Blowing up megaton in Broken Steel[]

Can anybody tell me what happens if i decide to blow up megaton and then continue with the broken steel add-on? will the side quest to go to megaton still be there or will the location on the side quest be different? Reconmarine

It is not possible. You can only destroy the airfield or the citadel (which will make the bos hostile.) --Odypus 22:18, November 29, 2009 (UTC)

He's refering to the bomb so it is possible, but anyway yes the megaton side quests will not avalible anymore. - RASICTalk 23:34, December 27, 2009 (UTC)

RE:Reach the platform above Lucas Simms' house?[]

There is a door in Lucas' roof.

Reach the platform above Lucas Simms' house?[]

Can the aircraft above Lucas Simms' house be reached (I'm using the 360 version). I can see several platforms connecting to his house. Is it possible to access it within the game (if someone with the PC version has been up there, I'd be interested to know what they find)?

You can reach it without cheats via a hatch located on the top floor of his house in the ceiling. DragonJTS 14:02, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

Bartender looks like a ghoul?[]

Seems like he is one. This is probably Moriarty's Saloon. Ausir 21:54, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

Beached aircraft carrier?[]

There are two errors in that phrase. First, it's an aircraft carrier. Second, that's Rivet City, not Megaton. If someone in-game says something about Megaton being built with aircraft carrier bits, I haven't seen it yet. 199.8.68.25 21:18, 9 November 2008 (UTC)

I've seen something about it being built from aircraft parts from a nearby airfield, which has long now been covered by the ravages of the wasteland. i remember hearing "well, the parts were there, may as well use them" but I'm not entirely sure. 71.225.197.82 01:39, 13 November 2008 (UTC)

Absolutely correct. Not coincidentally, Dulles International Airport is a short way to the west of where Megaton would be, if you compare maps. --Nick East 03:39, 18 November 2008 (UTC)

The elderly lady wandering around megaton tells you this story. These are parts of airplanes, which 'fell out of the sky when the bombs detonated'. She also mentions the now covered airstrip where they found the parts. I don't remember her name (but she is listed here as Manya), but her husband's name is Nathan. I haven't changed the article so far. Oh and im also a little bitch that edits pages without permission, seriously fuck me in my tight little anus. 92.226.139.208 12:12, 13 November 2008 (UTC)

yeah the crater was actually made by a falling plane, and Megaton was built using parts from a nearby air field, this and much more from Manya ```` Dang, I wish the (Airfield) was used for a quest or even if it existed I would be happy Dubbs

random raider attack[]

Ive noticed this completely at random but, sometimes raiders show up,kill deputy weld and invade megaton, strangely enough, the first time this happened to me,i had jericho as a follower,i killed a raider when a headshot and jericho turned around and killed me with a single shot from the blackhawk, the second time jericho just stood there and got killed, the third time it happened only jericho, lucas simms, billy creel and moriarty bothered to fight, andy stahl also tried but he stood on a landmine*poor sod* Werewolfhell 21:07, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

Getting a closer look at the nuke explosion?[]

Say one were savvy with the console, they could activate the remote detonator with the console with the camera in place somewhere around Megaton. I doubt there is a really detailed destruction animation of the town, but it would still be cool to view the explosion from some different angles.

All you'd have to do is check the GECK. Find the trigger for the event, then paste trigger into the console. --Nux Matrix 02:30, 8 February 2009 (UTC)
Actually, since tennpenny tower is so far away, their might not even be an explosion at megaton. It's likely just an explosion on the edge of the tennpy tower cell, that triggers a change in megaton's cell DragonJTS 15:54, 29 April 2009 (UTC)
Then take a look at this. The guy is halfway between Megaton and Tenpenny Tower when the nuke goes off.--Amitakartok 19:56, 8 June 2009 (UTC)
I checked with the G.E.C.K. and sadly this is not a real explosion, it can be seen only in one angle, and no, megaton does not explode apart. it just removed from the game and replaced with a new instance. --Silverdust 18:29, 23 July 2009 (UTC)

