cola—the "crown jewel" as she puts it, for her collection back home.[1]

Personality and traits[]

Sierra has a habit of cheerfully 'infodumping' large swaths of her knowledge about Nuka-Cola onto other parties,[19][20] whether or not they show interest in it,[18] a habit that she is aware can be "overwhelming" to some people.[21] Her lifelong pursuit of anything related to Nuka-Cola has left her with little time to form meaningful relationships, and those few friends that she does have, such as with her neighbor Ronald, are often sidelined by her hyperfixation. Sierra also has difficulties recognizing sarcasm[1] or understanding euphemisms, often taking people's words at their literal meaning.[10][11][22][23][24][25]

Though Sierra understands the dangers of the wasteland, enough to warn the Lone Wanderer about the raiders at Evergreen Mills,[12] she struggles to recognize these dangers when confronted with them directly.[17] When threatened with a bullet to the head by a member of the Disciples raider gang, she shows no self awareness about the danger she finds herself in, only remarking about how unfriendly they are.[17] When describing how Ronald was attacked by a group of raiders led by Lug-Nut, she imitates their voices and treats it as if it were an exciting anecdote rather than a brush with death.[14]

Sierra also displays difficulties with empathy and understanding the feelings of others. Upon meeting her idol John-Caleb Bradberton, she shows little regard for his current predicament, that being a disembodied head in a glass container kept alive for 210 years. When Bradberton asks the Sole Survivor to shut off his life support, Sierra severely underestimates his suffering, choosing to offer him company rather than respect his dying wishes.[26] Only after the deed is completed does she see the fault in her ways,[27][28][29][30][31] though still viewing his suffering through the lens of her hyperfixation.[32][33] While she tolerates opinions that differ from her own, she also considers them wrong or "silly" and shows naivety in her ability to change said opinions.[34]

Knowledge of Nuka-Cola[]

In the process of collecting Nuka-Cola merchandise and any reading materials related to the drink—a pursuit she has happily spent years on—Sierra has amassed encyclopedic knowledge of the Nuka-Cola corporation and its history.[35] She is intimately familiar with the circumstances behind the beverage's invention in 2044, the reason for the drink bottle's blue hue, its gradual climb to popularity by 2067, the wide array of merchandise made to promote the drink, and its legacy across the wasteland.[20][36]

This knowledge extends to the specifics of the beverage itself. She is aware of the soda's ingredients, though not its exact formula, as well as the fact that the Great Passion Fruit Famine of 2044 affected its taste in a way that was noticed by the general public.[37] She is particularly familiar with the history and development of Nuka-Cola Quantum, including its marketing slogans, its use of pomegranate as an additional fruit flavor and radioactive isotopes for "extra kick", the side effects of said isotopes, and the details of its promotion and production.[38][39][40]

In 2287, she showcases deep-rooted knowledge for the various establishments and attractions located in Nuka-Town USA at Nuka-World, fancying herself as "one of the foremost authorities" of the amusement park.[41] These include the dining experience at Fizztop Grille, the games found inside the Nuka-Cade, the "more refined" dining experience at the the Parlor Dinner Theatre, the popularity and massive lines for Cappy's Cafe, the parks estimated attendance numbers, and lastly, N.I.R.A., the park's informational attendant.[19]

Daily schedule[]

In Fallout 3, Sierra stays in her house, drinking Nuka-Cola. In the Fallout 4 add-on Nuka-World, she can be found near Bradberton's office in Nuka-Town USA.

Sierra Petrovita: "Well, okay. To be honest I'm so excited I can barely keep it in! It'll be a relief to finally tell someone. I guess you could think of me as the world's biggest Nuka-Cola fan. I've been obsessed with the stuff since the first time I tasted it. I collect all the merchandise I can find, like these awesome Cappy Glasses I'm wearing. But these aren't just ordinary sunglasses. They were part of a really cool contest that started just before the war. The winner of the contest would get to meet the famous John-Caleb Bradberton himself!"
The Sole Survivor: "Oh boy! John-Caleb Bradberton! How exciting!"
Sierra Petrovita: "I know! That's exactly how I felt when I first learned about the contest. It's so nice to meet someone who really understands. So to win the contest, you had to find ten images of Cappy, the Nuka-Cola mascot, hidden throughout the park. Each image has part of a code or something, and only these special glasses can reveal it. Now, I know what you're thinking. Bradberton's long gone, who cares about the contest anymore? Well I'm betting that somewhere in his office is the Original Nuka-Cola Formula! That formula was one of the great mysteries of the soft drink world, and it would be the crown jewel of my collection. If you can help me get it, I promise it'll be worth your while."
    (Sierra Petrovita's dialogue)
  2. The Sole Survivor: "You know all that from memory?"
Sierra Petrovita: "Oh sure! I've spent most of my life reading everything I could get my hands on about Nuka-Cola, including Nuka-World!"

