Vault Academy[]

At long last, I am here to say hello, welcome to the Vault Academy. I am Classic Kate, your mentor and guide through the attractions. Right now I am working on moving the guides from my personal pages to the wiki pages, so forgive the mess. The first two lessons are good to go, though. So we can start. Hooray!

The main general editing program page can be found here. All lessons but the first will have a brief quiz, the answers to which you can record here. There are 12 lessons, a final exam (not scary) and then you will be prepared to go out and do great edits!

If what I have written is weird or confusing, assume its my writing and not your comprehension. So without further do, let me know if you have any questions, and I am so glad to have a member of the Free Kates enrolled, boy howdy. Adding references[]

Hey Katy, outstanding job on adding all those references for Porter and the Warwick family, they are much appreciated. I had to add some quotation marks though, you only placed a two apostrophes at the beginning and end of each quote, where it should be the two apostrophes to make the text italic and two quotation marks right after them at the beginning / before them at the end. Other than that, you are doing great from what I have seen. Let me know if I can help out with anything. I noticed, you are doing great out there. I also like that you place citation needed templates on unreferenced infos.

For those, if you don't find anything in a character's dialogue, you usually find the info needed in

1) a related character's dialogue or 2) in terminal entries for the character's location or 3) in notes or holotapes related to the character.

All in all, very solid work and grand writing, keep them coming.

Audio file categorization[]

Hello! Thanks for adding a bunch of FO4 audio files. After you upload them, though, make sure that they have categories. Use Category:Fallout 4 audio dialogues for base game content, or "Category:<add-on> audio dialogues" for add-ons. Thanks! -CamelChip (talk) 18:39, 13 May 2021 (UTC)

I am not sure if I am allowed to pick favorites, but if I am, you got that spot. I am sorry I have not been very timely in TVA lessons as I should be. I feel great shame but hope to catch up soon. Also soon I will be starting a few projects having to do with FNV world objects, and then another one with FO76 world objects that are workshop objects. If you are interested in either, I would fall all over myself to have you on the team. Also your signature is probably my favorite in the world. The pack[]

Noticed you added a citation needed to the pack page. Tried looking for the dialogue file where its mentioned but couldn't find it but remember from the game that it's generic pack dialogue, which goes along the lines of "Mason tarred and feathered the last alphas".Branebriar1930 (talk) 20:15, 29 May 2021 (UTC)

Yeah, I was thinking of that one too, but like you said, it's generic :( I had some help finding the line for other generic dialogue earlier in the same article. Content policy[]

Saw your recent edit summary, but noticed something. While weapons needing dev confirmation is policy, they are the only thing currenty set by policy which requires such. Everything else under Behind the Scenes requires dev confirmation or is allowed if there is a visual or textual correlation. Great Mara (talk) 13:10, 30 July 2021 (UTC)

Citation needed[]

Can you not add so many citations needed templates on pages? It looks bad to see it every sentence. Instead try to find out where it comes from (mostly a holotape or maybe terminal entry), and add that reference. Jspoel 16:45, 15 October 2021 (UTC)

Why do you keep adding these citation needed templates? It this something Kate told you to do? Imagine you keep doing this for all the deceased character pages, the wiki pages would be totally cluttered with citation needed and give the impression of a very incomplete wiki. I admit it's sometimes hard to find the source but the information must have been put there for good reason at some point. You could also check the page history to see where content is added and ask them where they got the info. I don't agree with all these templates and you could do them in a few less edits too. You're putting the deceased character category below the interwikis. It should be placed above the interwikis, with the other categories. Jspoel 17:35, 15 October 2021 (UTC)

They do look bad, and the wiki is incomplete if we don't have the references. It's almost like they should have had a referenced to begin with. The {{citation needed}} tag is useful, as it allows people to see what articles need citations and help out. Since there is literally nothing against this in our policy, I will continue top put these in for now, as I am working on a category project and I like to finish one thing before I start another. I am also keeping track of them in my sandbox, as I do plan to return to them later when the project is finished. I would also like to note that your behavior is hinging on edit stalking and I will be bringing this up with another crat.

As for the number of edits? You were doing something similar on other pages I edited, using two edits per article instead of one, and as I am a patroller, my edits do not need to be verified. Unless there is a policy that goes against this, I'm not sure I understand the problem.

As for the categories, totally my bad, I was using the "add category" button since it was faster instead of a full edit, and Fin told me I also missed a |Deceased break at the end, which I will correct from this point forward. I'm sure you understand since, as you've said, those pesky edit summaries can be so inconvenient when you're doing 100 edits a day. I could have found that yourself with not too much effort and it would have avoided the citation needed there. This is not about effort, as I am aware that this can easily be found on the Vault 111 terminal entries. This is about making it easier for the wiki to be collaborate together, and as I said clearly in my last reply, I am focusing on one project, and one project only right now. Additionally, |Deceased is intentional, as otherwise it files everything under "F," which I have confirmed with multiple other editors on Discord - the Nukapedia Discord, which I feel I should specify since there are offshoots such as the separate bureaucrat Discord that you and Richie have curated. You're welcome to bring this topic to #the-editorial-ballpit there as well if you are so inclined, as we have already been talking extensively about it. Not using the deceased parameter doesn't leave the page under F in the category, it leaves it under the correct alphabet letter, namely the name of the page and not the first letter of the category where it's in. Now you just added Smith to that category and as you see in Category:Fallout 4 deceased characters, you left it under the D of deceased and not the S where it should be under. Don't use that parameter, it will only get reverted in my opinion. I'll leave the same message in the editorial bullpen tomorrow is my plan. Jspoel 20:18, 15 October 2021 (UTC)

From one to the next[]

Funny, getting to be in the middle of the Kate/y sandwich as holder of the backpack. This backpack has been held by staff members of every caliber and disposition, with legacies which vary just as much. Staff who are long since gone and forgotten by all but the oldest remaining users, staff who made good decisions and bad, and staff who folks still look up to. And it's been around for even more drama, as these users were forced to deal with all manner of conflicts and drama. God willing in another 10 years, we'll be judged among the better remembered users. Here's to your time as admin!