Mist after blowing up Megaton[]

Will this mist ever go away? If not, that's enough reason not to blow it up right there. You can always get bad karma elsewhere. Dcruze 12:07, 7 February 2009 (UTC)

No, the mist is there for good. though it's fairly localized. DragonJTS 13:58, 28 April 2009 (UTC)
What's so bad about the mist? In my opinion, it adds atmosphere to the game. It also functions as a possible reference to Stephen King's The Mist, what with the various creatures engulfed in it and what-not. BrenMan 94 17:21, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

or maybe it's not a reference and it's a shitload of dust, etc. that was kicked by the explosion? 71.57.77.186 01:38, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

Why is the mist even there? Anywhere else there was a nuke, there's just your bog-standard wasteland dust and no big dust like at megaton.--Pratstercs 18:55, 18 August 2009 (UTC)
Well, considering that the other bombs went off 200 years earlier, it's obvious that the dust would've settled. Megaton's nuke is only recent. RudiganRex 00:34, September 20, 2009 (UTC)

This is ASH not dust.Vault 815 07:15, February 13, 2010 (UTC)

History[]

The closest airforce base is Andrews Airforce Base.

Also for those people who live in dc, south of the Lincoln memorial is an air port, that dose not exist in Fallout 3. yet was constructed in 1944. that air port is Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. it could be the reason it is not there is because it was taken apart and moved to megaton.

I guess its simply not existing. Fallout 3 is an other version of our future. The culture stayed in that one of the 40s for example. Maybe the Airport was never built or got destroyed. --Odypus 22:22, November 29, 2009 (UTC)

Trivia[]

Removed "Trivia" section. It was, in entirety, "The bomb in the center of Megaton may have been a result of a Chinese bombing run. The reason the bomb didn't explode upon impact is unknown, probably mechanical failure."

Seems kind of obvious, and stated elsewhere. --Captain192 01:32, 12 March 2009 (UTC)Captain192

Inspiration for Megaton's name[]

Vault Tec Logo?[]

On the bomb you can see a logo that looks eerily similar to the Vault Tec Logo. But to be fair, it isn't dead-on exact. If it is supposed to be Vault Tec's branding, and I think that's the case, that would mean Vault tec had it's own ordinance launched on US targets. Maybe that implies they were selling to China's Military too, or maybe they just planned to nuke the US all the long, or any number of things. Didn't want to mess with the article though because I'm sure somebody has mentioned this somewhere else on the site.

Screenshot?

[1] That link should be me pointing the reticule by it.

That's definitely not a ChiCom air force roundel, I'd place my wager on it being a Vault-Tec logo.

You're both idiots. Vault-Tec built Vaults, they did not have their own ordnance. It's a production stamp/serial label/w|e. That Furry Bastard 09:20, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
Maybe you should read the article here on Vault-Tec Corporation before calling people idiots. The first thing Under 'History' (as of when I wrote this) says that they were a major military contractor.
You're a complete moron. Military contractor means he was doing things for the military, not stockpiling nuclear weapons or launching them. That Furry Bastard 13:06, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
I never said Vault Tec launched it, just that they made nuclear bombs and planned on them being used. If the US or China shot a Vault Tec nuke into America is a great plot twist either way. I think the Megaton nuke was a defective Vault Tec bomb, that Vault Tec is totally evil, and that they knew world-ending war was required to get people in all those huge expensive vaults they built (Each designed to run vast evil social experiments). If you think me moronic and they were all innocent, I have zero problem with that. But I say they knew what was coming all the long, had some kind of hand in it, and *that* is a cool enough theory to be noted on this site somewhere.
No, it's not. I checked the texture (under architecture/megaton) and it's definitely not a Vault-Tec. Vault-Tec built Vaults and survival equipment, not nukes. To assume so is completely and utterly stupid. That Furry Bastard 19:10, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
I still think it looks similar enough to the Vault-Tec corporate logo to warrant speculation. After all, the details of the Great War itself are left ambiguous, and one could posit a conspiracy on the part of parties like the Enclave or Vault-Tec.
Vault-Tec selling Nukes to the enemy would make some sense, as it would get people into their Vaults, get them more money (from the Vault AND the Nuke).--Pratstercs 16:11, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