Sierra Petrovita: "Well, look around you! Toys, banners, stools... anything I can get my hands on really. My pride and joy is my perfect Nuka-Cola Machine. It's barely even scratched! Actually, I have to give credit to Ronald for donating some of it."

Sierra Petrovita: "Yep, I'm the President, the Recording Secretary and the Treasurer. Once a year, we gather here in Girdershade to have a cook off using Nuka-Cola in the recipe. Last year I won with my 'Poached Roach in Nuka-Sauce'. Delicious!"

  11. 11.0 11.1 The Lone Wanderer: "Has Ronald been bothering you?"
Sierra Petrovita: "Oh no, not at all. In fact, I've been getting lots of nice attention from him lately! Ever since he brought the Quantum to fill my machine, he keeps whispering sweet nothings to me. In fact, he told me he's going to 'butter my muffin.' Isn't that sweet that he'd do such a silly little chore for me? Now all I need are muffins..."
    (Sierra Petrovita's dialogue)
  12. 12.0 12.1 The Lone Wanderer: "Is there anything else interesting to see near Girdershade?"
Sierra Petrovita: "Well, to the east there are some nasty Raiders in Evergreen Mills. I'd stay away from there if I were you. Luckily, we're kind of hidden here under the old highway, so no one bothers us."
    (Sierra Petrovita's dialogue)
  13. The Lone Wanderer: "Who's Ronald?"
Sierra Petrovita: "Ronald? Oh! I'm sorry, I figured you met him already. He usually chats with people who enter Girdershade. He's my neighbor and my protector as he calls it. Imagine if some nasty Raider wanted to take my stuff... he'd show them a thing or two! He's such a sweetie, you should talk to him!"
    (Sierra Petrovita's dialogue)
  14. 14.0 14.1 The Lone Wanderer: "Tell me more about this Ronald guy."

    The Lone Wanderer: "Um... Sierra..."
Sierra Petrovita: "... so they like kicked in Ronald's door and he was like 'BLAM' with his gun and one of them got all splattered. Then the other one tried to like hit him all in his head with some club and Ronald was so cool how he dodged it and shot the guy in the face. Then the Lug-Nut guy was in Ronald's face with the 'I'll kick your ass' stuff and Ronald was like "Hell no..." and he punched the..."
The Lone Wanderer: "Sierra! Please. I get it. He's tough."

    (Sierra Petrovita's dialogue)
  15. Scavenger: "I promise you this is the real deal, my friend. For only 100 caps, you'd be one of two people in the Wasteland ever to drink one! I usually sell them to a lady in Girdershade, she's just nuts about them."

  16. Sierra Petrovita: "Hello again! Yes, I'm still here and still searching. Nuka-World! I've always dreamed of coming here, and now I've finally made it. This place is amazing, don't you think?"

Sierra Petrovita: "I'm not here for the market! I didn't travel hundreds of miles to go shopping."
Disciples Scavver:: "I don't suppose you came here for a bullet in the brain either, so if you want to live, I suggest you stay where you belong."

