Nathan Broadhurst is a former professional baseball player mentioned in Fallout 76, introduced in the Expeditions: Atlantic City update.

Background[]

Nathan was part of Boston's baseball team, the Swatting Sultans, and was going to play in the final game of the World Series against Texas on October 23rd, 2077. That day, alongside his teammates Matt Murtagh and Jim Walker, he arrived at Fenway Park early to get some practice in to help Murtagh, who was nervous about the game, when the Great War began. When a nuclear bomb struck south of the city, the stadium walls saved all their lives.[1]

The trio then split up, with Matt leaving to try and reach his family in Atlanta alone while Nathan and Jim tried to find Janice, Walker's sister and Broadhurst's fiancee. They decided to search for Walker's family in Charleston, hoping to find Janice there, taking a route via Highways 90 and 84 through Pennsylvania after hearing that New York City had been hit hard.[1]

Eventually, the two began travelling with another group of survivors they met in Hartford that was trying to reach Pittsburgh. They split from the group at Altoona and continued on alone. They were then captured by a hostile group of survivors near a town called Bedford. The survivors, who had fortified the town and were using motorcycles, locked the two in the town's bank, but Nathan and Jim managed to free themselves. They tried to escape the town by going across the rooftops, but were spotted.[1]

The Bedford survivors then opened fire, killing Jim as he tried to jump from one roof to another. Nathan escaped and eventually reached Appalachia. Though he tried to search around Charleston, he never found Janice or Walker's family, but wound up joining the Settlers at Settler's Ridge, writing an autobiography as an old man and leaving his once-famous baseball bat to serve as inspiration for future generations.[1]