You are wrong the Vault Tec logo looks similar but diffrent. http://fc02.deviantart.net/fs41/f/2009/005/1/1/Vault_Tec_wallpaper_by_BaronOfEvil.jpg This is it.--Odypus 22:23, November 29, 2009 (UTC)

I think it looks incredibly like the vault tech logo and it woulsd make sense for vault tec to make and distribute atomic bombs.

with the nuclear war beginning they would be able to shove more people into the vault.

Finding lost NPC's if you have not installed any patches yet, moved from article[]

  • Before the patch mentioned below was released, sometimes you may have found that characters were missing, and their corpses were nowhere to be found. On the Xbox 360 version, those characters can be found providing they are not dead. To find them, go into Lucas Simm's house and go into the hatch that goes to the piece of the plane on top of his house. From there, go up the stairs and toward the balcony facing toward the center of Megaton. You might want to tell any partners, including Dogmeat, to stay put here. It is also a good idea to save before attempting each jump in this sequence. Jump on the railing on the right, then turn around facing the plane. Then, jump on the left side of the plane. It does not look like there is a safe place to land, but there is. (You should land on a pipe jutting out) Once you get there, walk around a bit on the side of the plane and keep trying to jump to the top. (Try jumping at the first window) You can go right through the little fence on the top of the plane. Be careful not to fall in the hole in the middle of it when you do get to the top. Next, go in front of the turbine, face it, then run toward it and jump slightly to the right of it. You should land on a higher elevation. Now walk toward the back of the plane, where the wall around Megaton is. When you get to the edge of the tail, save so you can just load back up and try again if you miss. Also, you should make sure you have full health before you attempt this jump. Now jump off the tail of the plane and over the wall and if you got it, you should be on the other side of the wall. Now you want to walk slightly north of where Springvale School would be on your world map. The best way to do this is to set a marker on Springvale School on your world map, and keep checking your map to make sure you are walking toward it. Eventually, you should see all the missing characters standing right next to each other. In my file, before the patch, I found Lucas Simms, Colin Moriarty, Billy Creel, and Walter. After the patch, only Lucas Simms was brought back within the walls of Megaton.

Prior airport.[]

Having lived in the area, the airport referred to is most likely Regan National, given its proximity to the river surrounding DC. I obviously don't know if this is verifiable or of any real consequence, but I just thought I'd point it out. Clarinet Hawk (talk · contributions) 21:45, 13 July 2009 (UTC)

Couldn't they have gotten it from a downed plane from Adams AFB? Dude, they didn't haul the entire plane's parts back to mid-DC, it's crashed, maybe a Nuke - Carrier, or something.

the aircraft that is used is a l1011-tristar

Kind of Odd[]

I was walking around megaton a while ago and heard someone yelling. I go to investigate and find that that people outside the megaton gate (Wled, Stockholm, and two genric settlers) were trying to get the water caravans to give them more water. Two BOS soldiers are leaning agianst some trees, (I think they were guarding the caravan). WEll there was a speech check on one of them that, if uscceded, gave megaton more water. I failed it and proceeded to see all the previous people mentioned massacred by the BOS. I obviously have Broken Steel Backspace-Yao-Guai 17:51, 19 July 2009 (UTC)

Poor Stockholm[]