  18. 18.0 18.1 The Sole Survivor: "That was very informative. Thank you."
Sierra Petrovita: "It was my pleasure! Especially since none of the gangs wanted to hear any of that. Believe me, I tried. Now, I promised I'd tell you why I'm here, so I will."
    (Sierra Petrovita's dialogue)
  19. 19.0 19.1 Sierra Petrovita: "Fizztop Mountain here provides a commanding view of Nuka-Town U.S.A. and the other areas of the park. Some of the finest -- and most expensive -- dining in the park was found at Fizztop Grille, which you can see up on the mountain's slope. Not all of the attractions at Nuka-World were rides. The Nuka-Cade here boasted dozens of exciting games of skill for the whole family to enjoy. Winning the games meant earning tickets you could spend to get all kinds of awesome Nuka-Cola merchandise. If I'd been around back then, I'd probably have spent a whole week in here trying to win all the prizes. Those seeking a more refined experience could sit down to a sumptuous meal at the Parlor Dinner Theater, home to the renowned Nuka-World Players. The Parlor wasn't just a dinner theater. It also hosted one of the park's most sought-after events, the Bottle and Cappy Show. The show was so popular, tickets would sell out months in advance. With its brightly-colored design and delicious burgers and fries, it's no surprise Cappy's Cafe was hugely popular with kids. The cafe was best known for its super-spicy Nuka-Blast Burger, which was so hot it was nicknamed 'the A-bomb on a bun.' On the park's busiest days, the line to get into the cafe was said to stretch all the way to Fizztop Mountain! Past the market is Nuka-World's front gate, which led to this entrance plaza. it was widely believed that the park's average daily attendance numbered in the tens of thousands. Of course, the Nuka-Cola Corporation never released official figures. but from everything I've read, I think that's a low estimate. You might have seen the robot dressed like a big red Nuka-Cola bottle? That's N.I.R.A., the park's informational attendant. She might be the only one in the park who's as enthusiastic about Nuka-Cola as I am! Haha! And that concludes the tour! Pretty good, huh?"
    (Sierra Petrovita's dialogue)
  20. 20.0 20.1 Sierra Petrovita: "When Nuka-Cola was invented by John-Caleb Bradberton in 2044, it quickly became the world's most popular soft drink. The wonder drink soon drew a dedicated following which prompted the Nuka-Cola Corporation to release many promotional items like these. By 2067, a Nuka-Cola machine such as this rare pristine model could be found on almost every street in America. Even in today's crazy world, Nuka-Cola is still the number one choice of refreshment among Armageddon's survivors."
    (Sierra Petrovita's dialogue)
  21. Sierra Petrovita: "Some people say I can be a little overwhelming... is that why you've stopped talking?"
Note: This line plays when the player remains idle while in dialogue with Sierra.
    (Sierra Petrovita's dialogue)
  22. Ronald Laren: "Hi there, sweet cheeks. I got something for you."
Sierra Petrovita: "Oh my goodness! You absolute dear! You found the Quantum to fill my machine!"
Ronald Laren: "Yeah, I'll fill your machine all right. Hehe."
    Sierra Petrovita: "What was that?"
Ronald Laren: "Nothing. So, you wanna' celebrate?"
Sierra Petrovita: "Well, maybe later. I have a lot of things to do now. Need to get all of this Quantum icy cold."
Ronald Laren: "That's ok, baby. We have plenty of time. You know where to find me when you want some of this."
    Sierra Petrovita: "Some of what?"
Ronald Laren: "He he. That's ok, Sierra. Play hard to get. I love it!"
Sierra Petrovita: "Yep, they sure were hard to get, and you got 'em you big 'ole teddy bear! Anyway, gotta' get these into the machine. Seeya, sweetie!"
Ronald Laren: "Yep. I'll be seeing you, soon I hope."
(Sierra Petrovita and Ronald Laren's dialogue)
  23. The Lone Wanderer: "Look, lady. I just want to get out of this nuthouse..."
Sierra Petrovita: "Oh, I think you came to the wrong place. I think there's someone in California that collects nuts. Or was it Nevada? Hmmm..."
    (Sierra Petrovita's dialogue)
  24. The Lone Wanderer: "Can't you see, Sierra? He just wants to sleep with you."
Sierra Petrovita: "A sleepover? Awesome! We could tell bedtime stories and do each other's hair and all sorts of fun stuff. I could even make some Nuka-Cola treats for when we get the munchies late at night. That would be fun!"
    (Sierra Petrovita's dialogue)
  25. The Lone Wanderer: "I think you're crazy."
Sierra Petrovita: "Sure am! Crazy for the taste of Nuka-Cola! Hahahaha! Look, we can just talk about it all day, or you can take my tour of the place and drink some frosty Nuka-Cola! You game?"
    (Sierra Petrovita's dialogue)
  26. John-Caleb Bradberton: "I want you to shut off the power to this machine that's keeping me alive. I want to die."
    Sierra Petrovita: "What?! No!"
The Sole Survivor: "Yeah, if our places were reversed, I'd probably want the same thing."
John-Caleb Bradberton: "Then I trust you will honor my wish."
Sierra Petrovita: "You can't kill him! He's a great man! He invented Nuka-Cola, the best thing in the world!"
John-Caleb Bradberton: "Young lady, you don't know what a torment it is, being trapped here alone and staring at the same wall, decade after decade. Just... please... set me free at last. I can't bear this loneliness any longer."
Sierra Petrovita: "Wait, wait, wait! I have an idea! Mister Bradberton wants to die because he's lonely, right? Well, maybe I could stay with him. You know, keep him company, give him someone to talk to. He's like a hero to me."
    (Sierra Petrovita's dialogue)
  27. The Sole Survivor: "He made a choice, and I respected that choice. You should, too."
Sierra Petrovita: "I... I guess so."
    (Sierra Petrovita's dialogue)
  28. The Sole Survivor: "You're being selfish, Sierra. This wasn't about what you wanted, it was about what he needed."
