Led by star pitcher Matt "The Missile" Murtagh, Boston hopes to defeat Texas, and deliver their first World Series victory since 1918.Newscaster

Matt "The Missile" Murtagh was the star pitcher of Boston's Swatting Sultans in 2077.

Background[]

From his hometown of Atlanta, Georgia, Murtagh played two years in the minors and 14 years in the majors, his baseball card listing his position as pitcher.[1][2] A right handed pitcher and batter, standing at 6'0" and 180 pounds, his stats include 8282 at bats, 2818 hits, 451 two-base hits, 84 three-base hits, 481 home runs, 1541 total runs batted in, with a .314 batting average overall.[1]

With Dusty Wilder at the helm, the Boston baseball team started with a 3-0 lead over the formerly "unbeatable" Texas team in the 2077 World Series, with the last game scheduled for the afternoon of October 23, 2077.[3] If victorious, the team would have delivered their first series win in nearly 159 years.[4] Murtagh was scheduled to pitch for the first time in the series thus far, with newspaper reporters writing about the possibility of him pitching a no-hitter.[3]

On October 23, Murtagh arrived at Boston's stadium early with his teammates Nathan Broadhurst and Jim Walker. Murtagh had been nervous about being the first pitcher of the game, and the two wanted to help him get over his nerves by getting some early practice in. When the Great War began, the stadium walls saved their lives from the nuclear bomb that had hit south of the city. The group then split up, as Murtagh wanted to head home to Atlanta while Broadhurst and Walker wanted to find Walker's family in Appalachia.[5]