This has to be the wierdest thing I've ever seen in Fallout 3. Several times I have already seen enemies like Giant Ants and Raiders attack near the area and that's normal but the one thing I saw wasn't. I can't recall what level I was at but it was near the cap without Broken Steel and I just dealt with a few Raiders and was looking for Lucky Harith and he was trying to attack something up on the sniper's perch as was my follower. I look up and Deathclaw somehow spawned up there. Stockholm was lying on the ground dead (naturally)and the Deathclaw was standing in his place. Needless to say the thing never attacked anyone and it died normal but did anyone else encounter this glitch?--KnightNapier 13:34, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

bug that has been fixed[]

And sometimes, even if you have a patched version of the game, over long durations of times (roughly over 50 hours), you may start to notice some NPCs will start to disappear, never to be seen again. An example would be Nathan, who seemed to have disappeared by himself if you didn't kill him or complete the quest involving Vault 87 so he will be locked up in Raven Rock forever, when you talk to Manya, she will state that "It's so quiet since Nathan died." indicating Nathan HAS died of falling. Moved from article --Kingclyde 06:37, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

trivial trivia[]

I'm not sure where some of this comes from, but Megaton is named after the rating system used to measure the explosivce yield of nuclear weapons. It is not a reference to transformers or stuff like "megaton spelled backwards is not-a-gem". Good lord, please stop adding references that make no sense. Thanks!--Kingclyde 01:00, September 19, 2009 (UTC)

the wierdist thing happend 2 me when i waz in megaton having a killing spree when suddenly a brotherhood of steel paladan comes out of know where and starts helping me kill everyone. if any one has an explanation please reply

hold on i got more news now paladan Hoss from falls church is helping me???

Possible that the Bos Pala was Cross, who is following you after you recruited her. --Odypus 22:28, November 29, 2009 (UTC)

In regards to the first question, I completely agree, info such as the Hollowed-out rock should be included under the notable loot line. 71.30.9.95 17:30, January 28, 2010 (UTC)

It is now listed in the layout section, with a link to its own article, as it isn't actually in Megaton itself. In addition, the majority of the items in the rock aren't notable loot, just the note and the stealth boy. I think this is sufficient information to be included on the Megaton page. Ishotamaninnewreno 03:14, January 29, 2010 (UTC)

What bomb?[]

Anyone else think it's strange that nobody outside megaton cares about the bomb? I'm sure the brotherhood would LOVE to dig that out of the ground, and re-launch it at their enemies. I'm sure there are engineers smart enough to disarm it, and re-arm it when needed. Tzaro the Outcast 17:55, January 17, 2010 (UTC)

Now your thinking like a Republican, doing the same thing that got you into the mess in the first place. I have to think everyone is basically sitting on all the nukes they could need they just know its better not to repeat the previous snafu, although tenpenny might see it as inticing(I am relatively sure the Bos and Enclave have access to enough nukes to relevel the world, if they don't they both have scientists able to build more).
Well, much like Liberty Prime, it would just be a secret weapon of sorts. Or even a last resort thing. Tzaro the Outcast 16:14, January 26, 2010 (UTC)

Is Megaton named after its nuclear bomb?[]

I read somewhere that it was, but I don't know if that's the truth. Is it? Is the bomb in the crater called "Megaton", and people gave the name to the settlement after it? --TheBearPaw 11:56, March 1, 2010 (UTC)

Definition of Megton: a measure of explosive power (of an atomic weapon) equal to that of one million tons of TNT StarfishCostume 14:41, March 1, 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, I mean, if the town is named after the atomic bomb, then this should be mentioned in the article. But I don't remember where and even if this was really in the game. Anybody remember this? Maybe some character said it. Lucas Simms? Manya --TheBearPaw 14:51, March 2, 2010 (UTC)
I think the evidence is pretty concrete, although it may have been vaugely mentioned by an NPC, however I couldn't point you where. StarfishCostume 14:57, March 2, 2010 (UTC)

The bomb dosn't have a name. "Megaton" is a word used in describing the explosive power of a bomb. So, the town is not named after the bomb; it just takes its name from bomb-related language.--Gothemasticator 18:29, June 23, 2010 (UTC)

Bug[]

If you leave a body (so far only tested with creatures no NPCs) directly outside the megaton gate (directly as in touching it) after fast traveling to megaton and going outside it will spawn above the gate and attack you (tested on multiple saves) can anyone confirm this or is it something going on with my disc ?

futurama[]

I was watching tv when i noticed that the mutants in futuama worship an unexploded nulear missle.