Sierra Petrovita: "What he needed... I hadn't thought of it that way."
    (Sierra Petrovita's dialogue)
  29. The Sole Survivor: "He was trapped and alone for centuries, and I set him free from that hell. I did the right thing."
Sierra Petrovita: "But what if... no. You're right. I'm thinking only about myself. About what I wanted."
    (Sierra Petrovita's dialogue)
  30. The Sole Survivor: "I know you're disappointed, Sierra, but ask yourself - what was best for him?"
Sierra Petrovita: "Well... maybe you're right. I guess I didn't consider his feelings as much as I should have."
    (Sierra Petrovita's dialogue)
  31. Sierra Petrovita: "I can't believe he was alive all that time, stuck in that room. That must have been awful."
    (Sierra Petrovita's dialogue)
  32. Sierra Petrovita: "The inventor of Nuka-Cola... that was the opportunity of a lifetime. Emphasis on "was"."
    (Sierra Petrovita's dialogue)
  33. Sierra Petrovita: "I couldn't stand being a frozen head. How could I drink Nuka-Cola?"
    (Sierra Petrovita's dialogue)
  34. The Lone Wanderer: "I just don't like it."
Sierra Petrovita: "Well, I guess everyone has their own opinion. Even if it's silly! Why don't you take the tour of my collection? Maybe it will give you a new perspective on things. What do you say?"
    (Sierra Petrovita's dialogue)
  35. The Sole Survivor: "You run a Nuka-Cola Museum?"
Sierra Petrovita: "Absolutely! I've spent years collecting all the Nuka-Cola merchandise I could find. It's all on display at my home in a settlement called Girdershade. I give tours to anyone who stops by. And I can promise you this - you won't find another collection like mine in the Capital Wasteland, the Commonwealth, or any place else! Well, I'd stay and chat some more, but I've got to get back to my search."
    (Sierra Petrovita's dialogue)
  36. The Lone Wanderer: "Why a blue bottle if the soda is brown? That's just weird."
Sierra Petrovita: "Aha! That's where you're wrong! Market research done in 2052 said that the blue color was the favorite in 86 people out of 100 polled. And the particular hue of blue is Dazzling Blue, scientifically proven to be the most pleasing of all blues!"
    (Sierra Petrovita's dialogue)
  37. The Lone Wanderer: "The taste... I could never get used to it."
Sierra Petrovita: "The flavor is the essence of seventeen different fruits mixed in just the right proportion to give the beverage that delicious taste. In fact, in the Great Passion Fruit Famine of 2044, people actually noticed the taste difference when the flavor was changed!"
    (Sierra Petrovita's dialogue)
  38. Sierra Petrovita: "As promised... here is a little pick-me-up. An Ice Cold Nuka-Cola! Just look at the frost on the bottle. So cold and delicious! Pardon me... I tend to lose myself when I hold onto a Nuka-Cola. Before I get to the little proposition I have for you let me tell you a little bit about Nuka-Cola Quantum."
The Lone Wanderer: "Quantum? Never heard of it before."
Sierra Petrovita: "Well, right before the bombs fell, the good folks at Nuka-Cola developed what they hoped was an improvement on the original formula. Calling it Nuka-Cola Quantum, it was said to have 'Twice the calories, twice the carbohydrates, twice the caffeine and twice the taste!'"
The Lone Wanderer: "So, what went wrong"
Sierra Petrovita: "Well, the flavor certainly wasn't the issue. The public was just split on the unique feature of the Quantum's appearance. You see, to make it stand out on store shelves and to give it that extra kick, the formula called for a mild isotope. The effect was a drink that not only boosted your energy, but also glowed with a bright blue light!"
The Lone Wanderer: "Wait, did you say it has an isotope in it? As in it's radioactive?"
Sierra Petrovita: "Oh no, only ever-so-mildly! No ill effects were ever recorded. Well, it does have the unique property of making your... ummm... ...your pee glow."
The Lone Wanderer: "Glowing pee? That sounds like dangerous stuff!"
Sierra Petrovita: "Oh no! Not at all! Nuka-Cola Quantum was made under the supervision of the Food and Drug Association. They would NEVER let harmful products end up in stores!"
    (Sierra Petrovita's dialogue)
  39. The Lone Wanderer: "What do you know about the Nuka-Cola Bottling Facility?"
Sierra Petrovita: "Well, the D.C. Facility was like their main factory just before the bombs fell. All the research they did was performed there. It was the only facility to ever produce Quantum. They were in a test market mode, and they would have expanded production if the drink caught on. Too bad they didn't, otherwise Quantum would be as plentiful as regular Nuka-Cola."
    (Sierra Petrovita's dialogue)
  40. The Lone Wanderer: "What do you know about Nuka-Cola Quantum?"
Sierra Petrovita: "Well, besides what I've already told you, not much. They were working on a way to prevent the glow from remaining once it passed through a person's system, but it was never perfected. I heard that the stuff they used to make it glow and give it that kick has a shelf life of over a thousand years. Should make the bottles easier to spot!"
    (Sierra Petrovita's dialogue)
  41. The Sole Survivor: "I'm a fellow Nuka-Cola fan, so you can definitely trust me."
Sierra Petrovita: "Wow, really? That's great! In fact, that gives me an idea! I've read all kinds of things about the park, and I'd love to tell someone about it. How about I give you a little tour of Nuka-Town here, and when it's over, I'll share my secret. What do you say?"
The Sole Survivor: "What do you have in mind, exactly?"
Sierra Petrovita: "Well, I'm glad you asked! I like to think of myself as one of the foremost authorities on the subject of Nuka-World. I'll take you to some of the best spots right here in Nuka-Town U.S.A. and show you just how amazing this place really is. So, is that a yes?"
The Sole Survivor: "Sounds like a great idea!"
Sierra Petrovita: "Okay! Then let's get started! Right this way, if you please!"

