Bar Harbor was a town on Mount Desert Island in Hancock County, Maine.

Background[]

Once a popular tourist destination in the Down East region of Maine, within its borders are small areas of human habitation. Its ruin is near the largest part of Acadia National Park, including Cadillac Mountain, the highest point within twenty-five miles of the coastline of the Eastern United States.[1]

Prior to a catastrophic 1947 fire, the town was a famous summer colony for the elite, and subsequently became a vital part of Acadia National Park. After the Great War, salvagers and repeated returns of the Fog and creatures took a toll on the area. The situation was exacerbated by the Bar Harbor bridge connecting the island to the mainland collapsing due to a lack of maintenance. The town's boardwalk houses the last remaining active settlement on the island, named Far Harbor, possibly due to the damaged B on the old Bar Harbor sign looking like an F.[1]

Many a landslide has blanketed this rural town, with many local residents becoming partially buried. Time, however, has caused the most devastation. Nevertheless, most of the major roads are still passable.

Notes[]

A sign advertising the pre-War town can be found at Berkeley Springs in Appalachia.[2]

Appearances[]

The town of Bar Harbor appears only in the Fallout 4 add-on Far Harbor, and is only mentioned in Fallout 76.

Behind the scenes[]

Bar Harbor is based on the real-world location of the same name.