Futurama is making reference to an old movie, Beneath the Planet of the Apes, which the game is also making reference to. So, no relation between the game and the tv show. Futurama is basically a collection of cultural references, so anything you find on the show is going to be a parallel reference. That is, the game is not referencing Futurama but is referencing the same cultural thing that the tv show is.--Gothemasticator 18:29, June 23, 2010 (UTC)

BOS guys showing up outside of Megaton when finished waiting?[]

i wait for the caravans outside of megaton to show up.i wait in two hour sets. recently when i finish waiting, one of the brotherhood of steal guys shows up and then starts running to somewhere. i follow him but every time he gets gunned down by an enclave solider and i couldnt save him because his health is really bad. i thought this was once a time thing, but this bug keeps repeating. one time paladin Hoss showed and the he got killed too the same way (i reloaded from the auto save). anybody else ever experienced this? BTW, i'm on scientific pursuits and didnt get access to the Citadel yet.--That70sdude 01:34, July 4, 2010 (UTC)

Japanese version[]

So to be "nice" to our former enemies, we censored an atomic bomb? I think we should have made it ten times as gory and real than the American Version.

I don't really understand what you're trying to say here... --TheBearPaw 10:24, August 15, 2010 (UTC)
Our former enemy is also one of our staunchest allies. So yea, we're not gonna needlessly antagonize them, even with a video game. Kris mailbox 12:40, August 15, 2010 (UTC)
Why do you think it would have antagonzied them? The period when Japan played "innocent victim" about the atomic bombings has been over for quite a while. It isn't hard to find Japanese who, while they may not think the bombings were "deserved" (virtually none of the bad things that happen in war are "deserved"), the Japanese had no right to be surprised when they happened. Japan, after all, had used its own technological superiority over Korea and China to whack those countries around, and karma' a bitch. It's also fairly settled history at this point that the Japanese diplomats who ran around after the war spreading the "Japan was about to surrender" story were being at least unintentionally misleading, and that the alternatives to the atomic bomb were either too risky or had even worse consequences (both extended blockade and biological warfare were under consideration -- both would have caused millions of Japanese to die of starvation, at the very least). So it's more than a little insulting to Japanese maturity to suggest they will go eeek and hide under the bed at the possibility of nuking a settled area.

That is what they want you to think. - Surf Rider 16:53, August 15, 2010 (UTC)

In a sense, I agree. I am personally against this kind of censoring as well. But in any case, these are are just our opinions and will not "improve the article", so this talk page discussion is unnecessary. --TheBearPaw 11:22, August 20, 2010 (UTC)
It would be better attached to a page summarizing censorship of the game for local conditions. I don't know if there is such a page in the wiki yet. (In another instance, Fallout 3 was apparently never sold in India at all, because the mutated cows called "Brahmins" offended religious tastes.) If you want to delete or archive the whole thing, I wouldn't object. Wunengzi 12:46, August 20, 2010 (UTC)

Guard towers yet no guards?[]

I find it a bit weird that there are about 5/6 guard towers around Megaton yet there is no guards inside of them. Isn't this strange that they didn't put guards in them? It would make more sense. MasterRPGer (talk) 1:05, August 23, 2010 (UTC)

Seeing as (with vroken steel loaded) you're capped at 30 that's still low. Stuff spawns near towns. You get Radscorpions in these places all the tie. And those radiers could have wondered over fro the school and keep respawning near megaton (because the cell they die ing is where they spawn? I think). Anyone Else notice that?[]