  1. 1.0 1.1 1.2 1.3 Fallout 3 Official Game Guide Game of the Year Edition p.97: "Sierra Petrovita
Sierra is a beautiful, 26-year-old, blonde who has no regard for anything but finding and consuming Nuka-Cola. She is absolutely fanatical about the blue drink and has been subsisting on the stuff for years. She has spent every Bottle Cap her parents left acquiring the drink from merchants, travelers, and towns spread throughout the Wasteland. Even though her looks are a desirable target for men, her personality leaves much to be desired. She is so oddly fascinated by Nuka-Cola that she will constantly shift conversations to speak about it and cares little for anything else. This is the subject of much anguish for the only other inhabitant of Girdershade."

  2. Fallout 3 Official Game Guide: Girdershade is a tiny settlement located under an overpass. It got its name from the broken-off portion of the bridge and the exposed girders: all that’s left of its superstructure. The population of Girdershade numbers two, Sierra Petrovita and Ronald Laren. They are both long-time residents of the settlement, Sierra having been the 'founder' of the place and Ronald occupying the second house after its original occupants were slain."
  3. Fallout 3 Official Game Guide Game of the Year Edition p.93: "Ronald Laren
After his wife died, 33-year-old Ronald wandered the Wasteland until settling in Girdershade. Living in close proximity to Sierra Petrovita has made him feel even worse about being alone. His thoughts of loneliness are not as wholesome as most would think. Basically he misses the physical side of relationships. Feeling these urges, he's made several advances upon Sierra, who is completely oblivious to his motivations, because she is absorbed in her pursuit of Nuka-Cola. Ronald mistakes Sierra's rejection as being spurned, and this has angered him a great deal. Fortunately, he doesn't want to physically force himself on her but wishes to 'get even' with her in other ways."