The bomb in the center of megaton is the same type of bomb that you find in Fort constantine. This would have to mean that the bomb was dropped on its own people. If it were a chinese bomb than it would be different, I mean a bomb based on the WWII fat man design, and the fact that throughout the cold war the american and russain nukes never were the exact same. Superinsomniac 22:20, September 10, 2010 (UTC)

It's entirely possible that it's an American bomb.
1-We know Megaton was built near an airport
2-It's plausible that with nuclear war looming, America relocated strategic bombers with nuclear payloads to several airports including civilian ones to lessen the chances of them being taken out in a first strike.
3-In the real world, bombers often jettisoned their unarmed nukes whenever problems occurred.
I'd say it'd be believable that as nukes started to rain down, an American bomber with some sort problem lined up for an emergency landing at the airport near Megaton's location and jettisoned its payload at low altitude(explains why the bomb was barely damaged) before attempting a landing.Dr. Lobotomy 19:26, October 8, 2010 (UTC)

How did That bomb leave that size a crater, Even a bomb that size would not leave a crater that size, It would either have to be dropped from orbit or have actually detonated to make that size a crater.—Preceding comment was unsigned. Please sign your posts with ~~~~!

No.

It didn't. A plane left that crater. --Kris User Hola 22:25, September 10, 2010 (UTC)
Professor Moriarty must have made it when conducting his experiments. :oP Mictlantecuhtli 02:37, September 11, 2010 (UTC)
Well, Kris, I don't think a plane would make a crater that large. To carry on Grizzly's original argument on the "plane crashing and making a huge whole is stupid" thing, I'd just like to say (pretty much repeat) that it isn't feasible for an aircraft to make a crater of that size. Nukey (talk) 02:45, September 11, 2010 (UTC)
Clearly the airplane fell from outer space. All kidding aside, we really don't know what made the crater, but the bomb would not have made one that big and, size aside, a crashing plane would not have made a crater in that shape. Perhaps a bomb fell and exploded there, and then minutes later the other one fell and failed to go off? It wouldn't explain the lack of radiation there, but otherwise it might fit. --Kris User Hola 20:01, September 13, 2010 (UTC)
Maybe the crater was allready there and then the bomb just feel in it.(unsigned)
Well the bomb didn't make it because the old woman (mainia or something) said. "A lot of people think the bomb made the crater, but it didn't."JASPER//"Do you like hurting other people?"UserRichard
She's talking like she saw it happen. She's in her 60s, not her 260s. She wasn't around to see it get made, and probably neither was anyone else around to see it happen, much less pass along the tale. --Kris User Hola 20:49, September 13, 2010 (UTC)

i have a few theories ,

1- if it was a large plane falling at very high speeds it is possible that it would make an Average sized Craters , Plus the addition of Nuclear Bombs Dropping all over DC might have help it fall to peices , then a bomb falls inside the crater Landing Straight in the middle of an alreay Scaterred Plane , remember that it probably slid Down the hole , leaving its mark and enlarging the whole

2- Perhaps the people of Megaton Dug it a bit Deeper

i dunno thats what i think

Stockholm[]

Somehow, some Raiders spawned up on Stockholm's platform, outside of the Megaton walls. They killed him, and drove off the merchants and Micky. PS3 version, anyway. Wierdperson31 01:26, September 13, 2010 (UTC)

Anyone Else hope that[]

In new vegas there will be a chance to detonate an actual nuke, I mean blowing up megaton was fun, but I really wanna see a nuke go off in the mohabi desert.8.25.243.16 22:34, October 3, 2010 (UTC)

I hope that one day you'll learn how to spell Mojave. --Kris User Hola 22:39, October 3, 2010 (UTC)
If they did that again, that'd be stupid. Nukey (talk) 19:35, October 8, 2010 (UTC)

Yes. I hope that they repeat something they did in Fallout 3 and have to chance to exploade a nuke. I also hope Mr House is a computer, and really Eden and that it is basically exactly like fallout 3, with the same plot but just in a different place. In face, I may just buy another copy of Fallout 3 instead, so that way it is exactly like it.JASPER//"Do you like hurting other people?"UserRichard 19:37, October 8, 2010 (UTC)

Never the less, I still wana see some big explosions in NV.--Radiated Raider 17:03, October 10, 2010 (UTC)

Can we get a World Map image for this location?[]

I'm 125 hours in and at level 30 but haven't been to Megaton yet. I went straight to Rivet City for the Bobblehead and then to the Outcast's base for Operation: Anchorage, then wondered the Wastelands and Downtown areas for various things. I came to this page to get a general idea of where it is and any surrounding locations but there's only a Local Map image. Come to think of it, every location should have a World Map image and Local Map image.

Edit: Just came back to the page and sees a World Map image. I feel a little embarrassed seeing it and wondering if I just managed to not see it or if my Wii just never displayed it being that there's no comment after my post.

I NEED HELP![]

Stockholm & Settler[]

I was massacring Megaton for an unknown reason and I just killed Stockholm and less than 10 seconds later a Megaton settler spawns in his "sniper's nest". Should I add it to the bugs section? Sgt. Me 22:47, April 26, 2011 (UTC)

I remember why now, I was testing my new Rock-It Launcher on Moira's merc.

New Bug[]

I'm just at level 3 in Fallout 3, in Megaton, and I need to keep loading the same save because each time Colin Moriarty turns away from the balcony toward the Saloon, the entire game freezes. I'm on the XBox 360. Help, please? --24.168.113.21 21:05, May 31, 2011 (UTC)

Super-Mutants attacking Megaton?[]

Alright, so Simms is dead and I've offed Moriarty (secretly.)

One problem, though, now the muties are coming in in droves and wiping everybody out. I'm SURE this is supposed to happen (but I really wish there was a way to fix it.. I've spawned, like, 30 Enclave bots to protect the town, but there are only really 3 citizens left alive)

Should there be mention of these consequences in the article? And, maybe... how to mend them? I seem to remember Manya making some remark about "So now Megaton is up for grabs until somebody steps up to the plate..." Is there even a way to take her up on that? And if it's a bug, maybe that should be mentioned as well? 24.19.112.177 01:54, June 1, 2011 (UTC)

Nathan and Manya's House[]

When the game starts, Nathan and Manya's House is red and owned by them. After an unknown amount of time, though, it becomes green and the player can enter at any time. The same happens for Billy Creel's House, and Lucas Simms' House.

Is this a bug, or a feature? I have tried to find the moment when the houses switch, but I haven't had much luck. I've tried disarming and not disarming the bomb, and waiting for days in and outside of the city, but it's never flipped while I was watching. I've also searched the GECK for instances of their house, and the door leading into their house, but nothing comes up. Any ideas? Should this be added to the article? Wallbridge 17:14, June 7, 2011 (UTC)

It's a bug. I watched the red house turn green twice, and both times, it was because either Nathan or Manya was exiting the house. It took a few hundred reloads and had a low chance of happening, but there you go. Wallbridge 12:57, June 8, 2011 (UTC)
Haha... that's not a bug. When they 'open' their house the player can enter. The same thing for Oblivion, even. When they are in their house during the daytime anyone else can come in as well... --75.19.99.81 05:59, June 12, 2011 (UTC)
Yep, I know what you're talking about: if Billy Creel or Lucas Simms is in their house, you can go in to talk with them. But in the case of Manya and Nathan's house (and also Lucas, Billy and Jericho's, I've noticed) the house is open at all hours of the day and night, whether or not someone is inside, after the "quickload when someone exits" thing occurs. Is this the same thing as what you mentioned? :) Wallbridge 05:02, June 17, 2011 (UTC)

History of Megaton[]

When was Megaton built? I know Manya says that her dad played a part in it, but she was born in 2213. Was Megaton built before she was born, or after?

Now this is just scary[]

I don't like leaders, preferably Cowboy douchebags like Simms, does he ever go to sleep?! I've been waiting in and out of his house for 3 days in-game time! I don't want to get cought, and I need to put my Sandman perk to use. What exact time does he sleep? And the reason I don't want to kill Moriarty is because if I do, The settlers will be mauled by Raiders, Super Mutants, Radscorpions, and Deathclaws.

Scripted encounter outside of Megaton[]

So I was outside of Megaton after completing the Holy Water quest. There was an Aqua Pura caravan outside with 3 or 4 Megaton Settlers talking to a trader. After a bit of conversation the Brotherhood of Steel guards (who are waiting a bit nearby) pull out their weapons and walk towards the group. A bit more discussion and the Megaton Settlers pull out knives, and BoS knights respond by completely destroying the Settlers, unfortunatly Deputy Weld and Stolkholm both get involved and easily killed. Afterwards the knights discuss how the Settlers "fired first" and how they "wont mention this in the report." I cant give an exact script but I know the Megaton Settlers were threatening to take all the Aqua Pura but the rest that the Brahim had was due bound for Big Town and when both the trader and the BoS knights refused to give the settlers more they all pulled out their knives and attacked the Brahim/ trader. 69.137.169.61 21:51, March 27, 2012 (UTC)

Removed bug listing[]

  • Xbox 360Xbox 360When you kill everyone in Megaton (not blowing up the atom bomb that Burke asks you to detonate) sometimes upon fast traveling back a body will land at your feet.

Pretty sure this happens at various locations. --Bottrot (talk) 03:57, August 11, 2012 (UTC)

Handed free stuff with Good Karma[]

When I got free stuff in Megaton due to good karma (I free every captured slave by raider or muties) I got handed GOOD stuff. Once I got a R91 assault rifle, and the other time I got metal armor (better than my Brotherhood Combat Armor 2). This is much better than just ammo or such in the misc. stuff. Locked vs. Unlocked House[]

IMHO, the residents follow a 8:30A to 8:30P schedule. If they are not "at work" they're wandering around during daylight. After that they go home, and the home becomes unlocked. So you'll much more likely find the homes unlocked at night, IMHO.

Also, if you disarmed the bomb, the residents open up to you and seem to stop locking their doors more often.

re: the lone wanderer's actions[]

The 'Visitors' section outlines only one of the possible choices the Lone Wanderer can make re: disarming or detonating the bomb and presents it as the only option. As well, the 'After the Brotherhood-Enclave War' section presents the events as if the bomb was disarmed, which may not be the case depending the player's choices. Should this be edited to either be more vague (like 'the Lone Wanderer enters Megaton in search of his father, and has the choice to help out a number of the residents as he/she pleases). I've not played Broken Steel yet (nor have I ever chosen to blow up the bomb), so I can't comment on how things would be different after the main quest, but it seems to me that, when there is more than one possible outcome, one outcome should not be presented as the only outcome. I'd change it myself, but I'm fairly new to this editing thing and don't really feel comfortable making that extensive a change, I don't want to step on toes (if there are even any toes to step on...) "visitors" section[]

(In agreement with the above section, though not placed as a reply to that) The current text seems to canonically describes Lucas Simms as dead "when the Lone Wanderer alerts him to Burke's plan." Is there info elsewhere to support that is how it 'supposed' to happen? Because in both my playthroughs, even the first one before I knew what was happening I was able to kill Burke before he planted a shot in Simms. The only evidence I have found to support that speculation is the fact that Lucas Simms, despite thanking me for saving his skin (ergo, he LIVED), vanished from the town inexplicably (which on its own may be the "Missing NPC glitch"). Just saying; correct me if I'm wrong. PaulReverend (talk) 15:54, September 29, 2016 (UTC)

That's probably referring to the Afterward excerpt added in some FO3 guides. Great Mara (talk) 15:59, September 29, 2016 (UTC)
